The Durutti Column

Renascent

‘Renascent’ marks the long-awaited return of legendary Manchester outfit The Durutti Column, their first new studio album in over fifteen years.

Around the guitar work of Vini Reilly, the album plays between sonic atmospherics and structure: warm ambient washes, piano, beats and guest vocal turns by a new generation (Caoilfhionn Rose).

Both contemporary and otherworldly, and with a swathe of new champions citing the band as an influence (Blood Orange, Harry Styles, The Avalanches, Mark William Lewis), 'Renascent' is a timely and vital rebirth for The Durutti Column.

The Durutti Column

Vini Reilly - 2026 Reissue

1LP edition of the seminal 1989 album in its original sleeve.

Rightly regarded as one of The Durutti Column’s finest works, Vini Reilly is a delicately brilliant masterpiece. Vini Reilly’s intricate finger-picked guitar and Bruce Mitchell’s jazz-inflected drumming are embellished with samples to stunning effect, most famously on “Otis”, which samples Otis Redding and Tracy Chapman.

Produced by Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur, The Cranberries, New Order)

Mastered by Peter Beckmann at Technology Works

One of the greatest records ever to emerge from Manchester.

Short Stories For Pauline - 2026 Reissue

Factory Benelux presents a 2026 180gm black vinyl edition of Short Stories for Pauline, the ‘lost’ fourth album by cult Manchester group The Durutti Column.

Just 500 copies of the 180gm vinyl edition have been pressed.

Originally recorded by Vini Reilly in Brussels in December 1983, the 14 track album features several key Durutti works including College, A Room in Southport and - best of all - Duet.

Recorded with Tuxedomoon viola player Blaine L. Reininger, this poignant instrumental proved - ironically – to be the downfall of the album, after Factory founder (and Durutti manager) Tony Wilson insisted that Duet form the basis of an entire neo-classical album. As a result, Duet became Without Mercy in 1984, and Short Stories for Pauline was shelved.

Other guest musicians on the album include drummer Alain Lefebvre, harpist Anne van den Troost and sax player Eric Sleichim.

The Durutti Column

Fidelity - 2026 Reissue

Les Disques du Crepuscule presents a new coloured vinyl edition of Fidelity, the 1996 studio album by cult Manchester ensemble The Durutti Column.

Originally released by Crepuscule on CD only in April 1996, Fidelity featured 10 tracks written and performed by Vini Reilly, with occasional guest vocals by Eley Rudge. In addition to Vini’s trademark guitar stylings, the album showcased sleek electronic textures and programmed beats. Perhaps the best known track is ‘Future Perfect’, which featured in the acclaimed ‘Sundae’ episode of hit HBO drama series The Bear in 2023.

This vinyl re-master features two bonus tracks: ‘My Only Love’ was originally released in 1995 on a covermount CD with a specialist guitar magazine, while experimental piece ‘The New Fidelity’ was issued on a Portuguese compilation album from 1992 called Hare, Hunter, Field.

The Durutti Column

The Return Of The Durutti Column - 45th Anniversary Edition

Alongside Joy Division, The Durutti Column were among the first artists signed to Factory Records. Their 1980 debut, produced by Martin Hannett, highlighted Vini Reilly’s delicate, reverb-laden guitar and early use of synthesizers.

‘The Return of The Durutti Column’ marked the beginning of a five-decade career in which The Durutti Column quietly became one of Manchester’s most influential acts.

The Durutti Column

Sunlight To Blue... Blue To Blackness

“Sunlight to blue … Blue to blackness” - This was one of the more upbeat title suggestions for the very bare, back to basics, reflective album from The Durutti Column. Originally released in June 2008, Sunlight to Blue… was a conscious response to the previous two polished and ‘studio-based’ releases. Here he created some sparse, simply beautiful 'sketches' as he once called them, more reminiscent of his work from the early eighties. Many of the pieces are instrumentals played on his Juan Montero flamenco guitar, and he returns to 'Without Mercy' for the last track 'Grief' whilst reinventing 'Never Known' from LC. Now, for the first time, the LP is available remastered and re-packaged as a gatefold double 12” 180gram vinyl release.

This album also saw the debut of the then talented young pianist and singer, Poppy Morgan, who co-wrote the melancholy Ananda as a duet with what Reilly dryly called 'intrusive guitar'. For the uninitiated, Vini was the first artist signed to Manchester’s influential Factory Records, co-wrote and played on Morrissey’s first solo album ‘Viva Hate’, and was heavily featured in the Manchester music culture film, ’24 Hour Party People’. Vini Reilly has recorded under the name The Durutti Column since 1978 and has a rich portfolio of work, releasing over twenty albums in this time. Ever critical of Vini’s voice, but ever a fierce champion of his talent, the late Tony Wilson would surely appreciate this return of The Durutti Column.
