Shy People is a 1987 drama film directed by Andrei Konchalovsky, the Russian director who early in his career was the screenwriting collaborator of the great Andrei Tarkovsky. The plot revolves around Diana, a successful New York journalist who is commissioned to write a piece about her distant relatives and their difficult lives deep in the bayous of Louisiana. Reluctantly, her wayward and drug-addicted teenage daughter Grace agrees to join her mother on the soul-searching trip to the Southern wetlands, resulting in a culture clash between the cosmopolitan and the rural, with devastating consequences. In true arthouse fashion, the film premiered at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival to acclaim but never received a wide release. However, Barbara Hershey did take home the award for Best Actress, for her role of Ruth, Diana's cousin.

Responsible for the soundtrack is the legendary kosmische outfit Tangerine Dream, led by Edgar Froese. Throughout the 80s they composed scores for more than 20 films, with many composed of reworked material from either the band's studio work or tracks that were work in progress. Their haunting, complex, multi-layered synth work combined with dreamlike vocals proved to be the perfect accompaniment to the palpable tension between Diana and her family. But, as always with Tangerine Dream, the score works perfectly well on its own too.

Electro pioneers Tangerine Dream had a dozen top 20 albums on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1970s, and scored some of Hollywood’s biggest 1980s movies. Side 1 of this clear vinyl 12’’ EP features 2 tracks from best-selling game Grand Theft Auto V, which took just three days to hit one billion dollars in retail sales. This instalment featured the first original score in the GTA series, composed by Tangerine Dream amongst other notable names. Happy Ending is a new piece using fragments and ideas of No Happy Endings from the original score. Los Santos City Map is a previously unreleased 2026 re-recording of the infamous music for the game’s pause and navigation screens. The B-side features a new 2026 recording of Love On A Real Train, Tangerine Dream’s best-known track, from 1983 box office smash Risky Business starring Tom Cruise. Mastered at Abbey Road by legendary cutting ace Miles Showell and pressed at Optimal in Germany, the EP is presented in a stylish sleeve by Invisible Hands Music.

What began as an experimental session at Richard Branson's Manor Studios in Oxfordshire became a seismic event in modern sound. Using the Moog sequencer for the first time, Tangerine Dream - then comprised of Edgar Froese, Christopher Franke & Peter Baumann - crafted 'Phaedra', an album that shimmered with innovation, mystery & a palpable sense of discovery.

Half a century later, Tangerine Dream returned to London's Barbican to honour that landmark work - reimagining it for a new era. Across its three vinyl LPs, '50 Years Of Phaedra: At The Barbican' captures this transcendent live performance, in which the current line- up - Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane & Paul Frick - revisit the spirit of 'Phaedra' with the very tools that Froese & his collaborators helped pioneer.

Look through any self respecting quality music publication or web site and peruse through a list of the most important and influential psychedelic albums of all time and you can be pretty sure to see KALEIDOSCOPE’S ‘Tangerine Dream” ranked high up there, along with your ‘Sgt Peppers’, your ‘Forever Changes’ ‘Satanic Majesties Request’ ‘Axis Bold As Love’ ‘Odyssey & Oracle’ and ‘The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators’……..

This seminal album of quintessential English psychedelia is one of the most highly prized artifacts that define the psychedelic genre and like some of the most highly collected and prized albums from that time, mint copies can now go for way in excess of £1000.

Thus given the record`s rarity & collectability, matched to the recent explosive interest in all things psyche, garage & underground, you would be excused for thinking that this slice of perfect late 60’s progressive underground pop would have been given the full reissue and remastering treatment already. Surprisingly though, you would very much be mistaken. But to those of you who know the checkered history of Kaleidoscope this will perhaps come as no surprise!?!!

Thankfully after 3 years of painstaking detective work, chance encounters with Universal archivists, heavy negotiations with major label legal executives and some good fortune, we are delighted to announce that this record will finally not only get its first proper official reissue in over 5 decades, but thanks to a lot of pure persistence it can now be presented to its listeners in the manner in which it was supposed to have been heard, following the discovery of a batch of the original master tapes that were languishing in the vaults of Universal that have laid largely unheard for 50 years!

Furthermore following a couple of shared festival billings at Austin and Copenhagen Psyche Festival, with another legend of the scene, Mr Pete Kember aka SONIC BOOM of SPACEMEN 3 fame, Sonic has been holed up in his Lisbon studio, painstakingly remastering the album from the original ¼” tapes.

The remastering of these ¼” tapes though is only part of the story, as along with the discovery of these a significant number of ½” tapes and other material was also discovered which is penned for a future release when the band`s entire works will be presented in a definitive boxset of all four of their studio albums (including all their Fairfield Parlour recordings) plus BBC Sessions, live recordings, alternative takes, new mixes, unreleased tracks and material from the band`s own archive including pre-Kaleidoscope demos when they were known as both The Sidekicks and The Key.

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a newly re-mastered edition of the classic album 'Atem' by Tangerine Dream. Released in 1973, the album was the band’s last release on the Berlin based OHR label and heralded the beginning of Tangerine Dream’s wider international acclaim. Championed by DJ John Peel, 'Atem' enjoyed success outside of Germany and eventually led to the group signing to the newly formed Virgin label.

This Esoteric reactive edition is expanded to include a bonus CD of a previously unreleased forty minute live performance given by Tangerine Dream at the Deutschlandhalle in Berlin on November 29th 1973 and features a lavishly illustrated deluxe booklet with new essay.

Released in August 1972 on the OHR label in Germany, 'Zeit' was recorded at the Dierks Studio near Cologne and also featured a guest appearance by Florian Fricke of Popol Vuh. One of the group s finest early albums, 'Zeit' was enthusiastically championed in the UK by John Peel and was a major breakthrough for Tangerine Dream.

This Esoteric Recordings edition includes a previously unreleased bonus CD of Tangerine Dream’s legendendary Kalngwaldt performance recorded in Cologne in November 1972, fully restores the entire unedited double LP version to compact disc and includes a lavishly illustrated deluxe booklet with new essay.

Recorded at the Dierks Studio in Stommeln, the album featured a line up of Edgar Froese, Chris Franke and Steve Schroyder with guests Udo Dennebourg (flute) and Roland Pualyck (synthesiser). Released in Germany on the OHR label, the influence of the album was immense, with the band creating imaginative sound-scapes previously unheard on record.

This Esoteric Reactive edition is newly re-mastered and includes three bonus tracks: ‘Ozillator Planet Concert’ has never been released on CD and was issued as part of the 1971 double album "Ossiach Live”. Also included are both sides of the classic ‘Ultima Thule’ single issued in Germany in 1971. The release fully restores the original album artwork and includes a lavishly illustrated booklet .
