STUDIO BARNHUS

Tokyo-based, globally-destined DJ and producer Mayurashka comes thru on Studio Barnhus with five awe-inspiring examples of fearless sonic exploration on the dancefloor.

A rare record that strikes with immediacy while still revealing new details on the 1000th listen, this EP shares a cosmic connection with the new wave and disco records Mayu fuses into her infamous late night sets in the Japanese house underground. There's a fiery EBM to the opening two tracks, slowing down to an opiated Baldelli-esque chug for "Fatties" before hitting the accelerator for two rainforest house numbers on side B. With swirling dub delays, nagging sine tones and pleasantly whirring synthesis throughout, it's a real delight on the old lugholes!

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Hypnotic and psychedelic EBM vibes here which unveils more and more with repeat listens. If you liked those La Rama records, or some of the more obscure stuff of Ruf Kutz, then I'm sure you'll dig this.

Fort Romeau & Gold Panda

Stay Here

Two of the most sensitive and sweet big room bangers to ever fill a floor, here’s "Stay Here" and "Writer", the results of a recent machine jam between heavyweights of emotional dance music, Fort Romeau and Gold Panda.

"Stay Here" strikes first with slowly simmering synthesizers intertwining with slinky guitars and delicate vocal samples, while b-side "Writer" shows up to the party loaded with restrained euphoria, steady beats paving the path for the fragile acoustic elements of its glorious, beatless ending.

All of this spiked with just the right amount of acid to keep things constantly entrancing!

The record comes wrapped up in designer Eliot Axelsson's blurry shapes and vivid colours giving it the visual accompaniment it so rightly deserves.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Two UK stalwarts join forces for a predictably sumptuous and mellifluous double header. With crisp textures, cushion soft bass, fluttering atmos and computerized vox throughout, the release should find plenty of favour with fans of Four Tet, Burial and Floating Points.

Axel Boman returns in defiantly good form with a brand new original EP on his very own Studio Barnhus label, blessing this fast paced world with some slow moving music inspired by the Eterna Primavera mountains outside Medellin. Specifically, this record was created during months of isolation spent on an avocado farm, with the Swedish producer letting the outside world disappear bit by bit, until only clear shapes of unclear importance remained.
Of course, this is all just an attempt to poetically describe a collection of tracks that sound exactly like the kind of disco business Axel has been meddling in for the last 15 years. Don't be fooled by the rocks that he got, he's still Axel from the block. Viva house music!

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Much like Roman Flugen, Axel Boman has a way of stylishly injecting bucket loads of fun into his productions. "Space Drag" is no exception - you can't help but smile and giggle whilst listening to these highly textured beautifully detailed sonic canvasses.
