INRI (Industria Nacional Del Ruiddo Infinito) - Inc. Silent Servant Remix

A cross-cutting label exploring the boundaries between different disciplines based on deep listening and music research, Modern Obscure Music return with "INRI (Industria Nacional Del Ruiddo Infinito)" by Dellarge.

Inspired by the scenic beauty of his studio's surroundings at Lake Pátzcuaro in Michoacan, Mexico; Alejandro Barba - aka Dellarge - delves deep into the depths of his artistic consciousness to craft a spiritual album that encapsulates the essence of the place. "Industria Nacional del Ruido Infinito" (National Industry of Infinite Noise) serves as a vessel for Dellarge's innermost self-expression and reflections on the potential of humanity. A mesmerizing blend of ambient, futurism and industrial sounds that transport listeners into a realm of mysticism and duality, and stands as a testament to Dellarge's artistic growth and his ability to transcend boundaries, offering listeners an immersive experience that connects them to his world.

Drawing inspiration from numerous sources, Dellarge found creative fuel in books such as 'El Arte de los Ruidos' by Luigi Russolo, 'Manifiestos y Textos Futuristas' by F.T. Marinetti, and science fiction classics including 'Congreso de Futurología' by Stanislaw Lem, 'Neuromancer' by William Gibson, and 'Dune' by Frank Herbert. Musically, he delved into the works of Coil, Michael Bundt, The Threshold Houseboys Choir, krautrock legends CAN and Popol Vuh, early Kraftwerk, Arthur Brown, Yello, Esquivel, The Residents, and Hector Lavoe for inspiration.

When asked about the creative process behind the album, Dellarge revealed a disciplined routine that involved immersing himself in the sounds, focusing on minute details that connected with the vivid world he envisioned. Ethereal tracks such as "Viento Androide" and "Viaje al Sol" offer a glimpse of a hopeful future, while darker compositions such as "Corpus de Sangre" and "Toro de Falaris", explore the wickedness and compassion within humanity. Each piece in the album represents a unique sonic journey.

"Viaje al Sol" is remixed by the sadly recently departed Juan Mendez aka Silent Servant alongside an exclusive reworking of "Cascabel" by the founder of Modern Obscure Music, Pedro Vian.

Sharon Van Etten

Silent Night / Blue Christmas

Silent Night was recorded in 2018 for the Holiday Short Film, “The Letter” by Eric Paschal Johnson and received a Vimeo Staff Pick Award.

Van Etten’s cover of the holiday classic “Blue Christmas,” was originally recorded for a benefit album called Do You EAR what I Ear in 2009 for the Association to Benefit Children, an outstanding New York-based service dedicated to permanently breaking the cycles of abuse, neglect, sickness and homelessness among disadvantaged children and their families.

Both of these tracks are now available on vinyl for the first time.

    Cousteaux

    Stray Gods

On Stray Gods, CousteauX abandon their luxuriant tendencies for something darker still. singer Liam McKahey ranges from blue-eyed soul to red-eyed ghoul. Ballads still reach for Jimmy Webb, or Lee Hazlewood classicism, and echoes of Bowie/Walker/Cave are ever present. Anti-hit, When the Bloom Has Left the Rose, speaks of the unspoken sorrows of growing old, whilst Miley Cyrus and Leonard Cohen covers collide sweetly. Cyrus' collaboration with Flaming Lips Wayne Coyne and Stephen Drodz is given a wide open country treatment here on the album's first single.

      The Knife

      Silent Shout - 2021 Reissue

The Knife continues their 20th Anniversary celebrations as the duo of Karin and Olof Dreijer present a new violet coloured vinyl pressing of their critically adored third studio album, ‘Silent Shout’.

The Knife reached yet another pinnacle with ‘Silent Shout’. After the effervescent, Eurodisco-tinged pop of their 2003 album, ‘Deep Cuts’, the Dreijers developed a dark parallel world on their 2006 follow-up. With menacing electronics rooted in early techno and identity masking via the art of pitch shifting, The Knife used their platform to subvert institutional structures and challenge social norms. They were a band with something to say and people were listening.

For all its clean air, the isolated community they were raised in was suffocatingly patriarchal. The weight of gendered expectations almost too much to bear. In that context, ‘Silent Shout’ is a protest album of sorts. Songs like ‘Forest Families’ and ‘One Hit’ gnash their teeth at the pressure that sexism, homophobia and capitalism exert. The album’s sometimes eerie interpretation of 90s techno and trance - a formative era for both siblings - proved the perfect foil for the stinging social realism of its song lyrics.

While there had always been at least a year-long delay between the Swedish and international releases of their previous albums, ‘Silent Shout’ was released everywhere at once. And, for the first time, they took their music on tour. On stage, they wore black pantyhose over their heads daubed with UV paint. For interviews, they used their bird masks and altered their voices any time they were on video. They became famous for not wanting to be famous.

        STAFF COMMENTS

Patrick says: If Deep Cuts delivered technicolour tropical pop with a naive exuberance, "Silent Shout" was its moody teenage sibling. Dark, shadowy and at times stomping. The opener is a Scando-tech bomb I have never fallen out of love with, lead single "We Share Our Mothers' Health" is a masterpiece in pitch shifted mind melt, and the rest of the tracklist is littered with jams (Marble House, Na Na Na and Like a Pen anyone?)

        Miles Davis

In A Silent Way - 2021 Coloured Vinyl Edition

In a Silent Way is a studio album by American jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Miles Davis, released on July 30, 1969, on Columbia Records. Produced by Teo Macero, the album was recorded in one session date on February 18, 1969, at CBS 30th Street Studio in New York City. Incorporating elements of classical sonata form, Macero edited and arranged Davis's recordings from the session to produce the album. Marking the beginning of his "electric" period, In a Silent Way has been regarded by music writers as Davis's first fusion recording, following a stylistic shift toward the genre in his previous records and live performances.

          Silent Winter

Holy Land Of Fire & Snow

Not many heavy metal bands have tried their hands on Christmas songs. Last year, Greek power metal band Silent Winter decided to give it a try, and recorded 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas' in full blown metal style, including high pitched yet melodic vocals and, of course, guitar solos. Given the more than 20.000 views of thei video, it did indeed find an audience in the metal community. And now the song found its way to vinyl, as B-side to Silent Winter’s single for the Snowflakes Christmas Singles Club. Songwriter and guitarist Kiriakos Balanos took up the challenge to write a new Christmas metal song, and came up with 'Holy Land Of Fire And Snow', the A-side of the single. It's five-and-half minute of fast paced power metal, that couples sleigh bells, an angel choir and church bells with heavy guitars, ultra fast solos and blast beats. The sometimes melodic and sometimes screaming vocals of Mike Livas tell the tale of this holy land of fire and snow, where Santa reigns, who doesn't seem to be as peaceful as we have been told, as he travels through the black and starry sky with his burning sleigh, causing panic and destruction along the way.

Silent Winter was originally formed in the mid-1990s in the Greek city of Volos, recorded two demo's and broke up in 2001. In 2018 the band reformed and now in 2020, Silent Winter consists of singer Mike Livas (also in Maidenance and Keepers of Jericho), guitarists Kiriakos Balanos and Vaggelis Papadimitriou, bassist Vaggelis Tsekouras and drummer John Antonopoulos. In 2019, Silent Winter recorded its first full length, 'The Circles Of Hell' for Sonic Age Records, to good reviews. Their 2020 lathe cut 7" 'Nightfall', sold out on the day of release.

              Sivu

              Sweet Sweet Silent

After two years out of the spotlight Sivu returns with his new album Sweet Sweet Silent, a loud and clear demonstration of the considerable talents of singer James Page. This is a record of extraordinary beauty driven by a sense of experimentation, inspired by the likes of Radiohead’s ‘Amnesiac’, Wild Beasts ‘Smother’ and lifelong hero Richard Hawley. After the release of 2014’s ‘Something on High’ James began struggling with Meniere’s syndrome. His hearing deteriorating, this new album faces up to those challenges and fears. Together with trusted collaborator Charlie Andrew (Alt-J, Marika Hackman) Sweet Sweet Silent gives room for slightly detuned instrumentation, restlessness breaks from pattern and romantic imagery. It’s what makes the music feel more human, built from the ground up. Sivu may not be seeking approval with this record, but it’s likely he’ll be flooded with praise once it comes out.

                Andras Fox

                Vibrate On Silent

Melbourne-based producer Andras Fox (A.r.t. Wilson) creates a tactile and unique form of Antipodean boogie / synth-funk that feels equally informed by garage house and new age musical traditions. His productions sound appropriate on both the dancefloor and in the lounge, boasting a casual danceability and mood that seamlessly adapts to both environs. On 'Vibrate On Silent', Wilson creates G-funk with a surf sensibility; congas, shakers, electro-acoustic melodies coalesce with grooves, subtle hooks and a laid-back, oceanic ambience.

Wilson's arrangements are spacious and deceptively simple - layers are built up and stripped down, with the rhythm track providing a solid framework for jazzy / improvised flourishes. Opener "Ankle Snapper" begins with a politely funky bass line, adding handclaps and a casual house beat that is gradually adorned with cowbell and midi-saxophone. "Pontoon" pushes the G-funk agenda further, coming across like Dr. Dre driving top-down along the Great Ocean Road.

Elsewhere, "Driftwood" and "Mystic Beach" allude to Wilson's prior dabblings in new age. In addition to his production work, Wilson is a renowned DJ, hosting Strange Holiday on Melbourne's Triple R where he champions a diverse mix of primitive rhythms, weird disco, outsider music and other Australian rarities. He recently completed a DJ tour of UK and Europe, and now has three Boiler Room sets under his belt.

                  Silent Diane

                  Capella / Lights On

“Silent Diane are in possession of a much sharper, clearer sound than many immersed in the revolving worlds of chillwave and w*itchhouse which they border. ‘Capella’ could almost be an outtake from a Zola Jesus recording session, if it didn’t have the optimistic flourish of aerial chords to close. Sweet song. ‘Lights On’ is equally melodramatic, but with a
more nuanced arrangement oscillating between twirling swoon and tribal synth-pop rapture. Check!” Boomkat

A killer single from Austin’s Silent Diane. Silent Diane is a project founded by Christine Aprile & Malcolm Elijah in 2009 in an effort to, in their own words, “dedicate themselves to genuine emotion”. Aprile and Elijah are seen around Austin playing with a few other bands, notably Sleep Over, but none of their projects sounds quite as colorfully bombastic, composed ambitious as this one.

Aprile’s voice towers over the a-side “Capella”, it swells over and denies the mountains of washed out reverb one might expect. No one is hiding on either of these tracks, Silent Diane’s scope and arrangement is really direct and strong here, influenced by vintage soundscapes, but still somehow totally contemporary. No doubt, it’s powered by a synthetic pulse and futuristic keys but there is something undeniably human and intimate about this music and we’re proud to get to share it with you!

Again in Silent Diane’s words ”the music becomes a collaborative venture to join the pleasing and the unusual together. It is a product of living with yourself.” YES INDEED

                  TRACK LISTING

                  01 Capella
                  02 Lights On

The Silent Years acclaimed new album "The Globe" gets its UK release in September 2009 through Gift Music. Recorded by the band, mixed with Chris Coady (of TV On The Radio, Blonde Redhead, Grizzly Bear and !!! fame) and picking at the darkened Americana heartstrings of fellow travellers like Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, The Shins and Arcade Fire, the Detroit based band have built upon their Spin Magazine 'Underground Artist Of The Year' accolade to deliver an album of harmony and wonder. Described as thoughtful, edgy, orchestral and luxuriant, these songs reach gloriously upward - simultaneously immediate and timeless: a 'panoramic scene... endlessly open arms and room enough to breathe big and deep' (Daytrotter). "The Globe" title is itself a metaphor at play, a symbol of scale in each direction, as the songs shift naturally from the microscopic to the universal.

                  The Goodbye Plot

                  The Silent Fanfare EP

Hot on the heels of their debut self released single, which we sold by the bucketload here at Piccadilly, the Goodbye Plot boys are back with a new three track EP. This is another lilting, atmospheric and devastatingly beautiful EP, which brings to mind Jeff Buckley mixed with a bit of Sufjan Stevens and a bit of the pop majesty of early Turin Brakes (but in a good way!)

                    Silent Drive

                    Love Is Worth It

Members of Bane, Dasai and Drowning Man get together to craft a surprisingly subtle, intricate and beautiful album, that still manages to retain the explosive drive of punk. If the brooding, delicate opening bars and soulful, haunting vocals lull you into a false sense of security, it's very quickly, but very delightfully, blown away by a blazing, anguished aural assault...

                      Fall Silent

                      Drunken Violence

Triple beat breakdowns, speed riffs from Hell, from the opening note to the killer artwork, Fall Silent have produced one of the best hardcore / metal albums of the year. The follow up to "Six Years In The Desert", on "Drunken Violence" they approach their sound with more speed and anger than any other album the band has released. With the speed collapsing into powerful breakdowns, they have been described as Pantera meeting Black Flag in a dark alley with flicknives. Cool!

                        Fall Silent

                        Six Years In The Desert

Taking the DIY ethic and mixing hardcore, punk rock and death metal they use primal vocals and a precise monsterous guitar attack that will hit you like a punch in the gut. This CD collects the band's previously out of print releases and features 17 hard and nasty tracks.
