OOH / GET HIGHER

SOPHIE’s ‘OOH’ and ‘GET HIGHER’ are now available as a double A-side 12" vinyl. This release follows the single-series packaging format used for the other singles from PRODUCT: one track and slide image per side, black vinyl in a black inner sleeve, screen-printed with a white SOPHIE logo housed in a clear archive bag.

Earlier in 2025, Numbers marked 10 years since SOPHIE’s game-changing singles collection PRODUCT, with a special edition featuring 11 songs across Deluxe Vinyl and Compact Disc.

SOPHIE classics ‘BIPP’, ‘LEMONADE’ and ‘VYZEE’ were joined by two immaculate PRODUCT-era songs ‘OOH’ and ‘GET HIGHER’ recorded and produced at the time, each with colourful single artwork completing the set.

‘OOH’ is one of SOPHIE's earliest productions that has been through several revisions since 2011. It was one of three original tracks that Numbers had signed when SOPHIE uploaded the song alongside 'BIPP' and 'ELLE' to her Soundcloud, and while it had been through several iterations and speed changes, this finalised version was completed by SOPHIE in 2019.

SOPHIE once described ‘OOH’ as “hi tech club dance pop”. Musically speaking, the earworm hook is carved out by her signature portamento-infused synths and candy-coated lyrics, a firm cult classic approved by AG Cook and Charli XCX. Initially titled 'MAKE RESPECT', the track was first performed live by SOPHIE in 2011 to a handful of lucky people at a beach afterparty surrounding Sonar Festival, Barcelona and later that year at Manhattan's New Museum. The vocal was recorded as the first track in the same one-day recording session as SOPHIE's debut single 'NOTHING MORE TO SAY', released on the Huntley & Palmers label, where Sophie's songwriting was performed by the London vocalist Jaide Green.

The genesis of the ‘OOH’ and ‘NOTHING MORE TO SAY’ recording session is lore-worthy in its own right: after watching Jaide Green perform live with Olly Murs during the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009, SOPHIE reached out and invited Jaide to record in her home bedroom studio.

‘GET HIGHER’ was born during joyous sessions in 2013, when SOPHIE’s beat was introduced to the vocalists Cassie Davis and Sean Mullins. The track feels like a visionary precursor to ‘Vroom Vroom’, and doesn't sound out of place next to the sub-clang intensity of SOPHIE’s ‘HARD’ and ‘MSMSMSM’. Striking a playful balance between blissed-out hyperpop and club-ready Atlanta trap, it showcases SOPHIE’s signature, laser sharp sound design. Originally released as a bonus track on the Japanese CD edition of PRODUCT, ‘GET HIGHER’ has remained a hidden gem.

Matt says: The final missing piece of the Sophie jigsaw is made available and it's a double header so telling of the pioneering producer's fine hands that Sophie fans will 'shake it up and make it fiiiiizz!'

A groundbreaking producer, songwriter and performer, SOPHIE's visionary approach reshaped the landscape of pop and electronic music. Emerging in the early 2010s, SOPHIE introduced a hyper-detailed, futuristic sound defined by metallic textures, elastic basslines, and an uncanny blend of synthetic and emotional tones. Collaborating with artists including Charli XCX, Madonna, Vince Staples and Arca, SOPHIE helped pioneer a new pop movement while challenging conventions around identity, genre and production. SOPHIE's work continues to resonate deeply, leaving a lasting impact on a generation of artists and listeners alike. I Still Want To Share

Co-produced by Guy Massey (Spiritualised, The Divine Comedy, Kylie) and Sophie Jamieson, 'I Still Want To Share' is an album exploring the push and pull, merry-go-round nature of anxious attachment and how it weaves, cuts and steals through familial and romantic relationships.

Throughout the record is a perpetual longing to belong, a yearning to learn how to love and let go, and a continual missing of the mark. Each song clings tightly to the possibility of home, but never arrives there. The album was recorded in North London between Guy's studio and Konk Studios, with string arrangements from Josephine Stephenson (Daughter, Ex:Re, Lisa Hannigan) and drums from Ed Riman (Hilang Child).

      Art Ensemble Of Chicago

      Les Stances A Sophie - 2024 Reissue

On May 28, 1969, four American musicians - reed/wind players Roscoe Mitchell and Joseph Jarman, bassist Malachi Favors, and (accompanied by his wife, singer Fontella Bass) trumpeter Lester Bowie - boarded the ocean liner S.S. United States, bound for Le Havre, France. After landing five days later, they moved on to Paris, where they got to work.

The record, an exciting, eminently listenable combination of soul, classical, and jazz strains that survives as the Art Ensemble of Chicago’s most stylistically diverse album, has long been admired by a devoted cult.

        Sophie

        Sophie

This album was created by SOPHIE and some of her most cherished collaborators. Close to completion when she tragically died, it has been lovingly finalised by those who hold her closest. As SOPHIE’s studio manager and most trusted sounding board for over a decade, Benny Long was heavily involved in the release of Oil Of Every Pearl's Un-insides, with mastering, production and mixing credits to his name. The two then worked together over several years developing the concept and production of this follow-up album, which Benny has lovingly completed, honouring SOPHIE’s vision.

          Sophie Ellis Bextor

Murder On The Dancefloor - Music Box

‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ was the 2nd Single to be taken from English singer-songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s debut solo Album ‘Read My Lips’. It was released by Polydor Records in 2001 and became a worldwide Top 10 hit - reaching number two in the UK Singles Chart and achieving double-platinum certification.

In January 2024 the single was back once again at number two in the UK Chart, following its use in the infamous last scene of Emerald Fennell’s black comedy psychological thriller ‘Saltburn’, and the song’s subsequent surge of popularity on TikTok.

Our version of this noughties Disco-Pop dancefloor anthem won’t burn your goddamn house right down - but you know, you know, you know - you’ll steal the moves when you…

Keep that groove alive - with this Music Box!

            Sophie Jamieson

            Choosing

Released this summer via her new home at Bella Union, Sophie Jamieson’s ‘Choosing’ is a strikingly personal document of a journey from a painful rock bottom of self-destruction to a safer place imbued with the faint light of hope. Focusing on the bare bones of each song and taking inspiration from the direct and melodic work of songwriters such as Elena Tonra, Sharon Van Etten, and Scott Hutchison, it’s an album that sings openly of longing and searching, of trying, failing, and trying again – and always and throughout, the strength of love in so many varying forms.

Following on from the pair of EPs she released in 2020, Choosing finds its own shape by a subtle reforming of Jamieson’s sound. Where those EPs flirted with playful experimentation, here the overriding sound is both organic and simpler – live drums, bass, cello, and piano are used across the album – allowing space for Sophie’s mesmerising voice to take the spotlight, the songs delivered with the most direct and intimate impact.

              Bipp (Autechre Mx)

                Autechre remix SOPHIE'S "BIPP" !!!

In 2015, when the idea of potential remixes of “Bipp” were first floated, the unequivocal response from Sophie was ‘No remixes unless it’s Autechre.’

An Autechre live show recording from a Numbers show in 2005 had first inspired Sophie to source the equipment used to craft new music including “Bipp”, “Lemonade” & more. The “Bipp” Autechre mix a little over three minute burst of stripped back and loose, tribal-pop brilliance. Sounding like Autechre paying tribute to some serious late 80’s influences, the duo's interpretation channels an imagined transition point between industrial, electro and UK street soul, that pitched down vocal reconfigured into a wanna-be Latin Freestyle Natasha King, jiving over a deep slice of TR-606 funk technology that jars the jerks the body into some unusual and pleasant contortions. Erotic, anthemic and highly appealing across genre types, it’s got MASSIVE scrawled across its sleeve in imaginary type. Check!

Matt says: Rochdale's electronic mavericks grab the stems from Sophie's epochal "Bipp" track; transforming it into a loud n wobbly™ beast that'll swerve into many a DJs record boxes. Epic!

                Sophie Hunger

                Halluzinationen

Berlin-based, Swiss singer, multi-instrumentalist and film composer Sophie Hunger will release her seventh studio album - her first in two years - ‘Halluzinationen’ on August 28, 2020 via Caroline International. The album - recorded at Abbey Road Studios in live continuous takes - is produced by MPG UK Producer Of The Year, Speedy Wunderground’s Dan Carey (Kate Tempest, Fontaines DC), also at the helm for 2018’s ‘Molecules’ which featured 6Music play-listed single ‘I Opened A Bar’.

‘Halluzinationen’ arrives bearing an emphatic German title, as Hunger - still resident in Berlin’s Kreuzberg neighbourhood - picks at the creative dependency between loneliness and the imagination. Electing this time around to decamp from Carey’s Speedy Wunderground studio in South London to the august surrounds of Abbey Road’s Studio 2, ‘Halluzinationen’ is suffused with the nervous energy of its continuous live recording technique, with the album captured in sequence just six times over the course of two days. It’s an approach Hunger succinctly identifies as ‘Full risk’.

Sophie Hunger’s six solo albums to date have accrued over a quarter of a million sales, drawing her comparisons to contemporaries including Sharon Van Etten and PJ Harvey, with fans as wide-ranging as Lauren Laverne (who says of Sophie ‘I love this woman’), Steven Wilson (who tapped Hunger to guest on his UK Top 3 album ‘To The Bone’) and unlikely enough, footballing legend Eric Cantona (a long-standing fan of Sophie’s who guested to intone in French on ‘Supermoon’). Sophie made her debut at Glastonbury in 2010 as the first Swiss artist to ever play the festival (since selling out 1,000 capacity venues with ease on the continent), and 2016 saw Hunger also make her - very successful - first outing in film scoring, with her soundtrack for the Oscar & Golden Globe-nominated Ma Vie de Courgette earning her a Cesar nomination to boot.

                  Sophie

                  Oil Of Every Pearl's Un-Insides

A truly divisive artist, Sophie's ascension to pop stardom has taken a focused mindset and unwavering execution. Six years on from "Nothing More To Say" and following production work with Madonna, Charlie XCX and Vince Staples, Glasgow-raised, LA-based Sophie Xeon is back with nine tracks that skirt between majestic, auto-tuned mega-ballads, monstrous glitch-pop crushers and the usual hyped up, chipmunk chatter that's graced previous work.

Taking the PC Music rocket ship (one she practically built and engineered herself...) even further than previously intended, the hyper-reality of both her personal imagine, impressive body of work and dazzling catalogue of music videos feeds back into itself perfectly, reinforcing the star-like qualities of this leftfield anti-pop princess.

She recently debuted a live show at London's Heaven nightclub, which set the press and LGBTQ+ worlds alright through its ingenious creativity, provocative nature and of course, amazingly boundary-pushing music.

Opening with the Disney-friendly, auto-tuned blue sky ballad "It's Okay To Cry" before flying into the BDSM-draped aggro-electro punisher "Ponyboy" (please do check the video for this one folks - ed), and followed by the poignant "Faceshopping", it's an arresting opening triptych which sets the tone for the rest of the album - endorphin-rushing, neon-hued adventure pop for the queer and open minded! A masterpiece make no mistake.
