The Primitives

Everything's Shining Bright - The Lazy Recordings 1985-1987

Compiled with guitarist PJ Court, this 2-CD compilation boasts re-mastered music as well as a beautifully annotated booklet boasting rare photos and personal memories from the band.

Back in the mid-80s, The Primitives combined the fuzz guitars of The Jesus & Mary Chain with the pop sensibilities of Blondie and a nod to cult heroes The Velvet Underground. They swiftly rose from being a popular Indie guitar outfit to charting worldwide with “Crash”, kickstarting a craze in bands fronted by blonde female singers (Transvision Vamp, The Darling Buds et al).

Between 1985 and 1987, the band issued five singles/EP’s on independent label Lazy Records (also home to My Bloody Valentine and later Birdland) before signing with RCA.

This 2-CD set also boasts their promo-only live album at the ICA; as such, it offers their entire Lazy output from that period.

'Red Rose Speedway' (1973) is Wings’ lush, romantic sophomore album, marking Paul McCartney’s growing confidence as a writer and bandleader. Track highlights include the chart-topping ballad 'My Love', the exuberant opener 'Big Barn Bed', and the tender, multi-sectioned 'Little Lamb Dragonfly', which showcase McCartney’s melodic strengths. Originally envisioned as a double album, it ultimately emerged as a streamlined collection with a polished, soft-rock sound. 'Red Rose Speedway' helped solidify Wings as a commercially viable McCartney project and reinforced his dominance in early 1970s pop music.

Arthur Russell

Love Is Overtaking Me (Remastered/Redux)

Rough Trade Records / Audika Records present a remastered/redux double vinyl rerelease of the much-beloved compilation 'Love Is Overtaking Me' of Arthur’s folk, pop, and country songs including 'Planted a Thought', 'Close My Eyes' and 'I Couldn’t Say It To Your Face'.

Originally released in 2007 the redux edition includes new masters from a recently found pristine tape reel and was remastered by Timothy Stollenwerk at Stereophonic Mastering in Portland, OR. Revised artwork by Molly Smith with extensive liner notes from Arthur’s partner Tom Lee.

Over twenty years ago, Audika Records began compiling and releasing the exceptionally varied, long sought-after music of Arthur Russell, and in the process has succeeded at helping the beloved, late artist find the broader audience he always believed he would reach. A new generation of listeners and critics has come to appreciate Russell as a visionary and an influence upon a broad range of today’s most compelling musical artists.

While much critical and popular affection for Russell’s music has come about well after his untimely death from AIDS in 1992, many fellow artists believed in his genius and were drawn to collaborate with him during his lifetime. The legendary producer John Hammond (Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen) recorded Russell on several occasions; a number of these recordings now heard on 'Love Is Overtaking Me', along with songs recorded with various incarnations of The Flying Hearts, a group formed by Russell and Ernie Brooks whose shifting lineup included, by turns, Jerry Harrison, Rhys Chatham, Jon Gibson, Peter Gordon and Peter Zummo as well as Larry Saltzman and David Van Tieghem. Several other Russell projects are represented on Love Is Overtaking Me, including The Sailboats, Turbo Sporty and Bright & Early.

Compiled from over eight hours of material, 'Love Is Overtaking Me' reaches back further to Russell’s earliest compositions beginning in 1973 and spans forward to his very last recordings, made at home in 1991. Several of the songs featured prominently in Matt Wolf’s now herald 2008 film Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell.

The Pale Fountains

The Complete Virgin Years - 2026 Repress

• The Pale Fountains were an English band formed in Liverpool in 1980, and composed of Mick Head, Chris McCaffery, Thomas Whelan, Andy Diagram and Ken Moss.

• Inspired by 1960s music such as Love, Burt Bacharach and The Beatles, the group released their debut single ‘(There's Always) Something on My Mind’ in October 1982. Although the Pale Fountains failed to make much commercial headway, the band would earn critical praise for the two albums released on Virgin, ‘Pacific Street’ (1984) and ‘...From Across the Kitchen Table’ (1985).

This 4-CD box set brings together both albums as well as all the B-Sides, mixes, and some previously unreleased material from the Virgin vaults all housed in a sturdy box with extensive sleeve notes by Classic Pop’s John Earls.

Roy Ayers Ubiquity

Red Black & Green - 2026 Reissue

In the early 1970s, Roy Ayers formed his own band: Roy Ayers Ubiquity. Its lineup included artists well known to funk and soul fans such as Bernard Purdie, James Mason, and Edwin Birdsong.

This 1973 album presents Roy Ayers in the midst of a creative evolution toward a sound increasingly influenced by soul and funk, moving beyond the early phase of his musical career, which was more rooted in orthodox jazz.

On “Red Black & Green”, he teams up with highly accomplished collaborators such as keyboardist Harry Whitaker, arranger and producer William S. Fischer, and Strata-East musicians Charles Tolliver and Sonny Fortune. Here, however, the latter two do not venture into the spiritual jazz sounds so characteristic of their own recordings; instead, together they embrace a sophisticated funk groove where Ayers showcases his extraordinary vibraphone talent.

The album includes outstanding versions of ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ and ‘Day Dreaming,’ as well as original compositions such as ‘Cocoa Butter,’ ‘Rhythms of Your Mind,’ and the superb title track, ‘Red Black & Green.’

After years out of print, we are pleased to present this much-needed vinyl reissue of an essential album in Roy Ayers’ career. Pressed on 180g vinyl.

Primitive Ring

Primitive Ring

Primitive Ring consists of Bert Hoover (bass/vocals), Charles Moothart (guitar/vocals), and Jon Modaff (drums). The Los Angeles power trio formed in September 2024 when Hoover and Moothart came together seeking a new creative outlet. In 2025, the band released four 7"s on four different labels (Greenway, In the Red, Reverberation Appreciation Society, and Fuzz Club UK). They hauled amps and drums into bars to hone the sound of the newfound brotherhood that is Primitive Ring. Rock and roll is in its essence a primal experience, and the name reflects that. Three individuals collide and egos rattle, shedding layers and growing new limbs. Archetypes flash to the rhythm of a freight train and the crown is passed hand to hand like a good luck charm, symbolic and communal. Rock and roll is for the people and Primitive Ring is for the taking. At least it will be when the band's debut LP is hurled into the future via In the Red Recordings.

'Primitive Ring' is 11 tracks coming in just under 42 minutes. It was recorded by Mark Rains in December of 2025 at The Station House in Echo Park. The album is the genesis story of a lightning bolt flashing in the eternal drama of creation and destruction. The album showcases the distinct writing styles of each member, but the overall aesthetic is a woven tapestry demarcating the timeless meridian. The record is the spawning of a collective vision. This is something we all share, and we must remind one another how electric humanity can be.

The Prize

In The Red - UK Pressing

Melbourne's fave three-guitar rock'n'roll power poppers The Prize have at long last announced the imminent release of their debut album In The Red

The Prize made their debut for Anti Fade in 2022 with the EP Wrong Side of Town which prompted global interest in the band. They began recording the album in 2023 but the international tours caused delays, as did the departure of original bass player Jack Kong in early 2024. New bass player Ethan Stahl (formerly of UK band Chubby and the Gang) came on board a year ago after Jack helped the band finish the tracking process. Initial album sessions took place with Paul Maybury of Rocket Science at his A Secret Location studio, with subsequent tracks recorded with Matt Blach of the Murlocs at Gizz Studios (following The Prize's European run with King Gizzard late in 2023) and, in January of this year, with Robin Mukerjee of TV Colours.

The band, which features drummer Nadine Muller sharing lead vocals with guitarist Carey Paterson together with guitarists Joseph Imfeld and Austin Haire as well as new bass player Ethan, is known for its powerful three-guitar frontline and melodic twin lead guitar. It combines punk and classic hard rock with power pop and new wave and cites its influences as Thin Lizzy, Cheap Trick, Pretenders, Blondie, Rolling Stones, Faces, Flamin' Groovies, Tom Petty, Dwight Twilley, Phil Seymour, The Toms, The Nerves and The Motors.

As a premium live act with the tunes to back it up, The Prize have regularly found themselves playing with legendary groups like the Sunnyboys, Pavement, The Stems and Guitar Wolf in addition to their pals in King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The Murlocs and The Chats. Band members have recently started spreading themselves out into other bands as well, with Nadine and Ethan joining Josh Hardy of The Chats and The Unknowns in Loose Lips, Joe in The States and Austin in The Judges and his own solo venture, Ozzie Hair.

Fuzz

Fuzz - 2026 Repress

Fuzz is Ty Segall (drums / vocals), Charlie Moothart (guitar / vocals) and Roland Cosio (bass). They’re heavy rock lifers—three California-bred dudes who have been refining their riffs and getting weird together since high school (which wasn’t that long ago, actually).

If you are not already aware of Segall, well, what’s up? He’s one of garage rock’s most prolific sons. He said he was going to take it easy this year, but by the time you finish reading this, the onesheet for his next record will have already arrived in your inbox. Moothart plays guitar in The Ty Segall Band and was also a member of The Moonhearts, which included Cosio on guitar. Way back in the early ’00s, all three played in the Epsilons.

Fuzz was formed as a collaboration between Segall and Moothart, but only recently did the pair have sufficient time to guide the band out of side-project limbo and into a recording studio. Since then, they have released two singles, 'This Time I Got a Reason' (Trouble In Mind) and 'Sleigh Ride' (In The Red). Around the time of the latter, Cosio joined on bass.

They are not dabblers or dilettantes. Fuzz flipped through used bins, hard drives and record collections of the world, seeking out the finest weirdo cuts. The band’s self-titled debut LP, which was recorded by Chris Woodhouse (Thee Oh Sees, The Intelligence), dives deep, drawing inspiration from the more esoteric reaches of heavy metal pre-history. There are Sabbath and Hendrix nods, obviously, but on 'Sleigh Bells' you might also catch a whiff of UK progressive blues business like The Groundhogs, particularly when the song quits its 10/4-time intro and reboots into full-bore choogle. Maybe you’ll even glimpse the ghost of Australian guitar legend / sharpie guru Lobby Lloyde sniffing around 'Raise'.

The mood is not light. The songs project a state of perpetual paranoia and eroding mental health. And as it should be, you know? It’s a record for the burners.

Red Leather

Tahoe

The fringes of the desert have a way of changing a man, but the high-altitude chill of the Sierras will strip him down to his soul.

Following the gritty, neon-soaked introduction of his debut, Red Leather returns with his sophomore studio album, 'TAHOE'. If his first record was a desperate sprint through the dark alleys of the soul, 'TAHOE' is the cold morning after—a cinematic, sweeping exploration of isolation, clarity, and the jagged edges of recovery.

Named after the alpine lake that serves as both a sanctuary and a graveyard for secrets, the album navigates the duality of the landscape.

The songwriting dives deep into the "blue" period of his life—tackling themes of sobriety, the weight of sudden fame, and the ghosts of past versions of himself. It is an album about the silence that follows the storm, and the realization that the higher you climb, the thinner the air becomes.

Memo PST

Eternal Actors

LA Punks Memo PST return with another modern punk classic 'Eternal Actors', their new album on In The Red. These 12 tracks capture the fury of late '70s rough and raw punk rock, with Orville Neeley crafting hit after hit of god-tier punk bangers. Vocalist Chris Shaw is also at his most versatile to date, with his lyrical capabilities and patented punk sneers dripping across every song.

Simply put, 'Eternal Actors' finds two lords of the punk genre at their very best. There are classic punk bashers like 'Dog Groomer Stylist', and 'Doomed to Repeat' but also primitive, bare-bones rock rippers like 'Chrome Bubble' and 'Worship Me'. The band also delivers some of their most hardcore songs to date with 'Concrete Club' and 'Blown Away'.

With the San Clemente wrecking crew of Jackson Todd (drums) and Emmanuel Koulouris (bass) back again to round out the four piece band, this is truly a powerhouse presentation of punk music in 2026. If the band proved they were a punk force with their long sold out, self titled album, 'Eternal Actors' may solidify their place at the top of the punk pile.

Genre Is Death

Attractive People

Genre Is Death is an uncompromising noise duo made up of Ty V (guitar, vox) and Tayler Lee (bass, vox). Their sound is abrasive yet melodic, using heavy distortion, dissonant riffs, and reverberating vocals to create a wave of boldly hypnotic noise. The duo have been compared to the likes of Sonic Youth and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, yet have managed to create a sound that is distinctly their own, avoiding mimicking the zeitgeist of decades before. Beyond the integrity of their music, Tayler’s intimidating glare, or Ty’s staggering gait, the duo share something truly inimitable— the overwhelming feeling that their music is a byproduct of the high esteem they hold of each other.

The duo moved to NYC in August of 2023 looking for something more than their mundane suburban lifestyle of day drinking and playing doom metal in friends' basements…their move to NYC coupled with their desire to express something, anything, led to the inception of Genre is Death. The pair hit the ground running, playing anywhere and everywhere they could… however, it was only after a chance encounter with 80s noise forerunners Live Skull that the pair was introduced to the strange underbelly of NYC noise and began playing regular gigs with The Art Gray Noizz Quintet and Lydia Lunch. In 2025 the pair played New Colossus Festival, toured with Gogol Bordello, embarked on their first East Coast tour, and played gigs with Cherubs, Bush Tetras, and Jon Spencer. Their upcoming record was recorded with legendary sound engineer Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Swans).

The Reds, Pinks And Purples

Acknowledge Kindness

'Acknowledge Kindness' expands The Reds, Pinks And Purples’ distinctive brand of emotional pop, music built for the quiet hours and the restless mind. Evolving naturally from the heavier, melancholic indie rock of previous releases, the mood here feels more exposed and reflective, blossoming into lush dreamscapes that recall the bittersweet sorrow of The Cure or the tenderly gloomy transcendence of California by American Music Club.

Created from a new headspace, the album finds Glenn Donaldson observing both the present and the weight of what came before it. Songs lean into a deeper sense of nostalgia, allowing him to look back with intent and revisit moments that once carried a sting.

Donaldson comments: “This album is probably about learning to live with your ghosts and trying to be alive in the present. There’s a certain kind of big sounding record I aspire to make, like California by American Music Club or 16-Lover's Lane by The Go-Betweens, works that steer into the pain but become a transportational device for the listener.”

Donaldson’s vocals are captured in high fidelity, raw and immediate, with lyrical abstraction underpinned by chiming acoustic guitars and achingly beautiful piano.

‘New Leaf’ teases with a perpetual guitar line plucking at the heartstrings while a sub-melody cushions Donaldson’s musings. ‘Heaven of Love’ tackles cynicism with positive energy as it tumbles into a glorious chorus, while the guitars on ‘Worthy of Love’ chime dutifully as it dispels heavy memories and heads for a better place. Two plush instrumentals, the winsome ‘Blue Heron Lake’ and the symphonic title track, sound like Eno post Roxy pre ambient or Felt without words.

Having written more than 200 songs and released nine albums in just six years, Glenn Donaldson has shaped a distinctive songwriting world rooted in emotional clarity and romanticised wonder.

Across its 11 tracks, 'Acknowledge Kindness' expands The Reds, Pinks And Purples’ emotional and sonic panorama, with Donaldson’s ongoing world-building remaining both warmly nostalgic and strikingly original.

STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: There has always been a pronounced melancholic tinge to The Reds, Pinks And Purples' canon, but it comes to the fore here with Donaldson's voice and the well crafted shoegaze-adjacent instrumentals leaning heavily towards The Cure's particular brand of wavy, minor-key gloom. A solidly produced and wonderfully evocative journey, as ever.

Pareidolls

Jessie / Give And Take

Introducing Pareidolls, the formidable all-girl alt-rock five piece band from Merseyside. Big riffs, even bigger attitude, and a healthy slice of showbiz. Their debut 7" - Jessie - is four blistering minutes of youthful misadventure with a BEAT. These teenage wildcats been shaking up the scene in and around Liverpool for a year or so now and it's time for the rest of the world to catch up.

Blending sharp-edged rock with melodic New Wave influences the band have quickly built a reputation for songs that balance aggression with a pop sensibility. ''Jessie' captures the band's driving energy and hook-laden songwriting, while 'Give and Take' showcases a darker aspect to their sound.

Pareidolls are Georgia Attwood (vocals), Freya Wilcox (drums) Bethan Sheldrick (bass) Tabitha Law (guitar) and Biba Russell (guitar). Already well-established on the Merseyside music scene their sound and style recalls the golden age of female fronted rock bands , drawing comparisons with The Bangles, L7, The Go- Gos, Girlschool, Hole and The Donnas while remaining firmly rooted in the present.

Chris D / Poison Fang Society

Courtroom Wedding

'Courtroom Wedding', the feral new album by singer-songwriter-punk rock legend Chris D.’s new unit Poison Fang Society, succeeds In the Red Records’ release of two expansive albums by the bandleader’s Divine Horsemen, 'Hot Rise of an Ice Cream Phoenix' (2021) and 'Bitter End to a Sweet Night' (2022).

The taut, economical eight-song set grew out of several songs penned in the immediate wake of the COVID pandemic lockdown and originally envisioned as material for a third Divine Horsemen record. But logistical problems involving the band’s co-lead singer Julie Christensen’s ability to record in Los Angeles led to the formulation of a new solo configuration rooted in the past.

Poison Fang Society guitarist Larry Schemel, most recently of Death Valley Girls, and Tucson-bred drummer Johnny Ray are both veterans of the eight-piece lineup heard on the Flesh Eaters’ 1999 album 'Ashes of Time'. They are joined by bassist-keyboardist-guitarist Sharif Dumani, who also engineered the collection and co-produced with Chris D.

The songs Chris brought to the studio reflect a shift in style: “I was really trying to write some more traditional kinds of songs, but not make them sound really anonymous. On the last couple of albums, the Divine Horsemen albums, there was a lot more cut-up stuff. I still did some cut-up in the lyrics with this record, but not as much. The lyrics to ‘Cellars to Weep’ were very influenced by songs like Bob Dylan’s ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’ or ‘Highway 61 Revisited,’ even though song doesn’t sound like that. I wanted to keep that kind of surrealist humor that Bob Dylan has — those nonsense phrases that add meaning when they’re all put together.”

With tracks inspired by subjects as diverse at the gun-toting MAGA couple who pointed their weapons at Black Lives Matter protesters ('Goddamn Thieving Shame') to the sleazy come-on cover lines of ‘50s pulp paperbacks ('Sex Kitten'), 'Courtroom Wedding' flexes a lean, potent sound that recalls the knife-edge attack of the Don Kirk-era Flesh Eaters and the heavyweight vibe of Chris’ second solo album (as Stone by Stone), 1989’s 'I Pass for Human'. Like this punk grand master’s finest work, it displays an electric, tormented immediacy.

“'Courtroom Wedding' sounds more live than the Divine Horsemen records,” Chris says, “and I think that’s a good thing.”

Earth Tongue

Dungeon Vision

Ushering in a new era, Berlin based, New Zealand heavy psych duo Earth Tongue lower the castle gates on their third album 'Dungeon Vision', a trove of fuzz-drenched anthems produced by garage rock luminary Ty Segall in Los Angeles.

Guitarist Gussie Larkin and drummer Ezra Simons spent the Berlin winter of 2025 refining the album’s twelve tracks in their self-described “windowless cave” rehearsal space, crafting a record that channels both isolation and the duo’s live intensity. With the songs finally taking shape and a studio deadline looming, they flew to Los Angeles to turn their hard-won ideas into the real thing. Once there, the band and Ty captured lightning in a bottle, recording and mixing 'Dungeon Vision' in just ten days at Altamira Sound.

Tracked live to tape, 'Dungeon Vision' pulses with human energy, fuzz guitars, bone-battering drums, and hauntingly tuneful vocals. Ty Segall’s influence is all over the record with Ty choosing the best takes based on feel rather than technical perfection. The “king of fuzzy guitar tones” pushed the duo to find new sonic textures while championing their raw chemistry.

“Ty’s been a big driving force,” says Ezra. “We supported him in New Zealand back in 2023, and he’s backed us ever since even bringing us on tour through Europe and the UK in 2024.”

Since their emergence in 2016, Earth Tongue’s world-building, visuals, and relentless touring have earned them global attention and a cult-like following. Their 2024 album 'Great Haunting', also released on In The Red Records, received a Taite Music Prize nomination and saw them win Best Group at the 2025 Aotearoa Music Awards. They’ve toured extensively, sharing stages with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, IDLES, Acid King, Brant Bjork and Kikagaku Moyo.

With 'Dungeon Vision', Earth Tongue deliver their most immersive work yet, a richly human, fuzz-soaked journey that bottles the magic of their live show and cements their reputation as one of the most exciting psych rock acts on the planet.

Big Sexy Noise

Live In Italy

The unholy triumvirate of Big Sexy Noise featuring Lydia Lunch, James Johnston (Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Faust) & Ian White (Barry Adamson) of the notorious Gallon Drunk are dead set on proving once more that ROCK is alive and kicking, down and dirty and raunchier than ever!

Lunch helped pioneer no wave in 1977 with the slashing din of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks and has remained a caustic presence in the alt-rock firmament ever since. Big Sexy Noise unites her with guitarist James Johnston and drummer Ian White of guttural London greasers Gallon Drunk for the most joyfully bawdy music of her career, stripping bare the bluesy brawn of 70’s heavy-rock and inverting its every cock-rock cliche to Lunch’s delight.

White’s limber shuffle injects sinful grace into what could have been Neanderthal sludge, while Johnston stirs up the din of an entire band with his single guitar, hurtling between bone-simple, steamy riffs and blasts of near psychedelic noise.

Big Sexy Noise, 'Live in Italy', a fierce, fearless, tub thumbing, balls to the wall rock monsterpiece.

Thee Oh Sees

Carrion Crawler / The Dream - 2026 Repress

What’s the first thing you think of when someone mentions Thee Oh Sees? Probably their riot-sparking live show, right? Visions of a guitar-chewing, melody-maiming John Dwyer careening across your cranium, rounded out by a wild-eyed wrecking crew that drives every last hook home like it’s a nail in the coffin of what you thought it meant to make 21st-century rock ’n’ roll? Yeah, that sounds about right. But it misses a more important point—how impossible Thee Oh Sees have been to pin down since Dwyer launched the project in the late ’90s as a solo break from such sorely missed underground bands as Pink and Brown and Coachwhips. (While Dwyer still records songs on his own, Thee Oh Sees is now a five-piece featuring keyboardist / singer Brigid Dawson, guitarist Petey Dammit, drummer Mike Shoun and multi-instrumentalist / singer Lars Finberg.) That restlessness extends to everything from the towering, thirteen-minute title track of 2010’s 'Warm Slime' LP to the mercurial moods of 2008’s 'The Master’s Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In'.

Now, Thee Oh Sees chase the home-brewed symphonies of Castlemania with the scrappy, high-wire hooks of 'Carrion Crawler / The Dream'. Originally envisioned as two EPs, it was cut live to tape in less than a week at Chris Woodhouse’s Sacramento studio in June, reflecting the battering-ram bent of the band’s live show better than any bootleg ever could. “As I’m sure most would agree,” explains Dwyer, “Castlemania was more of a vocal tirade. This one’s meant to pummel and throb.” That it does, whether one blasts the slow, speaker-bruising build of 'The Dream', the sunburnt organs and dovetailing guitars of 'Crack in Your Eye' or the interstellar instrumental 'Chem-Farmer', a perfect example of what happens when one takes a well-oiled machine—a gang of rabid road warriors, really—and adds a second, groove-locked drum set to the mix. To listen is to realize that Dwyer’s music is as manic as the underground comic inclinations of his artwork; colorful and confusing in a way that’s more than welcome. It’s downright refreshing, like a slap in the face at 5:00 in the morning. Or, as Dwyer puts it, “You have to leave a mark somehow.”

Redd Kross / Hard-Ons

Tour Split

REDD KROSS & THE HARD-ONS. From LA and Sydney respectively. Separated by an ocean, but with ties that go back to when they were label mates on the US Big Time label in 1987 and maybe even further. Beyond that the connections are plentiful; both started playing out on their respective punk scenes when they were very young - Redd Kross as pre-teens and mid-teens in '79-80, The Hard-Ons as mid-to-late teenagers in '82-83 - and both ruffled plenty of feathers when they did. Both bands transgressed the accepted boundaries of punk, and both pushed audience excitement buttons with high energy, great tunes, an outrageous visual element and a willingness to not only include '60s pop influences into their punk sounds, but also flashy and trashy '70s hard rock.

Indeed, two bands were arguably the first two to understand the musical thread that joined Kiss and the Ramones, and in doing so they together helped make the world a brighter place.

Current Hard-Ons singer Tim Rogers goes back decades with Redd Kross too - a young You Am I were on the bill when Redd Kross toured Australia with the Hoodoo Gurus back in 1994.

LJ Simon Feat. Denice Brooks

Givin' Up

Red Motorbike hits the road in '26 with an original production from Berlin's master of boogie-funk: LJ Simon!

"Givin' Up" is a soulful modern funk 7" steeped in warm '80s analogue production and classic groovesmithery. The OG version blends vintage synth textures with a deep, understated rhythm section. Known for his love of fat-sounding vintage gear, LJ Simon begins every song with no blueprint, working purely from sound, instinct, and feel, tuning in to receive what the moment brings. The influences are unmistakable, yet the result feels fresh, intuitive and alive.

Vocals are delivered by Denice Brooks, a formidable singer from Austin, Texas, now based in Berlin. Denice built her solo career while performing with an exceptional list of artists including Tina Turner, Roy Ayers, David Bowie, Nancy Wilson, Natalie Cole, and many others. She is notably the only singer to receive Prince's blessing to record an official cover of "Purple Rain" - a distinction that speaks volumes about her artistry. Her career has taken her across Germany, Europe, the Middle East, and South Africa, where she even once performed for Nelson Mandela. Her continued experience across stage, studio, television, and musical theatre shines through in a vocal performance rich in depth and soul.

Label head Eddie C offers up his Disko Mix and reframes the track through a '90s street soul lens; stripped-back, dusty, and perfectly tuned for late-night selectors and heads-down dancefloors.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Just as the light nights begin to raise their head above the winter parapet, we get this street soul swaying, day time dreamer, tailor made for soundsystems and soul food.

The House Of Love - 2026 Reissue

THE HOUSE OF LOVE were one of the most successful and critically acclaimed bands to grace Creation Records back in the late 1980s.

Their eponymous debut album, which was cited as one of the best albums of 1988 by music magazines and indie fans alike, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year!

For the first time, the album is remastered from the original quarter-inch tapes, especially for this limited double vinyl edition in a gatefold sleeve.

Disc one replicates the original LP while Disc Two mops up all of the non-album tracks from various singles, from the original version of ‘Shine On’, ‘Real Animal’ and ‘Christine’ to their final single for the label, ‘Destroy The Heart’.

Irlam's dastardly duo are back with another bonza bucket of bass, breaks and badness as they fire up Studio Krust for another high octane session.
Sure to top the Fairground charts and further enrage the Hell's Angels, 'Synthetic Stupidity' sees the pair unleash their full force unabashed, as they hit a purple patch full of new found and frankly quite surprising productivity (rumours of a European-wide sputnik shortage are the likely catalyst).

Fractionally distilling their many collective years of dance music experience into 12 refined pieces of advanced club kinetics that skirt between the syncopated intricacies of breakbeat science and maxed-out 4/4 propulsion.
More hyped-up vox & frantic sampling, more tension, tons of one-finger keyboard melodies, and - as usual - moments of sonic tomfoolery to flummox the assumers.
With their drug debts paid off and a forced clarity of mind, 'Synthetic Stupidity' is a more expansive, deeper and unhurried project; allowing Bosco and Metrodome the space and time to truly deliver the zenith of their sound.

This, is DJ ABSOLUTELY SHIT!!!

Lydia Lunch And The Art Gray Noize Quinter

Permafrost B/w Mass Production

THE ART GRAY NOIZZ QUINTET is spearheaded by twisted Australian guitar legend STU-ART GRAY, most notoriously known as STU SPASM of LUBRICATED GOAT, CRUNT, SALAMANDER JIM, and THE BEASTS OF BOURBON. Adding another crazed chapter to an already solidly sordid musical history, THE ART GRAY NOIZZ QUINTET stars some of the finest scoundrels of the New York City underground scene - SKELETON BOY of WOMAN on two-string bass, NIKKI D'AGOSTINO on sax, and veteran drummer RICH HUTCHINS of LIVE SKULL providing the savage, swinging beat. A rotating roulette of characters swagger into the second guitar slot as needed, each showcasing their particular specialty - twang, treble, or atmosphere. Stuart Gray's wayward path through the flashpoints of noise, grunge, and swamp-rock history is well-represented in the Quintet's sound - chaos with a cinematic edge. Sharing stages with kindred spirits such as THE SCIENTISTS and MUDHONEY got the attention of audiences early on. Their recordings and incendiary gigs throughout the New York scene and beyond soon caught the eye of the infamous LYDIA LUNCH, and it was only a matter of time before a new collaboration was born...

Now, THE ART GRAY NOIZZ QUINTET collide with the queen of no wave LYDIA LUNCH on a new two-fisted ten-inch single . . . Melting the MAGAZINE classic "PERMAFROST", and grinding out an apocalyptic version of IGGY POP's "MASS PRODUCTION".

Red Leather

Reno

'RENO', the debut album from Red Leather, is a scorched-earth confession wrapped in the swagger of classic rock and the soul of Americana. Written in the aftermath of addiction, heartbreak, and self-reckoning, it’s an unflinching look at what it means to burn your life down and start over. Across its 14 tracks, Red Leather howls through desert nights and neon cityscapes, blending grit and grace in equal measure. Songs like 'Deathwish', 'Burn in Hell', and 'The Only Time It Rains in Hollywood' are raw, cinematic, and deeply human—each one a snapshot of pain, defiance, and redemption. Equal parts road trip and resurrection, 'RENO' cements Red Leather as one of the most compelling new voices in modern rock.

Twelve Il Bosco edits of new wave bangers tried and tested down in the Manctalo Disko at The White Hotel and beyond...

'No digital will be sold. Again as we said plenty of times before the reason we don't sell the digital tracks is out of respect for the original artists. We make no money on pressing vinyl.

It's expensive. time consuming and nobody fukin buys it anymore.
We do it because we love this shit and the chance to share our discoveries with ya'll.
We hope our compilations serve as an advert for the original artists.
You fall in love with a track, find out who it is and then go and discover more about them.

Shouts here to Hysteric (Mothball Records) for track 3 and Kelvin Andrews & Balearic Mike (Down To The Sea And Back) for putting me onto Car Crash Set leading me to discover track 1.'

Music City

Welcome To Music City

Ireland's rock legacy runs deep, from Thin Lizzy to The Undertones. Today it's 'Euro-country' queen CMAT, rap rebels Kneecap, and post-punk runners Fontaines D.C. -- and now Dublin born-London based Music City, adding another bold chapter to the story with their hook-driven, punk-fired debut .Welcome to Music City'.

The album blends wry storytelling with chiming guitars, stacked harmonies, and muscular rhythm sections. "I didn't set out with a theme or story arc, but looking back the album feels like a constant fight between hope and disappointment," shares songwriter Conor Lumsden (also drummer, singer and songwriter in Dublin favourites The Number Ones). "It's the peaks and troughs of just trying to get by, in love, against the outside forces, or the ones inside your own head". Single 'Common Sense' is a swaggering, hook-laden anthem featuring Tina Halladay of Sheer Mag, delivered with the passion of a 12-year-old playing guitar in the mirror.

Music City have toured with Sheer Mag and Parquet Courts, and recently returned from Spain and Italy supporting The Lemon Twigs. Put those names together and you'll start to hear where Music City are coming from...

Ailbhe Reddy

KISS BIG

Ailbhe Reddy is a Dublin-born songwriter whose music captures the quiet intensity of life’s in-between moments. Her third album 'KISS BIG' is a breakup record — but not in the traditional sense. It explores what happens after the fallout: the numbness, the confusion, the brief flashes of clarity. How identity slips, rearranges, and occasionally reforms. Written between London, New York, Dublin and Donegal, 'KISS BIG' draws on literary influences like Fleishman Is in Trouble and Sarah Kane’s 'Crave', combining diaristic lyrics with soft-spoken intensity. The result is a record that sits somewhere between indie rock and confessional folk, echoing the emotional weight of artists like Julia Jacklin, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus.

Reddy’s previous albums 'Personal History' and 'Endless Affair' earned critical acclaim and a Choice Music Prize nomination, with praise from outlets like The Guardian, Pitchfork, and The Times. She’s performed at Glastonbury, SXSW, The Great Escape and beyond, steadily building a loyal audience drawn to her honesty and emotional precision. With 'KISS BIG', Reddy leans further into her ability to make the personal feel universal. These are songs for endings, almosts, and the quiet beginnings that come after.

Buzzcocks

Attitude Adjustment

Brand new album from punk pioneers Buzzcocks.

It’s punk rock with a Motown vibe! A new album should always have elements of surprise and create its own world, and this does!

It avoids the cliché and expands the Buzzcocks’ magical journey!

Legendary Manchester punk outfit Buzzcocks need little introduction. Back in 1977, they gave birth to a generation of independent labels with their debut EP ‘Spiral Scratch’. Thereafter, their melodic punk-pop proved irresistible, leading to hit singles and three landmark albums. They broke up in 1981 but reunited in 1989 and have been going steady ever since. Sadly, singer Pete Shelley passed away in 2018 but founder member and the band’s other singer/ songwriter Steve Diggle has kept the flag flying.

2026 sees them release their 12th studio album 'Attitude Adjustment' which is bursting with 14 brand new tracks that will delight fans of the iconic and much loved Manchester music institution.

CBGB: A New York City Soundtrack 1975-1986

“CBGB was a place for the dirty people.” - Jimmy Destri of Blondie

“Afterwards, I took off and went crosstown to CBGB’s, the stronghold of the unknown, to be with my own people.” - Patti Smith

In December 1973 Hilly Kristal changed the name of his roots music bar from Hilly’s on the Bowery to CBGB and altered his musical policy to hire mostly rock bands. He was indifferent to many of them (“No one is going to like you guys, but I’ll have you back,” he told Joey Ramone), blissfully unaware of how important his scruffy little club would soon become.

In the span of only 15 months, the five groups that comprise the CBGB’s pantheon all debuted: Television in March 1974, followed by Ramones in August and Blondie in October, then Patti Smith in February 1975 and Talking Heads four months later.

Those five groups all quickly got record deals and became popular enough to outgrow CBGB’s. By the fall of 1977, Smith was the only one who was still playing there. What succeeded the Big Five was an array of new and retro styles, all of which feature here: No Wave (Sonic Youth, Mars, DNA, Bush Tetras), post-punk (Ritual Tension, Unknown Gender, Khmer Rouge), mutant funk and R&B (James Chance & The Contortions, Mink DeVille), art-rock bands (R.L. Crutchfield’s Dark Day, The Revelons, Erasers, Jeff and Jane Hudson) hardcore punk (Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Vatican Commandos, Beastie Boys), and lots of power pop (Sorrows, The dBs, The Rudies, The Miamis, The Paley Brothers) .

The club’s best-known bands are present on this compilation but we’ve also revived interest in dozens of unfairly forgotten acts that, for a moment in time, made an album, EP, 45, or even a demo that crackled with innovation, wit, and joy.

CBGB no longer exists, at least not in the physical plane, but what happened between those soot-filled, beer-stinking walls continues to reverberate around the world.

Fuzz

Fuzz's Fourth Dream: Singles, Demos And Rarities

Fuzz, the California based trio of Ty Segall (vocals, drums), Charles Moothart (vocals, guitar), and Chad Ubovich (vocals, bass), present their latest release Fuzz’s Fourth Dream on In The Red Records. This is the band’s first release in four years and is a collection of singles, unreleased demos, and rarities.

“I lived in a four-bedroom house in San Francisco that housed anywhere from six to ten people at a time,” Moothart explains. “Friends were always crashing when they were between spots, on tour, or just couldn’t make it home. It was a chaotic space, but a space that was cherished by many. Chad frequently crashed on our couch when on tour—surrounded by ashtrays full of cigarettes and joint roaches; beer cans and spray paint cans.

“I remember jamming on guitar and drums with Ty at like 2 AM in the garage (still feel bad for putting the neighbors through that.) One day, under Ty’s guidance, I dragged a 388 in to the garage. I decided I wanted to write a Sabbath-style riff just to see what happens. I laid down some drums, then came up with what would become “Fuzz’s Fourth Dream.”.I showed Ty the ‘demo’ which was more of a sloppy idea. He basically said ‘Let’s make this band”... and Fuzz was off. “This collection really does give a proper road map to what this band is and was, as well as how the two connect,” Moothart explains. “Fuzz means a lot to me, and I have learned so much through these processes. Thank you to any one who has been listening to these songs since the beginning, and thank you to any one who is here for the first time.”

STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Ooof, there's so much gold here that hasn't been heard and it's really no surprise that Fuzz have a wealth of superb unheard cuts, and you really need to hear these to believe how good. Obviously the singles are all top-notch. Big tip for the Fuzz KC cover too. Ace.

Cat Power

Redux

Cat Power is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her milestone 2006 album, 'The Greatest', with 'Redux'.

Recorded by GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer and longtime collaborator Stuart Sikes (Loretta Lynn, The White Stripes) at Austin, TX’s Church House Studios with backing by Dirty Delta Blues – the all-star supergroup assembled for the world tour that followed The Greatest comprising guitarist Judah Bauer (The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion), keyboardist Gregg Foreman (The Delta 72, Jesse Malin), bassist Erik Paparozzi (Lizard Music), and drummer Jim White (Dirty Three, Hard Quartet) – 'Redux' includes a brand new re-recording of James Brown’s chart-topping classic, 'Try Me', premiering everywhere today. The track was among those first recorded by the singer-songwriter otherwise known as Chan Marshall during the original sessions that produced 'The Greatest' but never completed.

Various Artists

Musik Music Musique 1979

We present the fourth volume in this critically acclaimed series - this time a prequel, exploring the transitional year 1979, a period which saw electronic pop move from curio, fad and novelty status into the credible post-punk pop landscape. A story of experimental and eccentric artists, outsider aesthetics and the fusion of the spirit of punk with a pop sensibility.

Featuring an array of artists who would become household names and dominate the pop scene during the first half of the 1980s, alongside lesser-known scenesters, independent innovators and one-off scene hoppers, ‘Musik Music Musique 1979’ provides a perfect backdrop to our previous three volumes. Call it a prequel, call it back story - packed with great pop music, a twist of the weird and wonderful and plenty of floor-fillers, this is a snapshot of a vital year in the wake punk rock, when a new path suggested throughout the 1970s was finally cut, paved and explored.

Eclectic, endlessly innovative and, most importantly, enduringly listenable, ‘Music Musik Musique 1979’ is an international adventure, throwing the spotlight on those brave enough to take the first steps into the rainbow of electronic music that would come to define the 1980s.

Chip Kinman

Chip Kinman

In 2022, In the Red Records released 'The Great Confrontation', an album of instrumental electronic music by Chip Kinman. It was Chip’s first solo album; his previous recording, 'This American Blues', by his band Ford Madox Ford, was issued just prior to the 2018 death of his brother Tony. The Kinmans had been partnered musically since they were teens, in a variety of now-legendary projects: the OG California punk band the Dils, the pathfinding cowpunk unit Rank and File, the ear-shattering electro-rock duo Blackbird, and the Western music twosome Cowboy Nation.

In the wake of 'The Great Confrontation', Chip and In the Red plotted another record. The resultant collection, Chip Kinman, is reflective, soulful, and profoundly affecting, a statement of identity and a look back at life that avoids the pitfalls that could derail an autobiographical work.

"I had to figure out something to write about, and I thought, it’s time to make that record," Chip says. "A long time ago, Tony and I were talking about singer-songwriters, and he said, ‘If you’re going to sing about your life, you better have had a fucking interesting life.’ And I thought, I have. I’ve gotta deep-dive into that. I figured, if I was going to write about what it was like, how was I gonna approach that? How was I going to say that without being nostalgic or without being maudlin or without being over-celebratory? It it was, well, just say it like it was."

The album features several moving, personal new songs: the heartfelt 'Me and Tony', about the Kinmans’ lifelong brotherly pursuit of music; 'Goodbye Rock and Roll', an account of a freshman summer fling with an “older woman”; and 'So Young', a look back at the Kinman crew’s nocturnal prowls of L.A. Looming mortality is touched on in 'Brian', a portrait of an L.A. musician coping with his partner’s death, and the staggering, literally cosmic finale 'Forever Shining'.

As its self-declaratory title suggests, Chip Kinman was largely a solo work, with its author producing and also playing most of the instruments (including, for the first time, drums). But some old punk compatriots leant a hand: Alice Bag of the Bags and Juanita and Juan, In the Red’s duo act with Kid Congo, Cliff Roman of the Weirdos, Mike Watt of the Minutemen and Ford Madox Ford’s drummer S. Scott Aguero.

Chip says, “When I was writing I thought, ‘Who am I writing this for? Why am I still making records? Who’s gonna buy this record? Who’s gonna listen to this record?’ And I really wanted to make a record for people like you, people like me. I wanted to make a record for people who went through the same things I did, at the same time I did, who took that same musical journey at the same time I did. That’s really who the record’s for.”

Herbie May

Bleedings / Shoelaces

First single on Red Liquorice Records - the label started by Lounge Society member Herbie May. It's Herbie who contributes two tracks to the label debut (with Lily Rae Grant quickly following up with the 2nd release...).

"Bleedings" is a woozy and laid back song reminiscent of a young (and drunk?) Bill Callahan. The lyrics belie Herbie's young age, as does his intimate mic technique and effortless strumming. Infact the whole track feels like its been birthed completely organically with little manipulation between the song's conception and it's recording. A subtle masterpiece.

"Shoelaces" takes the same stylistic cues - gentle strumming, hushed vocals, transparent production - with Herbie's lyrics again the focal point. You'll want to decipher every word!

Really strong stuff from Red Liquorice - a label to keep an eye on through 2026!

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: More magic from the Calderdale valley! We were introduced to Red Liquorice last week with the incredible Lily Rae Grant 7". This is their first release, by label founder Herbie May (from Lounge Society). An equally heartfelt, sincere and warming record with clever lyrics and charismatic guitar playing. I'm already keen to hear a full album by both of these cats (Herbie & Lily)! Defo a label to keep an eye on.

Lily Rae Grant

Poison Ivy / Forget About

Lily Rae Grant is an 18 year old singer songwriter blending soulful folk and country with dreamy, atmospheric indie. Moving between delicate acoustic moments and cinematic textures, her music is melodic, expressive and immersive. Based between Manchester and Todmorden, genre fluid Lily is shaping a sound that feels honest, spacious and unmistakably hers. Quietly confident and emotionally vivid.

Written and performed by Lily Rae Grant
Produced by John D Grant and Lily Rae Grant
Violin by Daniel Bridgewood-Hill
Backing vocals by Olivia Howie

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Landing confidently between the delicate folk of Mazzy Star and the loose Balearic-friendly swagger of Jonathon Wilson is no easy feet; but rising star of the Todmorden - Manchester axis, Lily Rae Grant, impresses greatly on her debut release. Already championed by MCR tastemaker and master DJ James Holroyd, there's summat special brewing here TRUST US.

The Saints '73-'78

Live Nights In Venice Vol. 1

In 2024 Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay from the original line up of The Saints assembled The Saints ’73-’78 featuring Mark Arm (Mudhoney), Mick Harvey (Birthday Party/Bad Seeds) and Peter Oxley (Sunnyboys). The band’s mission was to play songs from the first three Saints albums by the original line up on an Australian tour. The tour was a massive success with all shows sold out and reviews being nothing short of raves. Now the band are bringing their show to Europe and the US so we’ve conspired with the band to do this very limited edition twelve inch four song EP that shows how blistering their performances are.

Glasshouse Red Spider Mite

What Do You Mean The Monster?... Hahaha

Glasshouse Red Spider Mite share their much awaited debut EP ‘What Do You Mean The Monster?… Hahaha’ on its first vinyl pressing.

Recorded by Louis Milburn (Folly Group) - a “one of a kind friend & talented producer” according to bassist Alex - in the back of an audio equipment shop, the EP is a diverse but cohesive collection of slow-burners, delivering an incredibly well-developed exploration of instrumental and lyrical storytelling, and the band’s longstanding musical relationships with each other.

Growing up together in Devon, and initially forced together by the encouragement of a secondary school music teacher, Glasshouse Red Spider Mite began in earnest in 2023 in Brighton. Their first two singles in 2024 created a buzz in the local scene and industry; with this EP they have attempted to create their first signature body of work, and plant their flag in the ground. The band say “The songs were written before we even dreamt of playing our first shows, let alone before seeing the release of our first music as a band. No one knew about these songs & we weren't exactly sure if people would one day hear them. They only existed between us four until we found the courage to give this band a go.”

Drummer Benji explains that the EP is “a testament to our friendship, a strong bond & commitment to the cause. A vessel for therapy - helping each other keep mobilised, in belief & pushing towards a collective objective or something out of our individual control or capacities… an emotional outpouring of vulnerability, absolute honesty & healing.”

The EP immerses the listener, carefully rising from tense beginnings into unflinching heights. Guitarist Ethan says that the songs “all help to tell a story from a time that feels hard to put into words.” Each rhythm is a fault line waiting to crack open. Despite this, the tracks manage to remain sensitive in their delivery, through layers of swelling guitar, atmospheric strings and insistent percussion. Slow-building, deliberate, and massive in its impact. The band say this EP is about “facing all the pieces of yourself that you’ve let run riot. It’s about revealing yourself to yourself. Questioning your judgements & challenging your laurels. Using past pain to build a fear-free future. It’s post-rock. It’s the sound of the hole in your heart & the pit in your stomach.”

On ‘What Do You Mean The Monster…’ the band have tried to “encapsulate the highs & lows which the 'monster' that life seems to be, swallows you whole… there's been a lot of change, turbulence & learning to understand ourselves, which we think is trapped in the music we make.”

‘What Do You Mean The Monster?… Hahaha’ is available for the first time vinyl, containing a 20+ minute physical exclusive track ‘Spider Mite Season’. It is the band’s first release on London indie label, Memorials of Distinction, whose previous releases include Porridge Radio, caroline, Grove, Naima Bock, Kiran Leonard, and JPEGMAFIA.

In the wake of the EP, Glasshouse Red Spider Mite had sold out headline shows in London (Third Man) and Brighton (Alphabet), followed by their festival debut playing 2 sets at End Of The Road Festival, followed by their international debut at 043 in Maastricht, and then supporting Dutch Interior on their UK tour. This followed supporting Porridge Radio’s UK tour in 2024.

Henry Cow

The Henry Cow Box Redux: The Complete Henry Cow

UPDATED VERSION OF BOXSET. Now with an extra CD Glastonbury

18 CDs, 1 DVD and 250 pages of histories, chronology, testimony and commentaries by the band, sundry contemporary documents, and rare photographs - in a sturdy box.

This collection brings together in an inexpensive and definitive edition the full contents of all earlier releases, with the addition of a further 60pp booklet of newly unearthed, or commissioned, band commentaries, pictures and other documents prepared specifically for this box - as well as re-mastered versions of all the studio CDs and the rare bonus CD (Cabinet of Curiosities), which came with the subscription edition of earlier live boxed set.

This collection offers a major retrospective of one of Britain's most resilient and elusive bands - and a redress to the rather over-tidy story told on their 5 officially released LPs.

Like Frank Zappa or Harry Partch, Henry Cow were mavericks, working without compromise at the edge of their field and systematically breaking the rules and conventions that restrained it. In the 40 years since they disbanded, their work has acquired a formidable reputation, leading finally to this definitive collection - which replaces a chaotic mass of degraded bootlegs with properly mastered, carefully selected and thoroughly annotated lost projects, compositions and performances. And Henry Cow was, above all else, a live band.

Released also to coincide with the publication by Duke University Press of Ben Piekut's book Henry Cow: The World is a Problem

Max Graef

Rivers Of The Red Planet (Anniversary Edition)

Max Graef turns his attention back to his universally adored debut, 'Rivers of the Red Planet', and offers up an exclusive gatefold edition on marbled vinyl.

As such, on revisiting Rivers of the Red Planet for this Anniversary Edition, Graef decided to go beyond the basic repackaging and demo offcuts to deliver something meaningful that marks the passing of time and offers a fascinating answer to the sort of 'what-ifs' so many fans of the album will have pondered.

The new versions of key album tracks are as fascinating for the similarities as the differences, still bursting with the expressive flair of a versatile beat maker while comfortably leaning into a richer variety of moods and grooves. 'Running (Ancient Mix)' is a downtempo dancehall-tinged dream that repositions Wayne Snow's wistful vocal in a street soul reverie replete with 90s RnB MIDI-harp. 'Superswiss (Atmosphere Mix)' leans on plastic slap bass and deliciously dubbed out sax woven through a laconic beat for the ages — the consummate lysergic swirl of chill out with teeth. 'Itzehoe (World House Mix)' gets into a subheavy, spring-loaded new jack swing funk, like Jam & Lewis meeting Smith & Mighty downtown and stopping by the juice bar for a quick hit of freshness. 'Jazz 104 (Acid Mix)' turns the heat up on busy, bustling breaks and bass licks that positively spring forth from the mix with a clarity and purpose that speaks to the progression in Graef's craft over the past decade.

The Fall

50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong - 2025 Reissue

Greatest hits’ compilation, the first time a complete overview of The Fall’s career has been available on vinyl.

When the CD was originally released it was seen as the most complete and best overview of the bands recorded work and has yet to be bettered.

As with the other Fall re-issues it has been compiled by Daryl Easlea (who also wrote the notes) in conjunction with Fall expert Conway Patton and has been mastered by long time engineer Andy Pearce with art by Becky

The Fall were an English post-punk band, formed in Manchester in 1976. The band existed in some form until 2018, built around its founder and only constant member Mark E. Smith.

Initially associated with the punk movement of the late 1970s, the group's music went through several stylistic changes over the years, but was often characterised by an abrasive guitar-driven sound and frequent use of repetition, and was always underpinned by Smith's distinctive vocals and often cryptic lyrics. The band was noted for its prolific output: they released over 25 studio albums, and more than triple that counting live albums and other releases. They never achieved widespread public success beyond a handful of minor hit singles.

The band were long associated with BBC disc jockey John Peel, who championed them from early on in their career and cited The Fall as his favourite band, famously explaining, "They are always different; they are always the same."

The Fall

The Unutterable - 25 Anniversary Edition

The Unutterable was originally released in 2000 and was the band's 21st studio album.

This double vinyl re-issue is released to mark the 25th anniversary of an acclaimed Fall classic and accompanies an extended 4CD box set.

Formed in Manchester in 1976 and built around its founder and only constant member Mark E. Smith the band existed in some form or other (with numerous line-up changes) until Smith’s death in 2018. Naïm Amor & Kid Congo Powers

Tucson Safari

Naïm Amor and Kid Congo Powers met shortly before the pandemic in Tucson, Arizona. When the complete lockdowns hit everybody, Amor, like lots of other musicians, reclused himself in his studio and started experimenting with longtime ideas that were on the shelf. The initial idea was to combine rockabilly/garage-electric guitars with electronic drum machines and bass synthesizers, a vague intuition inspired by Link Wray’s guitar tones on one hand and the electronic rawness of the band Suicide on the other. After recording a couple tracks, Amor got the idea of inviting Kid Congo to collaborate in the making of some electric guitar “dialogs”. The tracks of Tucson Safari display the two different personalities and approaches of Amor and Kid Congo, both passionate electric guitar players, in the form of an exploration through composition and tone. The interwoven layers of guitars reveal the particular harmonic and melodic sense of Amor's sound “dancing” with the unmistakable slide and fuzzy tones of Kid Congo Powers.

You're No Big Deal - Grunge, The US Underground And Beyond 1984-1994

4CD SET EXPLORING GRUNGE AND THE AMERICAN ALTERNATIVE UNDERGROUND 1984-1994.

• COMPILED WITH MUDHONEY’S MARK ARM.

During the late 1980s, whilst pop, rap and glam metal dominated the American airwaves, underground musicians sought an antidote. During the middle of the decade, from Seattle in the west to New York in the east, bands immersed in a less highly polished, raw and more powerful sound began to emerge, fusing punky garage band attitude with meaningful, often disenchanted lyrics and lashings of distortion to create something new. The “grunge” tag quickly took hold, absorbing bands from all over the States and becoming a social phenomenon, drawing countless other underground and college circuit bands into its orbit in the process. Overnight, macho rock was dead.

Featuring an embarrassment of key bands and classic tracks, alongside lesser-known nuggets and a hand-picked selection of Australasian artists who were inadvertently feeding into the scene, ‘You’re No Big Deal’ explores a vital period in post-punk American musical history, the rebirth of rock music and its new place among the underground elite. With sleevenotes from Mudhoney’s Mark Arm, whose previous band Green River were the first to be given the “grunge” tag, this is an on-the-ground, broad reaching dive into a time and place that saw the unlikeliest of anti-rock stars recalibrate what American guitar-based music could be, reconnecting it with ordinary suburban kids and reigniting punk rock’s spirit.

Packed with over 80 tracks spanning a decade, and presented in roughly chronological order, ‘You’re No Big Deal’ tells a story that spread far beyond the ambitions of its key players.

The Prize

In The Red

The Prize made their debut for Anti Fade in 2022 with the EP 'Wrong Side Of Town' which prompted global interest in the band. They began recording the album in 2023 but the international tours caused delays, as did the departure of original bass player Jack Kong in early 2024. New bass player Ethan Stahl (formerly of UK band Chubby and the Gang) came on board a year ago after Kong helped the band finish the tracking process. Initial album sessions took place with Paul Maybury of Rocket Science at his A Secret Location studio, with subsequent tracks recorded with Matt Blach of the Murlocs at Gizz Studios (following The Prize’s European run with King Gizzard late in 2023) and, in January of this year, with Robin Mukerjee of TV Colours.

The band, which features drummer Nadine Muller sharing lead vocals with guitarist Carey Paterson together with guitarists Joseph Imfeld and Austin Haire as well as new bass player Stahl, is known for its powerful three-guitar frontline and melodic twin lead guitar. It combines punk and classic hard rock with power pop and new wave and cites its influences as Thin Lizzy, Cheap Trick, Pretenders, Blondie, Rolling Stones, Faces, Flamin’ Groovies, Tom Petty, Dwight Twilley, Phil Seymour, The Toms, The Nerves and The Motors.

Band members have recently started spreading themselves out into other bands as well, with Muller and Stahl joining Josh Hardy of The Chats and The Unknowns in Loose Lips, Imfeld in The States and Haire in The Judges and his own solo venture, Ozzie Hair.

Chastity Belt & 764-Hero

Loaded Painted Red

Chastity Belt's version of "Loaded Painted Red" doesn't just cover 764-Hero's original. It dissolves into it, rebuilding it with a gauzy, wide-open clarity. It's a song that's always carried a certain weight: bruised and echoing with late '90s Pacific Northwest melancholy. In their first-ever recorded cover, Chastity Belt traces that ache into new territory, drawing it out like bated breath.

Lydia Lund threads a new guitar line through the song, tugging it towards their distinct style like a slow orbit around the song's core feeling. "I've been a fan of 764-Hero for a while now, and 'Loaded Painted Red' is one of my faves!" says Julia Shapiro. "It was hard to do the song justice because the original is so perfect, but we also had fun reimagining it and making it our own."

Initially released in 1998 on 764-Hero's Get Here and Stay (Up Records), "Loaded Painted Red" has long been a fan-favorite, a softly jagged and charged meditation. The new split 7" pairs the cover with the original, a full-circle release that marks 764-Hero's catalog joining the Suicide Squeeze family. Together, the two versions collapse decades into a single foggy breath riding out the dusky golden-hour light of the Pacific Northwest.

Oog Bogo

Cowgirls

Los Angeles band Oog Bogo (featuring former Meatbodie Kevin Boog) have released an EP and an LP for Ty Segall’s God? label - now their second LP arrives via In The Red. “Cowgirls” goes off-road, so buckle up, because with songwriter Kevin Boog & engineer Eric Bauer behind the wheel of John Dwyer and Bauer’s studio “Discount Mirrors” - anything can happen. In March of 2024, John Hodge stomped the four-to-the-floor on drums and percussion, as Boog swung back and forth between mutated melodies and total auditory annihilation, vocally and instrumentally. Together, the two swerved hazardously through several roads of smoldering sonic debris… But where does this road lead now? Veering a sharp left turn off the course of Oog Bogo’s previous genres? Sure. A new, unmatched lineup consisting of Gabe Flores (on lead guitar/ backing vocals), Julian Betts (bass guitar) and Grant Snyder (drums)? Why we’re glad you asked! Yes. Accelerating forward, Oog Bogo’s Wipers reject the sorrows of darkened skies that hover over Los Angeles. Monolithic guitar tones grind like freight Trux, flanking you in stereoscopic bliss, as bass metronomically demands your movement alongside their pounding percussive speedometer. Oog Bogo’s harmonies of the lost highways weave you through LA, and siren to you an all-but-haunting message: that rock and roll is ALIVE… and now, with Oog Bogo’s second LP “Cowgirls” on In The Red Records, you’re in the front seat of their Chrome choir. Their momentum has only just begun. So don’t get the blues. Giddy-up.

Luke Haines And Peter Buck

Going Down To The River... To Blow My Mind

• The third in the 'psychiatric trilogy' of albums by Luke Haines (The Auteurs, The Servants, Black Box Recorder) and Peter Buck (R.E.M).

• Recorded in Portland Oregon, USA foot-down-to-thefloor- throttle-out style.

Expect to sail through churning psychedelic excursions that ask for clarity on questions like... Have you ever been cold called by someone claiming to represent the Pink Floyd research group? Have you been stranded on the moon with Papa John Philips? (and then realised you were out of drugs). Can you count your nervous breakdowns on the paws of more than two dozen cats? Does it feel like all you ever do is answer questions? Yes? No? Then take a trip down to the river...to blow your mind.

STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Buck and Haines return for another round of deeply psychedelic excursions that are absolutely full of humour, and so packed with stunning musicianship that they really can't put a foot wrong. Ace.

The Reds Pinks And Purples

The Past Is A Garden I Never Fed

Having penned over 200 songs in the last six years, The Reds, Pinks and Purples release a collection of tracks previously unreleased on physical format that continues to romanticise the wonders and woes of the world.

With song titles that read like chapter sub-heads for a post-Douglas Coupland novella, ‘The Past Is A Garden I Never Fed’ takes The Reds, Pinks and Purples central orator Glenn Donaldson through the turmoil of small talk and everyday water cooler moments with a fine sense of pathos and irony.

Set to a soundtrack that swerves between the dark days of Television Personalities and Byrdsian twang to the Jarvis Cocker-styled rhetoric and vocal tenderness of ‘Richard In the Age Of The Corporation’ with hints of everything from Husker Du’s fuzzed splendour to the chiming majesty of The Chameleons it’s an empowering listen.

The pathos and irony of the glorious track ‘The World Doesn’t Need Another Band’ sets out the band’s store, it’s a measured and quietly outspoken rant at lacklustre opposition peppered with a gorgeous guitar break. Meanwhile, ‘I Only Ever Wanted To See You Fail’ rumbles with an Eddie And The Hot Rods pre-punk riff before dissolving into a tale of self-doubt and remorse, bemoaning others’ good luck. ‘Toxic Friend’ is from the book of the TVP’s Daniel Treacey with an upbeat chorus that smacks of all that was good in old school indie in a hail of fuzzy logic and guitars.

From humble beginnings as a home recording project, The Reds, Pinks and Purples has blossomed into a sporadic live unit with tours on both sides of the Atlantic and appearances at Pitchfork Fest London and Woodsist Fest as well as support slots for indie legends such as Destroyer, Guided By Voices, and The Feelies.

STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: A lovely selection of pieces that haven't ever been available on a physical format from one of our favourite psychedelic jangle-pop outfits, and most prolific songwriters. It's always a hit and miss affair, the ol' B-sides compilation, but if anyone can sidestep that, it's the RP&P. A great, stylistically fluid collection.

Red Rack'em

Secret Banger

THIS YEARS BANGER IS HERE! After last years crossover smasher ‘Italo Disco Banger’, which picked up love from DJ Harvey, Gerd Janson and Fatboy Slim, Red Rack’em has been back in the lab, cooking up this years contribution to his ever growing, genre hopping series of ‘Bangers’. He’s hit discotheque paydirt once more with the euphoric tropical disco house burner vibes of ‘Secret Banger’. The feedback has been insane with early support from a wide range of tastemakers including Make A Dance, Nikki Nair, Luke Una, Boris Dlugosch and Gallegos, it’s a crossover, summer magic jam, perfect for those Adriatic or Balearic mornings. Secret Banger is an instant classic. Perfectly pitched for festival sunshine and late night heads down parties. It’s a ‘moment’ track, combining the biggest vocal hook this side of Daft Punk, ecstasy pads, tropical boogie strut and the trademark Rack’em club shaking sub bass. Secret Banger is a sureshot, guaranteed to give eyes closed moments to even the most frosty dancefloors. Monday is ostensibly ‘the deeper B Side cut’ but it’s also a certy club wrecker. Samples are being mad flipped people. A wacked out street soul snippet is sliced and diced before the track mutates into a huge pitched down late night jaw bothering incantation. The OG sample is hard cut into the track like a more clever than most DJ on the decks. You need this.

The Fall

Middle Class Revolt - 6CD Box Set Edition

• ‘Middle Class Revolt’ was originally released in 1994 and was the band 16th studio album.

• This edition contains singles, demos as well as a BBC session and three live shows from the era.

• This Set as with the other Fall reissues has been compiled in conjunction with Fall expert Conway Patton and has notes by Fall guru Daryl Easlea.

• Mastered by long time engineer Andy Pearce with art by Becky Stewart. The Fall are an English post-punk band, formed in Manchester in 1976. The band has existed in some form ever since, and is essentially built around its founder and only constant member Mark E. Smith. Initially associated with the punk movement of the late 1970s, the group's music has gone through several stylistic changes over the years, but is often characterised by an abrasive guitar-driven sound and frequent use of repetition, and is always underpinned by Smith's distinctive vocals and often cryptic lyrics.

The band is noted for its prolific output having released over 25 studio albums, and more than triple that counting live albums and other releases. They have never achieved widespread public success beyond a handful of minor hit singles in the late 1980s, but have maintained a strong cult following. The band were long-associated with BBC disc jockey John Peel, who championed them from early on in their career and cited The Fall as his favourite band, famously explaining, "They are always different; they are always the same."

Red Laser Records switches on the smoke machine and strobe light, dishes out the high grade poppers and continues with the most unprofessional approach in the biz as they celebrate their FIFTIETH fuckin' release - a double disc photon torpedo diving into the label's roster and featuring all new tracks from RL stalwarts across the ages.

Marking this half century milestone, their in-house graphics team have been on a strict diet of kryptonite and engine oil, conjuring up one of the most lavish (and budget destroying) gatefold sleeves to date; alongside personal insights (and an in-depth cigar review) on their 13 year journey from label heads Il Bosco and Pharaoh Brunson.

Eight, sizzling, white hot MANCTALO jams that'll have knickers dropped, shirts lifted, fists pumping and your room stinking of fried circuit boards quicker than you can say #inabiteveryoneelse.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: A huge milestone for local firm and manctalo originators Red Laser is celebrated in suitably fine form with eight brand new tracks from the roster's crack squad of machine molestors. Coupled with one of the most eye-catchingly glorious sleeves to date (don't forget the cigar review!); this is a proper collectors item from the celebrated Manchester label.

TRACK LISTING

A1 - Kid Machine - Neutron Star
A2 - Tommy Walker 3 - Fell Running
B1 - Starion - Nebula
B2 - Il Bosco - Nottio Botherdini
C1 - LeonxLeon - The Laser Gazer
C2 - Flemming Dallum - Solar Eclipse

Nu-Balearica meets deep space club disco, with not-so-subtle injections of first wave Windy City proto-house. Mirlaqi returns to the Star Creature realm. The follow up to his 2019 "Telescope Buyers Guide" release. Features a nu-Balearic remix from Star Creature labelmate A Vision Of Panorama along with an updated club mix on the flip.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Dedicating your track to Mars isn't something new, there's an entire sub-section of the UR catalogue doing such. Star Creature however shuns the spacey techno inflections for more plasma poolside revelry.

The Reducers

Things Go Wrong / We Are Normal

Exact replica reissue of the much sought-after £100+ garage band DIY/Punk 45 rarity from The Reducers. Sounds like a lo-fi version of other early DIY punk groups like TV Personalities, O-Levels and Desperate Bicycles.

Originally self-released in four different colour sleeve variants on Vibes Records in 1978 and now available to independent retailers on Soul Jazz Records in a very special one-off edition.

The Reducers were from Bury, Greater Manchester, in existence 1978-1980. They released two singles on the independent Vibes label, followed by one more single after briefly signing to EMI.

Electric Junk: Deutsche Rock, Psych And Kosmiche 1970-1978

Take a ticket, find yourself a comfortable seat and embark on a musical journey across the underground musical landscape of 1970s Germany…. As the sound of the 1960s drifted off into outer space, open-minded musicians across Germany - East and West - forged their own unique path into the 1970s and beyond, strangely free of the overtly commercial and conformist concerns of their neighbours around Europe. Why this generation from this particular nation might be beyond giving a ficken is a topic for someplace else, but for reasons of their own Tangerine Dream, Popol Vuh, Faust, Conrad Schnitzler and their contemporaries sought not to explore the pop charts but the boundaries of inner space and intellectual curiosity, veering with wild and free abandon from rock to jazz to lengthy progressive wig outs and formative electronica in the process. Many never returned, lost and adrift on a sea of dope smoke and Moog arpeggios, but ‘Electric Junk’ nevertheless charts and documents their journey for future generations.

Compiled and sequenced with your own journey into inner space in mind, we proudly present a remarkable snapshot of a movement like no other. Rebellious, politically charged, communal and lysergically informed, these artists took their non-macho, long-haired proto punk outlook around the world in its many forms, finding favour throughout Europe, Asia and the US. Critical acclaim and the occasional hit were their rewards, alongside inadvertently inventing and influencing uncountable niche genres, questionable fashion statements and must-hear bands.

Juanita & Juan

Jungle Cruise

Juanita and Juan is a dynamic musical duo formed by Alice Bag and Kid Congo Powers, two influential figures in the punk and alternative music scenes who first crossed paths in 1977 during the early days of the Hollywood punk movement. Their friendship, rooted in a shared passion for raw, boundary-pushing music, has led to a new creative partnership that transcends genres and defies labels, although the two refer to their sound as “Loud Lounge.”

Alice Bag, a founding member of the pioneering punk band the Bags, is known for her fierce stage presence and unapologetic, feminist approach to punk music. She has spent decades championing the voices of women in rock and advocating for social justice, both through her music and activism. Kid Congo Powers, an original member of The Gun Club and a key player in The Cramps, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, as well as his own band, Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds, brings his audacious blend of noisy, psych-infused rock with a touch of glam. His unique guitar playing and distinctive style have made him a beloved figure in underground music circles.

Together, Juanita and Juan blend their influences—Bag's fiery vocals and penchant for dark melody with Powers’ atmospheric, reverb-laden guitar tones—creating a musical landscape that is both nostalgic and fresh-sounding. Their collaboration captures the adventurous spirit of their punk roots while embracing new sonic territory.

The duo’s chemistry is undeniable, with their musical partnership serving as both a testament to their enduring friendship and the spirit of musical exploration that began for the pair in 1976, proving that punk is not just a genre, but a lasting, ever-evolving attitude.

Seefeel

Quique (Redux)

Seefeel's 'Quique' emerged in 1993 on the Too Pure label, blending elements of shoegaze, ambient, and electronic music into an innovative and genre-defying sound. The record’s complex textures, pulsating rhythms, and ethereal melodies create an immersive listening experience, with tracks like “Climactic Phase #3” and “Industrious” showcasing the band's pioneering approach. Mark Clifford's intricate production, combined with Sarah Peacock’s delicate vocals, crafts a dreamlike atmosphere. 'Quique' was a trailblazer for the fusion of organic and digital soundscapes.

We Play House Recordings label boss Red D is back on his Red Basics solo outlet with more lo fi rawness, this time taking cues from spoken word deep house legends like Blake Baxter and Mike Dunn. Opener ‘The J Principle’ pairs seductive lyrics by the enigmatic Max Erotic with pure electronic house funk to make any soul melt.

After this there’s no time to rest when ‘Raw Shit’ comes along with its wicked off-kilter groove spiced up with dirty lyrics and chord stabs to shake up those late night floors. On the flip side it’s all about Red D’s love for the 313 with a slamming oldskool Detroit techno track aptly called ‘Troisentrois Groove’.

Basics were rarely this fundamental.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Came for the Mike Dunn-esque, vocal jack trax "The J Principle" and "Raw Shit"; stayed for the slamming, Detroit-inspired techno blast that is "Troisentrois Groove". A happy time had throughout.

Charles Moothart

Chaotic Shimmer

'Chaotic Shimmer' is a collection of songs that vary in texture and genesis. The A side has a stronger sense of familiarity with the more rocking numbers, while the B side stretches out in more exploration. Some of the same electronic elements of 2024's 'Black Holes Don't Choke' can be found in songs like 'Music For The People' and 'Caught Waiting'. There is also a subtle nod to Minor Threat in the lyrics of 'Caught Waiting'. The track 'Path I'd Like to Follow' is dreamy and meditative - channeling JJ Cale or late sixties San Francisco fog. The opening track is a rocket ship waiting to escape the dull confines of this singular consciousness, and it creates a space for the title track to transcend at will. All of the songs were recorded by Charles Moothart at his studio in Los Angeles. He wrote, performed, recorded, and mixed everything heard on this album. Reserving the right to do as thou wilt is rock and roll 101. The world is chaos, and chaos is creativity. To accept and embrace this is to tap in to the 'Chaotic Shimmer' - a transcendent energy. Music is for the people.

Charles Moothart is a multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles. He plays guitar in bands like FUZZ and Primitive Ring, as well as drums in GØGGS and Moonhearts. He was the touring drummer for Ty Segall's Freedom Band, as well as the Ty Segall and White Fence collaborative tours. Moothart has also released solo work under his initials CFM.

Thee Oh Sees

Carrion Crawler - 2025 Repress

(While Dwyer still records songs on his own, Thee Oh Sees is now a five-piece featuring keyboardist / singer Brigid Dawson, guitarist Petey Dammit, drummer Mike Shoun and multi-instrumentalist / singer Lars Finberg.) That restlessness extends to everything from the towering, thirteen-minute title track of 2010’s Warm Slime LP to the mercurial moods of 2008’s The Master’s Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In. Now, Thee Oh Sees chase the home-brewed symphonies of Castlemania with the scrappy, high-wire hooks of Carrion Crawler / The Dream. This one’s meant to pummel and throb.” That it does, whether one blasts the slow, speaker-bruising build of “The Dream,” the sunburnt organs and dovetailing guitars of “Crack in Your Eye” or the interstellar instrumental “Chem-Farmer,” a perfect example of what happens when one takes a well-oiled machine—a gang of rabid road warriors, really—and adds a second, groove-locked drum set to the mix.

Mercury Rev

The Secret Migration - 2025 Reissue

Originally issued in January 2005, ‘The Secret Migration’ was the sixth album by Mercury Rev.

In the UK, where the band were signed to V2, the album spawned two singles, ‘In A Funny Way’ and ‘Across Yer Ocean’.

Back in 2020, Cherry Red unveiled a deluxe 5CD edition of this sometimes overlooked album, compiled and co-ordinated in conjunction with Mercury Rev’s twin lynchpins, Jonathan Donaghue and Sean ‘Grasshopper’ Mackowiak.

Four years on, ‘The Secret Migration’ is treated to its first-ever reissue on vinyl – and with the added bonus of a second disc. Joining the original album are various B-sides and originally unissued out-takes.

Among the bonus are cover versions of Bobby Charles’ Bearsville gem ‘Tennessee Blues’; ‘Afraid’, originally by Chicago rock band Dovetail Joint; two Paul Westerberg songs, The Replacements’ ‘Androgynous’ and his solo effort ‘Good Day’; Daniel Johnston’s ‘Blue Clouds’; and ‘I Never Had It So Good’ by Paul Williams.

Formed in Buffalo, New York, in 1989, MERCURY REV quick grew to become leading figures in left field alternative rock. Earlier albums veered towards experimental, off-kilter psychedelia but by the end of the decade, the band had developed their own brand of serene, piano-based Americana with the acclaimed, best-selling LP ‘Deserter’s Songs’ (1998).

Mercury Rev are currently active with forthcoming shows over the coming months around a brand new studio album.

C92

THE LATEST IN THE HUGELY SUCCESSFUL ‘C’ SERIES, RIFFING ON THE ORIGINAL ‘C86’ CASSETTE.

EXPLORING THE POST-BAGGY, PRE-BRITPOP INDIE SCENE OF 1992.

PACKED WITH WELL-KNOWN FAVOURITES – Radiohead, The Charlatans, Ride, Lush, Inspiral Carpets, Dodgy, Boo Radleys, The Auteurs, The Stairs, Levitation, Sultans Of Ping F.C. among them.

1992 saw the British indie scene unwittingly poised to go overground and global in the wake of the guitar’s revival in the early 1990s. ‘C92’ captures something of a no-man’s land moment in time, with the “baggy” scene brushed aside by American grunge and the artists who’d come to define the rest of the decade only beginning to emerge.

From the intensity of shoegaze pioneers Ride and Lush, through to melody-driven 60s revivalists Inspiral Carpets and The Stairs, in hindsight the year can be seen as a period of healthy transition and expansion which ultimately saw the scene pulled together by the music media under the umbrella term “Britpop”. Established names such as The Charlatans and Boo Radleys glided effortlessly over the landscape re-alignment, whilst soon-to-be household names like Radiohead and The Cranberries took their first tentative steps into a bigger world, enjoying the license to pursue their artistic persuasions with the luxury of major label financial backing. A sea change was clearly coming.

Essential for collectors of the ‘C’ series, fans of that time and place and anybody interested in the ongoing, mazy story of British pop music, ‘C92’ brings with it familiar favourites and previously unknown gems, to sit alongside other titles in the series.

Albert Karch & Gareth Quinn Redmond

Warszawa

WRWTFWW Records is happy to announce a new collaborative album between Polish producer, multi-instrumentalist and sound engineer Albert Karch (notably known for his superb 2019 album Celestially Light featuring Ichiko Aoba) and Irish ambient master and label’s favorite Gareth Quinn Redmond (Ar Ais Arís, Laistigh Den Ghleo, Umcheol albums from the WR catalogue). The 6-track LP comes as a limited edition of 300 copies worldwide with an artwork by Dublin artist Barry Gibbons and liner notes. It is available in digital format as well.

Recorded in at Albert Karch’s studio in Warsaw in January 2023, Warszawa is conceptually rooted in the reason the two artists met in the first place: the work of Japanese composer Satoshi Ashikawa (Still Way - Wave Notation 2) who sought to compose a time that was stationary. Sparse in approach but sharp with intention, the 6 pieces of the collaborative album were sculpted with precise and floating use of piano, drums, synthesizers, and strings. The result is gentle but emotionally deep minimalistic ambient, reassuring environmental music with an indescribable Mark Hollis touch, also an artist whose worked influenced the recording sessions.

Gareth Quinn Redmond’s previous albums, Laistigh Den Ghleo, another ode to the work of Satoshi Ashikawa, Umcheol, mixing ambient with traditional Irish music instruments, and his tape loops wonder Ar Ais Arís are still available on WRWTFWW Records - complete the collection now!

Warszawa by Albert Karch and Gareth Quinn Redmond is dedicated to the memory of Satoshi Ashikawa.

- For fans of ambient, minimalism, environmental, Satoshi Ashikawa, Mark Hollis, Erik Satie, Midori Takada, piano, synth, quiet Winter nights in a warm place, with a friend, or two.

- Limited edition (300 only!) vinyl of Albert Karch and Gareth Quinn Redmond’s ambient collaborative effort dedicated to the memory of Satoshi Ashikawa, with an artwork by Barry Gibbons.

Hot on the heels of Sukuma, Durban's Sugarman Sandy B returns to Red Motorbike with Bink Party!

This time around, he's teamed up with label boss Eddie C on production, as well as an assortment of underground artists from around the globe whom he has collaborated with during his WorldKwaitour, which he combined with the 30th anniversary of his successful underground independent debut, AmaJoviJovi.
Bink, the genre Sandy B coined, is a modern take on Kwaito's loose rhythms and the mid-tempo funk we've come to know and love from the Red Motorbike stables.

Sgt Papers

FUGA!

Sgt Papers are a punk rock duo of brothers Ivan and Felipe Garcia from Hermosillo, Sonora, in the heart of the desert in Mexico.

They started in 2017 releasing their first album “Sgt. Papers Lonely Psych Punk Band” independently, creating a buzz in the local independent rock scene and the independent scene in the US. They began touring the US playing both clubs and festivals.

They followed this with two more albums in 2019 and 2021 while the same time helping grow the rock scene in Hermosillo. Their following grew along with the band. Their approach to recording and touring has been very DIY.

The band’s sound is a combination of psych, garage, punk all played with plenty of distortion.

The Residents Present BUY OR DIE! RALPH RECORDS 1972-1982

Ahead of the curve as ever, in 1972 The Residents turned their back on the mainstream music industry and established their own Ralph Records imprint, taking control of every aspect of the recording, design and manufacturing process of their records. Over the next decade, Ralph would release numerous seminal singles and albums by a diverse range of artists from both the US and Europe, capturing the zeitgeist perfectly in the era of punk and new wave, when the DIY aesthetic went overground.

Featuring key singles, vital album tracks and a number of recordings appearing on CD for the first time, as well as previously unheard material from Schwump, Snakefinger, MX-80 Sound and Gary Panter, ‘Buy Or Die!’ is not only an insight into The Residents’ world but also into the workings of their DIY mindset, with most of the tracks here being recorded in the group’s own studio, and released in artwork produced by their own graphics department. From established names such as Yello and The Residents themselves, to lesser-known gems by Fred Frith, Tuxedomoon et al, this is a distinctive snapshot of that experimental and open-minded time and place, as seen through the lense of one of America’s most adventurous artists.

Complete with a 7,500 word first hand account essay from The Residents’ Mysterious Archivist, plenty of unusual and rare imagery and many tracks sourced directly from the Ralph tape archive, all overseen by The Residents (enabled by RA), ‘Buy Or Die!’ will entertain, enthral and infuriate in equal measure.

Dance Of The Red Herrings

Debut solo record from Manchester based writer Nathan McIlroy, formerly of Frazer King.

The record is produced by Jim Noir and his sonic fingerprints sculpt the raw materials into a weird pop opus. Noir is also releasing the record on his Dook Recordings label and played drums and vocals on several tracks.

Recorded by McIlroy’s long-time friend and musical associate, Big A, the songs are laden with cracked harmonies and homemade instruments, including found materials used as percussion. The pair drew on the talents of fellow travellers for backing vocals and rhythm tracks which has resulted in the live outfit expanding to a three piece, with Ben Price (bass) and Charlie Garson (drums) on board.

Commenting on the writing process McIlroy explains:
“It was written during a period of madness and adverse offending behaviours. The songs dash from one theme to another and reflect the mistaken beliefs we cling to when our perceived realities are threatened. It’s also got jokes.”

Opposing a streaming culture that values top tracks and playlists, the record is intended to be heard in one sitting, with Side A showcasing more extroverted songs, in all their loudmouth braggadocio, and Side B being more introspective and honest.

Please, No More Edits From The Manctalo Disco!

Before we pack away the poppers for another year, let Red Laser take you for one last spin on the waltzers. Tried and tested at our recent road block parties in Manchester, these edits shine a light on four primo-grade Italo face melters. Fervently excavated by Bosco over countless visits to Bel Paese and streamlined for the hydrofoil, with some extra added calories for the club.

Opener 'Destiny' tweaks and shudders under analogue arpeggios, dazzling Strat chops and cosmic bass interplay before dropping into a simply glorious female vocal that, thankfully, gets plenty of airtime before Bosco calls close. A track so close to perfection we had to make it longer. 'Flavio', up next - and half sung in Italian so we only know a bit of what she's on about - is another supreme slice of Italo disco from the upper echelons that Bosco snaffled between glugs of Barolo and a face full of worm cheese. Sure to instigate group hugs, 4AM declarations of love, tears of happiness and huge pelvic thrusts dependant on environment and inebriation.

The tingles continue on side B with another supernova burning bright across the stars. 'Newsin' introduces itself with a joyous marriage of marimba and synth before yet another vocal proves Italians really do, do it better when it comes to writing some of the catchiest hooks and choruses in the universe.
'Lace', featuring the record's only male vocal appearance, has a romantic, proto-goth-new-wave vibe; like if Robert Smith and Richard Butler had a chem-sex love child after a wild night in Baia Degli Angeli.

Not sure who the woman in lace is, but we'd defo like to see her down The White Hotel one night...

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Red Laser complete what may well be their most prolific year to date with a clutch of edits straight from Il Bosco's studio. Source material gathered through countless trips to Italy before being trimmed and polished for our discerning Mancunian ears. Worth the entrance fee for that "Destiny" cut alone... Bellisimo!

Buffalo Tom

Big Red Letter Day - 2024 Reissue

Buffalo Tom (Bill Janovitz, Chris Colbourn and Tom Maginnis) formed at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1984 - a breeding ground of post punk guitar bands like Dinosaur Jr. and Pixies. The three longstanding bandmates recognize the achievement of their longevity as a creative unit. Initially offering a raw, propulsive sound that emphasized Janovitz’s imposing guitar squall, Buffalo Tom’s early approach gave way to a more melodic, yet no less distinctive, style. They have released ten studio albums and their most recent, 'Jump Rope', was released earlier this year.

Released in 1993, 'Big Red Letter Day' found the band doing what they do very well indeed, but with more body and gloss to the production. The album was recorded in LA by The Robb Brothers and features numerous favourites, in particular: 'Sodajerk', 'I’m Allowed', 'Treehouse' and the classic 'Late At Night'.

TRACK LISTING

1. Sodajerk
2. I’m Allowed
3. Tree House
4. Would Not Be Denied
5. Latest Monkey
6. My Responsibility
7. Dry Land
8. Torch Singer
9. Late At Night
10. Suppose
11. Anything That Way

Red Laser continue their prolific purple patch, unpacking four more slabs of red lit Manctolo from a host of box jammers, old and new.

Frank Butters wastes no time at all, 'The Call Of The Wild' engaging photon tubes with a highly kinetic array of crystalline synth shards, thunderous bass and hyperactive sfx. Without geeking out too much, special mention has to go out to the synthesis on display here - Butters advancing up the levels of sonic shamanism as he conjures up never-before-heard patches of interstellar cosmic NRG...

Bob Swans' 'Bodyform4U' unites the robots with a universal message of togetherness. Its multiple layers of shuddering arpeggios and star-aligned synths working in unison to quell any fears and send us off into a space age utopia. One that'll work as well soundtracking the end of the session as it will as the dancefloor's filling up; its subtle anthemic qualities sure to rouse the spirits of even the most dehumanized cyborgs.

New signing Lone Saxon drops 'Hypersleep' which utilises rich piano chords and a hefty breakbeat, switching up the vibe but keeping things super uplifting. This one reminds us of that innocent period when you could get on the megabus for 50p and score three for a tenner on the dancefloor. An evocative vocal refrain adds a moment of thoughtful introspection in between the e-rushes and arm-raising for another moment of interactive harmony.

Finally, 'Webo' sees Franz Scala (with a little help from Il Bosco) return to source, delivering a bona fide slice of maximum balls out MANCTALO chug. With tension-wrought chord progressions, delicious layers of lead melodies and a soaring vocal, there's few that can resist the charms of this late night electro-disco hyper anthem.

All aboard the starship !

Roger Waters

The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux - 2024 Repress

Waters says ‘when we recorded the stripped down songs for the Lockdown Sessions, the 50th anniversary of the release of The Dark Side Of The Moon was looming on the horizon. It occurred to to me that The Dark Side Of The Moon could well be a suitable candidate for a similar re-working, partly as a tribute to the original work, but also to re-address the political and emotional message of the whole album. I discussed it with Gus and Sean, and when we’d stopped giggling and shouting ‘You must be ****ing mad’ at one another we decided to take it on. It’s turned out really great and I’m excited for everyone to hear it. It’s not a replacement for the original which, obviously, is irreplaceable. But it is a way for the seventy nine year old man to look back across the intervening fifty years into the eyes of the twenty nine year old and say, to quote a poem of mine about my Father, “We did our best, we kept his trust, our Dad would have been proud of us”. And also it is a way for me to honor a recording that Nick and Rick and Dave and I have every right to be very proud of.’

As founding member, lyricist, and principal composer of Pink Floyd during the band’s most influential and creative period, Roger Waters has achieved global success and global renown.

Waters co-founded Pink Floyd in the mid-1960s. Under Waters’ guidance, Pink Floyd made a series of best-selling albums during the 1970s, of which the most successful and iconic were The Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall. Roger Waters left Pink Floyd in 1985 and is now one of the most successful solo artists in the world.

Tracey Thorn

A Distant Shore - 2024 Reissue

‘A Distant Shore’ is a much loved indie classic.

Freshly mastered at Abbey Road Studios with new sleeve-notes penned by Tracey, this 2024 edition is available on both vinyl and CD, a beautifully presented reminder of the album’s elemental beauty.

Released to critical acclaim on Cherry Red back in September 1982, Tracey's debut solo album is full of engaging, melodic tunes and heartfelt lyrics delivered with her distinctive warm vocals.

Recorded for just £138 in a studio in a garden shed when she was a 19-year-old first-year student at Hull University, it is an astonishing demonstration of Tracey's songwriting talent, stripped down to vocal and semi-acoustic guitar.

The LP was released during a fertile period in her early career, when she was also playing with the group The Marine Girls and just about to embark on a life-long musical and personal partnership with Ben Watt in Everything But The Girl. Its stark minimalism made it stand out from the crowd, and the album remained on the Independent chart for many months. To this day, ‘A Distant Shore’ remains one of our proudest achievements here at Cherry Red Records.

Fully supported by the artist, 'A Distant Shore' is now being represented with the addition of five hitherto unheard demo recordings, hand-picked by Tracey from her archive of cassettes. ‘Lucky Day’ was recorded during the same session as the album but somehow never made the grade; the other four tracks here were recorded during a later session but then set aside, to be re-recorded a while later with EBTG for their first album, Eden. Freshly mastered at Abbey Road Studios with new sleeve-notes written by Tracey, this 2024 edition is available on both vinyl and CD, a beautifully presented reminder of the album’s elemental beauty.

Hawkwind

Space Ritual - 2024 Reissue

Recorded on the band’s UK Tour of December 1972, which followed the release of the band’s recent studio album ‘DOREMI FASOL LATIDO’. The live show was a continuous performance linked by poetry recitation by Robert Calvert and was a complete audio-visual experience. Featuring the dancers Stacia, Miss Renee and Tony Carrera, the concerts also featured an elaborate light show by famed lighting designer Liquid Len. The Space Ritual tour followed the huge success of the Silver Machine single (although the song did not feature in the live set) and three concerts were captured on tape by the Pye Records mobile unit.

The resulting double album was adorned with memorable artwork and was a Top Ten hit in the UK upon its release in May 1973. This 50th anniversary 2LP black vinyl repress was cut at Abbey Road studios utilising the original master tapes.

The Fall

The Infotainment Scan - 6CD Box Set

‘The Infotainment Scan’ was originally released in 1993 and was the band 15th studio album reaching no 9 on the album chart.

This set contains singles and demos as well as BBC sessions and three live shows from the era.

Compiled in conjunction with Fall expert Conway Patton and has notes by Fall guru Daryl Easlea and have been mastered by long time engineer Andy Pearce with art by Becky Stewart.

The band is noted for its prolific output: and have released over 25 studio albums, and more than triple that counting live albums and other releases.
