Les Baxter Featuring Bas Sheva

The Passions - 2026 Reissue

Les Baxter's 'The Passions' featuring Bas Sheva is an experimental, avant-garde, exotica masterpiece with Bas Sheva’s dramatic vocals, ranging from moans, grunts, and shrieks to melodic singing, portraying intense emotions like 'Despair' and 'Lust' - paired with Baxter's complex, orchestral, and percussive arrangements. Dark, intense, and highly theatrical, it is often described as a cross between a 1950s film score and avant-garde music. Bas Sheva's voice is like another instrument, wordless, anguished, or ecstatic shrieks abound... and blend well with Baxter's usual adventurous scoring.

The album is renowned for its intense emotional themes and avant-garde approach to the Exotica and Space-Age Jazz genres. Often described as a cross between a 1950s film score and avant-garde music, 'The Passions' stood out for both its edginess and its theatricality.

Poppy Ackroyd

Liminal

Acclaimed composer and pianist Poppy Ackroyd returns with ‘Liminal’. Written and recorded during a period of profound upheaval and transition, it marks a return to the core of Ackroyd’s practice, bringing piano and violin back together.

For the first time since 2019’s ‘Feathers’, Ackroyd reunites these two instruments exclusively, with every sound on the album drawn from piano and violin alone. Melody, harmony, rhythm and texture are all extracted from the physical bodies of the instruments themselves, from bowed and plucked strings to percussive elements. Working within these limitations remains central to her creative process.

STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: I've always been a big fan of Poppy Ackroyd's work, since her spellbinding debut LP for Denovali all the way back in 2012. Though there are obvious echoes of that work here (her distinctive but indescribable rhythm, here pointedly the same as on that debut), 'Liminal' shows an incredible artistic development, and results in one of my favourite modern classical records for a while.

Poppy

Empty Hands

Metal and avant-pop artist Poppy returns with 13 bold new tracks on her seventh full-length, 'Empty Hands'. Produced by Jordan Fish (Bring Me the Horizon), Poppy follows up her previous album, 'Negative Spaces', with a daring set of songs that blurs the lines between heavy and hypnotic, cementing her status as a rising visionary within the rock genre.

STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: New poppy eh? If you know what to expect, then it's much of the same crisp, precise anthemic (and heavy af) downtuned metalcore business with Poppy's (Mary Rose Pereira) athletic melodies and gruff snarls draped atop. It's a brilliant mix, and a real treat for the modern metal fans.

Here Comes - 2025 Reissue

Oh My God, Oh My God! This is such a Rare and Beautiful LP. They got her in to make Volume One and never made it to Volume Two (almost a Kim Fowley marketing move). Issued on a micro label in 1955, this wonderfully produced smokey vocal meets hip jazz trio session is quite outstanding. Totally unknown, utterly sublime in parts, don't even try and find an original copy, it will take you at least 20 years and a Japanese man will outbid you just when you think it's yours...so buy it!!

Poppy

Following a two year hiatus, ‘Poppy’ was created alongside Mike Malchicoff (Kanye West/King Princess) with contributions from the likes of producers Maestro (Rihanna), Fred Ball (Alicia Keys/Raye/Mariah Carey), Grades, (Kali Uchis, Dua Lipa, Britney Spears), and Travis Sayles (Ariana Grande).

Poppy says: “I can’t believe I’m writing this, but my sophomore album is finally coming out! After numerous trips back and forth from London to LA, millions of revisions to perfect each song and a lot of moving the track listing around, I’ve made an album I’m so in love with, with people who I felt truly seen by, who I respected and found a natural synergy with. I really put everything into this album, it is a reflection of my growth over the last 2 years, an outward pouring of my raw vulnerability, the inner workings of my chaotic brain and the deep desire I have to challenge myself with everything I do. I’m really proud of what we made, and I hope that when you hear it, it means something to you too.
Thank so much to all the special people who contributed to the making of this project, the producers, engineers, musicians, visual creatives, the friends who listened to me while I processed my life in order to write it down, I wouldn’t have been able to manifest this dream without you.”

STAFF COMMENTS

Joe Meek

I Hear A New World - 2023 Reissue

A classic of incredibly strange music, electronica, pre Beatles Britpop, or all of the above... however you slice it, I Hear A New World was and is the masterpiece of that left field master of sound, Joe Meek...recorded as usual partly at home with secret equipment, and partly at the state of the art Lansdowne studio he pretty much designed, it is a full on spectacular action stereo extravaganza, almost unknown in British pop recordings of the time and for many years later....here beautifully remastered, and restored to it's original track sequence as planned and advertised by Meek when he marketed it as an ideal stereo test recording for hi toned hifi shops....only an ep of less than half the assembled work was originally released....now here it is, on VINYL as it was meant to be heard....

The story of Joe Meek, the master of RGM sound, is well known to all devotees of music… the innovation, the hits, the eventual sad ending…this album, with its early super stereo electronic sounds, which comes from the hopeful early days of his career has become a legend..In its September 1998 issue, music magazine The Wire listed the album in the article ''100 Records That Set The World On Fire (When No One Was Listening!)'', exploring both Meek's and the album's profound though almost secret influence on many modern music makers…this first real vinyl edition of the complete album in its original track order, is a must for all lovers of the unusual in music…

The Power In Us

Poppy Ajudha epitomises the uniquely diverse musical culture that exists in London. Her South London, St. Lucian-British background, the scene she has grown up in, and the musicians and creatives she regularly works with have all been pivotal in the forward thinking, socio-politically aware unique blend of R&B, Soul and Pop that she creates. Unafraid to stand up for what she believes in, her lyrics speak of the feminism, colonialism, gender politics, current social issues and more.

Speaking on her upcoming debut album, Poppy says:
“This album is made up of all the things swimming in my mind, from women’s rights, to the right to cross borders, to the power of young people to inspire and be unafraid to rock the boat in the name of progress. Women don’t have to be just what they are taught to be, there is so much more to us than Mothers, Sisters, Daughters, Girlfriends and our relation to men. I want men to engage more heavily in feminism and really see how their defiance against it only holds both women and men back. There are so many boxes we put ourselves in; I want us all to break out of them. We are in an era of so much information and I feel the weight that young people take on because we are the generation bombarded with global politics and a million causes that need fighting for. This calls for better understanding around mental health and a society that nurtures us rather than demands of us everything we have until all that is left is our Demons. Every song on this album touches on these issues because they are all I think about everyday, all I see around me in my friends and my family. I hope it flips a switch in your mind, like it did for mine.”

The album features a host of stellar production including Joel Compass (Jorja Smith, Snoh Allegrah, FKA Twigs, Mabel), Karma Kid (Dua Lipa, Octavian, Arlo Parks, Shy Girl), Wyn Bennett (Janelle Monet, Goldlink, Haim), Itai Shapira (Grammy nominated, Baby Rose, Rhye, Kadjha Bonet), Wesley Singerman (Anderson Paak, Kendrick Lamar, Pink Sweat$)

Piatcions

Senseless>Sense

Piatcions debut album “Senseless>Sense” combines the soundscaped inertia of Spiritualized with the set-back and hushed vocal indifference of Brian Jonestown Massacre frontman Anton Newcombe. Gossamer sounds build to Kraut riffs, dazzling and epic.

“A luscious, dense sound, artfully constructed and beautifully arranged” Subba Cultcha

PoppyDisc proudly presents the debut album by St. Deluxe...a revolutionary source of pure pop noise straight out of Glasgow...currently touring and playing shows with the likes of Sonic Boom, St.Deluxe are set to become Glasgow's next great pop gift to the world! Some quotes: Vic Galloway, Radio 1/Radio Scotland 'Ensconced in the wonderful 'Riverside Studios' beloved of Teenage Fanclub and others, St. Deluxe join that great lineage of Glasgow indie-rock. Their sound is reminscent of Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine and the aformentioned Glasgow bands, with near-whispered vocals, fuzzed-out guitars and a stoned haze of production culminating in a very, sweet whole! I look forward to their debut LP on the new Poppydisc label, run by Creation records honcho Joe Foster... makes sense doesn't it?!' Duglas T. Stewart (BMX Bandits/PoppyDisc) 'The boys from St Deluxe are my Bandits and Francis Macdonald's Bad Boys. With the Bandits they play soft and melodic but they can also play a very different type of sounding music. St Deluxe music is loud, unapologetic and very alive. Prepare for a tasty portion of pure energy and adrenalin'.
