Vee VV

Crackerjack

In 2017 the last thing on the minds of Vee VV was becoming their own tribute band. After their initial comeback gigs, the decision to integrate new technologies and make a decisive reset was pursued and, in 2020, resulted in the release of 12” single, ‘Ugly Freedom TOKA Remix’(PAY6)
The track not only spanned the post-punk-tech-house divide, but it was a statement of intent, the coming together of like minds exploring the breadth of possibilities.

Vee VV had never been satisfied with going through the motions but increasingly focussed on gradually replacing their old set. Before any more collaborations (although the unmistakeable trumpet of ex-Hulmite Kevin Davy, can be heard on ‘Feel the Squeeze’) there was a need to nail down their own style over the length of a bona fide album. That album, their debut album, is ‘Crackerjack!’

The result is a raucous mix of rolling basslines and deeply worked grooves that slowly morph into grand, psychedelic walls of sound, perfectly setting the backdrop for the snarling, emotive vocal and resulting in an album thats both brilliantly deep and festooned with hooks.

    All Your Money

This lovely lathe cut 7" sees Blackpool four-piece Vee VV present a blazing mix of post-punk grit, funk percussion and baggy guitar melodies into the hugely danceable and instantly rousing title track. ALSO, have you ever finished listening to a rousing punk record and thought 'Man, that's really just made me want to throw convention out the window and eat the sleeve'? If so, then Vee VV have your back because not only have they made this cathartic anthem in a normal 'probably-shouldn't' eat it sleeve but they've done it in a plant-based edible sleeve too, so even you most timid of sleeve-scranners can get involved, and get involved you should. Lovely stuff.

VeeVV are back! The band born out of the ashes of Tunnelvision and cult Factory signing reformed in 2018 and dropped a fully loaded CD of unreleased track alongside some well known favourites.

Riding the momentum into 2020, we have a brand new double A side 12" from the group who've also joined forces with Toka to provide the indie-dance smashers, "Ugly Freedom" and "Sure Is Ugly".

Both tracks ride galloping nu-Italo synthlines with crisp 4/4 drums that will excite fans of electronic indie-dance no end. Think LCD, ACR, Leftfield and The Chemical Brothers and you're halfway there; but these two tracks are undeniable forward gazing, covered in a soundsystem tweakin' patina, charged, and ready to make people dance! Amassing tons of support, with John Robb, Dave Haslam and Tom Ravenscroft all singing their praises, it's possible that a second wave of adoration and spectacle await this most storied Manchester outfit.
