Hemi Hemingway

The Lonely Hunter EP

The Lonely Hunter EP is the debut EP from Hemi Hemingway - the project of London based New Zealander Shaun Blackwell as well as the latest single from Stockholm, Sweden indie label PNKSLM Recordings (Yung, ShitKid, Les Big Byrd etc).

After tip-toeing around the idea of a solo project like this one for a while, last year he finally set to recording a glittering ode to sixties pop, taking his cues from both classic and contemporary influences.

Embracing the timeless lovesickness of The Ronettes, The Shirelles and The Shangri-Las - subtly subverting it to focus on modern relationships, masculinity, and his own roots as a New Zealander - while contemporary acts like Sheer Mag, Angel Olsen, Aldous Harding and Shannon and the Clams provided inspiration as he penned his lyrics.

    299

    The 299 Game

299 is the solo recording project of Welsh multi-instrumentalist and producer Gavin Fitzjohn (who has worked with the likes of Manic Street Preachers, Gruff Rhys, James Dean Bradfield, Paolo Nutini and more), with 299 coming to life a few years ago while Fitzjohn was making his way across the US. Intoxicating, dangerous in its allure, there are flecks of ‘60s vocal groups and Tom Waits-style melancholia tied up in Fitzjohn’s deliberate American drawl.

      Sindy

      Horror Head

The album is a technicolor realisation of Serner’s vision; it filters his influences through a dream pop lens, recasting a decade’s worth of indie rock in the
mould of Cocteau Twins, while taking influence from the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Sebadoh and Daniel Johnston. At the centre of it all are Serner’s breathy vocals - think an off-kilter Elliott Smith, delivering what Serner himself describes as ‘seriously deranged fourchord songs’.
