Love Magic Power Danger Bliss : Yoko Ono And The Avant-Garde Diaspora

Art is my life and my life is art . . .

The story of the twentieth-century avant-garde is a story of resistance, of the outsider, of strangeness, of individual freedom, of rejecting the ordinary and overcoming marginalisation through self-invention. It is also a story that can be told through the prism of one of its most renowned figureheads: Yoko Ono. From her early life escaping aristocratic Japanese society and the horrors of World War II to adventurous and productive exile in New York, Ono's work built upon the histories of Dada, surrealism, Zen Buddhism, and experimental music.

A significant influence on the elusive Fluxus artistic network, she was connected to all its major personalities. Pursuing dreams of revolutionary liberation and aiming to recreate shattered post-war reality through performance, art and text, she established a legacy - despite her tumultuous personal life - as one of the most visionary artists and activists of her generation. Marking the intersection of biography, cultural history and artistic meditation, Love Magic Power Danger Bliss explores the deep history and vitality of the 20th century avant-garde movement and the inspiring, provocative figure who became its most celebrated, most misunderstood icon.

    Magnolia Electric Co.

Hard To Love A Man - 20th Anniversary Edition

Celebrating twenty years since its release, Magnolia Electric Co.’s 'Hard to Love A Man' has been expanded and available for the first time on vinyl. This anniversary release of the band’s first EP includes three additional tracks: remastered demos of '31 Seasons in the Minor Leagues', previously titled as 'Tonight I’m So Down', and 'Lonesome Valley', recorded at Echo Park Studios in Indiana during the 'Hard to Love a Man' sessions, as well as 'One Thin Dime', recorded during the Black Ram sessions at Sound of Music Recording Studios in Richmond, Virginia.

‘Working class rock’ is a phrase used frequently to describe The Magnolia Electric Co. Categorically, the band has secured their place amongst like-minded icons such as Bob Seger, CCR, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen, but it's not merely an aesthetic description. Magnolia backs it up with their work ethic. Amazingly, The Magnolia Electric Co. will have been on the road eight months by the end of 2005. This fact is most apparent to the band members themselves having been away from their homes and their loved ones for such extended periods of time. Hence the significance of the title track.

When Jason Molina assumes the perspective of the one he left behind on 'Hard To Love A Man' and sings: “It was hard to love a man like you / Goodbye was half the words you knew / While you were waiting for me not to call / I sent my love,” the loneliness and guilt of separation is painfully obvious. The wounded feminine voice of Jennie Benford, coupled with Jason Groth's sweeping guitar and Mike Kapinus' mournful organ dramatically reiterate this sentiment. Mark Rice and Pete Schreiner deliver their signature tight and tasteful rhythm and Nicole Evans adds a new and dynamic voice. While 'Hard To Love A Man' and live set favorite, 'Werewolves Of London' were recorded with Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio Studios, the rest of the tracks were recorded during a brief five day visit home in Indiana at Echo Park Studios with Paul Mahern, whose engineering resume includes The Blake Babies, Lisa Germano and John Mellencamp. As we watch Magnolia grow, Jason Molina doesn't have to coach us through another one, letting the inmates run the asylum. The Magnolia Electric Co. cast no doubt by putting their business in the street.”

        Care

Love Crowns And Crucifies (Paul Simpson Sleeve)

“The blueprint was simple: Hot Chocolate rhythms, George Murray bass lines, classical music instruments with pop sensibilities. We, the architects, however, were complicated.” Paul Simpson, 2025.

Needle Mythology, the label founded by music writer, author and broadcaster Pete Paphides, is thrilled to announce the release of the much-mythologised ‘lost’ album by CARE – the group made up of IAN BROUDIE and PAUL SIMPSON Prior to forming Care, Ian and Paul had been very active in the Liverpool post-punk scene. Ian played alongside Holly Johnson, Jayne Casey, Budgie and Bill Drummond in Big In Japan, before joining the Original Mirrors. He also produced several early records by Echo and the Bunnymen, most notably the albums 'Crocodiles' and 'Porcupine'. Paul had played with school friend and future Bunnyman Will Sergeant in Industrial Domestic and the founding line-up of The Teardrop Explodes, before going on to form The Wild Swans.

CARE were brought together late in 1982 by mutual friend Will Sergeant, when Paul was looking for someone to play a guitar part for a new song he had written. Ian obliged and asked him to return the favour by singing on one of his songs 'Tall Ships'. When Bunnymen manager Bill Drummond heard the result, now retitled 'My Boyish Days (Drink To Me)', he secured the pair a deal with Arista on the back of it. Care would go on to release three acclaimed singles over the course of a twelve-month period between 1983 and 1984 – 'My Boyish Days (Drink To Me)', 'Flaming Sword' and 'Whatever Possessed You' – before Simpson, still struggling to come to terms with the break up of his previous band decided not to continue. Although top 40 success eluded Care in the UK, the group quickly found an adoring fanbase in the Philippines, where all three singles became huge hits.

'Love Crowns and Crucifies' marks the first vinyl release of the previously unheard songs gathered together on 1997’s 'Diamonds and Emeralds' CD. Working closely with Paul Simpson and with the approval of Ian Broudie, Needle Mythology has been given access to the original quarter-inch tapes which housed everything that Broudie and Simpson recorded together. The process of digitising the contents of all the original tapes unearthed a number of exciting finds, among them the yearning 'Colour and Sound'; an instrumental alternate arrangement of 'On The White Cloud' and the thrilling original demos of 'Drink To Me (My Boyish Days)' and 'Flaming Sword', featuring the late Bunnymen drummer Pete de Freitas.

            Converge

            Love Is Not Enough

For over three decades, CONVERGE have defined the outer limits of heavy music, shaping hardcore, punk, and metal with unmatched urgency and vision.

On 'Love Is Not Enough', their eleventh album, the band channels decades of creative intensity into a focused and fearless reflection on resilience, connection, and the weight of existence. Recorded and mixed by Kurt Ballou at God City Studios in Salem, Massachusetts, the album captures CONVERGE at their most deliberate and dynamic -- ferocious yet deeply human.

Every song hits with precision and purpose, from the explosive title track to the sweeping devastation of 'We Were Never the Same'. It's a record that distills the band's restless evolution into a singular, commanding statement. 'Love Is Not Enough' is both a reckoning and renewal -- proof that after 35 years together, CONVERGE remain one of the most vital and uncompromising forces in modern music.

              Majesty Crush

              Love 15 - 2026 Reissue

Majesty Crush, are a Detroit based shoegaze band from the 90s but lightyears ahead of their time. They released their first, and only studio album 'Love 15' on Dali records which was a subsidiary label of Warner/Elektra but folded shortly after its release. The album offers listeners a dreamy, guitar-driven sound that blurs the lines between indie rock and pop - something that is a defining feature of Majesty Crush.

                Midding

                '.44'

Almost a year to the day from the release of their debut EP, Cardiff-based quintet Midding return with a new five song collection entitled '.44', an oblique reference to Son of Sam serial killer David Berkowitz and his connection to The Process Church of the Final Judgment cult. The Process Church carries a damaged reputation (in part by association), but in its infancy its spiritual radicalism, aesthetic manipulations and commitment to a burgeoning counterculture make good source material for future inspirations. Like Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV and Skinny Puppy before them, Midding understand there's equal fascination to be found in their dark as the light.

Made between Rat Trap Studios and Fairoak, their own home-built recording set-up, these new songs represent the first time they've set live drums to record. The results are marked, shifting from the linear pulse of that first EP to something more dynamic and agile. A bedroom project has now become a fully functioning group. As with the previous EP, all five songs were recorded to tape, which gives '.44' its in-room feel, imbuing a sense of claustrophobia that neatly matches the subject matter of the lyrics, referencing cultdom, serial killer fanaticism, depression and, ultimately, ecstatic release. Tracks like 'All For You' and 'Nuisance' flex with a melodic confidence that's both accessible and off-kilter, though the greatest transgression can be heard on 'For A Little While', a churning spacerock blast overlaid with indecipherable, automatic writing-derived lyrics that suggest some kind of Lovecraftian portal may have been opened up in Wales this past year. Into that portal we might follow...

Brooklyn's elusive Tom returns with the first release on Sweet Breeze Sound, a new label launched by Washington, DC's Marc Meistro of Sol Power All-Stars, aka Glenn Echo. He has already turned heads with a fine set of 12"s on Razor-N-Tape and Sol Power Sound, and here brings some dubby disco grooves and infectious samples. Side A leans into loved-up feels, looping an irresistible 80s r&b vocal over bouncing bass and layers of percussion. The B-side shifts to a more melancholic mood and is run through with a feeling of longing through a single repeated phrase supported by deep dub bass and driving disco rhythm. This is a great inaugural release from a label sure to become essential.

SuckaSide know how to twist a classic into new realms. This latest is further proof on their own self-titled label, starting with a flip of Brazilian-inspired gem. Drums gently break like waves, the vocals are intriguing spoken words, and there's a dark soul lingering in the air. On the flip is their take on downtempo delight which becomes a high speed drum & bass roller with light pads and elevating chords. The lazy trumpets from the original remain in place for that nostalgic touch.

Simply named 'EP #2', the four-track project marks the band’s first independent release on their own label, Love Tap Records, distributed by Virgin Music, and features their first ever self-produced recordings. The music suggests a return to early days, but benefits from a band at the top of their game musically and lyrically. Available on cherry red vinyl.

                      Dry Cleaning

                      Secret Love

'Secret Love' is the finest expression yet of the profound friendships that created Dry Cleaning, between frontperson Florence Shaw, guitarist Tom Dowse, drummer Nick Buxton and bassist Lewis Maynard. Here, the south London four-piece take their place in rock’s avant garde, catalysing the Reaganite paranoia of early 80s US punk and hardcore with the dry strut of Keith Richards, stoner rock, dystopian degradation, playful no wave and pastoral fingerpicking, while Florence’s delivery, meticulously calibrated to her bandmates’ soundscapes, asserts her in a lineage of spoken-word artists stretching from Laurie Anderson to Life Without Buildings’ Sue Tompkins.

The follow-up to 'Stumpwork' started life in Peckham rehearsal spaces, all four members writing, playing and responding to each other in the room: in Dry Cleaning, music and lyrics form an inseparable, generative whole. 'Secret Love' evolved through affirming sessions at Jeff Tweedy’s Chicago studio the Loft and explosive ones with Gilla Band’s Alan Duggan and Daniel Fox at Sonic Studios in Dublin, taking advantage of the sonic particulars of each space, and finally with Cate Le Bon at Black Box in the Loire Valley. After interviewing various potential producers, they picked Cate – an esteemed solo artist who has also made albums for Deerhunter, Devendra Banhart, Wilco and Horsegirl – for her unabashed positivity and openness. “Being in a room with them and hearing that vitality and life force that exists between them all, it’s such a unique expression,” she says.

Trust is 'Secret Love’s guiding theme, as signified by compulsively catchy ‘Hit My Head All Day’ which opens the album. Powered by pistons of breathy synths and cresting arcs of guitar, Florence’s signature mix of absurdism and sensitivity, “The song is about manipulation of the body and mind. The lyrics were initially inspired by the use of misinformation on social media by the far right. There are powerful people that seek to influence our behaviour for their own gain; to buy certain things, to vote a certain way. I find it hard to read people’s intentions and decide who to trust, even in everyday life. It’s easy to fall under the influence of a sinister stranger who seems like a friend.

We took a playful approach to the song. At one point it had harmonica on it instead of a vocal. At the demo stage we were inspired by There's a Riot Goin' On by Sly and the Family Stone.”

He runs his own Sophisticado Recordings label and has recently released two LPs, Beyond and Time Traveler. All I Got For You (Is Love) is a proper vocal anthem. It features funky guitars, star kissed keys and a committed vocal delivery. This is classic Soulful House from Carroll and Lavender! Paint A Picture is a key driven winner that will put you in a positive mood. Modern House songs that really deliver like the classics are rare, but Vick and Ron are on point with the memorable All I Got For You (Is Love).

Love Is The Drug - 50th Anniversary

“The swaggering love song that launched new wave” The Wall Street Journal

Named as one of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Celebrating it’s 50th anniversary in 2025 this 50th anniversary edition is the first full 12” vinyl release for this iconic Roxy Music track that originally reached #2 on the UK Singles Chart in 1975 and is one of their top 3 most streamed tracks.

This 12” features the original and two of the most sought-after remixes, Greg Wilson’s extended edit and Todd Terje’s Disco Dub, as well as the original 7” b-side Sultanesque.

Driven by a seductive, iconic bassline and Bryan Ferry’s confident croon, Love Is the Drug helped redefine the sound of rock‑pop in the mid‑70s—heralded by critics as provocative, stylish, and proto‑new‑wave gold.

The track is one of the 70’s most identifiable tracks – a global chart hit that was an influence on bands such as Gang of Four, PiL, Simple Minds and the Human League, as well as Nile Rodgers of Chic, who acknowledged that its bass riff was a major influence on Chic’s Good Times.

                          The Lovely Basement

                          Lowlands

Post-cool or too old to care? The Lovely Basement say that they set out to mix alt-country with the Velvet Underground. They also say they failed, but quite like the result.

So, what do you find in The Lovely Basement? A beautiful slice of alt-countrystyle. Americana, infused with the sensibilities of the aforementioned Velvet Underground – and a chopping guitar that wouldn’t sound out of place on an album by the VU’s British counterpart, Fairport Convention.

Since the release in 2019 of their first album, 'Just Because You Can', The Lovely Basement have drawn admiring glances from all over the place: “the sweetness of Yo La Tengo and the raggedness of The Pastels”; “not dissimilar to Paisley Underground veterans the Dream Syndicate”; “tossing off songs with the looseness of early Faces”.

The single Cornstalk Girl was the first offering from Lowlands and was picked up by Radio 6 Music’s Gideon Coe, a long-time supporter of the band’s output. Mention was also given to the “excellent” B-side cover of Beat Happening’s 'Angel Gone'. Vocals for the album were recorded by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Howe Gelb, Eels) who stumbled across the band playing live locally and stayed!

Like all Lovely Basement records, Lowlands eloquently covers a range of subjects. From musings on sentience, inequality, globalisation, even theology, to the deep need to hunker down with good friends when the world outside gets too much, all find an often wry voice in this shimmering collection of finely crafted songs.

Straight from the heart of the Motor City, Detroit Techno Records presents From The Basement With Love, a double-vinyl transmission from the legendary Detroit Basement, where the pulse of real techno still beats in raw electricity and sweat. This isn’t nostalgia. This is living history, a direct line from the city that invented techno to the artists who continue to keep its soul alive. Across two slabs of black wax, the pioneers and torchbearers of Detroit gather in one place: Suburban Knight, Body Mechanic, Erotek, Ray 7, The BS Project, Detroit Electronic Authority, Spade The Specialist, and more. Each cut drips with the signature elements that defined a movement, machine funk, militant rhythm, deep emotional circuitry, and that unmistakable underground grit. Curated straight out of the Detroit Basement, this compilation captures the true spirit of a city that never stopped creating, never stopped fighting, never stopped dancing. Every groove is a love letter to the origin, pressed by the hands that built the sound — not a recreation, but a continuation.

                            Loaded Honey

                            Love Made Trees

Loaded Honey is the new project from Brit Award winning Jungle’s Lydia Kitto and J Lloyd, born from an effortless creative partnership that began during the makings of Jungle’s last two albums, ‘Volcano’ and ‘Loving In Stereo’. Working and later living together, they found themselves surrounded by an overflow of musical ideas that stretched beyond the world of Jungle, too intimate and expansive to fit into one singular project. Loaded Honey became the space for all of it. If Jungle is for Friday and Saturday nights, Loaded Honey is for Sunday morning. It’s a different kind of experience. Cinematic, romantic, raw, and deeply soulful. This is music for reflection, for storytelling, for pure emotion.

The musical cream of the crop (MFSB / The Salsoul Orchestra) behind the soulful Sound of Philadelphia - Earl Young (drums), Ron Baker (bass), Norman Harris (guitar), Lenny Pakula (organ), Larry Washington (percussion), Vince Montana, Jr. (vibes) - joined forces with powerhouse vocalists David Simmons, Joe Freeman, Ron Tyson and Bobby Love at Philadelphia's historic Virtue Studios in 1982 to record some of the genre's biggest hits. This small, but sensational set of lush recordings, which were mixed at Alpha Studios - ensuring that every note and nuance was captured with the highest fidelity, recently caught the attention of the famed producer and remixer Eric Kupper. Kupper cut his teeth working as a keyboardist and guitarist for such producer/remixers as David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Arthur Baker, Peter auhofer, and Richie Jones to name a few. Since 1986, he has performed on, remixed, and/or produced over 1400 records for artists spanning all contemporary musical genres. Presented here is "The Love I Lost"

Dare To Love - 30th Anniversary Edition

Originally released in 1995, Jimmy Somerville’s 'Dare To Love' stands as a powerful statement of pride, passion, and pop brilliance, carried by one of the most unmistakable voices in modern music.

'Dare To Love' embodies Somerville’s gift for marrying political conviction with irresistible melodies. Produced by Stephen Hague and other longtime collaborators, the album traverses bass-laden house grooves, slower, dubby reggae numbers and classic pop ballads.

Featuring the UK Top 30 hits 'Heartbeat' and 'Hurt So Good', along with the poignant 'Safe in These Arms', Dare To Love explores love, loss, and identity, both on and off the dancefloor.

                                Sophisticated Soul Legends

Hang Onto Your Love / No Ordinary Love: The Instrumentals

US label Lovers Rock Recordings is back with more sophisticated soul sounds from a bona fide legend. There is no deep digging involved for the source material here, but that's not to say the results aren't still essential. First up are the beautifully horizontal grooves of 'Hang Onto Your Love' with dancing keys adding a little playfulness up top and syrupy bass melting the heart from below. On the flip is 'No Ordinary Love' which is an even more slow, immersive sound with gloppy bass and drawn out chords all slowing time and softening reality. No brainers for late night lovers.

Mine says: Vol. 1 of the new Sophisticated Soul Legends series was a big hit with you lot and although this one features no vocals, it's no less of a hit. Whether you're a Sade fan or not (and why wouldn't you be...), if you like a bit of late night melancholy (and why wouldn't you!!) then this needs to be in your collection. The instrumental of No Ordinary Love is particularly outstanding if you ask me.

UK-based DJ and producer Wallace debuts on Phantasy Sound with an irresistible double A-side single, ‘Cravings (ft. Love Letters) / Concourse.’ Bubbling with sensuality and euphoria, both tracks reinforce Wallace’s burgeoning reputation as one of electronic music’s most impressive new voices, a crowning moment on Erol Alkan’s long-running label following a stellar run of singles for imprints including Cooking With Palms Trax, Rhythm Section, and Moxie's much-loved On Loop.

Led by a longing, inquisitive performance from vocalist and underground house music luminary, Love Letters, ‘Cravings’ builds from a simple throbbing bass line to an eruption of lyrical and musical joy. Exploring onset desire – risk, uncertainty, and ultimately, reward – Wallace’s deep and celebratory arrangement interweaves with Love Letters’ queer perspective to deliver universal satisfaction.

While ‘Cravings’ looks inward to find release, ‘Concourse’ goes for the jugular with a darker, more epic sensibility than Wallace has previously indulged. His flawless production touch seamlessly gifts magic to a widescreen techno epic that might not sound out of place on the terrace at Circoloco or else a field near early-nineties Frankfurt, repeatedly working his acid-oriented machines into a lather and conjuring cosmic drama from eerie, choral voices beneath a powerful groove.

                                STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Another producer who seemingly refuses to leave the studio at the moment (gotta admire the work ethic of these kids!). For the always-on-point Phantasy Sound the Shrewsbury upstart delivers one moody acidic bubbler and one highly combustible ball of late night club fire.

A Treasure Trove of NYC Post-Disco Gems from 1980–1983

New York City, early 1980s. Post-Disco and Boogie Funk pulse through the streets, clubs, and studios—and Richie Weeks stands at the heart of it all. A true force in the scene, Richie had just dropped the now-classic “Rock Your World” in 1981. Signed to the iconic Salsoul Records, he was riding high: performing at legendary venues like Paradise Garage, Studio 54, Roseland, and Bond International, touring Europe, and recording tirelessly with top-tier vocalists and musicians in studios across the city.

With his projects The Jammers and Weeks & Co. storming the charts both in the U.S. and abroad, Richie was unstoppable. Fueled by a relentless creative drive, he spent countless hours in the studio—writing, arranging, and producing a massive catalog of dancefloor anthems, many of which never saw release. Until now.

Jerome Derradji and Past Due Records are proud to present Richie Weeks – The Love Magician Archives: Boogie & Post Disco. NYC 1980–1983 Vol. 3, the third installment from Richie’s personal archive. Spanning 1980 to 1983, this collection features eight electrifying, previously unreleased tracks from The Jammers and Weeks & Co., as well as the futuristic grooves of Kaviar and Hot Cargo. Richie shines through the entire record—his writing, production, vocals, and arrangements are absolute killers.

Housed in a deluxe double LP package with an insert featuring the second chapter of Richie’s musical journey—penned by Jerome Derradji—this volume is a vital piece of New York’s post-disco history.

                                      The Book Of Lies

Formed in 2024, Brighton-based duo White Magic for Lovers (Anglo-American couple Alfie & Thomas White) released their debut album ‘The Book of Lies’ on Valentine’s Day 2025 via the band’s own Chord Orchard imprint.

Weaving together disparate influences from across the decades (Judee Sill, Broadcast, Mary Lou Williams…) the LP followed three singles, the group supporting the release with live shows alongside C Duncan, The Waeve and Sea Power.

New GE-OLOGY on the newly minted Love Universal. Interstella acid jazz, cosmic soul and liquid bruk are order of the day as GE-OLOGY takes us on a technicoloured tour of his soundscape.

Pairing deep musicality with intrinsic sound design and strong rhythms, GE-OLOGY composes a double album that'll please everyone from jazz heads, broken beat fans and Detroit techno aficionados alike. The kinda shit Luke Unabomber loves to delve into on his Worldwide FM show and even a bit of Carl Craig and Theo Parrish's Sound Signature label in there too!

                                        Limited copies. Don't sleep.

                                        STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Skirting the boundaries between broken beat, deep house and Detroit techno, GE-OLOGY crafts a heavily scented, slightly sweaty set of tracks that gallop along at a natural pace and unfurl almost effortlessly. It's a deliciously organic palette through and through, nodding to jazz and soul along the way. A musical triumph from this long serving cat.

                                          Sister Irene O'Connor

                                          Fire Of God's Love - 2025 Reissue

'Fire of God’s' Love is the legendary 1973 album by Australian nun Sister Irene O’Connor—a sincere, soulful, and unconsciously psychedelic song sequence devoted to self-reflection and awakening the spirit within. A collection of original folk spirituals written by and channelled through O’Connor with guitar, electric organ, drum machine and her angelic voice, the album was recorded and mixed in an astonishingly futuristic fashion by fellow nun and recording engineer Sister Marimil Lobregat. Freedom To Spend offers the first authorised reissue of this holy grail since 1976; the album restored and remastered with care and consideration from the best available sources. As a young Roman Catholic nun in the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary order, Sister Irene’s forays into music began in 1953 when she moved from Sydney to a convent in Singapore and began teaching children with learning difficulties. Acquiring an acoustic guitar and learning three simple chords, Irene’s songs blossomed with the children’s enthusiasm. Serendipitously, a parent of one student worked at a commercial radio station in Singapore, and Irene was invited to the station to perform and record in its studio. She went along, wearing her habit and carrying her guitar, and cut her first original song there in 1965. Under the pseudonym Myiriam Frances, to maintain anonymity within her order (“Nuns didn’t do that kind of thing,” noted O’Connor), Phillips released a series of Sister Irene’s records at the tail end of the 1960s

It was at the convent in Singapore that Sister Irenemet Sister Marimil Lobregat, a fellow Franciscan nun who moved to the island from the Philippines in the early 1960s. More than a decade later, as if by divine intervention, they reconnected at another convent at Point Piper in Sydney. Marimil, also a musician and sound enthusiast, worked at the Catholic Radio and Television Centre in Homebush, in western Sydney, as an audio and visual technician. Sister Irene, faithfully honing her musical craft, and Sister Marimil hatched a plan to meet at the centre over a series of Sunday afternoons, and create the songs that would become 'Fire of God’s Love'. The songs of 'Fire of God’s Love' are sung in an angelic soprano by Sister Irene (with lyrics spanning English, Latin, and Malay) and produced by Sister Marimil, recorded on aTeac 3340S 4-track reel-to-reel. Marimil was instrumental in conjuring the uncanny otherworldliness that permeates the album. The crystalline fabric of Sister Irene’s voice is held exquisitely in a shimmering mosaic of reverb and analogue synthesiser hum, while momentously ringing out like a bell in the darkness, projecting until truth or the divine appears. Themes such as mercy, grace, light, and mystery are punctuated by a gentle acoustic guitar strum and eternal piano notes spinning slowly on a vibrating thread

For the songs with keyboards, Sister Irene played all the parts live in real time, including the bass pedals. The drum machine was generated by the same organ she played, and performed simultaneously. All of this lends to an atmosphere of heightened presence, an organic flash helmed deep from the subconscious. Originating from ideas created in a quiet convent and sequestered from worldly influence, the liturgical framework of the album is filtered through the intimate devotion of two Sisters — their own interpretation of pop music stripped of pretension and superficial glamour.

The album’s title, like many of its songs, stems from a Bible verse, in this case Luke 12:49. But Sisters Irene and Marimil ushered it into a space where all spiritualseekers can appreciate the transmission [Or: unusual hermeneutics]. The lyrics address universal needs, wants, and desires: everlasting love and affection, an end to loneliness, a new form of relief, and deliverance from the fear of death. Instead of hymnal forms, Sister Irene, perhaps inadvertently, utilises folk and psychedelia fashionable at the time to deliver a sermon that reads like love letters to a divine presence, speaking to the soul, beyond any formal religion. 'Fire of God’s Love' is an inspiring archive of early electronic experimentation between two women friends and mystics, a documentation of their divine energy channelled in a disciplined way. Upon initial release, it was neither a flat-out success nor a failure, but was met mostly as a curiosity. The pair never made more music together, and in the 50 years since, their one-off collaboration continues to draw listeners in by way of record shop find (whether the original Phillips pressing or sonically superior 1976 reissue on AlbaHouse Communications) or more likely via YouTube, as a stumbled across and feverishly commented-on cult classic. Today, Sister Irene is living in Sydney, Australia, and is happy that new audiences are finding meaning in her music with Sister Marimil. Her story is a testament that you don’t need much to create a visionary, enduring album: a tape recorder, friendship, the 'Fire of God’s Love to ignite the pathway forward. That might be an aspirational friend, or an earthly companion right beside you.

Forever Dolphin Love - 2025 Repress

Originally released in 2010, 'Forever Dolphin Love' remains a vital introduction to the strange and fantastical universe of Connan Tant Hosford. Following its release, Connan enjoyed a flurry of critical and artistic praise from the likes of David Byrne, Johnny Marr, Blood Orange's Dev Hynes and Charlotte Gainsbourg, with whom Connan is an ongoing collaborator.

There's a truly mercurial quality cast over the album, which is full of subtle idiosyncrasies that gradually reveal themselves after repeated listens.
'It's Choade My Dear' and 'Faking Jazz Together' are perfect slices of lightheaded psych pop, constructed around spidery hooks, pitter-patter percussion and slow, sinuous grooves. The title track acts as the album's centerpiece - an ambitious suite that clocks in at over ten minutes; slithering through funk-filled interludes and lush passages into one of the album's most frantic and memorable hooks.

Championed by the late, great Tony De Vit on the legendary dancefloor of ‘Trade’, Tony was the first DJ to play the ‘Sharp Dub’, after being handed an acetate by the boys. Eats Everything, off the back of his debut album ‘We Lost Ourselves and Found A Family’, delivers a blistering new ‘Reebeef’. Listing the ‘Sharp Dub’ in his ‘10 Best Hardbag Tracks of All Time’, Eat’s admiration of the original, Tony De Vit and the nuances and essence of Dance Music culture is evident with this essential rework, guaranteed to be a genuine highlight of the year. The package features both this great new rework and the timeless original!

                                              Stella Donnelly

                                              Love And Fortune

On Love and Fortune, the third album from Australian musician Stella Donnelly and first for Brace Yourself Records, Donnelly returns with a deeply personal and anchored set of songs, a body of work that traces the journey back to herself after a period of profound change. Recorded in Naarm/Melbourne, the album carries the grounding energy of place, offering a sonic landscape that feels both intimate and expansive.

After several intense years on the road, Donnelly stepped away from touring to re-evaluate her relationship with music and to ask whether she still loved it. That quiet pause led to a deeper listening: to her instincts, her emotions, and the many past versions of herself. What emerged is a collection of songs shaped by multiple endings — the dissolving of relationships, the closing of chapters, the echo of things that once felt permanent. These are breakup songs, but not just of the romantic kind. They mark a shedding of skins, a release of old expectations, and a cautious openness to what might come next.

“These songs wouldn't leave me alone,” Donnelly says. “Like seagulls, they screamed at me when I rode to work, they pecked at me while I wrote essays, and they stole my chips the second I thought I was happy without music.”

Tapping back into this source, Donnelly arrives at a starker sound that lays bare the individual behind the artist. Love and Fortune blends pianos and guitars, as in her earlier work, but this time the arrangements are more exposed, more intentional. It captures the stiller self, the reflective self, that gently asks where to next. There is a clarity here, the kind that comes from reconnecting with what matters. The result is Donnelly’s most open-hearted and self-assured work to date — a record about loss, certainly, but even more about the quiet, enduring fortune of finding one’s way home.

Love and Fortune follows 2019’s Beware of the Dogs and 2022’s Flood, two albums that marked out Donnelly as one of Australia’s finest contemporary songwriters and drew praise and acclaim from the likes of The Guardian, Pitchfork, NME, BBC Radio 1, Clash, DIY, NPR, BBC 6 Music, Paste and many more.

Barry says: A profoundly gorgeous selection of pieces that move between barely adorned, vocal-forward folk (Love And Fortune / Baths / Ghosts) and the more dynamic, upbeat groovers (Being Nice / Feel It Change). For me, 'Baths' is a probably the most heartfelt, affecting thing she's done. A stunning, beautifully textured whole.

Sending All My Love Out - 2025 Repress

Kalita are proud to present a 2025 repress of Emerson’s 1988 mythical electro boogie grail ‘Sending All My Love Out’, accompanied by two remixes courtesy of the genre’s most respected innovators, Egyptian Lover and Detroit In Effect. Limited to only 500 copies, pressed on electrifying yellow 12” vinyl.

Originally privately released as an obscure 7” single on LAS Records, operated by visionary power couple Emerson and Leora Sandidge, ‘Sending All My Love Out’ has since transformed into a hallowed grail among dance music collectors, enthusiasts and DJs alike, commanding sky-high prices on the second-hand scene.

A late 80’s electro boogie anthem, featuring a heavy mix of synthesizer and drum-machine euphoria, overlaid with Emerson and Leora’s own vocals, the recording truly is in a league of its own.

And to do justice to its legendary status, Kalita has dusted off the original multi-track master tapes and enlisted two of the electro scene’s most revered figures, namely Egyptian Lover and Detroit In Effect, to remix and elevate the track in their own signature style.

                                                  A truly special release.

                                                    Lovelock

Business And Pleasure - 2025 Reissue

Steve Moore reprises his beloved Lovelock guise by presenting his unique riff on the library breaks genre. Business And Pleasure contains grimy groove and sleazy, funk-laden lounge music.

This vinyl release is hyper-limited, with just 500 pressed for the world.

The LP is ushered in by the spacey synth-funk of the sleazy, woozy title track. This is that serious slo-mo cosmic-balearic head-nod shit. Laidback bass, heavy funk with dreamy synth and electric guitars. An outstanding opener. Up next, the dynamic, swaggering "Last Call" is a sophisticated, elegant stroll - sweeping, mellow strings, a smooth bassline and gorgeous percussion with urgent keys and swelling synths.

"Slinky Strut" is another spaced-out, sleazy funk groove with jazz rock by way of a heavy, heavy guitar riff, mellotron and bass breakdowns which build to brass crescendos. Gigantic. "First Class" closes out the side, and, like classic Hawkshaw / Bennett noir, it's got that mysterious and murky stretched out sleuth / detective soul with a great bassline and percussive elements, with swelling strings, ace synths and smooth Rhodes piano melodies entering the mix halfway through. Dramatic guitars and groovy percussion add extra intrigue. It's 7 minutes of funk!

Side B opens with the stretched-out psychedelic funk and jazz groove of "Stank 49". It takes its sweet time to unfurl, creating enormous - almost sensual - anticipation for the ensuing beauty but, as it does, we're left beguiled and straight-up hypnotised. Heaven-sent synth flourishes and a laidback bassline over smooth drums cement its simple, vivacious grace. "Dangerous Man" is that creeping crime funk we all love; heavy bass and fuzzy guitar riffs, mellow strings and sumptuous piano/synths. It's irresistible, it's ominous and it's pretty gargantuan. It's basically like an El-P hip-hop instrumental. We need to get some rappers over this stuff, stat!

"Stinkbug" is a dazzling and funky groove-fuelled jazz-rock workout with fizzing synth riffs joined by full percussion and drum breaks, building with strings to a strong swagger. Vigour! To close out this remarkable set, the breezy "Win Or Lose" is laidback soul-inflected funk, utilising urgent, skipping drums and galloping basslines. Just stunning.

This collection was written and recorded in Spring and Summer of ’24. Everything was tracked at Steve's home studio in Albany, NY except the drums and percussion, which were recorded by Jeff Gretz at his space in NYC. The whole collection is basically a rhythm section feature, so Steve's Rickenbacker 4003 and Fender Jazz Bass play very prominently. The bass guitar serves as lead instrument in a lot of these tracks. Also, lots of Rhodes and stringers (Solina, Logan etc) and guitar (Strat and Les Paul). He even dusted off my sax for this one, which he doesn’t do as often as he’d like!

This type of groove-oriented library music has been a steady part of Steve's diet since the late 90’s. In heavy rotation while writing this collection were the following classics: “Time Signals” by Klaus Weiss, “Tilsley Orchestral No. 10” by Reg Tilsley, and “Heavy Truckin’” by Simon Haseley. “Voyage” by Brian Bennett was also a big one.

Lovelock started as a dedicated Italo-disco project, but over the years Steve expanded it to include anything directly informed by the commercial/pop side of the music of his childhood (70s/80s). Writing and recording this album was, like a lot of Steve's music these days, basically a test to see whether or not he could do it.

The song titles, like the music, are meant to be evocative yet vague. But there is a bit of a travel theme. Steve imagined this record being the soundtrack to a sleazy salesman’s business trip. The kind of guy who, when asked if he’s traveling for business or pleasure, responds “both.” Beyond the traveling salesman comparison, the title directly relates to the creation of this album. This was something he wanted to do just for his own enjoyment. Yet, like our sleazy salesman, he still found a way to get paid.

The album’s cover was designed by Chris Stevenson, with no little direction from Steve. He knew that he wanted to go with something photography-based for this cover so, in true DIY/cheapskate spirit, Steve started by looking through his own photos. He found the cover image on his phone, taken through an almost empty bottle of beer, and it clicked. The whole album has a very boozy vibe (especially with titles like “Last Call”) so this shot seemed appropriate. We, hic, agree.

Mastering for this vinyl edition was overseen by Be With regular Simon Francis, and it was cut by the esteemed Cicely Balston at Abbey Road Studios to be pressed in the Netherlands by Record Industry.

                                                        STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: A brand new one from The Charalatans, drifting in familiar waters, with evocative jangling guitar and snappy percussion sitting beneath Tim's unmistakeable (and enduringly iconic) vocals. There is more of a focus on the rhythmic element here perhaps, with more of a danceable groove underpinning the whole affair, but in the end it's a wonderfully familiar sound from one of our favourite outfits.

Ex Voto / The Silent Love

Following acclaimed outings 'About Love and Loving Again' and 'Hold Your Love Still', Christian Kjellvander returns with 'Ex Voto / The Silent Love', a quietly devastating and profoundly intimate record that completes an unofficial trilogy exploring love in its most tender, conflicted, and spiritual forms.

Originally conceived as an album of ten soft, calm country songs, 'Ex Voto' gradually evolved into something more expansive, yet the embryo of that intention remains, pulsing gently beneath every track. The record opens with two stripped-back songs, flows into a louder, more dynamic centre piece, then drifts back into stillness, mirroring the emotional journey of its creation. As with its predecessors, 'Ex Voto' continues Christian’s exploration of themes like love, religion, the natural world, and beauty, subjects he approaches with poetic precision and emotional depth. But this album goes deeper. It is more intimate, more raw. Christian was in a different place when he began writing it, and while the gravitational centre of his artistry remains constant, that personal shift colours the entire record.

Recorded live over a few days in an old summer house by the sea at Sweden’s southern tip, the album captures the breath and quiet of a room where no headphones were needed, where vocals bleed into the space through a PA, and every creak of the floorboards became part of the sound. The spectres of each voice and instrument haunt the multi-tracks like spirits lingering in a deep desert night. It’s romantic and cinematic, a kind of small-town noir transposed from the Texan wilderness to the Swedish coast. At the heart of the record is Kjellvander’s deep, expressive baritone and lyrical clarity, surrounded by a sparse yet richly textured palette: brush drums, bass clarinet, mournful cornet, Rhodes, synths, and the haunting counterpoint of female vocals. From the ghostly intimacy of 'Love of Another' to the stormy crescendo of 'Deathrider', the album moves with patience and purpose.

Songs like 'God Simple' and 'It Can Heal If You Let It' ride slow grooves into emotional catharsis, while 'The View Is Watching' swells into a shadowy, psychedelic dirge. Even the instrumental 'Ex Voto' hums with spiritual weight. Producer Tobias Fröberg focused on the scale of Christian’s voice and the gravity of his words, using reverb to lend a hyper-real quality to the album’s mood. The sound is different to its predecessors, and so was the recording process - just players in a room, leaning into the silence between sounds. The result is a document of presence: atmospheric, unguarded, and emotionally resonant. Ex Voto / The Silent Love is a record that inspires patience. It’s not to be consumed, but sat with, like a long conversation late into the night.

Bogdan Ra kicks off his new Love Affair label with four banging cuts that nod to the 90s and bring plenty of authentic acid madness. 'Kick It Off' begins with a heavyweight bump, trippy synth motifs and rigid rhythms that make you jerk your body in an 80s Chicago style. 'After Acid Hours' is another full body workout with wiggly 303s adding the energy and 'Ough Yeah' then gets snappy and sweaty with its fractured vocals and strobe-lit moods. 'Beat Body' shuts down with a more slamming technoid energy and rugged acid. Four stylish, fresh and destructive sounds.

                                                              The Lemonheads

                                                              Love Chant

After years of writing, wandering, and starting over, Evan Dando returns with 'Love Chant', the first Lemonheads studio album of original material in nearly two decades. Long in the works and shaped by shifting geographies and a cast of trusted collaborators, it’s a bold, melodic reaffirmation of one of alternative rock’s most distinctive voices.

Now based in Brazil, where much of the album was recorded, Dando’s relocation in recent years has offered a quiet shift in perspective — a chance to reset, reconnect, and finally bring these songs into focus. The result is a record that sounds both fresh and familiar: rooted in the hallmarks of The Lemonheads’ best work, yet expanded by years of lived experience and new surroundings.

'Love Chant' was produced by Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Apollo Nove, it draws together old friends and new allies. J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr), Juliana Hatfield, and Tom Morgan rejoin the fold, alongside producer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Antony and the Johnsons), Nashville’s Erin Rae, John Strohm of the Blake Babies and Nick Saloman of The Bevis Frond. Adam Green of cult New York favourites The Moldy Peaches also contributes as co-writer on the loose-limbed country detour 'Wild Thing'.

Over the past few years, The Lemonheads’ influence has only deepened. Artists like MJ Lenderman, Courtney Barnett and Waxahatchee have all covered Dando’s songs, praising the emotional clarity, melodic instinct, and wry intimacy that define his writing. That resonance across generations makes 'Love Chant' feel like more than a return — it’s a reminder of what made this band matter in the first place.

System Olympia presents a bold, cinematic compilation that redefines the sound of sensuality. Love Language is an 18-track double-vinyl release pressed on both heavyweight velvet red and white linen colour vinyl, also a deluxe heavyweight black vinyl. The CD and full-length digital package expand the experience to 20 tracks, that comes mixed & unmixed. It’s accompanied by a provocative, limited-edition 24-page fanzine, exclusive to 18+ audiences.

This is not just a compilation, Love Language is a manifesto. A carefully curated sonic journey through eroticism, artistic rebellion, and liberation, it spans nearly five decades of music and features exclusive edits and rare gems that illuminate System Olympia’s radical aesthetic vision.

Various Artists – curated by System Olympia "Love Language"
Since her emergence on the electronic underground, System Olympia has carved out a distinct, sensual sonic universe, equal parts vulnerable and defiant. With Love Language, she presents her most audacious project to date: a compilation rooted in what she calls The Aesthetics of Sexual Desire in Sound.

It’s a daring declaration that desire is more than a feeling - it’s a language. Across 20 tracks, including her own sultry opener “The Heat Of The Night (feat. REINEN)” and a rare System Olympia edit of Working Men’s Club’s “Ploys”, this compilation speaks in rhythms and textures that evoke longing, intimacy, and ecstatic release.

This is not a traditional compilation. System Olympia’s sequencing is cinematic and deliberate. Every track a scene in a film that exists only in the listener’s imagination. From the retro-futurist seduction of Flavia Fortunato’s Italo gem “Se Tu Vuoi” to the deep, extended tension of Musclecars’ “Running Out of Time,” each piece plays its part in an arc of anticipation, climax, and reflection.

Uniting artists as diverse as Daniele Baldelli, Piero Umiliani, and DJ Rocca, Love Language refuses boundaries of genre, era, or expectation. It dances between vintage Italo-disco, dreamy electronica, sweaty club tracks, and avant-garde jazz, forming a rich tapestry of sound and sensation.

System Olympia explains, “This is music for lovers, outsiders, and dreamers. It's a rebellion made of velvet and basslines.”

The accompanying 24-page fanzine insert, restricted to adults, further deepens the narrative, with erotic visual fragments and poetic texts that amplify the compilation’s raw, sensual energy. A tangible extension of the music’s spirit, the zine invites listeners to step into Olympia’s world and engage their senses fully.

As much a provocation as it is a celebration, Love Language is a deeply personal curation and a radical act of creative freedom. It champions eroticism as art, desire as dialogue, and music as a liberatory force.

His lyricism and singular vision have earned him critical acclaim, a devoted global following and a Grammy nomination for his contribution to Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange. Known for pushing boundaries and reshaping underground rap, Earl continues to evolve with each release.

He now returns with Live Laugh Love, his most expansive and conceptually ambitious project to date. Rooted in themes of wellness, growth and the philosophy behind its title, the album reflects Earl’s current way of life, choosing joy while staying grounded in truth. Across 11 tracks, he folds in irony, nostalgia and sharp observation, creating a body of work that embraces life’s contradictions: joy alongside darkness, levity alongside gravity.

Rounding off is Sam Divine the first lady of Defected who has held residencies at clubs such as Pacha, Amnesia, Sankeys, Ushuaïa, Eden, among others. She sinks her teeth into this remix by building up the vocal into a drop which is sure to keep the dancefloor going for the late nights that need that boost of energy.

An ambient symphony of ethereal decay, upgraded to 21st century classic status. Tracked at home in ‘92 with a 12-string guitar, 4 track recorder, looping pedal, infinite reverb, and the textured coos of enigmatic vocalist Melissa Arpin Duimstra, Scott Cortez’s lovesliescrushing project transformed post-adolescent bedroom daydreaming into a serene, moonlit float on an endless sea. This expanded and remastered double album edition adds five more distortion-wracked reflections from the vault, with lyrics and replica postcard to get lost in along the way. No need for the eyewash station here—blindness intended.

Originally released in '92, lovesliescrushing's 'bloweyelashwish' leans in to the more ambienty/post-rocky side of the gaze but still just as beautiful. Love Kraft - 20th Anniversary Edition

Originally released on Mon 22 August 2005, the Furries’ third and final album to be recorded by Epic Records, Love Kraft is reissued on double vinyl and  2CDs, including the 22-track bonus CD, Kiss Me With Apocalypse  via the Cardiff-based independent label, Strangetown Records. Four previously unheard tracks are drawn from the vaults, including the squidgy ELO-stomp of drummer, Daf Ieuan-led Rock ‘N’ Roll Flu, plus the distorted space-jam of Cae Marw, the band’s deep-bass sketch of Palo Alto and ghostly, percussive morsel of Bedw Arian.

The album followed six previous albums by the band, including their statement debut album, Fuzzy Logic in 1996, melding an attention-demanding mix of literary, narcotic and musical influences. Maintaining a shape that was ill-fitting in the jigsaw of other 90’s guitar bands, their follow-up, UK Top Ten album, Radiator brought the hooky squelch of the bona fide indie dancefloor classic, The International Language of Screaming. The next decade saw the release of the first Top 20-charting, Welsh language album, Mwng (2000), followed by further experimentation and commercial success with Rings Around The World (2001) and Phantom Power (2003).

'Love Kraft’s sense of cohesion, collaboration and free-flow of rich harmony has been credited to the five-piece escaping Wales to record in the shimmering heat of Figueres, Catalunya. Bringing famed Beastie Boys producer, Mario Caldato Jr along with them for the ride, the travelling band’s stay in the Catalonian hometown of Salvador Dali included found sounds, boozy petrol stations, gastronomic revelations and, finally, a rich album of strings, synths and opulent vocal harmonies.

While eventually finding their way to Baha, near to Rio di Janeiro to mix the album 'Love Kraft’s story began in Wales and Pleasure Foxxx Studios, where the band began to craft the album’s songs. Embracing the landmark of a seventh album, notably coming after the 2004 release of their first ‘best of…’ package, 'Songbook: The Singles, Vol. 1', Super Furry Animals pooled ideas and affected further democracy in their songwriting, taking a load off traditional lead-writer and front man, Gruff Rhys, and sharing in lead vocal duties (aside from the microphone-averse bassist, Guto Pryce).

'Love Kraft' was the first Super Furry Animals album recorded to hard disc instead of multi-track tape, and found the band typically explorative and open to happenstance. Zoom’s opening splash into the recording studio’s swimming pool is accompanied by the on-location, pool table samples found elsewhere on the album.

I always really loved this album, starting with the brilliant artwork and then journeying inwards to the land of dreams and whimsy and layers of sound. My favourite song is Lazer Beam which just packs everything this glorious madcap band does into four magical, spiralling minutes. Another megarecord and a timely reissue.

It’s a musical landscape informed by the Sixties psychedelia of India via a Haight Ashbury happening. It’s a kaleidoscopic vision that takes us from a 20th century Fin de Siècle and lands us in the here and now of the 21st Century. It’s for dancers, for seekers and is all underscored by The Bongolian’s trademark heavy rhythms and breaks. It’s another fine instalment of essential cuts for the dancefloor and for high fidelity listening, quality is guaranteed. From the East to the West, welcome to the Indian Summer of Love. Nasser Bouzida performs drums, percussion, guitars and keys whilst the album features several new flavours to the Bongolian sound with the prominent instrumentation of sitars and bansuri, along with flute, trumpet, saxophone and trombone performances from several stellular international guest musicians.

It may sound a little strange, but the title and beating heart of Icelandic indie-folk collective Of Monsters and Men’s fourth album hits a lot closer to home than you’d expect. A tapestry of stories, moments, and conversations, the album explores how love and pain intertwine. Feelings that might seem at odds with each other, but co-exist simultaneously and need one another. Tales both big and small — from the loneliness and longing of living in a block surrounded by strangers, to missed connections in a grocery store, to the lives and losses of a community of mice in a vacant house during winter.

Of Monsters and Men went from Reykjavík to the global stage with their breakout 2011 debut 'My Head Is An Animal', which propelled them from Icelandic indie darlings to international chart-toppers. The album’s breakout single 'Little Talks', a defining song for a generation, now boasts over 1 billion Spotify streams.

Amid their meteoric rise, the band released their sophomore album 'Beneath The Skin' in 2015, which debuted in the Top 3 of the Billboard 200 and was accompanied by a surprise cameo on HBO’s huge hit series Game of Thrones. Their cinematic sound has popped up everywhere from The Hunger Games to The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, while their festival appearances — Coachella, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, and more.

                                                                                Bin Juice

The most inspiring bands are the ones that can create a world around themselves that is about far more than just the music. The artwork, lyrics, sounds and ethos all merge together perfectly to create its own universe, a secret club. The Lovely Eggs are one such band. And against all the odds, 2025 sees them celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band! Stubbornly and heroically independent, The Lovely Eggs have forged their own path and have achieved mainstream success without ever compromising their DIY ethics.

Released on their own label Egg Records, with eye watering artwork by Casey Raymond and hand packed in a black plastic bin bag on neon toxic slime green vinyl, this is yet another collectible release from a band who care as much about the art and ideas in their records as they do about the sound.

“We had all these spare songs after we released our last album 'Eggsistentialism' and we didn’t really know what to do with them,” explained Holly. “They just didn’t seem to fit in with the vibe of 'Eggsistentialism' but we’d recorded them and wanted to get them out there.”

“They’re kind of a sketchbook of songs,” added David. “They’re not polished or laboured over but we thought it would be interesting to release them. It’s why we called the record 'Bin Juice'. These were songs we had thrown away. But hopefully people like going through bins collecting trash.”

                                                                                  TRACK LISTING

                                                                                  The Loves

                                                                                  Live At The BBC

Sticking out like a flower-patterned thumb amid the grey and brown hues of the serious boys in the early 2000s Cardiff music scene, The Loves soon established themselves as a band who categorically didn’t listen to Radiohead.

Their debut single (Little Girl Blues b/w She’ll Break Your Heart) soon caught the ear of John Peel, who invited them in to record a session for his programme. As the feedback echoed at the end of When My Baby Comes, he commented: “I bet they’re a riot live … maybe we should get them in for a live one?”

And so it came to pass that The Loves – led by the eponymous Simon Love – did indeed perform a seven-song live session for Peel. Broadcast from the BBC’s Maida Vale Studios in September 2001, this provides the bulk of the first side of this, The Loves Live at the BBC album. Track eight is a cover of Queen’s You’re My Best Friend, also broadcast live from Peel Acres a bit later on.

The Loves went on to record three more sessions for Peel in an 18-month period, as well as touring with high-profile groups such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Cribs.

Over the next decade or so, The Loves released four smash-packed albums – Love, Technicolour, Three and Love You – plus several indie-hit singles like Boom-A-Bang-Bang-Bang, Xs And Os and December Boy, named 6 Music Single of the Week by Radcliffe & Maconie. Versions of all these songs appear on The Loves Live at the BBC.

They also recorded a lot more live sessions for Marc Riley, who does the honours on side two of the new album with eight songs recorded for his show, culminating in another cover in the shape of the Velvet Underground’s Guess I’m Falling In Love.

As the seasons changed, so did the membership of the group and by 2011, it was estimated they’d gone through 37 members and had played many gigs all over the world with such contemporaries as Darren Hayman, The Lovely Eggs and Comet Gain (to name but three). In 2024, they released a career retrospective vinyl double album, True Love – The Most Of The Loves.

Now the best of their live work at the BBC is collated on this new LP, which is released as part of the ongoing sessions series on Precious Recordings of London.

                                                                                    TRACK LISTING

                                                                                    Love Dealer

Here to dazzle you by the power of the disco ball, Lack of Afro is your friendly neighbourhood ‘Love Dealer’. Two years on from the funk & soul rebirth of ‘Square One’, powered by the ubiquitous ‘Loving Arms’ featuring Greg Blackman, Lack of Afro aka Adam Gibbons is now close to two decades deep in the game with soundtrack credits galore and online streams doing calculator-busting numbers. With extensive touring taking ‘Love Dealer’ up and down the country this Autumn, Gibbons’ ninth studio album is all for "the thrill of seeing people on a dancefloor, all collectively locked into a track that you've produced - there’s nothing like it!”.

‘Love Dealer’ is the authentic modern disco experience, packing a stacked sole’s worth of club beats full of stardusted sing-alongs, style-outs and French touch-style cool. Despite being “written during one of the longest winters in living memory”, ‘Love Dealer’, featuring some co-production from fellow South Coast dancefloor scholar Flevans (and influenced by producer du jour Barry Can’t Swim), exudes warmth and will make you sweat when its highs take effect.

Entering the scene with the radiance of ‘Make It Shine’ featuring Greg Blackman, washing over the airwaves of BBC 6 Music and Radio 2 and taking up a 10-week residency on the Jazz FM playlist, Gibbons and his crack line-up of discotheque players are your go-to team when you can’t wait for the weekend to begin, as subtle as they are straight down to business. ‘Love Dealer’ offers you nothing but the best in sparkling string symphonies, the hippest guitar licks, samples of those invited beyond the velvet rope and struts soaked in night fever.

Double A-side ‘Walls Start Rockin’ and ‘Heart & Soul’ guide the album’s glamour-and-groove, while ‘Love Saves The Day’ and ‘Plain to See’ dramatically take to the podium in a shimmer of pure peak 70s theatre. ‘Keeping Me Strong’ is the synergy of disco chic and the sound of a global advertising tie-in with Dyson, ahead of Gibbons taking a slightly Moroder/Cerrone-ish detour on ‘Idolising People Like Madlib’. “'Love Dealer' is aimed unequivocally at the dancefloor" says Adam. "As an artist, I wanted to push myself in a slightly new direction - more into the land of disco and a four to the floor sound. 'Love Dealer' is quintessentially an upbeat record, full of joy, optimism and hope for the future”. Seek your inner ‘Love Dealer’, kink your ‘fro and let your funk flag fly.

After so long it becomes harder to say new things about older things you now just do. Some things you’ve become. Some things you simply (never simply) are. The thing becomes a slippery notion. The self slides along with it. After this long, the story is whatever are the songs.

Here are 11 new ones, from the current constellation, and a future still to come. The cement is still wet on that one.

From the forest near where I now live you can hear a chorus of different birds in voice at once, competing but each defined, in defence of a territory or to attract a mate. There’s an app that tells you so. I wonder, too, what that app doesn’t reveal, if their nature need not share those same purposes. This is simply (never simply) how it exists. If we can’t speak to the mysteries of these strategies, they at least persist, regardless of who picks up the frequency. Singing to itself, and there will always be these kinds of songs.

37 years after the release of her multi-million selling debut album ‘Ancient Heart’ Tanita Tikaram will release the sequel entitled ‘LIAR (Love Isn’t A Right)’. The long-awaited new album reveals the emotional and societal differences between the woman Tanita was at just 18 when she made ‘Ancient Heart’ to the woman she is today, taking in four decades of life experience. ‘LIAR (Love Isn’t A Right)’ is released on 10 October 2025 via Cooking Vinyl. Her first album in almost a decade, ‘LIAR (Love Isn’t A Right)’ is an album of haunting beauty and exquisite musicianship underplaying her unique voice that tells a masterful story of emotional, political and personal truths. When it was released in 1988, the multi-million selling ‘Ancient Heart’ was the story of an uncertain 18-year-old brown gay woman living in middle England feeling like a stranger in her own home.

Almost 40 years later that same woman, now feeling like a stranger in her own country as politics and society become more divisive. ‘LIAR (Love Is A Right)’ is a full circle moment: a comment on community and its importance for all our futures and the perfect accompaniment to her classic breakthrough. Celebrated as a maverick music icon Tanita Tikaram was recently featured in the Venice Biennale exhibition by Sonia Boyce OBE RA and previously in the National Portrait Gallery captured by David Bennett. She returned to play at Glastonbury Festival in 2024 and as well as her acclaimed musical output over the years, Tanita has also developed a popular voice on social media, capturing the mood and zeitgeist of our times. Tanita Tikaram continued, “You never set out to make a sequel album but this just felt right. I see myself both now and then, frustrated, alienated and in part fearful of the future, they just manifested in different ways.” Tanita Tikaram shot to fame at just 18 years old with a unique string of hit songs that showcased her remarkable voice and reflected the independence of the late 1980’s/early 90’s, defying previous female music stereotypes and defining her in the eyes of music history. Twist In My Sobriety has racked up over 73 million streams.

Born from transition and exploring themes of leaving, arriving, coming together, and breaking up, ‘Love On Ice’ serves as an outlet to process, escape, and celebrate the challenges of a new life.

Johnny crafts exquisite dancefloor-focused pop—familiar yet unique, imbued with his own touch, a distinctive sensibility, and a knack for infectious hooks. The opener, ‘No Guilty Pleasures,’ sets the tone immediately as Johnny works his magic with a palette of synths, drum machines, picked guitar, and processed vocals. The title track, ‘Love On Ice,’ delivers a classic Italo-infused dancefloor bomb, featuring a driving synth bass line overlaid by hypnotic arpeggios. There is much here for the dancer, but ‘Love On Ice’ also ventures beyond the dance floor; the closing tracks ‘Ref 23’ and ‘Let's Find A Home’ are prime examples, both showcasing Johnny’s depth and range with their melancholic, mellow atmosphere.

The catchy 'Love On Ice' is worth the entry fee alone.

The production stands out with its electronic soul, a rich blend of synthesizers and deep basslines that pull the listener into an energetic and immersive atmosphere. It evokes a profound sense of connection, purpose, and clarity. Like a path that leads directly to the essence of existence, it conveys the feeling of being guided, inspired, and grounded all at once. It is a declaration of absolute trust, of love or devotion, where the journey and the destination fully coincide.

The new rework 25, offers us futuristic and electronic sounds with 70s and 80s disco influences, mixing with space and cinematic themes - very interesting!

Whilst side A is deep and moody, possessing the simmering heat of amapiano; side B is a bit more traditional with familiar jazz-funk progressions and licks; still powered by an electric backline. Tip top.

Born into a musical family in Compton, Ca., Loren Oden grew up in the church. This served as an incredible training ground for Oden, where he not only studied gospel, but secular greats like Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke. Being that those icons were bred in the church, Loren discovered sanctity in using his voice as a spiritual guide for love: a way to express his vulnerability, passion and struggles with handling reciprocal affection. Oden’s transparency, or in other words, connection to people is what makes him one of the most captivating vocalists of the modern era.

Oden’s fledgling career gained momentum as a prominent background vocalist for Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Kirk Franklin, Erykah Badu and Neyo, to name a few. Within a couple years, his long-time colleague, composer Adrian Younge, enlisted him as the lead vocalist for the cult classic, Black Dynamite, a blaxploitation parody theatrically released in 2009. This was the beginning of Oden becoming the melodious bedrock of Younge’s psychedelic sound.

Music has allowed him to transcribe his emotional tussles; it’s one of the reasons why Oden sings lead on most of Younge’s melancholy catalog, including but not limited, to The Midnight Hour, Something About April, and Marvel’s Luke Cage (scored alongside Ali Shaheed Muhammad). This is also the reason why Younge has decided to produce Loren’s debut LP, My Heart, My Love. Their collaborations have served as a means for Oden to not only harmonize his story, but to travel the world doing it with extensive touring. Loren has also written and recorded for many artists such as Snoop Dogg, Common, The Delfonics, Ghostface Killah, and Bilal.

Vocal and instrumental versions included. House music with a deep, soulful, RnB edge; nicely rough around the edges and drenched in emotion. There's some mighty fine sounds on show here - from the warm piano chords to the almost ASMR-beauty of the drums. Super detailed production lending itself to the live and organic end of the spectrum. A big one for fans of Detroit house - KDJ, Amp Fiddler, 3 Chairs etc. Really good and most definitely ESSENTIAL.

Adam Wise, you may know, is Fabulous Lover and this new record marks his first for Pete Herbert's Music for Swimming Pools. It's a mature mix of 80s-inspired Balearic electro-funk with a tropical twist straight from his Bali studio. This sun-soaked collection bridges sunset vibes and dancefloor energy with 'It's Lonely At The Top' a funky opener with a squelchy bassline and playful riffs. 'Elevate' douses you in 80s synth sounds that glow warm, and label head remixes into a more buoyant Balearic house beat. Elsewhere is the gentle swagger of 'Low Bounce' and lush synth disco buzz of 'Automatic.' Feel-good grooves, for sure.

                                                                                                It’s Always About Love

Based in the North of England. Ancient Infinity Orchestra is a joyous large ensemble that has communal music-making at the heart of everything they do. And that includes the melodies that flow out of their new album 'It’s Always About Love' which blossom with uplifting improvised contributions that circle around bandleader Ozzy Moysey’s beautiful songs; generous sonic gifts of healing and repair.

The 15-member ensemble has a distinctive line-up: two double basses, harp, saxophones, clarinets, violin, viola, cello, oboe, flutes, mandolin, congas, piano, drum kit, with bells, shakers and other percussion instruments scattered on the floor of live sets and recording sessions, ready for members to use whenever the spirit takes them. This orchestration, and the overlap between membership and friendship, gives Ancient Infinity Orchestra a sound that is at once expansive and intimate, earthy, and cosmic, constantly shifting yet grounded in shared intention. The attention to intention and their inviting sonic world connects the music to artists ranging from Alabaster dePlume to Gondwana label boss Matthew Halsall and draws on inspiration from the revered elders of so-called Spiritual jazz: Art Ensemble of Chicago, Pharoah Saunders, Coltrane (Alice and John), and Don Cherry.

The deep roots of Ancient Infinity Orchestra can be traced back to Ozzy’s childhood. After attending a Buddhist primary school in Brighton, where kids were encouraged to take part in improvised performances during assembly, Ozzy grew up in rural Lincolnshire. By the age of 11 he was teaching himself guitar and percussion and playing in his grandma’s church. At 17 he joined Boston Youth Jazz Orchestra, and then attended Leeds College of Music to study composition. It was here that in 2017 a group of musicians agreed to join seven-hour rehearsals, twice a week, in the shared house that became Ancient Infinity Orchestra’s first HQ. Gradually, the Orchestra became a grounding force in the emerging jazz scene in Leeds.

Their debut, 'River of Light', was a vibrant celebration of togetherness recorded in three days and released on Gondwana in 2023. A Maida Vale session for Jamie Cullum’s BBC Radio 2 show brought them to a broader audience, as did bookings at North Sea Jazz Festival and We Out Here. Their music can be described as melody-driven improvised music, made by people who are deep into different types of traditional music, including folk, jazz and classical. “The tunes are a vessel,” Lead Ozzy Moysey says, “with everyone doing their thing. It exists so that my friends can be musically fulfilled.”

On top of the musicality, communality, and expression, 'It’s Always About Love' is also a study in simplicity, stripping away excess to uncover something pure, warm, and human. Highlights include ‘Chant for Don Cherry’, which he describes as a ‘campfire style’ thank you to Cherry himself and which features high-colour piano lines and gently propellant guitars. “His beautiful, organic music-making deeply affected me. He had a direct link to the magic and he left so much music for us.” ‘The Seeker’ features intricate arrangements where a chorus of voices swoop around the instrumentalists before dropping into an irresistible groove – one for those who loved Floating Points’ collaboration with Pharoah Saunders. Penultimate tune ‘Old Friends’ is a celebration of communality and connection, with players and singers allowing joy to permeate every aspect of the song, with collective whoops and impromptu applause kept from the original recording for us to revel in.

Ancient Infinity Orchestra is a gathering of voices, traditions, and energies converging into something timeless. Their music is a journey inward and outward, always reaching toward the universal.

The final word, though, goes to Ozzy. “There is a need for love and connectedness. You pour the love you have into the music and people listening can feel it”

Jonathan Sings! is the fourth album by American band Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, and was released in 1983. Richman emerges as an incurable romantic on Jonathan Sings!, an infectiously sunny effort which stands among his finest LPs. Recorded after a long layoff with a new Modern Lovers lineup, Richman sounds thoroughly recharged, even extolling the simple virtues of "This Kind of Music"; among his other enthusiasms are kids; "Not Yet Three" and travel; "Give Paris One More Chance", but his primary focus here is romance, "You're the One for Me," "That Summer Feeling" and "Someone to Hold Me" are positively joyous. NME ranked it at number 19 in their "Albums of the Year" list for 1984.

When Soft Cell played a spectacular, sold-out show before 20,000 fans at The O2 in September 2018, the London concert was seen by all and sundry as a grand finale. It had been billed as One Night: One Final Time, leaving devotees in no doubt that a duo who had done so much to define the sound of British electronic pop in the 1980s were saying hello to wave one last, emotional goodbye. At least that had been the idea. Singer Marc Almond and instrumentalist Dave Ball had originally gone their separate ways in 1984 before reuniting for two years in the early 2000s to make a new album, Cruelty Without Beauty. The intention at The O2 had been to draw a line under a rollercoaster ride that had seen Soft Cell secure three Top Ten albums and six Top Ten singles, including 1981’s all-conquering Tainted Love, while setting a template for synth acts from the Pet Shop Boys to Years & Years.

But such was the reaction – and the sense of purpose the pair rediscovered onstage – that the big adieu ultimately turned out to be a brilliant new dawn. The reality is that Marc and Dave bring the best out of one another as performers, both onstage and in the studio, and the sense that there was still plenty of mileage left in their partnership was inescapable. The latest fruits of a bond that was first forged in the art department of Leeds Polytechnic in 1977 were in the shape of a new studio album, *Happiness Not Included, and a series of live dates in the UK and the US that saw the band treat fans to a mixture of new material, classic hits and their 1981 debut album Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, which was played in its entirety for the first time to mark its 40th anniversary.

Was built to be a DJ set closer. “Human” reworks our Icelandic queen into a swung, deep house tune. “Pop Off” takes French disco, chops it up and lays fat synth basslines over it.

Carli skilfully navigates from raw UK hardcore bonkerisms to the crisp rhythmic pulses of modern-day dancehall, always upholding a vibe that's at once futuristic and reverent of club music’s storied past.
Filled with intricate production techniques and an irresistible sense of joy, Sea Of Love showcases Carli’s unique ability to merge styles without losing coherence or authenticity. This is club music crafted by someone who’s not only seen it all from the booth, but also been on the dancefloor himself, resulting in tracks that feel deeply personal yet universally appealing.
With Sea Of Love, Carli firmly establishes himself as a visionary solo artist, proving that after decades of shaping the sound of Stockholm’s underground, his best is still ahead.

Katie Boo was born in a small coal-mining town in Ohio and was raised by the radio before moving to Brooklyn, NY and changing her name to Kate Mattison. The electricity of the city combined with her love of the heartland's soul music soon inspired Kate to start her band 79.5.

He changed his name to Mark Everett and then again to the letter “E” and formed the band EELS before deciding to go back to Bronco in 2025.

While listening to radio station KCRW late one night in his adoptive town of Los Angeles, Bronco heard a song by 79.5 that he liked very much. When he was soon asked to make a playlist for Radio L'envie he put the song on it. This led to a verbal dialogue between the two artists that turned into a musical dialogue of ideas and songs sent back and forth between Brooklyn, NY and Los Feliz, CA.

It’s an album of unity — with each other, with the listeners, in the grooves — and that’s indisputable. “We do have a purpose as a band to our audience: we're giving people joy,” says guitarist/vocalist Jules Crommelin. “I see it as spirit, and it’s an incredibly powerful thing.” Includes 'Safeandsound' & 'Yougotmefeeling'.

'Camel Night-Rate (Clear To The Ocean)' kicks off with a great blend of chug, dubby low ends and shimmering synth work while 80s chords light it up with good vibes. A Be.Lanuit remix is more serene and stripped back for late night dreaming then 'Love's New Meridian' sinks into a melancholic and downbeat world of sunset charm with wispy pads. The Coyote Mellow remix reworks it as a gently breaking wave on a moon-lit beach. Classy tackle all round.

The pick for me here has to be the Johnny Jewel-y thrum of 'Love's New Meridian', but they're all worth the entry price alone.

The major label debut for Evan Dando’s Lemonheads from 1990, following three “ramshackle punk” (©Select magazine) albums for Taang! Pivoted on a more approachable set of sweet melodies still rife with punky spirit. A light and dark album, polished in the arrangements, nodding to the excess of American culture (Manson and Gummi Bears), hectoring Reagan’s drug laws (‘Lil’ Seed’), riffing on everyday life. Remastered single LP. “Like Hüsker Dü when they were at their most ferocious or REM when they were at their most Byrdsian hypnotic.” NME

Lp only before, this track makes its way to a 45 for the first time, super feel good soulful number. Uptempo with a glorious vocal, this one is built for the discerning dancefloor.

Side B: The Royal Travelers - “Jesus Hold My Hand”
raw, soulful and defining of the era. Rarer than rare and never before sold online, it’s a heavy dose of funky gospel oozing with breaky drums and soul.

Fully licensed and remastered, this 7-inch comes housed in a custom Celestial Echo / Divine Disco series sleeve with a faithful reproduction of the HOB label.

Founded in 1956 by Mrs. Carmen Murphy, HOB wasn't just a label — it was a beacon. From the basement of her beauty salon on Detroit’s West Side, she ran one of the most important Black-owned gospel imprints of the 20th century. At a time when both the music industry and the country were stacked against her, Mrs. Murphy built a sanctuary for soul — a Black woman-owned business and creative hub in volatile times. 2023’s 'Dancing On The Edge' was quickly beloved by those who stumbled upon it, earning high praise from publications like Pitchfork & The Line Of Best Fit, who deemed it a “remarkable, endlessly rewarding debut.” His second album, 'New Threats From The Soul', reckons mightily with the perplexities of human efficacy and agency in an absurd and debased world. This probably sounds hopelessly plodding and severe. It is not—not remotely. It’s a shit-ton of fun. The songs are all earwigs; the arrangements genuinely thrilling, enlivening efforts by the crackerjacks that comprise the sprawling Roadhouse Band. Each trip through the record reveals more of the depth and breadth and tangle of its tapestry.

Across 'New Threats…', Ryan manages near-rhymes that a hundred years’ worth of monkeys labouring at Chat GPT-enabled typewriters couldn’t achieve: “bromeliad” and “necrophiliac”; “urinal” and “de Chirico.” Kinky Friedman lamented that people thought his funny songs were sad and his sad songs were funny, when they were both simultaneously. Like the Kinkster, Ryan can make you laugh through a lump in your throat. In his formidable crew of harmony singers there are four of the most gifted lyricists & vocalists to currently walk among us—Catherine Irwin, Will Oldham, Lou Turner, Myriam Gendron— which testifies to the profound heft of his writing (these folks don’t often sign up to sing pap).

'New Threats From The Soul' is a masterclass in reducing the sublime to the prosaic, immensity to infinitesimally, and vice versa (the trick can only work both ways). Everything in our universe is essentially flotsam or jetsam, rubbish heaps of fragments and shards. We, especially, are jerry-rigs of bubblegum and driftwood, inconsistencies and incoherencies, dead dreams and necrophagous hopes, “mismeasurements between the place where [we are] and the place where [we] could have been,” although somehow not—miracle of miracles—bereft of simple joys, as Davis sings on today’s single.

The record functions in parallel with Kafka’s winking dictum that there is an infinite amount of hope in the universe, just not for us. 'New Threats…' suggests that maybe, just maybe, something like redemption is possible, but only once we’re entirely emptied out and hawked in toto down at Walden Pawn.

Barry says: Organic sounding flickers of acoustic guitar and snappy percussion underpin the beautifully harmonised vocals and swooning slide guitar. While there are moments of thoughtful minimalism, it merely offsets the jubilant melodic intensity of the rest of the LP. Beautifully uplifting and summery sounds throughout.

'Love is Here' captures Sanders at a pivotal moment. After parting ways with Impulse! in 1974, he entered a period of reorientation. No longer tethered to label expectations, Sanders embraced full artistic freedom. His performance in Paris reflects a shift from the fiery energy of his early free jazz years to a more spiritual, cosmic voice - without abandoning his raw intensity.

Established in 1990 by Derrick Thompson, Soiree has long focused on the deeper side of house and late night rhythms across over 70 releases. Never making a shout out about it, the label might not of garnered the kudos it deserves while laying down a tight standard of cosmic sonic delight.

Featuring in the main on Thompson’s own Drivetrain releases, his production skills are deployed on this one time project. Written and sung by Montaze Armstrong, alongside the smooth accompaniment of Merchon Bower, the production is ubiquitous Drivetrain. His main mix sets the scene; hats proffering swing and impetus while bass and chords underpin the vocal interplay to skyward perfection.

Once again the label conjoins a latter day contemporary and admired producer to offer their own retake and who better than the essential producer of all things deep, Nail. A huge influence on the label during the formative years of (free party) house music’s ascent, his recent return has been widely welcomed. His mix is full of respect and perfect pitch, adding his distinctive low-end rumble, hypnotic hats, skips, loop and shake.

To close, it’s all about the legend that is Scott Grooves. Nothing more needs be said, his 9-minute ride show jazz roots worn firmly. Rhodes, claps, piano and vocal are all that’s needed. Loose, funky and soulful from a true master.

'Share The Love Devine' is a masterful tweak of an easy listening classic that takes flight on mellifluous synth ripples and gentle breaking waves with a carefree vocal shimmering about the mix, and it's all taken from one of rare groove's most admired writers and producers. 'Style City' is another horizontal flex with underlapping rhythms and pulse-slowing drums.

Cataloged as LAR010, this essential piece of Chicago house history has been lovingly remastered and pressed to wax, reaffirming its legacy as a cornerstone of the genre.

Produced by Sherman Rogers and Darren Brandon of the acclaimed Black Ice Productions, “Feel Love” is a quintessential expression of the raw, soulful energy that defined the Windy City’s deep house scene in the early '90s. Blending hypnotic rhythms, warm synths, and David Brown’s emotive vocal delivery, the track captured the hearts of underground dancefloors from Chicago to the world.

Adding to the release's weight is an all-star lineup of remixers who need no introduction. Ralphi Rosario, one of house music’s original architects and a member of the legendary Hot Mix 5, brings his signature peak-hour intensity and timeless groove. Derrick Carter & Chris Nazuka, operating under their cult alias Red Nail, deliver a raw, stripped-back interpretation, dripping with analog grit and deep, jacking flavor.

This reissue isn’t just a nod to nostalgia - it’s a powerful reminder of house music’s roots and enduring spirit. Whether rediscovered or experienced for the first time, “Feel Love” stands tall as a classic slice of Chicago house, as relevant on today’s dancefloors as it was over 30 years ago.

Debut single from Manchester band Westside Cowboy on Nice Swan. Riding a thrilling lo-fi boxcar tuned to the melodic precision of Teenage Fanclub and held together with the slacker cool of Pavement, for most bands this would be enough, but not for Westside Cowboy. Just when you think you have them pinned, they career the entire thing into a brick wall of country, trad and early harmony-coated, major-key rock’n’roll. They call this process ‘Britainicana’.

Freshly signed to indie tastemakers Nice Swan (Chalk, Sports Team, Pip Blom) and teaming up with Mercury Music Prize winner Lewis Whiting of English Teacher on production duties, debut single ‘I’ve Never Met Anyone I Thought I Could Really Love (Until I Met You)’, starts with a frenetic caterwaul of the band name. It’s a flag in the sand moment.

A territorial statement. Rhythmic, rattling drums turn into a three-chord assault, with its crackling guitars soon igniting the combustible, chorus vocals of enigmatic co-vocalist Aoife Anson O’Connell.

Even Spin read an SSLYBY blog, downloaded their music and declared the Missouri band “could succeed The Shins as the band that will change your life."

Recorded in the attic and living room of guitarist Will Knauer's home, 'Broom', SSLYBY's debut record, is an expertly crafted indie pop gem.

Originally, SSLYBY had a simple ambition: to make the “Local Releases” bin at CD Warehouse. However, 'Broom' turned into a classic rock ‘n’ roll record -- the kind where pop perfectionism meets studio experimentation and each track flows effortlessly. Seemingly innocuous pop songs are molded by happy accidents of fate -- sometimes involving unexplained swarming sounds and doubled drums tracks --into the warm, ethereal tracks that made the album into a sensation.

Originally self-released by the band to sell at shows, 'Broom' was remastered and released via Polyvinyl in late 2006.

To celebrate 20 years of SSLYBY’s Broom, the essential title is now available on a fresh pressing on clear with red, pink, yellow & green splatter vinyl — matching the iconic cover.

This one, curated by Monsieur Van Pratt, is a collection of all-Mexican talent and the man himself also features. He opens up with 'Without U', which is a sensuous deep disco percolator, before Vincent Galgo's '(La Otra) Vida' brings some steamy Latin energy to percussive grooves and Van Pratt then has a second go with 'Dumi' featuring Spanish vocals and colourful horns over a rolling bassline. Ele Cinco's 'Limited Love' is a blissed out and late night charmer, then Cinema Paradisco shuts down with nice squelchy synth bass and undulating drums on 'Track Sin Nombre.'

Kurt and Luke were admirers of one another after meeting on MySpace years ago, and this release highlights both of their distinctive musical styles. “classic love” was written by Luke, “hit of the highlife” by Kurt, “slow talkers ‘22” is a re-work from Kurt’s 2008 debut album and “wildflower” is a Beach House cover.

It's very laid back, as you'd expect but swimming with beautifully penned melodies and clever instrumental interludes.

Love Challenge kicks things off with uplifting strings and a strutting rhythm section, while Lover Man leans into sultry territory with smoky vocals and deep, late-night vibes. On the flip, Doin' It delivers a funk-soaked workout full of punchy horns and tight percussion, before Wear Out wraps things up with raw energy, filtered bass, and a relentless groove. A no-filler vinyl from one of Germany's finest selectors crafted for serious dancefloor heat.
