Daybreakers return with another one for the deep heads, welcoming Chicago legend Vick Lavender to the fold for Essential Traxx Vol. 1. A musician, producer and DJ with over three decades in the game, Vick’s music lives in that space where house, jazz, and soul connect.

Back in the 90s, Vick came up alongside Glenn Underground and Boo Williams as part of the influential Strictly Jaz Unit, helping shape a sound that still echoes through dancefloors today. In the years since, he’s built his own world through Sophisticado — music rooted in live musicianship, deep feeling, and that unmistakable Chicago soul. It’s real house music.

On the A side, 1.4.4.5 (Where It Started) lays down that signature Chicago pulse — rolling percussion, Rhodes chords, and basslines that unfold like a live jam. Deep, patient, the real Vick Lavender sound.

Flip it for Tiano Nuevo featuring Spike Rebel, a lush meeting of house, Latin, and jazz sensibilities. Guitars, percussion, and keys come together, the kind of tune that keeps a dark room or a sunrise session dancing.

Essential Traxx Vol. 1 captures what Daybreakers is all about. Deeper than deep house.

The L.O.V.E. Song (From Chicago To New York)

South Street International return with the house goodness once again, reissuing Vick Lavender’s house anthem “The L.O.V.E. Song (From Chicago To New York)”. Originally self-released on his label Sophisticado Recordings by the Chicago producer and musician, this is one of those timeless deep house gems that’s become an underrated weapon for discerning DJs worldwide.

Lavender – known for his work with Glenn Underground as part of the legendary Strictly Jaz Unit – has been shaping deep and soulful house for over three decades, blending world music, jazz fusion, R&B and more into a sound that’s both spiritual and deeply rooted in the dancefloor. Here he brings the best of both cities into one track: the soulful musicality of Chicago, the cosmopolitan polish of New York. Warm Rhodes, fluid percussion, and vocal refrains ride over a groove that’s equally at home in a dark basement session or a sunrise terrace set.

With originals changing hands for eye-watering prices on Discogs, this official reissue makes this must have record accessible again. Lovingly remastered by The Bakehouse and presented on South Street International, This record is a must-have for fans of deep house, and anyone who believes in the eternal conversation between Chicago and New York.

We're Having A Barn Dance

Meet Lavender. This winsome duo, consisting of Oskar Rice and Adam Jackson. Their output so far has been confined to a debut EP which came out right in the middle of the lockdown and another couple of singles that bring their tally so far to less than thirty minutes of music. But that’s about to change with their debut album, 'We’re Having A Barn Dance', a significant step forward and brilliant distillation of all that made those first releases pop so dramatically. This album is the story of one tumultuous year of living, loving (and the falling out thereof). The songwriting is a diary of an eventful 12 months.

“We had a big chat about what this all means to us,” explains Oskar, “And we boiled it down to this: it’s about love, but not necessarily romantic love. It’s about all of those competing emotions and how, if you love one thing, it might detract from loving something else.” 'We’re Having A Barn Dance' succeeds and surpasses the duo’s aims. It’s an album that is manifestly ambitious both in its production sound and as songwriters clearly finding greater confidence in their future pathway. As one fan commented on YouTube: “You go. You go and be great. With your Lavender.” Hear, hear.

    Lowlight:Slowlight

Lavender, an emerging producer duo, explores the question: What if Bon Iver were produced by J Dilla?

'lowlight:slowlight' is a love song born from spontaneity and experimentation. It began with a rough demo, which was sampled into a beat. Excited by the result, they rushed to their old studio, layering guitars, bass, and vocals over the beat in a session where everything fell effortlessly into place. This marked their first venture into sampling their own work, with the original demo forming the track’s intro before evolving into the post-sampling section. Rooted in raw energy, the song captures a pivotal moment of creative growth for the duo.

This exclusive 7" release marks Lavender's first venture into vinyl and includes a hidden gem on the B-side: 'flight2brisbane (demo),' an unreleased, physical-only track.
