    A Place To Bury Strangers

    See Through You

A Place to Bury Strangers defund post-punk orthodoxy with the most audacious and varied songwriting of their career on their sixth album, See Through You' on Oliver Ackermann's label, Dedstrange. Following up on 2021"s highly acclaimed Hologram EP, the rebooted lineup' vocalist/guitarist Oliver Ackermann plus drummer/vocalist Sandra Fedowitz and bassist John Fedowitz (both of Ceremony East Coast)' delivers an overclocked set of futuristic electronic punk music encoded with punishing industrial rhythms, swirling voltage-starved guitars and unclassifiable auditory annihilation. Across thirteen tracks recorded in seclusion throughout the nihilistic absurdity of the coronavirus pandemic, See Through You is proof-positive that the group hailed as 'The Loudest Band in New York' is still finding new ways to push the needle deeper in the red.

Fans all over the globe know: Oliver Ackermann always brings surprises. The singer and guitarist of New York City’s A Place To Bury Strangers has been delighting and astonishing his audience for close to two decades, combining post-punk, noise-rock, shoegaze, psychedelia, and avant-garde music in startling and unexpected ways. As the founder of Death By Audio, creator of signal-scrambling stomp boxes and visionary instrument effects, he’s exported that excitement and invention to other artists who plug into his gear and blow minds. In concert, A Place To Bury Strangers is nothing short of astounding — a shamanistic experience that bathes listeners in glorious sound, crazed left turns, transcendent vibrations, real-time experiments, brilliant breakthroughs.

And just as many of his peers in the New York City underground seem to be slowing down and settling in, Ackermann’s creativity is accelerating. He’s launched a label of his own: Dedstrange, dedicated to advancing the work of sonic renegades worldwide. He’s also refreshed the group’s lineup, adding bassist John Fedowitz and drummer Sandra Fedowitz, and the band has never sounded more current, or more courageous, or more accessibly melodic. The Hologram EP is the first release from the new lineup — and the first on Dedstrange — and it’s no overstatement to say that the reaction has been ecstatic. Ghettoblaster wrote that the band’s racket outpaced everything to emerge from New York City in the past decade. Brooklyn Vegan praised Ackermann’s “terrific, emotive” singing, and lauded the group’s recent commitment to foregrounding its melodies and lyrics. Pitchfork, Flood, AllMusic: they’ve all lined up to call Hologram an example of the best work of a tireless band with a deep discography and an unquenchable drive to create challenging, unprecedented music. A Place To Bury Strangers release their highly anticipated sixth album See Through You February 4, 2022 on their newly formed label Dedstrange.

Barry says: A thoroughly blazing, visceral return to their incendiary best for 'See Through You' from A Place To Bury Strangers. While 2018's 'Pinned' was undeniably brilliant, it had a little less of the industrial atmospherics and clashing, grinding groove that this has. A wonderful, soaringly heavy behemoth.

      Nu Guinea

      The Tony Allen Experiments

Nu Genea née Nu Guinea joined the ranks of Comet's Afrobeat Makers series back in 2016 following a pair of top 12"s on Early Sounds and Tartelet. Now this was a couple of years before the Neapolitans became underground megastars with their "Nuova Napoli" LP, so got sadly slept on by some. Luckily, there's now a second bite at the cherry, so don't laze away this time. By re-working the original drum patterns from Afrobeat master Tony Allen, the duo created a compilation of super groovy tracks in their typically voluminous
electronic jazz-funk style. Hints of Mediterranean house meet spacey gurgles, soaring synth lines top shuffling rhythms and the whole thing is cool as fuck. Essential tackle for fans of either Afrobeat or that Naples sound.

The Lounge Lizard Sessions - Signed Edition

The Lounge Lizard Sessions is a collection of rearranged compositions more suited to socially distanced and intimate performances. The project evolved from a series of stripped-back shows, the band falling in love with their new-found approach and finding themselves wanting to dive into their music and explore its sonic depth via additional instrumentation and experimentation.

“When everything went to shit with the Covid pandemic, we realised that if we wanted to continue playing live shows we’d have to drastically change the sound and really roll down the amps,” lead singer Thomas Haywood explains.

“We played a few shows at a local hotspot for the modern beatniks of Manchester called the Rose & Monkey Hotel. Musically, it’s the most enjoyment I’ve ever gotten out of playing a collection of songs. The whole thing became a project of ours, and we gradually began increasing the depth of the pieces by bringing in keys and other various parts.

“These songs, these arrangements, became our way of getting back to our audience and once again revelling in the communion that we feel when we play on stage. This record was recorded in one take at Parr St. Studios in Liverpool, a place we’ve wanted to work out of for some time. Listening back, as far as keepsakes or souvenirs go… it feels pretty special.”

        Alex Rex

Singing drummers may now be in vogue, but very few combine the masterful musicianship, vivid lyrics and expressive vocals one experiences with Alex Rex. In fact, few musicians have a CV as impressive as band leader Alex Neilson. He’s drummed with some of the most eclectic musicians of the international underground; from Bonnie "Prince" Billy to Shirley Collins, Jandek and Current 93. All on top of a 10-year stint with his own critically acclaimed psych-folk outfit, Trembling Bells. Paradise is his fourth album as Alex Rex. Whilst the first three were shrouded in loss and loathing, Paradise is a different beast. In many ways Paradise marks a fresh start for the Glasgow-based polymath. Reunited with ex-Trembling Bells vocalist Lavinia Blackwall for the first time since the band’s demise - Marco Rea (Euros Childs) and regular collaborator Rory Haye make up the rest of the Paradise party, with guest vocalist Kacy Lee Anderson (Kacy & Clayton) blowing a seductive smoke-ring through one track. Paradise introduces us to a new and uncharacteristically playful side of Alex Rex.

Many of the songs on Paradise were written in early lockdown with no opportunity to rehearse, which also happens to be Neilson’s preferred method. “Choosing talented people to record 13 songs that they've never heard before with a 3-take limit…” he trills. “…to my mind this captures the songs at a vital tipping point - where parts are being discovered for the first time by musician and listener alike.”. “As a songwriter I have felt an increasing certainty that I must have something important to say. Some illumination on the basic nature of things. Some cue card where aphorism and aphrodisiac meet” explains Neilson. He used to look to landscapes to derive inspiration, attempting to render a sonic description of the heart-flutters felt while walking through majestic nature. Nowadays, almost certainly induced the introspective nature of a life in lockdown, Neilson has turned the telescope in on himself. “Looking to internal landscapes for creative sustenance.

Music For Dreams Summer Sessions 2021 LP (RSD21 EDITION)

This is the third year featuring tracks that have never been released on vinyl & exclusive tracks (never released) exclusive for this release.

First vinyl pressing of this ultra rare & killer, French post-punk tape (talking £200 rare here :) ) from 1985, on the essential Camisole label.

Limited and remastered from original tapes. Available for the first time on vinyl.

Insert with band history and unpublished pictures.

After the repress of their single "Eyes / Morning Rain", Camisole Records  reissue the entirity of Coldreams tape  "Crazy Night".

Recorded in 1984-1985 by a gang of young students passionate about post-punk this record represents the culmination of the band first period.

Haunted lyrics and melancholia were already the basics of their sound and from "Don't Cry" to "Crazy Night / Burning Passion" it's difficult to imagine that they were only 18 to 19 years old at that time.

"Bulbs and Bubbles" and "Turn the Button" show their pop appeal which definitely takes them apart from their contemporaries and all-around gloomy feelings infuse these six tracks which unveils another part of Coldreams history...

Archeo come through with another stunning relic dusted down from a forgotten corner of Italian music culture. Fulvio Maras, Alfredo Posillipo and Luca Proietti originally released Sfumature back in 1992, and it's quite the spectacle to behold. Minimal synths provide an underlay for the tense sustained pads and Maras' tumbling percussion on "Panico Iniziale", while nimble hand drums spiral around woozy brass and delicate chimes on "Trombe Di Alfredo". The mood gets seductively dreamy on "Amori" thanks in no small part to the double bass playing at its core. Highly accomplished, inquisitive and utterly satisfying music occupying its own unique space.

Frédéric Gassita discovered music at the age of five. In 1977 he left Gabon to study in France. His tutors in France spotted the talent of the young man and decided to enroll him at the Conservatory of Music in Châteauroux, where he learned classical music, composition, and perfected his practice of piano, bass and guitar.

Back in Gabon in 1983, Frédéric decided to form the band "Surprise" with his longtime friend Jean-Jean Gateau. His musical influences – his parents introduced him to a lot of music: Afro-Cuban music, Jazz, Soul or RnB. - forged the sound of the band as well as a strong inspiration from the US Funk that invaded the radio waves of Gabon. The Guitarist Célestin Assélé Bongo joined the band and provided them the necessary means to record an album. Florence Nang Ekomye, a talented self-taught jazz singer, is immediately recruited, being the voice of Surprise.

Benefiting from the unique recording conditions of Studio N'Koussou in Libreville (set-up by Patience Dabany in the early 80s), one of the handful studios to use a Digital 48 Tracks recorder at the time, the young musicians had the strong desire to get the perfect sound: "It took us almost a year to finish the album. We were young and we wanted to do the best we could so we dithered a lot on the choice of songs ..." The result is a sensational production, the use of synthesizers is slamming and the charm of Florence’s voice makes the recording quite unique.

"Beleive Me" is an outlier considering what was being done in Gabon at the same time. Indeed, the vast majority of small Gabonese bands were still mimicking the sound of James Brown in cabarets… The record unfortunately did not meet the success the band expected and seemed to have never really benefited from a real marketing. A year after the release of "Beleive Me", Frédéric flew to the U.S. and joined the Berklee College of Music in Boston where he studied for six years; the band never recorded together again.

Totally unknown until recently, Surprise, primarily an early work from the great composer, still sounds fresh and crisp and we hope it will now get the attention it did not get upon release.

            STAFF COMMENTS

Patrick says: Sublime groove-led music here from Africa's Atlantic coast, as Gabon's Surprise fuse reggae, disco, jazz and boogie into a shimmering digital delight, somehow overlooked on its mid 80s release.

Following on from his beautiful release on Claremont 56 in 2018, Alter Leo aka Denis Leonovich, takes a different approach for this new EP on the Kinfolk imprint and produces a storming world infused 4-tracker.

"Cabriodelic" is a mid-tempo march that utilises sublime keys, sci-fi ethics and military style drums to incredible effect. "On The Way" keeps the drums heavy but ventures into a deeper sub tropical technoid-esque landscape.

"Tour De L'Afrique" is exactly that, a jaunty vibe that buzzes and rolls through an unknown afro-centric land. "In Sands" finishes off the package nicely with an acidic heavy Moroccan spiced percussive roller.

Essential music for the truly tropical dancefloors of the world.

It's been fifteen years since Big Stick's last proper record release. That's an even longer period of time than some winged cicada bugs take to rise from the deep depths of earth and sing us their noisy repertoire of songs. Big Stick's dynamic duo of John Gill and Yanna Trance are pleased to finally have a new LP's worth of material to share. This new album is simply titled LP. It's a long playing collection of Big Stick selections cultivated over several years.

This release is a joint effort between Big Stick's new Drag Racing Underground record label and Forte Music Distribution. Gill and Trance performed most of the vocals and instrumentation on the album's fifteen tracks. Some of Big Stick's musician friends appear on select songs. Much of the recording was done at their own studio, using a vintage Otari MX-70 16-track analog tape machine. Big Stick are self-produced. Gill plays guitar and keyboard. Trance performs percussion, bass, and keyboards. Both of the duo write and compose.

Big Stick's new LP includes a retrospective collage of Big Stick photographs and images, along with photos of Gill's and Trance's artwork as well as liner notes describing curious facts and trivia related to the duo and the featured songs. This long playing release is available on 12" vinyl & CD. Both formats include a special bonus "SOME OF BEST OF BIG STICK" EP CD with ten 'classic' Big Stick tracks.

Some appreciation of the guest musicians who've contributed to this new release...Fred Schneider of the B52s has long expressed a desire to record with Big Stick. John and Yanna have always admired Fred's unique vocal approach, so when they penned "HOT SAUCE" it seemed like an appropriate time to bring in Fred. Another admired vocalist is Groovie Mann from My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult. In the mid-90's Big Stick toured with the industrial pioneers. Big Stick wrote "VENOMOUS VOODOO PRINCESS" as a duet for Groovie and Yanna. The track also features longtime friend Tom Timko on bari sax. Timko also plays on "MARLIN IN A MAIDEN'S DRESS." Tom's credits include gigs with Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder, among others. John and Yanna have an endearing friendship with Jerry A of Poison Idea. Jerry contributes vocals on "DARLING RAVEN." Drummer Johnny Kelly of Type O Negative notoriety is a like-minded hot rodding friend who hangs out at the local drags with Big Stick. Kelly handles the drums on "HOOCHIE EXPRESS." Other musicians featured on selected tracks include “first lady of sass brass” Paula Henderson on bari sax, “the man of sensual trombone” Dave Smoota Smith, Satoru Ohashi and Alicia Rau on torrid trumpets, Jim Sorensen of El Muchacho on percussion, John Thompson on bass guitar - and last but certainly not least, Shawn Banks and Mark Lopez finessed their aesthetically accelerating fingers on bongos.

            STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: A brilliantly clashing, rawkous collection, rich with gritty distorted riffage and snapping, snarling vocals in classic Big Stick fashion. Walls of guitar noise and throbbing chug meet headfirst in a sweaty basement to great effect, AND it comes with a 'Best Of Big Stick' sampler CD! What's not to love?

Tasty reissue of Steve Elliott’s first album - "True Image" (1981). After failing to find musicians with the same direction and devotion to music he had acquired, Steve taught himself to play eleven different instruments and move from hometown of Pasadena, California to Denver Colorado.

Eager to express his musical ability, Steve became a DJ on KDKO radio, and would then go on to compose, arrange and perform "True Image" on September 20th 1981 with a collection of drum machines, synthesizers, and contributing musicians on Rhodes, flute, guitar and vocals.

Mr. Elliott’s philosophy is 'You hold in your hand a dream, a dream come true by a man whose only objective was to express the love he contains, the love we all contain within through music.'

            R. Stevie Moore

This guy again. The Godfather of DIY home recording. Hundreds of self-released albums over the past 50 years. Dozens issued on countless indie labels since 1976. Pop craftsman, crafty grandpop, notorious curmudgeon. Blah blah blah blah blah. Most recently teamed with Jason Falkner on the album Make It Be.

Since R. Stevie can't make a decent living on his music, he's trying to accomplish the task in the Afterlife. This album is an upgrade from the lo-fi, damaged-equipment home recording process for which RSM has become legendary. With a career-long sweep, R. Stevie took some of his best home-recorded lo-fi songs and re-recorded them with full-studio sparkle. All recordings were made in the past 15 years, with tracks captured in five U.S. states. Some compositions date from the 1970s to the 1990s, and there's a few newer tunes. The album lacks one thing: filler. Lou Reed famously said about his final Velvet Underground album: "I gave them an album loaded with hits," then he walked away. Afterlife is R. Stevie's Loaded—an album full of hits. He's walking away with a cane, a bum knee, and cataracts.

Afterlife was compiled and produced by Irwin Chusid (who oversees the musical estates of Sun Ra, Raymond Scott, and others). Chusid, a WFMU DJ since 1975, has been a compatriot of RSM since they met in 1978 after R. Stevie relocated to New Jersey from his native Nashville (to which he returned in 2010). It's often been pointed out that RSM's daddy Bob played bass with Elvis. But we won't dwell on that here.

SHINY AND OH SO BRIGHT, VOL. 1 / LP: NO PAST. NO FUTURE. NO SUN. (Black Friday 2018)

Formed in Chicago, IL in 1988, The Smashing Pumpkins released their heralded debut album Gish in 1991 and found mainstream success with 1993’s 4x multi-platinum Siamese Dream and 1995’s 10x multi-platinum Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Following the release of Adore, Machina/The Machines of God, and Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music, the group’s original lineup disbanded in 2000. Singer/guitarist Billy Corgan reformed the group in 2005, enlisting various collaborators for Zeitgeist, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, Oceania, and Monuments to an Elegy.

                Francis Coppieters

Piano Viberations LP (THE KPM Reissues)

2018 Reissue – Remastered From Original Tapes, Carefully Reproduced Original Art.

Piano Viberations’ “small group jazz featuring piano and vibes with rhythm” makes for a gorgeous Francis Coppieters showcase, surely one of Belgium’s best-kept musical secrets. Released in 1975, and arguably the most low-key of the KPM and Themes records we’re re-issuing, this is easily our current favourite.

“The Open Highway” is the appropriately-named opener, and immediately demonstrates Coppieters’ dexterous interplay between piano and vibes in assured, joyous fashion. The shuffling bossa of “Sales Notes” is a jaw-dropper, well-mined by samplers with impeccable taste. The mellow head-nod drum-break that is “Funky Chimes” brilliantly demonstrates Coppieters’ quiet majestic side with its slow-motion funk rhythm with beautifully reflective notes throughout.

The upbeat and joyful “Cross Talk” closes out side A. Vibes and piano are definitely at the heart of the arrangement here. The quick cut movement of “Piano In Transit” is another gem, driven principally by piano but those vibes along for more than just the ride. On a more gentle, elegiac note, “To Shearing With Love” is a warm, slow, romantic piece in the style of George Shearing. It’s plaintive and sublime.

Piano Viberations is one of those rare library records the original description of which makes as much sense now as it did when it was first released. Piano and vibes with rhythm indeed.
As with all ten re-issues, the audio for Piano Viberations comes from the original analogue tapes and has been remastered for vinyl by Be With regular Simon Francis. We’ve taken the same care with the sleeves, handing the reproduction duties over to Richard Robinson, the current custodian of KPM’s brand identity.

2018 Reissue – Remastered From Original Tapes, Carefully Reproduced Original Art.

Released in 1976, Distinctive Themes / Race To Achievement is legendary arranger Nick Ingman exploring the two distinct ideas of “impressive themes varying in style from ‘Basie to Elgar’” and “a study in the pressure and rewards of achievement”.

Distinctive Themes is a veritable indulgence of variously-tempoed, full orchestra, big band workouts, from relaxed swing to more propulsive themes. The progressively building “Expanding Markets” is a true highlight, with its rolling pianos, contemplative electric guitar solos and moody horns over skipping beats. The dramatic “Against The Odds” is another stand-out.

Race To Achievement is all rugged funk with stabbing chords and strutting horns and it’s probably our favourite side. Of course we have to acknowledge the fantastic “Tense Preparation”, sampled by Prince Paul and Dan The Automator for Handsome Boy Modeling School’s seminal “Magnetizing” with Del Tha Funky Homosapien. But the whole side’s range from tense underscores to fast and punchy chase themes makes this is a gem of the KPM catalogue.

As with all ten re-issues, the audio for Distinctive Themes / Race To Achievement comes from the original analogue tapes and has been remastered for vinyl by Be With regular Simon Francis. We’ve taken the same care with the sleeves, handing the reproduction duties over to Richard Robinson, the current custodian of KPM’s brand identity.

                Alan Hawkshaw And Brian Bennett

                Full Circle LP

Their NEW album, in full, iconic KPM cover is a return to the laidback jazz-funk that helped Alan and Brian demonstrate their library chops. The album is classic Hawkshaw/Bennett. It swings, it grooves, moves and thrills with a flair these two have perfected over years.

Alan Hawkshaw (piano/Hammond) and Shadow’s drummer Brian Bennett are responsible for some of the slickest, funkiest and most sought-after library records ever made in the UK, particularly ones recorded on the legendary KPM label. Their work has now become the go-to place for sampling in music today. Artists such as Dilla, Nas, and the xx, right through to the billion selling Kanye & Drake have taken Hawkshaw’s and Bennett’s immaculate beat-driven soundscapes for their own usage.

Their new album, in full, iconic KPM cover is a return to the laidback jazz-funk that helped Alan and Brian demonstrate their library chops. The album is classic Hawkshaw/Bennett. It swings, it grooves, moves and thrills with a flair these two have perfected over years.

Standout tracks such as "Hole In One", "In The Clouds", "Interchange", "Oasis", "On The Nile" and "Corcovado" are no mere excursions in nostalgia, for they carry lots of deft studio work that many a producer would give their right arm for. Hawkshaw’s arrangements allow the drums, guitar, bass, strings, Hammond, flute and brass to swirl elegantly around the 12 original tracks; a masterclass in recording.

Cut by Pete Norman, housed in a beautifully designed Richard Robinson sleeve and pressed at 180g by Record Industry in Holland, this release has been afforded the care and attention it rightly deserves. Essential.

Patrick says: The kings of the KPM library scene, groove barons Alan Hawkshaw and Brian Bennett hit the studio together for the first time in years and treat us to an eagerly anticipated LP of new material. As you'd expect from this pair of heroes, it's a far out and funky affair. KPM x BeWith for the win!!!

2018 Reissue – Remastered From Original Tapes, Carefully Reproduced Original Art.

James Clarke’s Mystery Movie was released in 1974 as “modern, small group compositions in various moods. Ideally suited to the new Americanised style of T.V. and cinema film where music is used to create the mood and carry the action”. So this collection covers a lot of bases, but it does so brilliantly and has absolutely no right to be such a fantastic listen from start to finish. Mystery Movie is best known for the slick drum breaks underpinning the top-notch jazz-funk chase theme “Car Patrol”, the fuzz riffing and ARP soloing of “The Heavies” and the slow-mo strut of “Mystery Moll”. “Study In Fear” and “Empty Streets” are horror soundtrack fodder of the finest sort. However, it’s the understated, plaintive pieces that we find the most rewarding. Ambient feels and strung-out fried-folk treats, full of cyclical naïve melodies. Music that evokes the ‘downlifting’ Ronnie Lane and Ron Wood instrumentals from their great Mahoney’s Last Stand LP, as well as the beautiful soundtrack work of Jack Nitzsche and Ry Cooder. You might also recognise “Waiting Game” from being sampled by melodic downbeat masters Express Rising. Check “Relaxed Theme”, “Quiet Girl”, “Routine Procedure” and “Quietness Sustained” for a melodic, melancholic set, with the last three performed on just acoustic guitar and harp. Gorgeous work. As with all ten re-issues, the audio for Mystery Movie comes from the original analogue tapes and has been remastered for vinyl by Be With regular Simon Francis. We’ve taken the same care with the sleeves, handing the reproduction duties over to Richard Robinson, the current custodian of KPM’s brand identity.

                  Smashing Pumpkins

In June of 2018, The Smashing Pumpkins released their new single “Solara” ahead of their monumental Shiny And Oh So Bright Tour. The track was the first song in over 18 years to feature founding members Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin, alongside longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder and offered the first glimpse of music from the newly reformed lineup. In September of 2018, the band formally announced their forthcoming 10th studio album SHINY AND OH SO BRIGHT, VOL. 1 / LP: NO PAST. NO FUTURE. NO SUN. and shared its second single “Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)”.

Recorded at Shangri La Studios with legendary producer Rick Rubin, LP is due for release on November 16th, 2018 via Martha’s Music under license to Napalm Records. With over 30 million albums sold to date, the GRAMMY®, MTV VMA, and American Music Award winning band remains one of the most influential bands in history.

                  STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: I will stick with Billy & Co until the end, let that be said now. Yeah, i've been less keen on things that I probably should have given more time to (Zwan, Machina etc), and been quite the fan of things I probably should have ignored (no names), but this really is classic Smumpkins, the band are back together and they are sounding SUPERB. Long live the Pumpkins.

                  The Delian Pool

                  The Delian Pool

The Delian Pool is another fresh project concerning a former Da Vinci, in this case guitarist Martin Ward who has teamed up with bassist/ electronica wizard Kevin Downey to create some startling new noise. Trading on past glories is clearly not an issue here. Describing themselves as simply “a two-piece band from The Wirral in the UK” (albeit adding the enigmatic codicil, “periodically, we are allowed to interact with other people”), the band’s Facebook page gives little away and neither does their name. In pre-AD times, the Delian League was an association of Greek city states whose purpose was to continue fighting for the Persian Empire, but it’s unlikely that ancient historical nugget cuts much ice here. Probably the whole point of the exercise is for the band to keep their audience guessing, for their eponymously-titled debut LP is something of a tabula rasa for Martin Ward. Aside from the aggressive ‘Ogle Overwhelmed’ and the infectious ‘Zurich Tzara Zeal’, his electric guitar is employed sparingly and anyone about to enter here expecting anthemic rock’n’roll will need to park their prejudices at the door.

Elaquent kicks off 2018 with his latest EP, Celebrate Life! The six-track record is set for release on March 16th 2018, via URBNET. Celebrate Life! is born out of reflection and graciousness, as expressed by Elaquent,“Life sucks sometimes. With all the depressing things that happen throughout the world, to people you know, to yourself even, it’s important to take a moment and appreciate the beautiful things the world has to offer, to prevent from going crazy. Stay positive, celebrate life”. Celebrate Life! features collaborations with notable producers K, Le Maestro and Dibiase.

                  Trevor Morris

Marvel's Iron Fist - Original Soundtrack LP

In celebration of the forthcoming Netflix Original Series MARVEL'S THE DEFENDERS, Mondo is excited to unite the previously released soundtracks to MARVEL'S DAREDEVIL - Season One, MARVEL'S JESSICA JONES - Season One and MARVEL'S LUKE CAGE soundtracks with the fourth Defender, MARVEL'S IRON FIST.

Composed by Trevor Morris (CASTLEVANIA), the score continues the tradition of giving each of THE DEFENDER'S their own sound and feel. MARVEL'S IRON FIST feels right at home beside the scores to THE RAID 1 & 2, delivering moody, ominous synth cues with frantic, pulsating percussion that attack and release in powerful bursts.

As with the previous releases, this also features all new original artwork by Matthew Woodson. Pressed on 180 Gram Black Vinyl.

                    Mystery Plane

                    Still Life

Mystery Plane formed in 1980 from the ashes of 70's new wave band 3D5 who's line-up also featured future Cure member Porl Thompson. This record was originally a demo cassette made in 1981 that was hawked around record labels with a view for release. Later Color Tapes released a 100 copies edition. To support their demo at the time the band played such gigs at the Marquee, Rock Garden and The Bridgehouse supporting bands such as Fad Gadget, Modern English and Henry Padovani (Ex-Police) in London.

This sublime minimal basement krauty synth LP was inspired by bands such as Neu, Amon Duul ll, and "Vienna" period Ultravox. The album features guitar work of Gerald O' Connell who was a big fan of Ash Ra Tempel's guitarist Manuel Gottsching. A year later he went on to form Lives Of Angels who made the classic cold wave album "Elevator To Eden" which was originally released on Color Tapes in 1983.

Mystery Plane have been featured on the sold out Cold Waves Of Color compilation series. The album has been remastered by Denis Blackham and comes complete with a poster insert.

                      The Shadows Of Knight

                      Live 1966

Besides releasing two classic longplayers and many more singles (including the smash, “Gloria”), touring/behaving badly all across America and appearing on TV shows like ‘Upbeat’ and ‘Where The Action Is’, the Shadows of Knight also ruled at suburban Chicago’s hands-down hippest teen club, The Cellar. Over the decades, their Cellar performances have become the stuff of legend.

Miraculously, two reels of tape of the Shadows of Knight live on stage at the Cellar (in 1966!) were eventually uncovered by Sundazed. As early as their ‘Gloria’ album debut in spring ’66, the Shadows of Knight had separated themselves from the garage band pack with a heavily Chicago Blues-based, wildly rocking repertoire. Their trademark sound is on full display in this attitude-drenched, anarchic live recording from late in that exalted year.

For this expanded edition, the original sets and correct song sequence have been faithfully restored. And to top that, additional and until now completely unheard bonus material is rescued from those old reels. Specifically, added to an already scorching set are previously-unheard takes of “Peepin’ and Hidin’” (sung by blues legend Joe Kelley), “Willie Jean” (with a vocal from drummer Tom Schiffour) and “Any Way That You Want Me”. Equally important, the packaging now equals the musical contents thanks to an all-new, eye grabbing sleeve highlighted by John Hora’s amazing original photography from ’66.

Unlike their comparatively harnessed studio recordings, the Shadows of Knight are presented here raw ‘n’ alive, sloppy bordering on brilliant and with all the subtlety of a bulldozer. Would you want ‘em any other way?

There’s swagger, there’s punch, there’s speed and there’s dirty filthy grooves, Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee showing clearly that Motörhead is not simply a band, it’s a genre!

                          Nina Simone

                          Nina At Newport (LP+CD Edition)

When this album was recorded live at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1960, Nina Simone had just had her first Top 20 hit with "I Loves You, Porgy", but the "Porgy" found here (written by Jimmy McHugh and Dorothy Fields, most famous for "I Can't Give You Anything But Love") is actually a continuation of Gershwin's original version of the story. Other highlights include "Flo Me La", an African work chant, and "Little Liza Jane", an African American folk song.

                          3. In The Evening By The Moonlight

Over the years Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon and his earlier band, Red House Painters, has gained well deserved praise for his extraordinary songwriting. At the same time he has developed a parallel reputation for his unique covers of other people's material Many of these tracks were recorded for tribute albums that are now unavailable. Caldo Verde Records has now collected them in a cohesive, 10-song LP titled "The Finally LP". Highlights include a bluegrass version of "Lazy" by Low, "Bedtime Lullaby" from the children's show Yo Gabba Gabba! and an intimate, acoustic version of Stephen Sondhiem's "Send In the Clowns" recorded for the Minneapolis Bridge Disaster Benefit CD. The album also includes radio show rarities, a previously unreleased version of Husker Du's "Celebrated Summer" and two original instrumentals.
