KLASSE WRECKS

For the 58th outing of the Wrecks anthology the label welcome new Argentinian producer Gaston Cabrera to the ranks. With his unique, energized and atmospheric productions he seems like a prime candidate one of our favourite nightclub imprints. The 'Prohibido' EP doesnt waste anytime getting to the point, a snarling beast that goes straight for the jugular. Spooky techno tropes mix with the best of yesteryear electro house stylings, it's a sound that feels new and exciting yet at the same time very familiar. Both raw and musical, the 4 song record could soundtrack either a long lost John Carpenter horror or a Tron-esque retro sci-fi movie; or, of course, a nightclub scene straight out of Total Recall. Recommended!

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Klasse Wrecks are on a roll at present, dishing out hardcore, prog, and technoid torpedoes like there's no tomorrow. This high voltage, acidic EP from Gaston Cabrera buzzes with electricity whilst its intriguing chord progressions and sound design also lend itself to more electro-disco and cosmic dancefloors.

Ability II, Luca Lozano & DJ Steve

My Definition Of Bass

Leeds bleep-techno royalty Ability II aka David Duncan has been on the Wrecks radar for a few years now, the unison dating back to Luca Lozano's remix of his evergreen anthem 'Pressure' in 2017. Since the remix the communication has stayed open and talks of a collaboration started, linking generations old and new. That collaboration, recorded over a couple of years and a couple of studios, results in WRECKS057 'My Definition of Bass'. Four tracks split into two sides, the WRECKS side is taken care of by Lozano and long time collaborator and friend DJ Steve. The two producers live jammed sketches, recorded the sessions and then incorporated original vocals by Ability II, churning out acid wiggles and jacking drum tracks. Ability then took these versions and then dubbed them out in his crossover style for the I9M side, resulting in two steppers made for the strictly for the bassbins. Echoing vocal layers and new instrumentation takes them out of the usual 'wrecks wrealm' and into new, dubbier territories. A triumph you might say - and you'd be right! Recommended.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Bleep / hardcore revivalists Klasse Wrecks enlist Leeds-based Ability II who joins label stalwarts Luca Lozano & DJ Steve for some proper warehouse shaking rambunctiousness. We are E!

Klasse Wrecks is happy to welcome a young new producer to its ranks, hailing from the magical city of Sheffield, Kwake is fresh on the scene with a debut EP brimming with style and function. The 'Nucleus' EP is a well curated selection of 303 and breakbeat sprinkled dance tracks, powerful enough to move the feet but with enough consideration to inspire the mind.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Klasse Wrecks continues to rattle the warehouse and bug the bassbins with an acid-flecked breakbeat romp from Sheffield's Kwake.

Klasse Wrecks kick off a new year with a new artist, Glasgow based DJ and producer Stevie Cox. Stevie's second release is one of deep cerebral breaks and evolving technicoloured techno. Four tracks that surprisingly weave an already defined and recognisable sound from the young artist. Dont expect over-thought and over-cooked musings though, Cox keeps it fresh, to the point and relevant with most tracks clocking in around 5 minutes. There is enough playfulness to keep the gurners smiling and enough well-thought out drumwork to keep the feet moving, this tight selection will most likely find its way into a variety of record bags during its lifespan.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Klasse Wrecks continue with the hedonism after slaying us with that DJ Absolutely Shit joint from a month back. Stevie Cox comes thru with vacuum sealed breaks, wubbing b-lines and lashings of acid to send us flying head first into dancefloor euphoria.
