Boogie Beasts

Blues From Jupiter

Dirty beats, hypnotising slide, screaming harmonica riffs and plenty of fuzz: all of these will be served by this four-men band from Belgium.

Boogie Beasts translate their passion for (hill country) blues into a most characteristic sound of their own, which has a touch of The Black Keys jamming with John Lee Hooker at a rave in the wee hours of the morning, or Morphine on a psychedelic trip with Little Walter, or even RL Burnside backed up by the young Rolling Stones at a juke joint-gig.

With their second album "Kin Sonic", Jupiter and Okwess transcend the Congo's unexplored musical heritage and dive into a pool of modernity. We're invited to savour his latest recipe, the Okwess ('food' in the Kibunda language) which is the fruit of all the encounters and influences he has absorbed during his many journeys around the world. It's a recipe based on perfect alchemy. Featuring Damon Albarn, Warren Ellis and Robert del Naja, aka '3D' (Massive Attack), this fusion of tradition, technology and modern technique should be the perfect soundtrack to many a summer to come.

    Jupiter-C

    001

JUPITER-C’s debut release on Invada Records, featuring remixes by legendary film score composer Clint Mansell (‘Requiem For A Dream’, ‘Moon’, ‘Black Mirror’), and by UK electronic musician East India Youth. The East India Youth remix is to be the artist’s final piece of work under this name.

JUPITER-C describe their sound as “ruptured melodies with dissonant noise,” a description presented brilliantly in their debut EP which features heavy drones, saturated guitar melodies and haunting female vocals.

With darkly-hued synths and pulsing drum machines, this project is reminiscent of works by The KVB, The Soft Moon, Siouxsie Sioux, The Cure and Joy Division.

      Train

      Drops Of Jupiter

This San Francisco band with a penchant for the sort of sound popularised by the Black Crowes. The title track is the album's heart with swelling strings and chorded piano melody. Radio-friendly rock bands these days tend to be virtually the same as each other, but Train breaks out from the crowd and are worthy of your consideration.
