The Alan Parsons Project / Joe Claussell

The Voice / I Wouldn’t Want To Be Like You (Joe Claussell Mixes)

Leave it to Joe Claussell to tap into our current collective artificial intelligence anxiety and render the racket divine. Alan Parson’s 1977 'I Robot' - the LP from which these two new edits were culled - was a harbinger for all the technological sheen and humanistic distress that was to come. Drawing from heady science fiction and even headier musicality and studio sophistication, ’The Voice’ evoked Jeremy Bentham-like omniscient surveillance, while the original ‘I Wouldn’t Want To Be Like You’ explores the ambivalent rift in perspective between the two poles of flesh and metal. For Claussell, the dichotomy leaves more unanswered questions and artistic possibilities, for the truth is always tangled and ripe for potential. Our bodies are propelled by the same electrons which accumulate in capacitors; our hearts, as Milford Graves was so enthralled, likewise transmit the same electric impulses which not only sustain our bodies but soundtrack our eternal, internal rhythm. These edits, with their strings, synthesizers and distortion-ravaged guitars, are protracted to dynamic sublimity, and seem aware of this seemingly opposing dynamic. Claussell, himself a lifelong proponent and interrogator of man’s relationship with mechanized rhythm and sound, leaves our earthly toil and unease behind for something greater, something yet unnamed, shared between us all at our finest. It's almost a feeling you can touch in the air…

Ashford & Simpson

Stay Free - Joe Claussell Edit

Following the overwhelming response to the Warner remix series produced by Joe Claussell, with copies disappearing in hours-another Stella remix package steps forward. This is not part of the Edits & Overdubs series. No loops. No shortcuts. Like the previous release, Ashford & Simpson’s “Stay Free” was rebuilt straight from the original 48-track 2-inch multitrack tapes, resulting in two fully realized remix versions designed for the floor. The A-side delivers a 14+ minute deep, extended journey-patient, evolving, and powerful, injecting new life while honoring the soul of the original. The B-side flips the script with an Alternate Instrumental, stripped back and ready for late-night moments. Cut, tested, and refined on dance floors worldwide over several years, these versions have already proven their weight in real club settings. Pressed on green vinyl, housed in a heavy Japanese-style cardboard sleeve, and accompanied by a Warner-style disco promo one-sheet and bumper sticker-a nod to the golden era of 12” promos.

Limited to 300 copies. Similar to the Deodato Whistle Bump 12” - No repress. No extras.

STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Deep, slowly whirling synth riffs wrap around a beautifully organic series of rhythmic paddling and echoic skittering. Elsewhere, jazzy keys and unfolding grooves float about the stereo field, deeply rooted in the rhythm and momentum of hand-played percussion. Incredibly emotive, exciting ambient music.

Deodato

Whistle Bump (Joe Claussell Edit)

Due to the overwhelming response and high enthusiasm of this record-pressed on black, selling out in literally an hour, we are now getting a LIMITED amount copies pressed onto green vinyl of Deodato's "Whistle Bump" remixed by Joaquin Joe Claussell.

Deodato's "Whistle Bump" remixed by Joaquin Joe Claussell should not be mistaken for one of his highly sought after Edits & Overdubs Series. “Whistle Bump” is a full on remix produced directly from the actual multitracks resulting in a stunning extended version that breathes new life into the piece while staying true to the original composition. This carefully crafted remix extends to almost 14 minutes.

Tested for several years on dancefloors across the globe, the record is finally here… and boy is it a belter! We’re not quite sure why Joe’s charged so much money (perhaps he's had to pay Warner’s loads for the license?) but we know that disco lovers without this in the collection are going to cry many a tear…

Siembra - Inc. Joe Claussell Remix

Herrrre's Joe Claussell with more exquisite reworkings from the Fania catalogue. "Siembra" is taken from the 1978 LP of the same name. Originally a five minute salsa / cha cha joint, in the hands of big Joe he transforms it into a raging spiritual house monster. Utilizing the rippling percussion lines and vamping piano, alongside the incendiary vocals (redacted for the dub), he adds one of his trademark house beats before extending the fun for over ten minutes!

Nothing much more to say. If you know you know. If you don't you'll take one look at the price tag and run a mile!

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Joe Claussell continues to mine the Fania catalogue for rich seams of spiritual Latin grooves which he in turn transforms into extended moments of evangelical house worship. Blink and you'll miss it!

Influence of hallucinations induced by chewing roots from the iboga plant on the works of Joaquin Joe Claussell's Edits & Overdubs "Iboga" Compilation. The iboga plant is indigenous to the humid, tropical climates of West Central Africa, including Gabon, Cameroon, Congo, and Angola, which are home to the 2nd largest rainforest in the world. It has been used for centuries in spiritual initiation ceremonies and practices, particularly by the Bwiti tradition and religion in Gabon.

Joaquin Joe Claussell was inspired by these influences and went into the studio to create a compilation of edits and overdubs of African vibrational sounds and rhythms. The result is a collection of eleven compositions that showcase the future possibilities of this influential work.
