In Colour - 10th Anniversary Picture Disc Edition

Originally released on 29th May 2015, 'In Colour' quickly established itself as a modern classic - a kaleidoscopic journey through UK dance culture that continues to resonate with fans and critics alike.

It received widespread acclaim upon its release: Pitchfork awarded it Best New Music, hailing it as “a dazzling and deeply emotive record that reimagines the club as a space of memory, euphoria, and introspection.” Rolling Stone praised its “masterful blending of genres and eras,” Mixmag crowned it their best album of 2015, while NME called it “a modern masterpiece.” The album appeared on countless more year-end and decade-end best-of lists, cementing its status as one of the most important electronic releases of the 2010s.

Featuring standout tracks like 'Loud Places' (featuring Romy), 'Gosh', (with its epic Romain Gavras-directed music video) and 'I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)' (featuring Young Thug and Popcaan), 'In Colour' struck a rare balance between underground credibility and crossover appeal. It earned Jamie xx multiple GRAMMY, Brit and Ivor Novello Award nominations alongside a shortlist for the 2016 Mercury Music Prize. A decade later, 'In Colour' endures not only for its production brilliance but also for the emotional depth it brought to the dancefloor – a record that transformed a personal love letter to UK club culture into a global, generation-defining statement.

    3, 10, Why, When

      Jamie Leeming

      Sequent

A key collaborator of Alfa Mist, Tom Misch and Jas Kayser, Jamie Leeming’s musical mastery has long since made him one of London’s most sought after jazz guitarists. Initially gaining notoriety through his work on Alfa Mist’s string of cult-classic albums, he then stepped out solo; first in collaboration with pianist Maria Chiara Argirò on their collaborative 2020 album ‘Flow’ then in 2022 with his debut solo long player ‘Resynthesis’ (which featured Laura Groves & Quinn Oulton). Jamie now returns with his sophomore solo album ‘Sequent via Sekito Records imprint. It features contributions from Laura Misch, Sly5thAve, Alfa Mist, Richard Spaven and Kaya Thomas-Dyke (who also painted the album’s beautiful cover art).

Co-produced with Alfa Mist, and inspired by albums from the likes of Milton Nascimento and Egberto Gismonti, ‘Sequent’ is a constantly evolving twelve-track odyssey. Recorded live, using vintage production techniques, it captures the sound of musicians at the top of their game, locked into creating an enveloping tornado of sound. Exploring the very nature of change, the album’s tracks act as momentary windows into the ever-shifting nature of the compositions. Jamie’s vision for creating vast, sprawling arrangements is on full display, melding with analogue sounds and warm instrumentation, with the result being a truly enthralling, cinematic and emotive listening experience.

The album's first single ‘Shore Embrace’, Jamie is joined by Laura Misch on vocal duties, glassy guitar arpeggios are joined by lament-tinged saxophone motifs, propelled by dusty drums as Laura’s undulating vocals flow effortlessly overhead. Second Offering ‘Thinking Of Yesterday’ is an autumnal and sparse composition, as descending guitar patterns meld with Kaya Thomas-Dyke’s silken tones, gradually unfurling into spectral and ethereal realms. On their collaboration, Jamie explains ‘I’ve been part of various musical projects with Kaya over the years, it was really special for me to be able to collaborate together on a track. Kaya also painted the incredible artwork for the album, an image of hexagram 24 from the I Ching, an ancient Chinese text which translates as “Book of Changes”. Final single ‘Late One’ sees Jamie connect with Texas native Sly5thAve, constructing an intricate, delicate and groove-laden offering. On their creative partnership, Jamie says: "Late One” was written about nighttime contemplation, and the moment when the sky begins to lighten. The foundation of the track was recorded live, on the first take. It was a highlight for me to collaborate with Sly5thAve, who I met whilst touring the USA with Alfa Mist. His approach to this is beautifully unique and involves, amongst many other aspects, detailed orchestration of individual musical moments, performed by multiple layers of woodwinds.”.

‘Sequent’ is a beautifully understated listen, led by majestic and elevational instrumentation and perfectly captured for full and unfiltered appreciation. Throughout the LP, fusion licks meet scattered drums, dancing together across great plains of tonal shifts, as it marches forward to a pace of its own making, showing that great things cannot be rushed. It’s a powerful body of work, one that surely will place Jamie shoulder to shoulder amongst his peers, and with other giants of the scene.

Studio Electrophonique : The Sheffield Space Age, From The Human League To Pulp

The amazing story of the home studio that helped launch some of Britain’s most beloved bands. The Sheffield space age began in 1961, when local mechanic Ken Patten won a tape-recording competition by recreating the sound of a rocket launch using a pencil and a bicycle pump. In the decades that followed, the makeshift home studio he constructed became the launch pad for a group of young musicians who would shape the futuristic sound of 1980s pop.

The Human League, Heaven 17, Pulp, ABC and others made their early recordings with Ken, whose DIY ethic was the perfect fit for a city facing industrial decline but teeming with ideas. Studio Electrophonique tells the story of a generation seeking new frontiers in music, using everything they could lay their hands on – from science fiction novels to glam rock, Dada art and cheap electronics – to get there. Drawing on original interviews with Jarvis Cocker, Martyn Ware, Mark White and others, it brings to light a world of humour, charm, creativity and unfounded yet undaunted self-belief.

            I Still Want To Share

Co-produced by Guy Massey (Spiritualised, The Divine Comedy, Kylie) and Sophie Jamieson, 'I Still Want To Share' is an album exploring the push and pull, merry-go-round nature of anxious attachment and how it weaves, cuts and steals through familial and romantic relationships.

Throughout the record is a perpetual longing to belong, a yearning to learn how to love and let go, and a continual missing of the mark. Each song clings tightly to the possibility of home, but never arrives there. The album was recorded in North London between Guy's studio and Konk Studios, with string arrangements from Josephine Stephenson (Daughter, Ex:Re, Lisa Hannigan) and drums from Ed Riman (Hilang Child).

              In Waves

Nine years on from the release of his seminal GRAMMY, BRIT, Ivor Novello and Mercury Music Prize-nominated debut album 'In Colour', London musician, DJ and producer Jamie xx announces his long-awaited second album 'In Waves'. Across 12 tracks including 'Baddy On The Floor', his joyous summer collaboration with club culture icon Honey Dijon, Jamie xx replicates the emotional crescendos and thrilling volatility of an almost mystical night out and features further collaborations with Robyn, The Avalanches, Kelsey Lu, John Glacier and Panda Bear, Oona Doherty and his The xx bandmates Romy and Oliver Sim. Created over a four year period ushered in by his much-loved 2020 Essential Mix and peppered with periods of self-reflection, a global pandemic, the blinking reemergence into the strobelight and a newly discovered love of surfing as escapism, it’s an album that's on course to eclipse the heights of its globally acclaimed predecessor.

                STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Nine years have elapsed since the release of one of Piccadilly's most requested LP's, Jamie XX's 'In Colour', and the world is certainly ready for the next outing. So what's on the cards? Well, it's beautifully rich, driven dancefloor electronica that moves deftly between the outer reaches of house, trance and IDM with a lovely selection of guest vocals including Romy and Oliver Sim. Though In Colour was a bright and impactful statement, 'In Waves' shows a marked maturation of sound and execution. Brilliant.

Odopt is back on Especial and this time is in collaborative mode with Sebastian Hoyos aka Sano, who is a regular on the likes of Matias Aguayo's Comeme and Munich's Public Possession. The pair cook up a fine globally-minded club trip that comes with another label return, this time from remixer Jamie Paton. The original 'Picha' first started as a sketch in 2016 then became a demo in 2019 and now finally arrives on wax. It's a raw percussive workout with razor-sharp snares and plenty of cowbells. Next to an instrumental comes the Paton remix and it is a trademark deep and dubwise piece of work with widescreen dynamics.

The Rejects : An Alternative History Of Popular Music

Imagine you've made it. You and your friends have hit the big time in music and you're going to be a star. But then, quite suddenly, it's over.

Your best friends don't want you anymore, and you're on the outside. Perhaps they're tired of your bad habits, they think you're not good enough, or they sense you just don't want it as much as they do. Whatever the cause, you're a reject.

So, what do you do next?Featuring a player rejected by both Nirvana and Soundgarden who became a decorated special forces soldier, Britpoppers who spiralled into addiction before becoming novelists and missionaries, the terrifying story of Guns N' Roses' first drummer, super-rejecting band leaders, self-destroying rappers, troubled hard rock bassists and girl-band burnouts, The Rejects takes an intimate, thoughtful look at people who've been kicked out of bands, what they experienced and what came afterwards. Coming from a writer with twenty years' music industry experience, The Rejects is a sympathetic study of some of music's most fascinating characters, and what happens when the dream comes crashing to an end. The result is a compelling alternative history of popular music.

                  Choosing

Released this summer via her new home at Bella Union, Sophie Jamieson’s ‘Choosing’ is a strikingly personal document of a journey from a painful rock bottom of self-destruction to a safer place imbued with the faint light of hope. Focusing on the bare bones of each song and taking inspiration from the direct and melodic work of songwriters such as Elena Tonra, Sharon Van Etten, and Scott Hutchison, it’s an album that sings openly of longing and searching, of trying, failing, and trying again – and always and throughout, the strength of love in so many varying forms.

Following on from the pair of EPs she released in 2020, Choosing finds its own shape by a subtle reforming of Jamieson’s sound. Where those EPs flirted with playful experimentation, here the overriding sound is both organic and simpler – live drums, bass, cello, and piano are used across the album – allowing space for Sophie’s mesmerising voice to take the spotlight, the songs delivered with the most direct and intimate impact.

                        (04:30) Idler

Can you sleep? (04:30) Idler chronicles a personal struggle with insomnia that inspired the album’s title, it combines bossa nova, 70s analog synths and the polymorphous vibrations of London’s new burgeoning jazz scene.

Jamie Isaac is a young producer and songwriter, born in Croydon to Burmese and British parents. He signed to Marathon Artists in 2014 and has been harnessing his sound ever since, operating in the space between jazz, soul, R&B, electronics and hip hop. Across a handful of singles and EPs, as well as a mixtape, his debut album and its follow-up, he has evolved into a formidable artist with a transatlantic following.

Millie says: This might just be the perfect hybrid of synths, hip hop-jazz and electronic sound wrapped up in one record like a present. I can't get enough of the soft dreamy vocals, you need to listen to this it's a beaut!

                          Rope
                          Delight

Trick arrives after a gap of less than two years shot through with the kind of vigour and vibrancy that can only come from a man who’s rediscovered his love of writing, recording and performing. Spearheaded by lead single ‘Tinfoil Boy’, the track was Annie Mac’s Hottest Record and has since been added to Radio 1, 6 Music and Radio X. Recorded in London and Detroit, Michigan, Trick features co-production and all instruments played by Jamie and long-time creative partner James Dring and is the kind of brave and eclectic rock/punk/reggae/rap/pop celebration that only Jamie T could make.

Inspired by claustrophobic London Summers, the album is a proud, punchy summing-up of all Jamie’s unique signatures – Clash-like anthems, youthful reminiscence, high-speed raps, earworm choruses and snarky humour. It follows the triumphant success of 2014’s comeback album Carry On The Grudge.

                          A-Trak Feat Jamie Lidell

                          We All Fall Down

Fool's Gold head honcho / DJ producer A-Trak hooks up with Warp Records Mr Soul Jamie Lidell for this slice up pop-house uplift. "We All Fall Down" features Lidell's soulful vocals over an upbeat funky house backing with chunky piano chords and hyper 808 percussion. It's the kind of track that I'd actually bother checking out at the gym, and can already imagine the video of festival crowds all jumping in unison during the chorus (in slo-mo, obv.). On the flip is 'Jamie's Version', which has more of an organic feel to it. Hit!

                            In Colour

Jamie xx releases his debut album 'In Colour' on Young Turks. The 11 track LP includes previous releases ‘Girl’ and ‘Sleep Sound’ as well as forthcoming single ‘Loud Places’, which features vocals from Romy Madley Croft.

The release of 'In Colour' comes on the back of an incredible six year creative period for Jamie xx, which has seen him alternate effortlessly between his role as founding member and producer of the xx, and creator of more electronic and club orientated music as Jamie xx. A string of acclaimed productions in recent years including debut solo single ‘Far Nearer’, remixes for the likes of Adele, Radiohead and Florence & The Machine, production work for Drake and Alicia Keys plus 'We’re New Here' - Jamie’s reworking of Gil Scott-Heron’s final studio album - hinted at what was to come. With 'In Colour' - a bold, celebratory, emotional record that features collaborations with The xx band mates Romy Madley Croft (‘Seesaw’ and ‘Loud Places’) and Oliver Sim (‘Stranger In A Room’), Young Thug and Popcaan (‘Good Times’) and Four Tet (‘Seesaw’) - Jamie delivers his definitive artistic statement.

Big Love Remix EP - Inc. Machinedrum / Jimmy Edgar / Crackboy Remixes

Following his eponymous album release earlier this year Jamie Lidell  drops remixes of album favourite ‘Big Love’ PINK 12” vinyl .

Riding high on the release of his new album 'Vapor City', Machinedrum (also of Sepalcure, Jets, OM Unit and Dream Continuum) delivers a tough steppers version that combines early dubstep rhythms, acid synths and snapping 808 percussion. Next we have Lidell band member Lorenz Rhode combines 80s electro-funk synth riffs with a tougher 2013 sound. On the flip multi-talented Detroit-based electronic producer, designer and photographer, Jimmy Edgar hits us with a wicked 80s proto-techno / electrodisco version. Crackboy goes his own way with a slammin' house refix of other album track ‘You Naked’, which pitches Jamie's vocal down for a sleazy robot soul style.

                                  ULTRA LIMITED SIGNED COPIES.

Born in Bristol, Jamie N Commons moved to Chicago with his family when he was six and it was there that he developed a deep love for American music. The first gig his father took him to was the Allman Brothers: "I have strong memories of strange-smelling smoke and the guy next to us howling like a wolf," recalls Jamie.

Working at Westlake Studios, where Michael Jackson recorded Thriller, inspired a new sonic approach, combining gritty beats, arresting vocals and rousing melodies which, together with experimental arrangements, make these 4 songs unique and inspiring. Alex Da Kid, Eg White (Adele, Florence and the Machine) and Ed Harcourt are on production duties, giving a taste of things to come.

                                  Jamie Lidell

Sonic innovator, human orchestra and musical chameleon Jamie Lidell releases his highly-anticipated new album on Warp Records. It's his most direct and spectacular record yet. The self-titled record represents a distillation of Jamie Lidell's sonic foundations, with the collaborations of 2010's 'Compass' replaced with an approach that is pure and wholly Lidell - eleven tracks further proving his ability to upend expectations of the ways man and machine can make music together. The self-produced album was committed to tape and mixed at Lidell’s newly built studio in his new home in Nashville, the latest stop on a restless journey that has seen him move from his birthplace in the heart of England, through the musical hotbeds of Berlin and New York. The album draws from the rich vein of electro-funk, including Cameo, George Clinton, New Jack Swing and Prince, and is arguably Lidell’s most dynamic work yet.

Infrasonics hits heavy with the next 12” in their highly collectable split EP series. As FACTmagazine put it, “Totally pumped, furious work outs from Kingthing and Jamie Grind herald their first release of 2012, showcasing a high-octane mixture of snarling club sounds as aggressively funky as any Swamp 81 or Fade To Mind material”. New signing Kingthing comes correct with two hybrid numbers that build on the garage swagger of his previous outings with a new found focus and intensity and a broadened sonic palette that wraps analogue-style synths within tight digital edits. The intro to ‘Waking Up’ is rhythmic in fits and starts, as vocal hooks and triplet percussive stabs reciprocate before gradually settling, building a continuity of meter with rising pads leading to a crescendo that drops into a killer, technoid resolution of jacking monosynth leads and arpeggios over a slamming kick. ‘Cold Diss’ bangs hard from the off. Distilled juke and booty influences seep through the interplay of the vocal phonemes and pitched sub, but the vibe here is original. The accompanying synth, that briefly introduces the track before later resurfacing to guide, has a cold clinical precision and resonance to it that could be forged by SND or Alva Noto. The context is very different though and the resulting symbiosis is a satisfying romp for the peak hour dance Jamie Grind turned the head of many a player with his first drop for Infrasonics on the ‘Infra12003 EP’ he shared with Gon. Equally, his second pulls no punches. Sonically situated somewhere between Leeds and L.A. he turns in two tracks that weave summer vibes around a propulsive bassline rhythms. ‘For You’ builds around cut up vocal hooks and woozy stabs before resolving into an infectious, driving 4/4 groove. It breaks briefly, breezy chords switching the atmosphere, before settling back into the bassline groove. ‘We Still Play 140’ is a different proposition, constructed around an off kilter piano / stab combo and skittering percussion. It’s unfamiliar territory but Jamie’s ability to settle the listener as the bass and strings give fullness and urgency to the mix and play with the tension and release is a testament to his finely tuned pop sensibilities - man knows how to arrange for devastating impact.

                                    Compass

A breathtaking, multi-faceted alternative record from one of the UK’s best kept secrets, featuring an all-star cast of collaborators and conspirators. Vocal acrobat Jamie Lidell returns with "Compass", a fourteen track voyage through sound featuring the haunting teaser track "Compass" and the gutter-fuzz of first single "The Ring" - checking off spectral, ethereal atmospherics ("You See My Light"), furious howling-funk ("Coma Chameleon") and beat-box-infused soul ("Completely Exposed") on the way. He’s teamed up with an all-star cast – at the helm are Beck and Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor on production duties. They also play on the record, alongside Dan Rossen and Chris Bear (Grizzly Bear), Feist, Wilco’s Brian Lebarton, Nikka Costa, Gonzales and legendary drummer James Gadson (who has recorded with BB King, Herbie Hancock and Martha Reeves, amongst others).

                                      Jim

Jamie Lidell's second album, "Multiply" caught people off-guard in 2005. Few expected the restless sonic scientist to make an uplifting soul record, but he did; and audiences and critics were captivated by the fusion of his influences with deeply felt song writing, meticulous production skills, and most of all, that amazing voice. And now here he comes again. Recorded in Berlin, Los Angeles and Paris, "Jim" takes even further what was started with "Multiply", finding the balance between the spontaneous creativity of his raw ideas and the careful craft and polish of a great record. The musical world of "Jim" is richer and more refined; but it always comes back to the voice. "Jim" will switch you on in the morning, move you on the dancefloor and take you down in the small hours. It's a bold, promiscuously diverse album, mixing up gospel grooves, sweetly sung and fiercely passionate soul, delicately moving ballads, thumping early R&B, synthed-up disco, and even a touch of 'hillbilly funk'.

                                        Jamie T

                                        Panic Prevention

The debut album from Wimbledon's finest rascal. Jamie T is a tall, skinny suburban lad obsessed with The Clash, The Specials, Tom Waits and Rancid as much as he's influenced by the UK garage and drum and bass raves he grew up attending. Armed with an acoustic bass guitar, the 19 year old Jamie trawled the back rooms of pubs in Soho, Hounslow and Twickenham playing his unique tales of young suburbia (think The Streets meets The Arctic Monkeys) and the result is this: a clever, dead playful, madly articulate, indie-punky-poppy album. He's got the guts to be doing his own thing. He's a proper character and this is a great debut album, teeming with life.
