Jah Wobble

Dark Luminosity : Memoirs Of A Geezer, The Expanded Edition

Written in his own unmistakable voice and with a new afterword by the author, this is the frank and fascinating memoir by arguably the greatest bass player of his generation. Beginning with an East End childhood in a London barely recovered from the War, he takes us on a journey through the beginnings of punk and post-punk as a founding member of Public Image Limited, an illustrious forty-year solo career which has seen collaborations musical greats such as U2, Brian Eno and CAN and a Mercury Music Prize nomination through to the present day still playing to sell out audiences. Along the way we hear how Wobble navigated chronic alcoholism and marital breakdown and has emerged as a national treasure.

If you ever wondered how got his name, the answer is here: his teenage pal Sid Vicious gave it to him when he drunkenly slurred Wobble's real name, John Wardle.

The Celtic Poets / Requiem / The Light Programme: The 30 Hertz Albums

Born John Joseph Wardle in Stepney, East London in 1958, Jah Wobble (a name derived from Sid Vicious’ drunken mumblings) first become known to a wider audience as the original bassist in Public Image Ltd (PiL) in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. Departing after two albums, Wobble went on to enjoy a highly prolific and successful solo career, regularly releasing multiple albums in a single year. Jah Wobble not only continued to release an abundance of his own material, but also went on to work with a hugely diverse range of artists including Baaba Maal, Bjork, Primal Scream, Brian Eno, Sinead O’Connor, Julianne Regan, Dolores O’Riordan, Holger Czukay, The Edge and Chaka Demus & Pliers. Jah Wobble’s first three albums on his own 30 Hertz label get the reissue and remastering treatment in this beautifully packaged 3CD set. The release includes the full first three albums, plus non-album bonus material from the period, including the tracks ‘Magical Thought (Radio Edit)’ and ’30 Hertz’. Contains exclusive sleeve notes written by Jah Wobble himself. Newly remastered for this special release.

      In Dub

Since his days with Public Image Ltd., Jah Wobble has been carving a unique niche on bass guitar, drawing on myriad musical styles for his prolific output of over forty albums and countless collaborations. Following the critical acclaim afforded to last year’s 6-CD box set Redux, Jah Wobble In Dub is an affordable entrée to one aspect of JW’s music, a style with which he is most commonly associated and yet is somehow difficult to define.

Compiled and annotated by Wobble, who has also contributed some of his paintings for the front cover and the booklet, Jah Wobble In Dub picks up where Redux left off, sampling his 30 Hertz catalogue from the mid-1990s onwards while also dipping back into his 80s solo work. In Dub also boasts four brand new recordings. ‘Metamorphosis (Burnt Umber Youth Dub)’ and ‘Inspector Out Of Space (Youth Inner Space Dub)’ are taken from Wobble’s new album with legendary producer Youth, Everything Is Nothing while ‘Forest Funk Dub’ and ‘Forest Gate Dub’ are brand new tracks, also recorded by the new-look Invaders Of The Heart. In addition, In Dub includes a previously unissued mix of ‘The Sweetest Feeling’ from 2007’s Heart & Soul’ album (re-named ‘The Way I Feel’).
