The Meters

The Meters - 2025 Reissue

Debut 1969 album by New Orleans’ The Meters. Cut from the Original Analog Master tapes by Kevin Gray. High Quality Vinyl Release. An Essential album in any Soul/Funk collection. Features the hit single “Cissy Strut”. Debut 1969 album by New Orleans’ The Meters. Led by organist Art Neville, the quartet was rounded out by jazz-influenced guitarist Leo Nocentelli, along with the bubbling rhythm section of bassist George Porter, Jr. and drummer Joseph "Zigaboo” Modeliste. Their regional influences were a smashing together of rock n’ roll, syncopated ‘second line’ rhythms from Mardi Gras parades, and jazz improvisations that only could have come from the New Orleans music scene. The Meters helped move R&B music toward the heavier direction of Funk complicated rhythms meeting economically powerful riffs that were the wave of what was to come.

The Wipers

Is This Real? - 2025 Reissue

Unquestionably Portland's most well-loved punk group, the Wipers formed in the late 1970s and in 1980 released their debut LP, "Is This Real?"- twelve songs of stabbing, jittery guitar, snapped vocals, and unabashed teen angst. Full of desperation and yearning, the LP has stood as a blueprint for wretched youth for over 25 years. In the early 1990s "Is This Real?" was given mainstream attention when Nirvana covered two tracks off the record and Cobain announced it was one of the primary influences on his group. While it was reissued on compact disc and available as a part of the Wipers Boxed Set (Zeno), this is the first time "Is This Real?" has been available on vinyl in the U.S. since its initial release. Remastered from original tapes as provided by Greg Sage himself, the LP is pressed on audiophile grade vinyl and housed in a deluxe tip-on sleeve. Complete with a printed insert that replicates the original innersleeve, the Jackpot Records reissue of "Is This Real?" is a lavish tribute to one of the greatest recordings of the last 30 years. Sales Points: First time on vinyl in over 25 years / Limited Edition Vinyl Pressing / A primary influence on Nirvana, who often covered their songs / Remastered from original tapes / Full blessing/cooperation from Greg Sage / Sturdy, old-style tip on jacket and printed insert / One of the most passionate and influential punk records ever "What more can I say about them? // They started Seattle grunge rock in Portland, 1977" Kurt Cobain // "Ten Records that Changed My Life", Melody Maker 1992.

Max Romeo & The Upsetters

War Ina Babylon - 2025 Reissue

Jackpot Records is extremely proud to announce our re-issue of the revered reggae album 1976’s War Ina Babylon by Max Romeo & The Upsetters. Originally released on Island Records, the album is considered one of the greatest Reggae albums of all time and was a massive influence on the UK punk movement that was just starting to bubble to the surface.

The record’s incredible power belies an unlikely partnership between one of the world’s greatest producers (and experimenters in sound), Lee “Scratch” Perry, and vocalist Max Romeo (who by 1976 had performed on over 120 7” singles) Romeo had been transforming from his “rude” records to writing lyrics with social themes as the era in Jamaica was rife with poverty, gangs, and politically motivated killings. As he was looking to produce protest music at its most powerful alongside music that would never leave the listener’s souls, Lee Perry and Max Romeo started collaborating together. Recorded in two weeks in 1976, utilizing Lee Perry’s kitchen sink production, War Ina Babylon is considered part of Lee Perry’s ‘holy trinity’ Black Ark produced LPs released by Island Records (Junior Murvin’s Police and Thieves and The Heptones’ Party Time being the other classics LPs in the trinity), this LP continues to find new fans with every passing generation.

Silver Apples

Contact - 2025 Repress

The 1969 follow up to Silver Apple’s debut found the duo digging into the far reaches of their songwriting psyches for a darker and more emotionally charged set of songs. While the debut set the stage for a sound the world had never heard before, Contact is where the Silver Apples began inhabiting that sound with more urgency and experimentation. Sourced from the original master tapes plus inner sleeve with unseen master tape box photos. Featuring the original controversial artwork with the Silver Apples in the cockpit of a Pan Am jet on the front, and a plane crash with the duo superimposed over it, on the back. The airline sued both Kapp Records & the band, forcing the band to break up. Their highly influential sound has influenced countless bands from Stereolab, Beastie Boys, Blur and more.

The Wild Magnolias

With "The New Orleans Project"

In 1970, one of the leaders of the musical Mardi Gras Indian Tribes movement, The Wild Magnolias, became the first band to have a commercial recording released as a Mardi Gras Indian group. The band’s legendary performances at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival also helped them launch into the recording of their 1974 debut LP, the self-titled The Wild Magnolias which we are so pleased to present to you here. Easily some of the most fantastic New Orleans funk and soul ever laid down on vinyl. Eight songs that don’t let up with its street-beat funk, call-and-response vocals (with lyrics like “just a few puffs to make you feel all right” leading the charge) and a recording that captures the unhinged mania of so many talented musicians crammed into a studio making a stone-cold classic.

With The New Orleans Project as their backing band including Albert Roberts (who played with Allen Toussaint & The Meters), Larry Panna (The Gaturs), Snooks Eaglin (Professor Longhair as well as the creator of 15 solo records) and Willie Tee (one of the most influential figures in the New Orleans funk and soul scene who arranged & co-wrote on this LP), the NOP beautifully rides along with the assortment of bottles, tambourines, drums and rattles that the tribe members bring to the air. One of the coolest records we’ve ever had the privilege of reissuing (not to mention its beautiful beaded front cover artwork that emblazons the front cover and the iconic photo of the band in all their Mardi Gras splendour that graces the back), this LP will turn heads for those who haven’t heard it yet, while being a repeat funk classic to those who already have it in their bones.
