The Flesh Eaters

A Minute To Pray A Second To Die - 2024 Reissue

Jackpot Records is proud to reissue what many call arguably the greatest album of the punk rock era: The Flesh Eaters’ 1981 punk-noir masterpiece, ‘ A Minute To Pray A Second To Die.

Once referred to as an all-star roots/voodoo combo, The Flesh Eaters could only have crawled out of the myst of the late L.A. 70s punk scene. Fronted by punk poet/composer Chris D. (Desjardins), the band was a satellite for exquisite collaborators that allowed him to bring the full force of his dark, messed-up lyrical nightmares. Members of X, Wall Of Voodoo, Los Lobos, The Blasters, and The Plugz all hopped into his unmarked car to take a drive with Chris D.

Its grabbed-by-the-throat vocals are powerfully buoyed by the tight melodicism emanating from the players on this record (John Doe and DJ Bonebrake from X, Steve Berlin of Los Lobos, Dave Alvin & Bill Bateman of The Blasters). Hell, we even get the perfectly executed John Doe original, “Cyrano de Berger’s Back,” which was re-recorded by X in 1987.

The creators of this record made a pulp novel for your ears with an equal chance to scar your heart. Do not miss out this is punk noir at its greatest.

    The Electric Prunes

The Electric Prunes - 2023 Reissue

Formed in 1966, The Electric Prunes had a novel approach to being a band: deciding to be a recording unit rather than a live performance band. They discovered their signature sound—reverb-drenched, beautifully chaotic garage pop and released one of the most fantastic, fuzzed-out singles of all time, "I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night". Guitar effects drip and splatter throughout (the band had landed an endorsement deal with Vox, who were the leaders in wild effects pedals at that time), and they laid into the material with brute force (and the occasional gentle touch).

1967 Debut Record from Psychedelic Rock Icons. Cut from the Original Analog Master tapes by Kevin Gray. Featured as the first track on the Legendary Influential 60’s garage music compilation "Nuggets".

      The Electric Prunes

      Underground - 2023 Reissue

Due to their successful debut, the band’s producer was in demand, leaving little time to devote to the Prunes. The band took full advantage of the adults not being in the room and created an incredible follow-up of original material on 1968’s “Underground". Here is where the band really leaned heavily into their knack for challenging pop. This album came to define what later gravediggers of the garage genre came to devour: Iggy Pop, The Ramones, and Patti Smith all took a riff here; an attitude there. 1967 Second Studio Record from Psychedelic Rock Icons. Cut from the Original Analog Master tapes by Kevin Gray. Features "The Great Banana Hoax".

        The Electric Prunes

        Mass In F Minor - 2023 Reissue

In 1968, The Electric Prunes collaborated with classically-trained musician David Axelrod to create "Mass in F Minor", a religious-based rock opera. Even though the album is a head-scratcher side by side (BY SIDE!) with their previous records, this has become one of the era’s most bizarre and hypnotic releases. Sung in Latin with the band hanging onto Axelrod’s ambitious arrangements; you’ve never heard anything like it. It created enough of a cultural mark that the lead track ‘Kyrie Eleison’ was even used in the movie that defined the late 60’s generation, Easy Rider. 1968 Psychedelic Concept Record Arranged By David Axelrod. Cut from the Original Analog Master tapes by Kevin Gray. ‘Kyrie Eleison’ featured in the movie and soundtrack for Easy Rider.

          TRACK LISTING

          Mudhoney

Five Dollar Bob's Mock Cooter Stew - 2023 Reissue

First Time Reissued, Includes The Original Cover Artwork. Out of Print in any format for 30 years.

Most of us likely missed MUDHONEY’s ‘Five Dollar Bob’s Mock Cooter Stew’ when it first cratered here on Earth in late 1993, but we can ALL learn from our previous mistakes RIGHT NOW!!! Out of print in any physical format for 30 years (!), here is their Reprise mini-LP for all to devour in real-time and roll in its naked glory. Initially recorded by the band as an offering for their fans to devour while they were between full-length albums, the majority of ‘Five Dollar’ was recorded in one short, inspired burst on August 1, 1993, between the hours of 9:30 and 10:15 PM (with friend and Fastback Kur(d)t Bloch egging them on from the production booth). They smashed this out in just 45 minutes.

It might be the band at their most ‘Stooge-esque’ since there is no flowery imagery; nothing to misinterpret; just in-your-face blunt despair (in that department, Black Flag’s ‘Damaged’ LP comes to mind, especially in Mudhoney’s gleefully punishing highlight: ‘No Song III’). Within two seconds of any of these songs hitting your mind (maybe even within one second), you knew it could only be Mudhoney. You can instantly recognize it, because they truly own it/you/the universe.

            TRACK LISTING

            1. In The Blood
            2. No Song III

            Dr. John

Gris Gris (Original MONO Mix) - 2023 Repress

1968 Debut Record, this is the Original MONO mix. The first time this has been reissued and its on Limited Green Vinyl. 1968 Debut album from the king of the psychedelic bayou – the hypnotic, mystical and powerful sound of the swamp coming to life. As he became Dr. John (real name Mac Rebennack), it was his LA session work with musicians like Sonny & Cher, Canned Heat, and Zappa that allowed him to start conjuring up his visions of guitar psych-pop to walk alongside his authentic New Orleans upbringing.

While “Gris Gris” contains moments that make it a type stamped symbol of its era, it might have well been made in outer space. Recorded in its own psychic and stylistic vacuum, the album borrows as heavily from the New Orleans’ musical culture in which he grew up as it does the looming continuous pulse of war, heavy drugs, and the end of the free love/hippie movement. The album was taken under the wing of a small percentage of the “underground” upon its release in 1968 and did not find a true following for years.

The group created California psych/rock music that was both fragile and dreamy. Part One was originally released in 1967 on Frank Sinatra’s Reprise Records. Jackpot Dub - Rare Dubs From Jackpot Records

The productions of producer Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee were so extensive in the early to mid 1970s that labels were created just to handle his ever expanding output. Three labels that came about during this time when dub was king were Jackpot. Justice and Attack. Here Jamaican Recordings look at the Jackpot label and have compiled a collection of some of its finest dub cuts.

Jackpot Records was formed in the early 1970s as a subsidiary of Trojan Records to handle the output from the hitmaker from Jamaica. Bunny ’Striker’ Lee was at the birth of dub and worked closely with Dubmaster King Tubby, having his masters stored at Tubbys allowed his rhythms to be worked on by Tubby, whether it was to remix or add vocals to an existing tape, the new interest in the dubbed version would see the next single being worked on for its version side.

"You wanna know something? Every now and then say, "What the fuck." "What the fuck" gives you freedom. Freedom brings opportunity. Opportunity makes your future." Risky Business 1983. Inspired by a "What the fuck” philosophy, "Loosen The Lead And Spoil The Dogs" is a throwback to days when artists crafted records to be listened to as albums.

This third full-length from Colossal Yes (a project masterminded by Comets On Fire drummer Utrillo Kushner) embraces unhinged power pop, bleary-eyed classic rock, and channels the late-night, art with meaning vibe, of early 70’s singer-songwriters. The result is an album that rides high with optimism like an unscratched lottery ticket. Lyrics are placed in the forefront of the action drawing inspiration from various literary and pop culture topics. When all assembled the end product is a canon of lyrical imagery and sun-soaked open-ended possibility.

The ten songs that comprise "Loosen The Lead..." concentrate on thought and a groove, ultimately ending up with the only acceptable conclusion... "What the fuck." Joining Kushner in this recording were friends and cohorts including Ben Chasney (Six Organs of Admittance, Comets On Fire, Raganda), Ben Flashman (Comets On Fire), Noel Von Harmonson (Sic Alps, Comets On Fire) as well as members of Aisler's Set, East Bay Grease, Howling Rain and many others.

                          Weightless

One of the new breed of American band to appear on the excellent Munich records label. Laconic, indie rock but laced with an Americana alternative country feel that at times is like new roots music. Then they sound like Crazyhorse or some blues band from Chicago. It couldn't originate in any country but the U.S. and in vocalist/songwriter Rusty Miller they have hit the Jackpot.
