Mystery Jets return with ‘A Hole To See The Sky Through’, a conceptually rich new album that acts as the inward-facing counterpart to ‘Curve of the Earth’, shifting focus from vast external landscapes to the intimate ways we perceive and process the world. Inspired by Yoko Ono’s artwork of the same name (used with permission as the cover art) and her recent London exhibition, the record embraces the idea of finding meaning, hope, and perspective through absence, limitation, and reframing.

Featuring recordings made between 1969 and 1975, it’s now reissued on vinyl to celebrate the album’s 50th Anniversary as part of the 'Spirit of ‘76' campaign, celebrating the best music released that year.

Featuring 'Teacher', 'Aqualung', 'Locomotive Breath' and 'Living In The Past', it also includes the non-album song 'Rainbow Blues'. This special edition has been cut as a half-speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road; the source master and cutting lathe run at half-speed, allowing for greater precision and sonically a better high-frequency response. The album has subsequently been certified gold in the UK and platinum in the United States.

Jetenderpaul Presents 'The Modal Lines' achieves in 13 tracks something almost unheard of--irony without emptiness, homage without imitation. Jetenderpaul’s third full-length finds these post-graduate indie popsters embracing pop melodies in the midst of their bedroom recording experimentation. Each of the 13 tracks on 'The Modal Lines' are in the 3 minute realm, giving the tracks a greater sense of cohesion and melodic development than their previous efforts and are brimming with glorious transmogrifications. There is still experimentation with complicating pop formulas being mixed and changed, but still plenty of sugary hooks. Comparisons to The Flaming Lips, Guided By Voices, or Ween, but also Elephant Six related bands such as Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power, or Of Montreal, with a lesser amount of that overall sense of psychedelia. If the songs’ hooks and crooks aren’t enough for you, Jetenderpaul uses an arsenal of heterodox instruments / sounds in the mix: sitar, bells, tympani, strings, analogues . . . Some people hop genres, but here, as elsewhere, JTP conflates and confuses them. Little wonder there's pieces of rubentine pop, as well as old tyme rock & roll, and a myriad of other fragments included herein. Jetenderpaul is faithful to its remote origins as chameleons of modern music. Formed in Olathe, Kansas in 1996, Jetenderpaul take the Midwestern heart and run it through a blender of pop paranoia. You could call it subversive oldies or a Beatles reckoning but the end result is aggressive music with soulful humblings and rumblings.

Naked Raygun were an extraordinary staple in the Chicago music scene—beginning in the early 80s and continuing until their quiet demise in the early 90s. Their music showed the world that punk rockers could play and be really good at it. Founded in Chicago in 1980 by Marco Pezzati, Jeff Pezzati, and Santiago Durango, Naked Raygun released six albums during their eleven-year career that would change the sound of punk rock indefinitely. The band is widely recognized as being one of the most influential punk bands of the 80s. Their anthemic style incorporated politics in a uniquely accessible way, melding pop and hardcore into one cohesive sound that would later be dubbed "The Chicago Sound."

Shortly after their first release, 'Basement Screams', Durango left to join Big Black permanently and was replaced by John Haggerty, whose unique style of buzzsaw guitar would define Raygun's sound for their next four albums. Additionally, Pierre Kezdy replaced Camilo Gonzalez and Eric Spicer took over drums for Jim Colao. In 1990, Haggerty left the band to start Pegboy. Bill Stephens joined the band for their final studio release entitled 'Raygun...Naked Raygun'.

Behold! Yes, Blue Butterfly, one of the absolute stunners on the revered Selected Sound label is finally available for all the beat-heads. Heavyweight library funk with a psychedelic touch, the super in-demand Blue Butterfly from *deep breath* Hardy's Jet Band, Orchestra Klaus Wuesthoff, Jan Troysen Band and Orchestra Gary Pacific - was originally released in 1971. Incredibly ahead of its time, it's been rare and sought-after for decades.

For many aficionados, this is the best Selected Sound release. Loaded with fuzzy wah-wah guitar, deep flute-lines atop soulful psych-rock breakbeats and huge organ action, its uncompromising funk will blow you away. Sampled for many hip hop beats and dropped by well known rare groove DJs around the world, one jewel in particular from this glorious German vault needs little introduction. The intro to Orchestra Gary Pacific's mesmeric "Soft Wind" rides the illest, crispest drum break you've perhaps never heard - like, the drum break to end them all - alongside a smooth, deep bass line from the heavens. It featured notoriously on the beloved Dusty Fingers comps of the 90s and was brilliantly sampled by Pacewon for his eternal "Sunroof Top". Just listen and be dazzled.

Beyond this mini-masterpiece, the other killer tracks offer brilliance in abundance. Hardy's Jet Band take control of the full A side, and it's full of dynamic psych-funk bombs. Hard, "big city" industrial groovers. In particular, the initial one-two of "Sorry, Doc!" and "Wind It Up" provide thrilling funky-blues rock instrumentals showcasing relentless guitars, flutes, sax and organ, the latter containing gorgeous, hypnotic breakdowns; these tracks just slay. The title track, "Blue Butterfly" is a real deep strut of a track with fantastic soloing from guitar and flute over crisp drums whilst the highway banger "What You Call To Be Free" certainly sounds a lot like unbridled, rhythmical liberty.

On the flip, the ghost-riding "Lady In Space" is a string-drenched acid-western foxtrot. Yep. “Pop Happening” by Jan Troysen Band is a heavy, druggy psych-fuzz organ groover whilst their slow beat-organ-flute gem "A Blue Message" is a gorgeous psych floater conjuring deeply strange frontier lands. Preceding their monster "Soft Wind", the soulful, uptempo groover “Ghetto Gap” by Orchestra Gary Pacific contains solo piano and flute whilst closing out the set is the free-and-easy samba beat of "So Far".

Founded in the late 60s by German composer and musician Klaus Netzle (who recorded under the alias Claude Larson for Sonoton) Selected Sound began as a production music company specialising in jazz, orchestral and electronic recordings. You can’t miss those early LPs in their iconic glossy metallic copper sleeves with minimal German typography. Serious, classy stuff.

The audio for Blue Butterfly has been remastered for vinyl by Be With regular Simon Francis whilst Richard Robinson has handled reproducing the glossy metallic (iconic) original Selected Sound sleeve. Essential.

Since releasing 2018’s ‘The More I Sleep The Less I Dream’, We Were Promised Jetpacks’ Adam Thompson, Sean Smith and Darren Lackie have embraced change head-on. Amicably parting ways with guitarist Michael Palmer marked a transitory moment in the band’s acclaimed career, one that would be cemented by events to come. Entering 2020 as a trio with a handful of songs written and a small tour under their belts, the world around them came to a sudden halt. Yet despite the unquestionable hardship that the lockdown brought with it, for a band looking to rebuild following a dramatic change, it also proved to be a blessing in disguise. “I guess it ended up being a lot more collaborative between the three of us,” Sean notes of their fifth studio record, ‘Enjoy The View’.

As well as providing the space to think more broadly about their own roles in the band, isolation also allowed them to approach their collective sound in new ways. “If you’re trying to write a part when two other people are smashing their instruments it’s not the easiest thing,” Adam laughs. “Writing remotely, you could mute parts and work on things in your head. It just gave us a bit more creative freedom to try different things.” With the space to focus on the structure of the songs over what is immediately possible in a practice room, the band shifted gears. “We’ve always considered ourselves a live band more than a studio band,” Darren notes, explaining how the past twelve months have forced a change. “This was more about focussing on making a really great album rather than thinking about how we play it live.”

Fifteen years into their career, the trio are more focussed than ever. “We are doing this for ourselves and the people who like our music and get something out of it,” Adam gleams, “I’m really excited about being able to show them the new record.” “We’re all very appreciative of the people who are still listening to us,” Darren adds, “it pushes us to keep getting better”.

Born and raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, Bette Smith reconnected with her musical roots in Memphis and Mississippi – and fulfilled a promise to her late brother in the process. Recording her debut full-length album in Mississippi brought her to the roots of the gospel she sang in the church and the soul music she heard on the block on hot summer nights growing up on the corner of Nostrand and Fulton. “The south came to me and grabbed me and pulled me down there. The southern migration came up and got me. My neighbors in Bed-Stuy influenced me,” she says. Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers) produced the album at Water Valley’s Dial Back Sound.'Jetlagger' is a mixture of originals and interpretations of tracks by the likes of Famous L. ‘For best results, listen with your eyes closed and stereo loud’ recommends the biography of the Devon-born Alembic, whose sound would have you believing that he spent his childhood growing up deep within the Congolese jungle. With his six track EP, Shadow Tapes, Alembic blends together head bopping hip-hop grooves and electronic hubbub which are rooted by African tribal percussion, mixed with a hint of South American funk. Tracks such as Freedom that exhibit shades of an early Bonobo, while Dundun and Faranuka only need vocals from David Byrne and Chuck D added to them before they feature on a N.A.S.A. album. Shadow Tapes is an enthralling myriad of sounds that oozes vibrancy on a splendid experimental musical voyage.

Jethro Fox is a Biblically named singer from a family of Atheists, and his celestial music is set to light up 2012. Brought up in Colchester, Essex and sharing a proud 6th Form College music teacher with Damon Albarn, Jethro moved to Liverpool to study and has since become a central character in a once again thriving music community. A multi-instrumentalist, he has played in most of the new bands in the area’s resurgent scene, which is centered on the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts.

Now playing under his own name, Jethro’s own music is urgent and life affirming in a manner that belies the rainy gray of Liverpool. Characterized by his already-distinctive golden harmonies, and the echo of school halls and cavernous churches, his music suggests a deep affinity with the classic symphonic pop of The Beach Boys, Roy Orbison and Grizzly Bear.

A few months ago, Jethro posted his first track online, ‘Before’. Received to great acclaim (“One of the most exciting musicians on the planet”, John Kennedy, XFM”), Jethro was subsequently invited to record a Steve Lamacq Maida Vale Session for 6 Music: an almost unprecedented opportunity for an artist yet to release a record.

That’s all set to change with the release of his debut single, ‘Blinding Light’, through Tough Love Records (Weird Dreams, Girls Names). Backed by ‘Lonely Sound’, it’s the perfect introduction into Jethro’s immaculately conceived world. "A staggering set of vocal chords...there’s not a great deal of ground that it fails to cover." The album was recorded in Austin, Texas and Streatham, London and was co-produced by Mystery Jets and Dan Carey (Hot Chip, Franz Ferdinand, Emiliana Torrini).

Mystery Jets are Blaine Harrison, Will Rees, Kai Fish and Kapil Trivedi. On the making of the album ‘Radlands’, Blaine explains: “We’ve always wanted to make a record in America and after touring ‘Serotonin’ the time felt perfect to go and do it. Our first three albums were entirely conceived and recorded in London so going out to Austin felt like the furthest place from everything we knew. We arrived with a handful of songs, but one in particular felt like it captured the spirit of why we had come there. It was called ‘Radlands’ (a fusion of the 1970s Terrence Malick film ‘Badlands’ and Redlands, Keith Richard’s Sussex estate), which is also what we named our studio; a big old wooden house on the banks of the Colorado River. All we brought on the plane were the guitars on our backs, so we ended up borrowing all this amazing valve gear from an old guy called jack who ran a little studio up in the hills, which is why the songs sound the way they do. In the daytime we wrote lyrics on the porch and in the evenings a family of deer would gather in the back yard to hear us play. Some nights we drove into town to drink and bring people back to play on the songs. When we arrived home, it was hard to believe any of it even happened. It somehow all felt like a strange dream. But when Dan Carey heard it and invited us down to his studio we listened back to everything and it was all there, it was real. All we were missing were some gospel singers, which he found in the Streatham Community Ladies Choir... Twelve months on, and we are gearing up to take ‘Radlands’ on the road.”

Mystery Jets are back with their second album. "Twenty One" is an awe-inspiring collection of oddball pop songs. A clear departure from their debut album "Making Dens", these four young men have grown up in more ways than one. Produced predominately by DJ legend Erol Alkan and with one track, ("Half In Love With Elizabeth") helmed by veteran British producer Stephen Street, it's a huge stylistic and emotional leap forward for the band.

Hanging out with the Gallagher brothers has definitely rubbed off on Jet, as this title track from their second album proves. "Shine On" is an anthemic rock ballad with Bealtes-ey guitars and a gospel choir backing.

Debut UK release from this Australian band who're causing a bit of a stir at the moment. Good old fashioned 70s style rock with a heavy Rolling Stones influence.

For fans of The Anniversary, Rival Schools, Death Cab For Cutie. Jet Black Summer have already done the groundwork for this debut album "Ladder of Divine Ascent", it presents a contrasting of styles (emo sensitive / heavy rocking) with often existential, yet equally optimistic lyrical themes and a raw energy few bands ever manage to capture on record.

Limited edition split single from the Jonathon Whiskey label. Glider play a beautiful warm, atmospheric instrumental. Jet Johnson play a funkier groove full of strange bleeps, reminiscent of And The Native Hipsters (for those of you that are old enough to remember them!).
