The World Is Still Here And So Are We

The heralded UK band’s first album since 2004 and first for Ipecac Recordings.

Having formed in the late nineteen-nineties and releasing music, if that is what it was, from 2000-2004, Mclusky disbanded soon afterwards in a slow motion farce of not enough drama to get much press off the back of it. Now they are back fuelled initially by spite but now enjoying it too much not to do it, and playing to crowds in the UK, US and Australia which are much bigger - and more hygienically inclined - than in their so-called heyday. So far nobody has complained, except for one guy in Leeds (and he was clearly on ketamine). They are writing a new album - entitled 'the world is still here and so are we' due for release in may 2025.

    Melvins

    Thunderball

The new album featuring the 1983 lineup of Buzz & Mike Dillard. Plus special guests Void Manes and Ni Maitres. Formed over 40 years ago in Seattle, they were one of the pioneers of the grunge and sludge metal scenes.

a little history… and some opinions from Buzz Osborne -
"Mike Dillard is the original drummer for the Melvins, we’ve been friends since high school. We met in Montesano, a small town on the coast of Sashington state. We had moved there from an even smaller town. I hated everything about it. I hated the people, hated the teachers, hated the cops, hated the weather, hated how isolated it was. It was like living on the dark side of the moon. I knew no one and had no friends at all which was fine by me If I had a chance to do it over i’d quit high school as soon as i could. High school was a complete waste of time. My own classmates proved themselves the enemy so finding someone I could relate to was just great. Mike was immediately impressed with all the weird music I was into. Up to that point I hadn’t met anyone with any an interest in any of my musical discoveries. It was an amazing time in the history of music and literally no one was interested. We were surrounded by mediocrity, stupidity, prejudice, and dangerous rednecks. We learned to play music together. We grew up together and have remained friends all these years. 'Thunderball' is the third Melvins 1983 record we have made together. I wanted this one to be bombastic. I think it is. I’m already planning a fourth one that will be even more uncompromising. A real shit show."

        Venamoris

        To Cross Or To Burn

The second release of soulful dark pop from legendary drummer Dave Lombardo and singer-songwriter Paula Lombardo

The courtship of Dave and Paula Lombardo is the kind of thing that would make for an inspired romantic comedy. Picture it: The man who raised the bar for heavy metal drumming rendezvous with a beautiful woman whose musical background included backing up legacy acts in Las Vegas and trying to break into Nashville as a singer/songwriter. Fortunately for the world, their musical union has manifested as Venamoris, whose Ipecac debut 'To Cross Or To Burn' goes far to explode preconceived notions while constructing captivating new possibilities.

Obviously, the indefatigable Dave Lombardo’s bonafides as a world-class drummer are well-known. But while he drafted the blueprint that would define thrash-metal drumming, he’s also applied his finesse to solo percussion (2023’s 'Rites Of Percussion', also on Ipecac), hip hop and classical music, as well as boundary-pushing recordings and performances with everyone from John Zorn’s ensembles to punk icons Misfits and Mr. Bungle. 'To Cross…' is another milestone in his storied career, where he’s added guitar, bass and considerable production techniques to his sonic skill-set. “The only thing that rivals how many drums we have [at home] is how many guitars Dave has,” says Paula, laughing. “So he plays guitar quite a bit on this album.”

Paula is truly a dynamic musical force powered with impressive vocal prowess, a deftness on piano and synthesizers and a great instinct for alluring lyrics, melodies and arrangements. At 18 years old, she was a backing singer as part of Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton’s enclave, which taught her grace under pressure when you’re performing multiple shows in an evening and perfection was demanded every day. She left Vegas to head to Nashville to continue her career in music, but by her own words, “It just wasn’t the right fit.”

          Jean Claude Vannier

Jean Claude Vannier Et Son Orchestre De Mandolines

The project was born from an unusual encounter between the man the press calls “The Rare Bird” and the famous mandolinist from Marseilles, a pioneer in the revival of this small Mediterranean lute.

A long way from his fellow Vladimir Cosma, Ennio Morricone, Lalo Schifrin, Jean Claude Petit and Claude Bolling, all of whom wrote concertos for Vincent Beer-Demander’s virtuoso mandolin.

Jean Claude Vannier has created an album that is both poetic and out of step, in which the mandolin is multiplied to form a singular orchestral sound palette, mingled with the accordion’s soufflet and the composer’s use of the solo mandolin: taping, bottleneck, percussion, treble.

A pinch of strings, a hint of childhood, melodies that touch the heart, orchestration that’s never expected... these are the emotions that emerge from this album by Jean Claude Vannier.

            King Buzzo

This Machine Kills Artists / Gift Of Sacrifice - 2024 Reissue

King Buzzo, a.k.a. Buzz Osborne, is the singer, guitar player and founder of the enormously influential band, the Melvins. His innovative approach to songwriting, and guitar playing, has influenced countless musicians, and turned leagues of music lovers into ardent fans. Renowned for his pioneering use of down-tuned strings, Buzzo masterfully blended his punk and metal influences, and in turn, he created a groundbreaking new sound in heavy music. Over Osborne’s extensive career, which originated in the small hamlet of Montesano, Wash. in 1983, he has released over 30 albums under the Melvins’ moniker, two solo albums 'Gift of Sacrifice' (2020) and 'This Machine Kills Artists' (2014), as well as a number of collaborative projects including Fantomas and Crystal Fairy.

'Gift of Sacrifice' had Buzz team up with Trevor Dunn, who might be most widely known for his work with Mr. Bungle, the eclectic and unpredictable Northern California band he co-founded in 1985, but his career outside of Mr. Bungle has been just as notable. Also a member of Fantomas, Trevor Dunn’s Trio-Convulsant, Tomahawk and Melvins Lite.

              Dead Cross

              II

When Dead Cross released their self-titled debut in the Summer of 2017, Mike Patton, in conversation with Rolling Stone, said “I’m not some young tough guy trying to prove a point anymore. For me to make a record like this, it’s entirely a musical adventure. I just think it’s fun, and it makes me smile a lot.” Visually, and audibly, Dead Cross is a snarling beast from some of music’s most experimental and dare we say, hardcore, musicians: Dave Lombardo (drums), Michael Crain (guitar), Justin Pearson (bass) and the aforementioned Patton on vocals, but at its core it’s a group of friends having fun, paying homage to the music they love and asking music fans to come along for the ride. It’s that very friendship that brought the band members back together once again and gave us II, their new release out Oct 28th, 2022.

                Melvins

                Five Legged Dog

The Melvins’ first ever acoustic collection, featuring 36 songs including classics like ‘Night Goat’, ‘Honey Bucket’ and ‘Billy Fish’, as well as covers of Brainiac, The Rolling Stones and Alice Cooper tracks. This newly recorded acoustic collection features a career-spanning collection of songs, from 1987’s ‘Gluey Porch Treatments’ to 2017’s ‘A Walk With Love & Death’ - the entire gamut of the legendary band’s catalogue is represented.

“I knew I wanted to do something ridiculously big,” explains Buzz Osborne of the band’s first ever acoustic offering. “36 songs reimagined by us acoustically is certainly ridiculous but it works. The magic of the songs is still there regardless of it being acoustic. Since we weren’t touring we had the time to do something of this size. I’m very excited about this record. Dale and Steven did a fantastic job on this. I think it’s a very special record. I can’t think of anyone else who’s done something like this.”

The band previewed the impressive offering with the release of ‘Night Goat’. Dale Crover noted: “I think people will be surprised that we can do an acoustic version of a song like ‘Night Goat’ without losing any of the heaviness. We also worked hard on the vocal arrangements. People are going to freak out!”

‘Five Legged Dog’ also features acoustic versions of several rarities from the influential band’s overflowing discography, including a cover of Redd Kross’ ‘Charlie’ (from the limited edition ‘Escape From LA’ single), ‘Outside Chance,’ a Turtles cover from the ‘Slithering Slaughter’ single and new interpretations of The Rolling Stones ‘Sway’, Brainiac’s ‘Flypaper’ and Fred Neil’s ‘Everybody’s Talking’ (popularised by Harry Nilsson). Butthole Surfer Jeff Pinkus lends his vocals (and banjo) to ‘Don’t Forget to Breathe’ and ‘Everybody’s Talking’.
