    Heartless Fools

Heartless Fools is a collection of works exploring multiplicity and often contradictory ideas. Supported by a Creative Renewal Fellowship from the Arts Council of Indianapolis, many of the works were realized and recorded in January 2018 at Greenhouse Studios in Reykjavík, Iceland. Since these initial recordings, the music has grown through far-reaching collaborations with musicians in the worlds of jazz, classical, and pop. Album credits include experimental pop trio Square Peg Round Hole, vocalists Isaiah Robinson and Hanna Benn, and Icelandic cellist Þórdís Gerður Jóns-dóttir.

While the music itself is not intended to be political, the title Heartless Fools refers to the response of two characters to the current political landscape. The first is working through shock and grief as they awake to the realities of this world, and is trying to make sense of it all. The other, fueled by an imagined loss of cultural identity, is full of a rage that causes them to do inhumane things. This shows up in the music as a struggle between order and chaos, contemplation and impatience. The works constantly push in pull, both internally and with one another.

      Dan Croll

      Fools

The sumptuous 'Fools', Dan's fourth album, follows 2020's 'Grand Plan', a critical hit which captured his early experiences of life in LA and effortlessly exchanged his synth-pop of the past for sepia-tinged folk rock with Laurel Canyon leanings.

It jumps forward, through Covid to the end of an intense three year relationship, the death of Dan's grandmother back in Britain and rare trips home as restrictions lifted. Sonically it spreads its net wider -– country, disco and woozy psychedelics join the Carole King and James Taylor nods on Grand Plan.

A death, a pandemic and a break-up could have made for a sombre sounding album, but Dan took a different route, finding beauty where he could and poking fun at his own foolishness.

Both albums were recorded largely live at the legendary Spacebomb Studios in Richmond, Virginia with Matthew E. White (Natalie Prass, Flo Morrissey, Slow Club) and his four-piece house band. This time, Dan co-produced, tinkering with sounds late into the night to add his own stamp to the record.

First single received coverage from DIY, Clash, Mystic Sons, Various Small Flames, #BrandNew, Original Rock, Thank Folk For That, Music on the Rox and more.

        We Wild Blood

        Vicious Virtues

We Wild Blood will release their second LP Vicious Virtues on Hot Fools Records in summer 2020. Moving away from the gritty, greased-palm themes of their last record, Vicious Virtues looks inwardly to examine shifting ideas of self and the trappings of identity and mortality. Based in North London’s New River Studios, the band have been expanding their sound and personnel since their creation as a 2-piece in 2011 with Dan Hunt (Luminous Bodies) and Andy Clydesdale (Shjrunken Heads) now flanked by Ben Colhoun Walker (Canoe Club, Ben Colhoun) and Marion Andrau (The Wharves, Melting Hand, Reciprocate, Underground Railroad, Shjrunken Heads).

WWB’s 2016 EP How About Never and 2019 album Blood/Money (both released by Hominid Sounds) received positive reviews by The Quietus, Drowned in Sound and Echoes and Dust, and led to live shows with Deaf Kids, John, Rakta and Oneida. They were due to play London’s Raw Power Festival and Cardiff Psych Fest, and now are planning an adjusted and alternative presentation of their live set in the context of the ongoing health crisis.

          Howard Marks Reads Kermit Leveridge

          Lies And Other Fools

THIS IS A RECORD STORE DAY 2014 EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED TO ONE PER PERSON.

'Lies And Other Fools' is a poem written by Kermit and narrated by Howard, which has been pressed onto a limited edition one-sided 7” single for RSD. The poem harks back to Kermit’s heroin addiction, which so nearly killed him when he injected with a dirty needle during the Black Grape days, and ended up in a critical condition with septicemia, the infection causing serious damage when a ball of bacteria ripped off one of his heart valves, resulting in a major operation a few years ago, which, thankfully, was successful in repairing the damage, giving him a new lease of life. Back from the brink, Kermit’s is a tale of redemption - his life now completely turned around with the birth of his daughter, Xian, just a few weeks ago.

            The Traditional Fools

            The Traditional Fools

In The Red is proud to announce the re-release of the selftitled album by The Traditional Fools, a garage-punkthrash-surf trio consisting of Ty Segall, Andrew Luttrell and David Fox. They recorded and released their lone fulllength back in 2008—it sold out quickly and has never been re-pressed until now. Recorded live in the studio, The Traditional Fools is low on fidelity and high in energy. The band’s sound is a perfect combination of ’60s garage, vintage surf reverb and early LA punk performed with trashy, reckless abandon. Covers by Redd Kross and Thee Headcoats give an idea where these guys were coming from, and songs about bikini babes and shredsticks tell where they were at. Grab a bike, tank top, sunglasses and every beer you can find, and enjoy surf-punk done right.

            • Reissue of sole album from surf-garagepunk band featuring Ty Segall
            • First time on CD; vinyl includes digital download coupon
