Hardware peddlers First Cut return with their forth installment. Gotta love this label's ethos - shining a light on the lesser discovered knob twiddlers and the shadowy DIY electronix scene; offering a platform for producers that would otherwise be buried too deep into their gear to ever get round to actually releasing anything.

Giles Armstrong has spent years in the so-called 'SCENE' but never actually made a record, until now. Whilst admitting it's not the most polished or technically accomplished; Giles says he's managed to get his personality across through a select but impressive array of synthesizers, noise boxes and rhythm machines.

With hefty kicks and a steady, deliberate tempo, the tracks unfurl at their own pace, but pack enough punch for the most demanding of club crowds. Non-linear arrangements hint at a producer not bogged down with tradition and in turn, offer up moments of ingenuity and expression. Strong stuff carrying this maverick label forward.

Reflection Port Assembly

Retribution EP

Second release on newly minted, future cult label First Cut. A limited run, hand-crafted, DIY electronics / mutant techno label straight outta Dublin Ireland.

Number two comes from Reflection Port Assembly, a laser CAD operator who met the label at the wonderfully named Gary's Gang clubnight in Dublin. A little lighter and more gentile than the gutteral acid of number one, it treads a common line between Pender Street Steppers, Anthony Naples and Apron Records - quite stripped back but scuzzy, fuzzy and rough around the edges. Warm, messy, flawed and charming; perfect for enjoying with friends down the pub on a Saturday evening.

Another essential future classic for fans of DIY electronics and hardware powered dance music. RIYL: Cerberus Future Technologies, Apron, Northern Powerhouse, Crow Castle Cuts etc.

Matt Flanagan, previously known as DeFeKT, ESS and Tinfoil aliases, returns on new label First Cut with some fine tuned hardware abuse. Originally taken from a 30 minute machine jam, the three tracks you see here have been culled from said jam and make up the first release on the label. Perfectly fitting alongside present day tweakers Northern Powerhouse and Cerberus Future Technologies, these mutant transmissions growl, snarl and snap at the listener through biting sawtooths, nagging acid lines and abrasive drum machine sharps. Made in Dublin and with only 100 copies available worldwide, this is exactly the type of maverick dance shit we got nuts for here at Piccadilly. Top stuff - one of two to drop this week!
