BSCBR

Master Of Rehearsal

BSCBR is a group of Black Sabbath lovers hailing from New York City. The group consists of Brad Truax (Interpol), Mick Barr (Ocrilim, Krallice), Greg Fox (Liturgy, Ex Eye), Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), and Angel Deradoorian (Dirty Projectors, Deradoorian). After a music residency in Berlin where Zinner, Deradoorian, and Fox met up, the first formation of the band was created. Zinner had the idea of bringing the music to NYC (when Truax and Barr joined) where the band received immediate attention and sold out their first concert. It was surprising for everyone, but they just kept on playing, and the people kept on showing up. It's been one of their favorite bands to play in ever. The love of Sabbath has brought so much joy to this group and there's no greater feeling than spreading that joy to fellow fans.

    William Cashion

    Postcard Music

William Cashion's debut solo album Postcard Music is a collection of sound experiments influenced by meditation, traveling, and the ocean. In crafting his first solo record, Cashion experimented in the studio, driven by a potentially infinite riddle: "what is the sound of a song that has no beginning and no end?" - a question which explores music’s unique ability to distort our sense of the passage of time - or even take us outside it. The resulting album builds upon the most intriguing results of months of exploratory writing sessions.

Future Islands bassist William Cashion collects postcards. Years in one of the country’s hardest-touring bands often find him rushing from destination to destination without time to take a deep breath, let alone be present in each locale’s sights and sounds. But bringing home postcards helps coalesce ephemeral moments into souvenirs he can return to and access again.

In crafting his first solo record, Cashion experimented in the studio, driven by a potentially infinite riddle: “what is the sound of a song that has no beginning and no end?” Exploring music’s unique ability to distort our sense of the passage of time—or even take us outside it—Cashion welcomed elements of repetition and chance into his process. The sessions were also highly informed by meditation, a new regular practice Cashion introduced to his daily routine during this period. The resulting album builds upon the most intriguing results of months of exploratory writing sessions.

Acclaimed UK designer Chris Bigg helped visualize the world of Postcard Music, and Cashion’s wife, visual artist Elena Johnston contributed a painting to the album's inner sleeve. Cashion and Johnston have previously worked together on a series of collaborative paintings and brightly colored, curved neon light sculptures.

During downtime between projects, he retreats to the beaches of North Carolina near where Future Islands formed. The eleven songs here were recorded in sessions in the Outer Banks, the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and Cashion’s current hometown Baltimore.

Ty Segall and Brian Chippendale (Lightning Bolt) are Wasted Shirt. Their debut, collaborative album, Fungus II, is out February 28th on Famous Class Records.

Read below for Henry Rollins’ words on the project.

“Ty's 2019 album, First Taste, and the new Lighting Bolt album, Sonic Citadel, are easily some of the best material either entity has ever released so if these two happened to find themselves in the same recording studio, a fan just might entertain elevated expectation levels. In fact, some might actually show signs of enthusiasm, even excitement at the fact that from July 5 -13, 2018, in the air-conditioning free environs of Ty's home studio, the duo, eventually calling themselves Wasted Shirt, wrecked the joint as thoroughly as you hoped they would.

The album is exploding euphoria from start to finish. The more you play it, the better it kabongs you upside your head. Hectic doesn't even begin to describe it. Brian and Ty, two mere particles in the grand scheme, collide at high speed, the technicians dive for cover, the reaction is recorded. Mutation is achieved. This is Freedom Rock. Turn up the volume. Hasten your emancipation. Sonic joy awaits.”

      STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: We all know what Ty Segall sound like, and i'm pretty sure we know what Lightning Bolt sound like but this, 'Wasted Shirt' is the perfect example of the outcome sometimes being more than the sum of it's already considerable parts. Heavy af, brilliantly produced and absolutely ram-packed with groove, 'Fungus II' will be blowing minds for some time to come.
