ENVY

On this debut EP from Sydney's Cop Envy, the producer comes roaring out of the starting gates with a screeching combo of slow-mo acid and analogue techno. 'BGFT' could easily be tucked away in a Drexciya album somewhere, resonant 303's squeal out a mid-range bass pattern while grainy hi-hats smash out burning strips of saturated fire. 'Inner Another' is a bit more of a minimal affair, percussion loops layering over each-other before rising into a cacophony of sycopated alternate hits, hypnotic groove growing to boiling point before a perfect single-note melody rides the waves perfectly, giving just enough pitched rhythm to keep things moving.  The B-Side jumps straight back into the heat with 'Handle Broker', an echoing and rousing space-acid stormer, as effective and hypnotic as ever, before finishing on the Manse Edit of BGFT, a frantic industrial take on the original track.

STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: A hot and saturated acid trip through space, resonant 303 basslines and skittering analogue drums fly through the cosmos, multiplying into a frenzy of overdriven atmospheres and pitch-perfect percussion.

Wires & Wool

New single from this indie-rock quartet from Ames, Iowa. This is a really good single which hints at lots of bands but doesn't really sound like any of them. It's got the pounding rhythm of Doves, vocally it reminds me a bit of Cold War Kids (and someone else who I can't quite think of!) and there's maybe a hint of Radiohead in there too.

    A Dead Sinking Story

First UK release from this Japanese band. They create an intense fusion of ferocious, teeth-grinding, screaming hardcore and reflective ballads.
