John Abercrombie, Dave Holland & Jack DeJohnette

Gateway

With "daring and visionary spirit", to quote a Downbeat review from the year of this album's release, master improvisers John Abercrombie, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette forged a unique vision of trio interplay on their frst joint effort under the Gateway moniker. The trio tackles Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette originals with a visionary idea of what three- way conversations in jazz could sound like. As The Observer remarked in an article of the time, "the telepathic ensemble playing and perfect execution make it difficult to believe that this music is almost completely improvised". The players' respectively unique instrumental signatures had already fully crystallised here, hinting at the music to come.

The Luminessence edition of the album arrives in a Tip- on gatefold, complete with previously unseen archival photos and new liner notes by Wilco's Nels Cline.

"One thing most recordings on the label share in common is the capturing of special moments in real time. That is what "Gateway" is, what it feels like so many years later, for as long as we have ears to listen." - Nels Cline

    Elina Duni

    A Time To Remember

A Time To Remember is a continuation of the special synergy that inhabited Elina Duni's acclaimed Lost Ships and finds her regrouping with that album's quartet of guitarist Rob Luft, Matthieu Michel on flugelhorn and Fred Thomas on percussion and piano. As the title suggests, the notion of 'time' pulls through the programme like a theme, connecting music from different parts of the world - traditionals, popular songs and original compositions - in performances of deep lyricism but also fleet-footed folklore.

The repertory spans Albanian and Kosovan traditionals, American songs like the Broadway classic "I'll Be Seeing You" and Stephen Sondheim's musical ballad "Send In The Clowns" as well as originals by Rob and Elina. Commenting on the group's last effort, Jazzwise said that "the sum of Duni and Luft's work together seems greater than their individual achievements, where concept and conceptualisation have combined to produce a classic." A Time To Remember should confirm that proposition and further expands on the qualities explored previously.

      Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer

      Re: ECM

Two of the best-known names in contemporary electronica, Berlin-based DJs and composers Ricardo Villalobos and Max Loderbauer share their admiration for music on ECM in a unique double-album of specially-created 'sound-structures' - a project that will bring the label’s music to a new listenership.

Using original ECM recordings as a starting point, Villalobos and Loderbauer create new music that bridges several worlds, including ECM’s world of space-conscious improvisation and composition and the worlds of ambient electronics and minimal techno. Source materials on "Re: ECM" include recordings of Christian Wallumrød (The Zoo Is Far & Fabula Suite Lugano), Alexander Knaifel (Svete Tikhiy, Amicta Sole & Blazhenstva), Louis Sclavis (L'imperfait des langues), John Abercrombie (Timeless), Bennie Maupin (The Jewel in The Lotus), Arvo Pärt (Kanon Pokajanen), Wolfert Brederode (Currents), Paul Giger (Ignis) and more - looped, sampled, remixed and reworked in evocative new treatments.
