DOUBLE DOUBLE WHAMMY

Dari Bay

Surprise Wish

'Surprise Wish' is the sophomore album from Burlington, Vermont indie-rock project Dari Bay and the band’s first release for Double Double Whammy. Following the cult-favorite debut 'Longest Day of the Year' (2023), songwriter Zack James sharpens the project’s sound into something more immediate and visceral: scuzzy guitars, hypnotic rhythms, and conversational vocals that feel both intimate and unguarded. Raised in Brattleboro, Vermont in a musical family, James has spent years immersed in the region’s DIY scene - playing with artists like Lily Seabird and Greg Freeman, writing in the band Robber Robber, and touring as a member of Unknown Mortal Orchestra. With Surprise Wish, he distills that experience into his most focused songwriting yet. Written largely alone over the course of a year while James finished college and balanced multiple projects, the album embraces a raw, homespun approach. Rather than chasing genre aesthetics, James leaned into instinct and immediacy, building songs around ideas that arrived suddenly and refused to leave. The result is a record that blends ’90s alt-rock, indie, and slacker rock into something both familiar and newly restless. Across its nine songs, 'Surprise Wish' captures the strange emotional terrain of young adulthood - a life shaped by the internet, isolation, friendship, near-disasters, and flashes of fragile hope. Tracks like the fuzzed-out rocker 'The Joke', the spiraling character study 'Chevy', and the cathartic single 'We’re Gonna Be Okay' pair distorted guitars with lyrics that feel searching, self-aware, and quietly funny. At once scrappy and assured, Surprise Wish is a portrait of a person coming into being.

This Is Lorelei

Box For Buddy, Box For Star (Super Deluxe)

In 2024 the prolific New York artist Nate Amos released his label debut 'Box for Buddy, Box for Star' under his solo moniker This Is Lorelei. The record was critically acclaimed and received year end accolades from Rolling Stone, Billboard, GQ, Pitchfork, Stereogum, The FADER, Paste, but the album and Amos’ star has continued on an unrelenting rise. The last year saw him release a breakthrough record with his band Water From Your Eyes, a rerecorded collection of This Is Lorelei songs entitled 'Holo Boy', and share a slew of collaborations and reimaginings of the 'Box for Buddy' songs, repackaged as a quasi-deluxe release that included MJ Lenderman, Snail Mail and Amos’ father and sister, Bob & Sarah Amos.

The songs on 'Box for Buddy' have continued to resonate, appearing in headlines and grainy live videos as artists like Waxahatchee and Cameron Winter cover them, incorporating Amos’ songs into their own setlists. It seemed only logical then that the entirety of 'Box for Buddy' should receive this reimagining, pulling together a constellation of Amos’ friends, family and peers to cover and collaborate on the full tracklist. 'Box for Buddy, Box for Star (Super Deluxe)' features fully reimagined versions of every song from Amos’ break out LP; a hushed and glitchy take from Hayley Williams and her close collaborator Daniel James, from their new project Power Snatch, a sweeping ballad from SASAMI complete with headturning key changes, and pure guitar euphoria from Momma. An unexpectedly great pairing between Jeff Tweedy and longtime Amos collaborators fantasy of a broken heart is among the other treasures contained on this singular collection, which also features outsider pop auteur LUCY (Cooper B Handy), Tim Heidecker, and the long awaited studio version of Waxahatchee’s take on 'Where’s Your Love Now'.
