Dinosaur Pile-Up

Celebrity Mansions

Dinosaur Pile-Up return with their fourth album Celebrity Mansions, a collection of songs that sizzle with big melodies, skewered through with raw, intoxicating emotion. To mark the album’s announcement the band have released the incendiary ‘Thrash Metal Cassette’, their most punk rock and in-your-face track to date.

DPU have long been talked about as one of British music’s most consistently exciting outfits, with singer/guitarist Matt Bigland forging a reputation as one of rock music’s finest songwriters. So having spent the best part of a decade building a fiercely loyal fanbase, and a stellar live reputation, now’s the time to prove it.

    FORMAT INFORMATION

    Coloured LP Info: Clear vinyl.

Dinosaur L is an alias donned by Arthur Russell, a man whose contribution to dance music from the late seventies and through the eighties was formidable but only quietly acknowledged. His innovative and left field dance records were way ahead of what people were used to hearing at the time. He was a cellist who studied classical and Indian music. As well as his great strides in dance music he was also involved in the New York downtown avant-garde music scene and produced some albums in a more avant-garde / experimental vein as well as trying his own unique approach to pop. He scored several hits on the underground New York dance scene at clubs like The Paradise Garage (Larry Levan was a huge supporter). His biggest tunes, “Go Bang!” and “Is It All Over My Face?” were worldwide club hits and are still played today as classics. His records have influenced the scene from his first dance record in 1979 to the present day and his work has been much sampled. Sadly Arthur died in 1992, but his music lives on and his influence is still felt on the dance music scene, his tunes still sound great and are still moving many dancers around the world, so his spirit lives on. Sleeping Bag Records and Traffic Entertainment Group is proud to present Dinosaur L’s “24-24 Music“ on double LP.

Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not

PICCADILLY EXCLUSIVE: PRE-ORDER THE ALBUM AND ENTER A DRAW TO WIN A 100cmx100cm PROMOTIONAL FABRIC DISPLAY BANNER – ONLY 1 IN THE WORLD!!!

With all the insanity that is stalking the Earth in 2016, it’s nice to have something to rely on. Who’d’ve dared to think it’d be Dinosaur Jr.? There’s no doubt about it - this is the record that the fans have been waiting for since the original line up reformed.

The songs on ‘Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not’ were recorded over the past year or so, again at Amherst’s Bisquiteen Studio (located in a secret nook of J’s basement). The sound is great and roaring with J’s various bleeding ear psychedelic guitar touches oozing their way into the smudge-pop modelling, while Murph’s drums pound like Fred Flintstone’s feet and Lou’s bass weaves back and forth between proggy melodicism and post-core thug-hunch.

    STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: As you would expect from Dinosaur Jr, this is an anthemic grunge tour-de force. Hard-hitting drums and distortion abound all topped with Mascis' snarling but perfectly tuned vocals. Rousing chord progressions are rife here, but not the only thing on offer,'Be A Part' shows a bit of single-note twiddling before breaking out into a melancholic minor-key chord fare. 'Knocked Around' could be the soundtrack to a particularly heartwrenching college-party romantic failure montage. A brilliant return to form for Dinosaur Jr, as exciting, dynamic and emotive as ever. Highly recommended.

    Arthur Russell / Dinosaur L

The Definitive Sleeping Bag Recordings LP Box Set

Though classically trained, Arthur Russell’s major contributions to the music world is in the dance genre. Despite the fact that his pioneering work in the late ‘70s and on through the ‘80s was only quietly acknowledged at the time, his long-term impact is best described as formidable. Russell died in 1992, but his art lives on and his influence is still felt in the world of dance music and beyond. His innovative, leftfield dance records flew way ahead of what people were used to hearing at the time, due in part to his involvement in New York’s downtown avant-garde music scene. He scored several hits at clubs like The Paradise Garage (Larry Levan was a huge supporter) and his biggest tunes, ‘Go Bang!’ and ‘Is It All Over My Face?’ are worldwide hits and still played to this day.

His seminal work, the full length ‘24-->24 Music’ album, has now been expanded to a deluxe 4LP set in a hand silk-screened box. In addition to the music found on the original issue of the album, this collection includes rare 12” remixes and edits, such as the highly coveted Walter Gibbons mix of ‘Go Bang!’ and the infamously rare ‘You Can’t Hold Me Down’ (Test Pressing Version). Records 3 and 4 round out the rest of Russell’s audio credits with the Sleeping Bag label, with alias and collaborative tracks from Bonzo Goes To Washington, Felix, Sounds Of JHS 126 Brooklyn, and Indian Ocean.

Needless to say, this limited edition set will only see a single production run, and is sure to be in high demand.

      FORMAT INFORMATION

4xLP Box Set Info: The four LPs are housed inside beautiful one of a kind, hand pulled screen printed sleeves that tuck into the extra durable, matching screen printed box, in red and metallic silver ink. Also included is an oversized 20 page booklet featuring unreleased photos by Janette Beckman, text by Russell biographer Tim Lawrence, testimonials by some of the greats in the field, vintage artwork and other content.

Dinosaur Pile-Up will release their third album ‘Eleven Eleven’ on 16th October, 2015 via SO Recordings.

Sculpted by the expert hands of producer Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood) the crushing, jagged riffs of this third monster are the meat on the Dinosaur’s bones. Dinosaur Pile-Up are reborn – ravenous for bigger crowds, broader stages and the fresh blood of fans’ ears. Vocalist / guitarist Matt Bigland, drummer Mike Sheils and bassist Jim Cratchley recorded the album as a full band for the first time and it’s an album that sees them go harder, faster and terrifyingly heavier than ever before.

As Matt says: "What’s really exciting for us about this record is it's the first time we've ever been able to capture the energy and flow that we have live. Because it's the first time we've recorded an album together in a room, like when we are playing live or rehearsing, we were able to shape the songs and put them down in the way we want to play them live. Whenever we wanted something to be heavier, or more intense, we just changed it there and then. It was awesome. So we feel really good about it. It sounds like us, right now." Sculpted by the expert hands of producer Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood) the crushing, jagged riffs of this third monster are the meat on the Dinosaur’s bones.

Dinosaur Pile-Up's new album was again written and recorded entirely by the band's frontman Matt Bigland, who decamped to Courtyard Studios in Oxfordshire with Ian Davenport (Band Of Skulls) over six weeks last November to record the album.

Coming out of Massachusetts in 1985, this album brought the young, socially inadequate and self-absorbed J.Mascis dimly into focus. Dysfunction always rocks and J's solution / release was to build a wall of noise, with unbelievably loud guitars which were sometimes hazy, sometimes sprawling. The results were mesmerising. Like an East Coast version of The Meat Puppets, there was loser folk mumblings mixed with lo-fi hardcore mixed with psych-metal mixed with nervy U.K new-wave and even Goth! Add Neil Young guitar sprawls and bingo: this is music you've never heard in your life before. This debut is ramshackle and hotch-potch in places, but beneath the noise there's plenty of clever songs mixing pretty melody with brutal power.

      Dinosaur Jr

      Where You Been

Fronted by singer-songwriter/guitarist J Mascis, Dinosaur Jr formed in Massachusetts in 1984. Their emergence was a musical shot heard round the world as Mascis and company put the heroics of lead guitar back into the forefront of the indie rock realm. Amazingly, it was a revolutionary idea at the time. Post-punk and pre-grunge, they were an intense force to be reckoned with. "Where You Been", their second album for Sire, was originally released in 1993. This expanded remastered edition includes previously unissued recordings: "Hide (John Peel Session)", "Keeblin" and "What Else Is New (Live)".
