I think I first heard "Carino" at Electric Chair when it was at the Music Box. Previously it had been enjoyed by the Hacienda mob courtesy of Mike Pickering (who wrote and produced it along with Simon Topping and Ritchie Close), not to mention the White Isle jet-set who possibly reveled in its anthemic glory when it crossed back over from Manchester to Ibiza, fusing the Mediterranean party island with the hordes of young men just beginning to discover their non-violent selves, take ecstasy and dance to repetitive beats in run down warehouses, disused airfields and dilapidated industrial estates up and down the country (a theme that would repeat itself through the years...). Anyway, myself, like many before, lost my proverbial shit upon first listen; that incessant, slightly mechanized piano line, jacking vintage drum boxes and searing string line combining to send serotonin-levels soaring and sweat levels to rise to un-ignorable heights (the Music Box ceiling often dripping with salty liquids when this peaked the floor out...). Now subject to official licensing and reproduction through the Above Board lot, we get a nice clean, tastefully remastered reissue for you lucky sods. Comes with the B-side's swaggering 808-driven street soul number, "Regret" - which sounds even more relevant at the moment with all the mid 80s sounds coming back in fashion. Seriously, you don't even need to think about this; every home needs one!

Matt says: Manc classic "Carino" gets a much-needed repress for the under 25s who think dance music culture involves getting a selfie with Moodymann at the WHP.
