Heathen Axe (John Dwyer)

Heathen Axe

“I wanted to make a totally fried recording, quick and dirty. Sort of a cathartic expulsion. Clean the cobwebs. I recently bought a Vestax MR44 (the best sounding 4 track ever imho) the same 4 track I recorded some Coachwhips. early Ocs etc on now we had the tools we needed so I spent a week writing riffs and brought them to Tom Dolas and John Hodge. We ran them one time and then recorded them on the second go. Loosely improvised and unhinged. Everything turned all the way up. Hope you dig play loud for fans of Mainliner, High Rise , Comets On Fire , Hair Police.” - John Dwyer

Damaged Bug

Zuzax

"40 or so Damaged Bug tunes from the past seven years were orphaned / unfinished, which is pretty rare for me. I just kept having other things going on & life kept getting in the way. And frankly, the songs were all over the place so I didn’t see a thread in there, but in light of current events in the world, I feel like It’s every artist’s calling to construct personal messages cloaked in moments of escapism. That’s what this record is for me–something to clear the decks a little bit in my studio, relax my mind, and keep the wolf from the door. It’s a bit of a joyous/sad record dealing with hope and forgiveness, two things which I hope end up more in my life.

It’s abstract and poppy, fried and sugary.

It's exactly how I feel at the moment fried and skewed.

Good luck out there and I hope this turns off the torrent for you, for a moment."

STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: John bloody Dwyer eh? Not content with smashing out the greatest psychedelic rock in the ol' OSEES, his Damaged Bug project sees the more off-piste electronic excursions come to light, and this one features a host of banging unfinished b-sides oddities we've never heard before.

Thee Oh Sees

Mutilator Defeated At Last - 2025 Reissue

Here we have another batch from Thee Oh Sees for your absorption—nine muscular tunes primed to pummel. Whilst 'Drop' was more schizophrenic, ranging from heavy to whimsical and back; 'Mutilator Defeated at Last' has more in common with the monolithic hugeness of 'Floating Coffin'. With only two brief reprieves from its onslaught, this record is made to be played loudly and demands bodily sacrifice.

Despite the plutonium heavy feel, Thee Oh Sees continue to be omnivorous. Synths and acoustic guitars wind throughout the album like veins of gold through granite. Any and all that stands in its way will be devoured and assimilated. This is the sound of a band doing what they do best.
