DATUM RECORDINGS

This blazing new 45rpm release unites two heavyweight veterans: Philly's Emynd and San Francisco's DJ B.Cause, who are well established after decades of remixing, producing, and DJing. On this one, the duo deliver a double dose of Baltimore Club heat in which Side A flips a famous funk gem into a high-energy dancefloor shaker, while the B-side reimagines some West Coast 90s hip-hop via a gritty, instrumental party-break twist. Two modern interpretations of some stone-cold oldie gold. It's not hard to imagine them tearing up floors everywhere.

Casquiat / Controller 7

Set It Off / Dope On Plastic

Casquiat and Controller 7 have united on Datum Recordings for this high class new 45rpm which works as a fine weapon for your record bag or equally well as some superb home listening. Casquiat goes first with 'Set It Off' which has raw drum breaks and direct bars delivered over some wild guitar riffs, slamming hits and old school vocal chops. Controller 7's 'Dope On Plastic' is a percolating funk joint with old school hip-hop energy and some evocative bars that recall the likes of Beastie Boys. Add in smart horns, JB yelps and scratching and you have a real party starter.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Super tasty 7" for old skool hip-hop and breaks heads which, despite sounding like some lost crate-dug treasure, is actually brand new! A real b-boy double header. TIP.

The Stopper / OG Ranks

Casquiat's ability to balance heavy, floor-filling beats with thoughtful, experimental layers is on full show in this new 7" from Datum. The two cuts push the boundaries of hip-hop and bring in a raw electronic edge. 'The Stopper' is a high-energy cut that collides skittering percussion and intricate rhythms to make for an intense yet hypnotic club vibe. In contrast, OG Ranks takes a deeper, more introspective route with moody undertones, spacious production, and a sharp focus on atmospheric tension. They make for a fine yin and yang and cannot fail to make their mark in the club.

The former goes first with 'A Tribe Called Westwood' with signature Tribe bars and a deep cut groove with raw bass.
