DAN*EDS

We don't know much - or anything really - about the secretive Nico Bellari, so all we can go off is the music. This is his own new label, and it kicks off with a delightful pair of edits of some good old disco delights, and both come with their own carefully stripped-back and flesh dubs, all mixed and edited from original multi-tracks. 'Dance, Dance, Dance' is a nice and funky disc stepper with a silky and seductive lead vocal that swells the heart. 'Straight Ahead' is more weighty for the pet time with some fat-ass bass and lovely improvised synth playfulness, all under a vocal you will know and probably already love.

"Straight Ahead" (Dub De Jure)

Disco De Jure made a great debut with its first release and now backs that up with more quality for lovers of classic disco with a contemporary twist. It is the rather mysterious Nico Bellari who steps up to edit this into his own vibe. 'If The Music Makes You Feel Like Dancing' gets underway with lush strong stabs, rolling drums and squelchy synth work that will get those hands in the air. The dub De Jure is a glossy version paired back to the groove, and on the flip, the timeless joys of Gloria Estefan's 'Rhythm Of The Night' get a subtle update with more club-ready kicks. A dub concludes this useful package.

Evan Dando

Rumours Of My Demise

From the clubs, the drugs, and the ringing ears, to the fun, the fame, and the fall, Rumours of My Demise is a heady, candid trip into the grunge-filled 90s from the Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando.

“Did you hear Evan Dando died last night?”

After Kurt Cobain’s passing in 1994, everyone expected Evan Dando to be
next. Rising to fame in the 90s as frontman of the Lemonheads, he was infamous for his decadent lifestyle, from his extensive drug-taking and partying with Keith Richards and Kate Moss to sleeping on floors in his punk days and crashing at Johnny Depp’s house in Hollywood. But despite the rumours that are constantly circulating about him, he has lived to tell the tales.

Following decades of the press wanting to label him and fit him in a box, Rumours of My Demise sees Dando tell his own story. Reclaiming the innocence and exuberance of his early days and encapsulating the spirit of the era, this candid autobiography presents a portrait of an artist who lives wholly for his music, and one that makes no apologies for doing so

    Youth Sector

    Pop Couture

Hailing from Brighton, indie rock quintet Youth Sector expertly balance astute political observations with campy indie romps. Inspired by the art school greats DEVO and Talking Heads, their music is a coiled spring of urgency and unpredictable energy that offers a sense of catharsis for the confusion of modern adult life.

Across their critically acclaimed EPs, the Brighton quintet have never revelled in bleakness, managing to twist everyday narratives into music that is quite the opposite being upbeat, full of energy and with irresistible choruses you can’t help but sing along with.

Evidently Youth Sector are no strangers to weaving prescient issues of culture and politics into the warm embrace of strong grooves and sing-along choruses, but debut album ‘Pop Couture’ raises the bar considerably, marking their strongest statement to date. From grift culture to political corruption to the devolution of living standards, Youth Sector prove they can transform the weightiest subject matter into the most irresistible of choruses.

“'Pop Couture', our debut album, is a body of work which for a long time seemed out of our reach; it's the culmination of several years of development and is the vehicle for which we have been saving the best material we've ever written. The album explores prescient issues in our culture and politics such as grift culture, corruption and the devolution of standards in public life, but wraps these ideas in the warm embrace of strong grooves and sing-along choruses.”

“We've been more ambitious than ever on these recordings in terms of the scale of the songs we're writing, with the help of Richard Wilkinson (Bombay Bicycle Club, Spector, Kaiser Chiefs), this album includes our most expansive recordings to date. Woven throughout the record is a self-awareness and introspection from five individuals who have worked through the financial and personal burdens that come with being a small artist the modern music industry; the record is bookended by 'God's Work' and 'Not Coming Down' that explore the journey through different lenses.”

“Although the road to 'Pop Couture' has been long and arduous, Youth Sector can confidently confirm for any apprehensive listeners that it is certifiably all killer and no filler.”

      Nation Of Language

      Dance Called Memory

Synthpop, minimal wave, post-punk, goth, new romantic — fans and critics alike have dug deeply into their vintage thesauruses to describe the beguiling work of Nation of Language. And if you can’t precisely define the band, that’s the point. Frontman Ian Richard Devaney has become prodigious in expanding what synthesizer-driven music can evoke, such that his output is as much an extrasensory journey as it is an all-too-human destination. With that experience in mind, he wrote the band’s fourth album — the spectral, spacious 'Dance Called Memory' — in the most humble of ways: chipping away at melancholia by sitting around and strumming his guitar.

Nation of Language’s first two albums, 'Introduction, Presence' (2020), and 'A Way Forward' (2021), came as pandemic godsends: gorgeous, relatable soundtracks to our collective doldrums. But it was their last LP, 'Strange Disciple' (2023), that catapulted the group from cultural standouts to critical darlings. With that release, Pitchfork wrote that the band “are learning what it means to get bigger and better.”

This is Devaney’s calling: soulfully translating individual despair into a comforting, collective mourning. The single 'Now That You’re Gone', which radiates and reverberates with a devastating wistfulness, was inspired by witnessing his godfather’s tragic death from ALS, and his parents’ role as caretakers for this ailing friend. At its heart, the song is a reflection of how friends can be there for each other, and also highlights a theme throughout the record: the pain and lost promise of friendships that fall apart.

On 'Dance Called Memory', the band once again collaborated with friend and Strange Disciple producer Nick Millhiser (LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost!). “What’s so great about Nick is his ability to make us feel like we don’t need to do what might be expected of us,” says synth player Aidan Noell, who, along with bassist Alex MacKay, rounds out the Nation of Language lineup. They imbued 'Dance Called Memory' with a shifted palette — sampling chopped-up drum breaks on 'I’m Not Ready for the Change' for a touch of Loveless-era My Bloody Valentine or smashing all of the percussion of 'In Another Life' through a synthesizer to cast a shade of early-2000s electronic music.

Ultimately, the hope was to weave raw vulnerability and humanity into a synth-heavy album. “There is a dichotomy between the Kraftwerk school of thought and the Brian Eno school of thought, each of which I’ve been drawn to at different points. I’ve read about how Kraftwerk wanted to remove all the humanity from their music, but Eno often spoke about wanting to make synthesized music that felt distinctly human,” Devaney says. “As much as Kraftwerk is a sonically foundational influence, with this record I leaned much more towards the Eno school of thought. In this era quickly being defined by the rise of AI supplanting human creators I’m focusing more on the human condition, and I need the underlying music to support that… Instead of hopelessness, I want to leave the listener with a feeling of us really seeing one another, that our individual struggles can actually unite us in empathy.”

        Danny Elfman

        Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (Original Score)

Director Tim Burton once again teams up with composer Danny Elfman to create chaotic and fantastical music for the Ghost with the Most! Though very few of his collaborations with Burton are sequels, Elfman jumped at the chance to revisit his work from the original Beetlejuice. After 36 years, it was easy for him to get into the mindset he found in 1988. Speaking to Forbes, Elfman said that getting “the chance to jump back into the same playground” with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice after all these years was “a real treat.”

            Gimme Danger / Sister Midnight

Paul Banks of Interpol offers his distinctive take on two Iggy Pop staples—'Sister Midnight' and 'Gimme Danger'— released via Partisan Records, drawn from the official soundtrack to the film Sister Midnight (dir. Karan Kandhari).

Originally co-written with David Bowie and The Stooges, these tracks are reimagined by Banks with a moody, atmospheric touch that honours the originals’ grit and menace while leaning into his own shadowy sensibility.

              Lucrecia Dalt

              A Danger To Ourselves

Lucrecia Dalt’s 'A Danger to Ourselves' is a daring yet intimate reflection on the unfiltered complexities of human connection. Stripping away fictional narratives present on the artist’s last several album endeavours, 'A Danger to Ourselves' arrives from a place of emotional sincerity. Sonically unravelling like a deeply personal conversation, Dalt’s voice is focal , supported by a lush array of acoustic orchestration and percussive instrumentation, and an esteemed cast of collaborators.

Dalt, born in Pereira, Colombia, was raised in a family of music enthusiasts who encouraged her to pick up a guitar when she was nine. Dalt followed this creative impulse, becoming fascinated with computer-based production and leaving a burgeoning career as a civil engineer, moving from Medellín to Barcelona and ultimately Berlin, where she developed her distinctive, adventurous sound. Her work has spun into increasingly accomplished terrains with 'Anticlines' (2018) and 'No era sólida' (2020), and notably,'¡Ay!', Dalt’s 2022 breakthrough sci-fi bolero album. Along the way, Dalt expanded her practice into scoring for films like 'On Becoming a Guinea Fowl' (2024), HBO series 'The Baby' (2022), and the forthcoming psychological horror 'Rabbit Trap', while creating sound installations and performances that showcase her luminous modulations and distinctive, evolving vocal approach. 'A Danger to Ourselves' emerged from fragmentary declarations Dalt scribbled while navigating life on tour for '¡ Ay!', and the formative moments of a new relationship. She began crystallising these intimate fragments into musical compositions in January 2024, giving gradual form to a purposeful constellation of songs. The album’s sonic architecture builds upon dynamic drum loops provided by collaborator Alex Lázaro, whose percussive backbone, as on '¡Ay!', became a canvas for Dalt’s layered vocals. Rather than following conventional melodic structures, the album generates musicality through the interplay of basslines, rhythms, and compositional design. 'A Danger to Ourselves' reveals Dalt’s uncompromising quest for sonic clarity, where bold production choices and meticulous recording techniques encourage both voice and instrument to harmonise with newfound depth and radiance.

Distinctly anti-conceptual, 'A Danger to Ourselves' is a poetic instinct by which Dalt ushers in an unobstructed focus on the music itself, using vocals that vibrate past the songs’ parameters, and observing the beaded echoes of primal, romantic thrill. lucid attention to detail is palpable in every measure ,a dedication that spins in concentric circles, forming a field that unifies the personal and ethereal. Drawn from intuitive experiments, the album uses simple gestures and intricate compositions to weave wandering lines, as in “divina,” which moves between Spanish and English through elastic soundscapes and mesmerising auditory collage.

Speaking about the song, Mick Jagger said: ‘’We had such a laugh doing 'Dancing in the Street' with both the song recorded in the studio and the video done in one day. Remarkable how we pulled it off really. The video is hilarious to watch now. We enjoyed camping it up and trying to impersonate each other’s moves, making it up as we went along. It was the only time David and myself collaborated on anything, which is a real shame.”

                    Daniel Blumberg

The Brutalist (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Original Score, and shot in the glorious, vintage VistaVision format, Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist stands as a monumental achievement in filmmaking. Opening with a mesmerizing and continuous 10-minute overture, composer Daniel Blumberg’s music sets the stage for the film’s epic narrative, which spans multiple decades and follows fictional Hungarian architect László Toth (played by Adrien Brody) as he rebuilds his life in post-war America.

Encompassing large-scale brass orchestrations, intimately lyrical piano melodies and freewheeling, improvisational jazz, The Brutalist’s score is as ambitious and broad in scope as the film itself. Envisioning the score as slabs of sound – rich and resonating while also measured and restrained – the music developed into the sonic embodiment of the Brutalist design aesthetic, where imposing scale and raw textures meet values of simplicity and economy. To craft its singular sound, Blumberg worked with a cast of boundary-pushing musicians and improvisers, traveling across the UK and Europe with a custom-built remote recording setup to capture his players on location. Exploiting the tension between the fluidity of improvised music and the meticulous precision of film scoring, Blumberg coaxed out beautifully rich and resonant performances from his collaborators, including avant-garde innovators Axel Dörner (trumpet), Evan Parker (saxophone), Sophie Agnel (piano), and John Tilbury (piano), to name a few.

Kicking off proceedings is Dave Lee's mix of Foremost Poets classic 'Beside Myself', a brand new remix where Dave delivers a stonking, cowbell cracking slice of house with the soulful joy Johnny Dangerous brings with his vocals. Backing that up on the A's is the peak time disco house track from our friendly neighbour Doug Willis, on this occasion aided and abetted by someone who's been doing the do just as long, but in Chicago - Mr Mike Dunn. Ich Liebe Es Zu Tanzen! On the flip is Output / Input's 'Every Time You Touch Me' which gets Boogiefied by Dave Lee, who adds slick Moog bass, jazz-funk guitars & brassy synths under Antonio McLendon's Luther-esque vocal performance. To close out is one for the Garage heads, an exclusive 'Vocal Dub Pressure' version of Groove Assassin's recent hit remix of Destiny II's 'I'm Here For This' which is currently not available digitally. As Kate Bush once said: "Wow"!!!

                        Pere Ubu

The Modern Dance - 2025 Repress

“It's a devastating debut...this album has struck me with a vengeance. Because it delivers such a powerful, complex and open-ended punch, it's almost impossible at such an early stage to explain why or how in full detail.” Melody Maker. // “I would be willing to sit down and argue that modern-day rock ‘n’ roll reached its peak in 1978 with Pere Ubu’s The Modern Dance and has declined ever since." Rolling Stone // “Peru Ubu’s full length debut fancies itself a fusion of musique concrete and The Stooges. Shrill and ugly it crystallises their original version of industrial rock” Uncut // The Modern Dance’ is the first studio release from Pere Ubu. Following their self-released first singles on Hearpen Records, the uncompromising complex debut has continuously stirred critics. Today the record is still as direct and powerful as it was first heard. Exploding onto the scene with a handful of releases behind them, Pere Ubu’s ‘The Modern Dance’ stunned the music world and quickly began appearing on ‘Most Influential’ album lists. Pere Ubu originally formed as a studio project drawing on a body of musicians who were involved in the Cleveland underground music scene that had, by August 1975, seemingly run its course. The main objective of the band at that time was to document their work and then disappear. Luckily for us they were on the cusp of changing the face of rock forever. For this reworking, Paul Hamann at Suma has transferred from the original 2-track analogue mix tapes to digital at the highest resolution available which, is at least four times the resolution of the original. The tracks have carefully been re-mastered by sonic architect Brian Pyle so as to capture the unique qualities within.

                          Daniel Johnston

Love Lives Forever (BBC Sessions 2003-2011)

Daniel Johnston’s legacy is legendary. The quintessential DIY artist started his career in Austin, TX whilst hawking cassettes from his day job at McDonald’s. The rest, as they say, is history and fans of US alternative music from the 1980s onwards know about his work and the people he went on to inspire.

This is a project inspired by BBC Radio 6 Music’s Marc Riley and the tracks have been licensed from the BBC and approved by Daniel’s family, management and charity. The sessions were spread across an eight-year period with two sessions for Rob Da Bank and three with Marc Riley (both of whom are executive producers of this album).

A few bootleg recordings of these sessions have been available across the years but now they have been lovingly mastered and cut by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios in London. Daniel was a lifelong fan of The Beatles and the overwhelming consensus from those who knew him was that he would be so proud and excited to have his music mastered above the legendary Studio 2 at Abbey Road. This project’s objective is to celebrate Daniel’s musical legacy, rather than explore further his well-documented mental health problems. However, profits from the album will go to Daniel’s Hi, How Are You Project based in Austin.

                            Daniel Wang

Look Ma No Drum Machine! 2025 Edition

There's some misty eyes in Piccadilly right now, let me tell you. Not content with serving a smackdown to one of our scene's great pretenders, disco-house godfather Daniel Wang delivers an official, legit and great sounding repress of Balihu 001. His first foray into the world of house music, BAL001 saw Danny dive into his disco crates, slice a handful of heaters from the likes of Eddys Rosemund and Grant, Indeep, Anita Ward and Sleeque into his sampler to turn out a quartet of cut n paste killers. Playful, naive and utterly groove laden, these irresistible cuts have been doing it on dancefloors for almost thirty years now and still absolutely slay.
On the A-side, the scene defining "Like Some Dream" pairs a poetic vocal with a two bar loop from Eddy Rosemund's 'Funk It' and then takes us on the ride of our life, either with or without that timbale break. If you don't own this, or, heaven forbid, haven't heard it, you need to remedy this immediately. Flip it to hear Daniel freak with Eddy Grant's Timewarp on the insistent "Warped", get creative with the disco breaks on "Gotta Get Up", then slip into the funkier end of the dancefloor on the thick and thumping "Twitchy & Scratchy".

Label heads Make A Dance return with the 13th installment on their acclaimed imprint, M.A.D. RECORDS.

Leading the charge is the long-requested ID, 'Young Man' — a rolling, deep, and driving house cut, layered with a hauntingly soulful blues vocal – a track that confidently carves its own lane in a crowded field.

On the B-side, 'Club Dub 909' offers a more direct and energetic take, punctuated by bursts of their signature dub siren — a nod to the duo’s unmistakable style.

Rounding out the EP is 'Down', a sleazy, heads-down affair that’s been igniting dance floors every time it’s dropped in their sets.

The label say: "Experiments in electronic music out of Amsterdam's Ruigoord by this young upcoming producer Mozes Meijer. Ruigoord is a haven for free spirits just outside of the Amsterdam center where Meijer holds his studio in which he has been experimenting for years with all sorts of hardware. Our personal favorite on this EP is the "Honda Wanderer". Witness the birth of new and fresh ideas by this newcomer in the scene. Limited vinyl pressing to a few 100 copies."

                            A1 FORWARD
Was inspired by the revolution of the year of 1988 also referred to as the 2nd summer of love. Revolutions great and small are happening all around us all the time, and they take place in the minds of individuals.

                            A2 CHARANJIT DRIVE
Describes the revolution i 've got in mind, angelic bass-string harmonic notes flying left and right, Indian-vocals, sudden sped-up dancehall baselines and breaks. Imagine a hippie a homeboy and a funky dread, hugging and dancing and telling their mates how much they love each other in a nice green field while this plays.

                            B1 HONDA WANDERER
A man in a blue honda civic is traveling through a misty world at a high velocity. Seeking that which is just hiding behind the next bend. I made this after a beautiful misty, raining/sunshine rainbow ride on the autobahn. I had just picked up a cheap mutron bi-phase which was sitting beside me in the passenger seat. It was amazing.

                            B2 MISTY VALLEY
It's time to get a little bit serious, this one feels like the place where i made all of this music, the village of Ruigoord, covered in a thick winter fog. The remnants of a possible previous reincarnation of myself as an 80s new-beat producer are haunting this music.

all music & artwork by Mozes Meijer, mastering: Wouter Brandenburg, cut: Dubplates & Mastering a&r: Arne Cinema Royale Visser.

From the mind of Philadelphia legend Del Jones, the jazz-funk musician and social justice activist behind Positive Vibes and The Court Is Closed, comes a cult favorite finally getting its due. Originally released on CD in 1999, Dance of 'De Elder is a late-career epic where Jones' unmistakable vocals and undeniable funk deliver his signature blend of history, justice and Afrocentrism to reinforce his timeless command: 'DANCE // RESPECT YOURSELF.

’This 12-inch marks the track’s debut on wax and features five remixes for today’s dancefloors. Lil Dave lifts the song into an uptempo, deep and soulful house jam, Pheels flips the vocals over a heavy, psychedelic and percussive dub, Sweater adds bright, crescending synths that revive Jones’ chorus as a joyful decree, Universal Cave offer an extended, dubbed out, late night acid excursion, and Street Orchestra dials in a knocking MPC beat mix that could have fit right at home on the original release.

When we found a copy of the Dance Of ‘De Elder CD, the title track quickly became a Universal Cave crew anthem that we played every chance we got. Early doors, end of night, looped over party tracks, we couldn’t get enough of it and knew it had to get out to a wider audience. We hope this release helps get Jones’ music and message out to DJs and dancers worldwide.

Hollywood Squabble / Coolie Dancin' In A Nissan Altima

San Francisco artist Ross Hogg has been doing his thing for decades. Here, he serves up more of his signature flips for his own self-initialled label. First up is "Hollywood Squabble" which marries West Coast flows with a classic funk instrumental for a red-hot party-starter. On the reverse, a rap's reigning it girl goes a mile a minute on "Coolie Dancin' In A Nissan Altima", which rides a bright, bold dancehall rhythm. Two very different but equally effective jams.

Sweden’s Tiger Stripes returns to Rekids with the ‘Dance For Peace’ EP, following on from February’s ‘All Night Long’ and 2024’s ‘I Heard It Through The Bassline’ EPs. Across four warm and funk-fuelled cuts, he delivers another essential selection of house grooves primed for peak-time moments and deep, late-night sessions alike, already supported by Oliver Dollar, Riva Starr, Anja Schneider, and more.

The opening track, ‘Time For Peace,’ is a brilliantly loopy roller, featuring bouncy drums, muted synth motifs, and a vocal swirl of soulful cries that ramp up the energy. It’s a stylish tension-builder, paving the way for ‘Rockin’, a chunky jam with funky melodic riffs buried in the beat and wordless ad libs teasing out the soul. ‘The Street’ keeps the vibe flowing with swinging drums, knotted guitar licks, and subtly filtered vocals worked into a steamy, party-starting groove. Closing things out is ‘A Dance’, a deeper cut drenched in lush chords and hazy vocals - perfect for blissed-out dancefloor moments.

Founder of the Strange Idols label, Tiger Stripes has spent over two decades forging his own path with standout releases on Hot Creations, Get Physical, Kwench Records, and Rekids. After stepping back to focus on his indie-rock project Little Lies, he made a full return in 2024 and quickly recaptured the form that’s made him an international favourite.

New material from rising Chicago talent Emil Gayles who drinking from the same deep house broth as luminaries Dave Maze & Anthony Nicholson and their predecors such as Joe Claussell, Timmy Regisford and Kai Alce. The rich lineage of US house music is safe in these hands!

"Let's Dance Let's Move" pairs a soulful vocal delivery with sensual organ chords and a skippy, light 4/4 beat. It has that sulty, backroom vibe that would have made it a sure fire favourite at old school MCR insitution Eyes Down, or is bound to find favour in the more tasteful tents of We Out Here.

Trinidadian Deep gifts the release some extra credentials through an inspired release, thick with club smoke and riding a galloping woodblock rhythm; pure deep house perfect by a producer with 'nuff accolaides under his belt!

The Nigerian princesses of afro-funk arrived on the international scene with 1976’s 'Danger' and never looked back. Produced by multi-instrumentalist Adeniyi “Biddy” Wright, the six-song LP is a low-slung affair, awash in dreamy psychedelic guitar, crisp hi-hat shuffles, and telepathic harmony vocals from twins Taiwo and Kehinde. This 2025 remaster is housed in a deluxe tip-on jacket and includes lyrics in both Yorurban and English. Danger, danger, danger please come on back.

                                  Danses Divines

The fourth album from DjeuhDjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson couldn't have a more explicit title. Masters of emotions and feelings, the duo has always known how to express melancholy and nostalgia with precision. Yet this time, all their efforts have concentrated on a single goal: taking listeners by the hand - no, by the ear, obviously! - to bring everyone back to the dancefloor and explore a variety of atmospheres together. And naturally, a variety of styles. Funk, ndombolo, electro, hip-hop or zouk, each new vibration discovered carries away the previous one to form a dancefloor where all eventually come together.

To evoke transidentity, consent, economic malaise as well as the spiritual, or to tell little stories of frustrated loves, seemingly insoluble but which will end well. Anthony Hilaire for Creole words, Sarah Solo for hip-swiveling soukous, Patrick Bebey for pygmy flute notes, and Grégoire Mahé to bring electricity to DjeuhDjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson's songs; styles blend in a musicality worked into its smallest interstices. Gathered on this dancefloor illuminated with 80s disco brilliance, you observe brassy notes slithering under the electronic veneer, synthesizer keys splashed by furious hip movements. To raise your eyes to connect with the spiritual is to watch the sky become constellated with crystalline Fender Rhodes notes, destined to fall like rain on the heavy bass of afrobeat groove. Smiles attached to faces, no one should think they can get through the ten tracks of "Divine Dances" while remaining seated.

Matt says: Cosmic outernational vibrations! DjeuhDjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson refine their Afro-French formula for an album that's tailor made for summertime enjoyment.

                                  Lovers Dance Academy

"'LOVERS DANCE ACADEMY' is a concept album about an idea where we want to transport the listeners to a club, or collective, that's manifesting a better world through art. It's both a metaphor for the power of collective energy in dance music that can give life to the people, and literal in the sense that there's a collective behind the Close Counters album. A place where you learn, it's mysterious and intriguing. Never quite giving everything away. Each song is a confession of life and love's growths, 'FREEDOM WE'RE NEEDING', 'FEELING TAKES OVER ME', and 'ON THE MOVE' cover the longing for freedom through movement. 'WAITING ALL NIGHT' and 'CONSTANT LOVE' are more personal accounts of love's journey. 'I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU' is a collective message to lift those around you or someone in need."

                                    Rebecca Foon & Aliayta Foon-Dancoes

                                    Reverie

Montréal post-rock luminary Rebecca Foon (Esmerine, Thee Silver Mt. Zion, Set Fire To Flames) is joined by award-winning violinist Aliayta Foon-Dancoes for a soundtrack of atmospheric post-classical chamber music on which the sisters play cello and violin respectively, along with piano by both. This debut full-length collaboration, produced by Jace Lasek (The Besnard Lakes, Patrick Watson, Godspeed You! Black Emperor), is suffused with immersive full-spectrum resonance and spaciousness, tinted with subtle electronic touches and gently blown-out acoustics. Balancing swirling lushness and contemplative solemnity, 'Reverie' is at once cinematically wide-screen and intimately introspective, flowing with a poignant melodic lyricism throughout. This consummate sibling duo unfolds a sumptuous suite of thematic variations that interweave meditative pastoralism with the underlying despair and tragedy of ecocide.

Rebecca’s post-rock, electroacoustic, and semi-improvised sensibility, honed by nearly three decades of composing and playing in a wide range of projects rooted in Montréal’s fertile DIY/punk-influenced exploratory instrumental music scene, combines with Aliayta’s more recent trajectory from virtuosic youth performer to academic music study and the formation of independent ensembles interpreting classical and modern repertoire. Following several years in London at both the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music, Foon-Dancoes’ recent move to Princeton University for a Composition PhD brought her into geographic proximity with her sister to the north, where they had already begun writing and playing together during a couple of post-pandemic retreats at Lost River, Rebecca’s converted barn studio in
the Laurentian mountains of Québec. Aliayta also joined Rebecca’s chamber-rock group Esmerine for various performances in support of its celebrated 2023 album 'Everything Was Forever Until It Was No More' (winner of the Canadian Juno awards for Best Instrumental Album and Best Album Packaging), while the two concurrently continued developing their own body of work. Further influenced by the acoustic space of the barn studio and the production style of Lasek (a long-standing Foon collaborator and the recording/mixing engineer for Esmerine’s award-winning run of albums from 2013-2023), the sisters forged a musical language and rapport drawn from composition and improvisation in equal measure, along with additive reinterpretation animated by ongoing recording processes.

'Reverie' is anchored by a clutch of recurring themes, with many of the album’s 11 tracks refracting various melodic and harmonic passages through different timbral and temporal lenses, evoking shifts in both subjective mood and external atmosphere. Drawing from Rebecca Foon’s parallel career as an environmental activist and organiser, as co-founder of Pathway To Paris (with Jesse Paris Smith) and Junglekeepers (with Paul Rosolie), 'Reverie' channels the inescapable admixture of psycho-emotional subjectivity and climatic conditions experienced as literal weather and as collective existential crisis. Like a soundtrack to a movie never made, but that shapes the subconscious of our lives (one can imagine this music scoring a post-apocalyptic film portraying small shoots of hope springing out of devastating collapse), 'Reverie' carries a lot of feelings in its double-edged title: dreams of the future and of possibility, so calamitously failing as any act of collective political will, condemning us to retreat into atomized neurosis and self-care, struggling to hold close those already closest, with art’s humble potential to provide solace and social stimulus at once ever more important and ever more spurious.

Matt says: Dedicating your track to Mars isn't something new, there's an entire sub-section of the UR catalogue doing such. Star Creature however shuns the spacey techno inflections for more plasma poolside revelry.

Dance Or Die : A History Of Hardcore

What is hardcore? It means many things to many people, and they’re all correct. It’s best described as a feeling, an attitude, and a way of life. Dance or Die is the first critical and expansive study of hardcore as a music, a subculture and an enduring “phuture” rave movement, full of colourful anecdotes and first person accounts from artists, fans and the core of hardcore.

                                          Demise Of Love EP

When three of the most forward-thinking minds in electronic and alternative music collide, the result is bound to be expansive. Demise Of Love is the thrilling new project from Daniel Avery, James Greenwood's Ghost Culture, and Working Men’s Club—a studio collaboration forged from mutual admiration and an unrelenting drive to break new ground. Born from a shared desire to create something raw, boundary-pushing and deeply emotive, the trio entered the studio with no expectations, only a love for each other’s work and a fearless approach to sound. The result is a heady fusion of industrial dreamscapes, acid house intensity, and starkly beautiful melodies. Shaped by the combined creative forces of the trio’s masterful production and brooding presence, Demise Of Love carves out its own uncompromising space in electronic music.

Auntie Flo finds a natural home for OUTERNATIONAL DANCE on Multi Culti Throughout his long career in music, Brian d’Souza aka Auntie Flo has made a name for himself for his adventurous and open minded approach to music making. Travel and collaboration is key to his work, and over the course of four albums and various singles, he’s showcased music made in Cuba, South Korea, Uganda, Brazil and more, often fusing long standing musical traditions, field recordings and artist collaborations with a modern production techniques. As Auntie Flo, he has bridged not only cultural gaps as a Scottish-Goan in hybrid genres like Afro-disco, Indian Classical and Dub-Techno, but recently crossed over into bioelectrical music, with his Plants Can Dance, Mushroom Music and full-blown ambient psychedelica all housed under his A State Of Flo label and Substack. Outernational Dance helps define this expansive sound with a set of tracks that brings dance culture back to nature, inspired by ‘Esperanto’, a form of universal language created by L. L. Zamenhof in 1887. The notion of music as the universal language has always been at the heart of Auntie Flo’s practise and makes this new EP a perfect fit for the boundary dissolving reverie of the Multi Culti ethos: pointing the way to a better world, borderless, free and in symbiosis with nature.

                                            We're Having A Barn Dance

Meet Lavender. This winsome duo, consisting of Oskar Rice and Adam Jackson. Their output so far has been confined to a debut EP which came out right in the middle of the lockdown and another couple of singles that bring their tally so far to less than thirty minutes of music. But that’s about to change with their debut album, 'We’re Having A Barn Dance', a significant step forward and brilliant distillation of all that made those first releases pop so dramatically. This album is the story of one tumultuous year of living, loving (and the falling out thereof). The songwriting is a diary of an eventful 12 months.

“We had a big chat about what this all means to us,” explains Oskar, “And we boiled it down to this: it’s about love, but not necessarily romantic love. It’s about all of those competing emotions and how, if you love one thing, it might detract from loving something else.” 'We’re Having A Barn Dance' succeeds and surpasses the duo’s aims. It’s an album that is manifestly ambitious both in its production sound and as songwriters clearly finding greater confidence in their future pathway. As one fan commented on YouTube: “You go. You go and be great. With your Lavender.” Hear, hear.

                                              Daniel O'Sullivan

                                              Eros

An English composer and multi-instrumentalist, Daniel O'Sullivan’s career has been marked by versatility and innovation. In addition to his work with Sonoton, he has composed extensively for the legendary KPM music library, contributing to its storied legacy of production music. As a deep virtuoso and collaborator, O'Sullivan has also played in a number of influential projects, including Ulver, Sunn O))), This Is Not This Heat, Grumbling Fur and Miracle (with Steve Moore), leaving an indelible mark on the contemporary experimental music landscape.

A stunning song cycle of hypnotic, experimental contemporary chamber music composed for a 14-piece ensemble. Combining minimalism, complex syncopation, detailed acoustic textures, weird intervals and samurai precision, this record will elegantly blow your mind.

When Daniel first sent us this, he pitched it as “Liquid Swords meets Michael Nyman”. Trust us, he wasn't wrong. A "unique hybrid orchestral music", it presents a confluence of Daniel's longstanding fixations; indeed, there's elements of Nyman, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Magma, Aaron Copland and RZA. But this is wholly O'Sullivan's.

O’Sullivan’s first foray into classically informed chamber music, Eros is a culmination of his long-standing fixations and expansive musical influences. The album features arrangements that are as detailed as they are emotionally resonant, showcasing his unparalleled ear for intervals and mastery of counterpoint. The music brims with complex rhythmic syncopation and a sensitivity to texture and space, resulting in a soundscape that is both intoxicating and dauntingly precise.

Recorded June 2023 and February 2024, in Brussels, London and Carmarthenshire, Wales, Eros features members of Echo Collective (Neil Leiter and Margaret Hermant), Thighpaulsandra (from seminal post-industrial band Coil), and jazz pioneer Oren Marshall. Daniel's sonic weapons of choice, in his own inimitable words, were "Big Bad Drum, Pee Anne Oh, Low End Brass, Willowy Winds & Samurai Strings." You get the picture. As a cyclical suite, this is a record that really needs to be heard in its entirety, from start to finish, to truly appreciate the genius at work here.

A jaw-dropping statement of intent, the minimalist "Golden Verses" sets the tone with its complex cue which has your neck snapping right when it feels like it needs to. Listen and you'll understand. A syncopated tangle of sharp strings, crunchy bass, drums percussion and bright piano and mallets vie for position with French horn and woodwind melody in the most compelling and unexpected ways. Quite simply, it's one of the finest album openers I've ever heard. It's followed by the atmospheric rippling minimalism of "Lyre Lyre", a gorgeous gem with shimmering chimes, bright melody, human percussion and syncopated pizzicato strings. It kinda comes on like a less-abstract Boards Of Canada, bursting with typical wonderment. The piano and string-drenched "Dolorous Stroke" effortlessly builds its warm, pastoral orchestration with flowing piano arpeggio, steadfast drums, expressive string quartet, rich low brass, woodwind and lyrical flute. Just sublime.

The insistent frenetic propulsion of "Plain Paper" is utterly beguiling, featuring a determined string motif, urgent drums and percussion, driving low brass and breathless, energetic flute. The haunting, interweaving string arpeggios that propel "Grapes Draped" presents a claustrophobic minimalism for chaos and darkness, with growling low woodwind and brass, spiky harpsichord, skittering flutes and tight drums. Up next, "Xanix Annum" is a stately minimalist waltz with expressive lyrical string quartet and delicate woodwind, anchored by drums and percussion. "Painting Rose" is a bouncy stop-start track with angular syncopated strings and a piano pulse underneath bright harpsichord and flutes. "Rotunda Garden" presents ethereal textural minimalism for landscapes and reflection with flowing string arpeggios, warm, low woodwind drones, floating choir and cymbal swells. Closing out this extraordinary side of music, the glowing, flowing minimalism of "Flowry Orb" features urgent organ, piano and woodwind arpeggios, half-time drums with shimmering cymbals, a soaring, beautiful violin solo and hypnotic vocal chant.

Side 2 opens with "Theia Mania" a determinedly off-kilter, angular track featuring low wind, brass and drum stomp in dialogue with lively string trio, woodwind and solo horn. The light, airy minimalism of "Painting Percy" is built around an interplay of rhythmic motifs for piano, low brass, bassoon, fluttering flutes, urgent strings, drums and percussion whilst "For Archetypes" is a delicate, gently syncopated chamber cue for nostalgia, nature, reflection and moments of calm, with steady piano motif, intimate woodwind and French horn, and warm, graceful strings. The urgent Ars Memoriae is a propulsive march for progress, processes and industry, underpinned by driving tuba, with determined strings, resolute drums, and vivid, expressive flute, clarinet and French horn.

The syncopated energetic minimalism of "Mirrored Seven" presents layers of melodic and cyclical piano, drums, low brass, harp, flute and strings. "Pure Ornament" follows, a slowly evolving chamber cue with flowing clarinet, string and harp arpeggio, plodding tuba and percussion, fluttering flute and graceful, lyrical solos. Stunning! Up next, "Brave Boy" moves from its tender, warm, lullaby-like intro with lyrical flute, clarinet and strings before opening into a playful backend driven by a bouncy tuba riff and syncopated piano, woodwind, string trio, and drums and percussion. Rounding out this astonishing piece, "Waxen Waned" is a warm, pastoral chamber cue with light lyrical woodwind, tender French horn and subtly pulsing string trio.

Mastering for this vinyl edition was overseen by Be With regular Simon Francis, and it was cut by the esteemed Cicely Balston at Abbey Road Studios to be pressed in the Netherlands by Record Industry.

                                                  Chiminyo

NRG 4 (feat. Marysia Osu, James Akers, Daniel Casimir, Lyle Barton & Tilé Gichigi-Liperé)

Chiminyo is a UK-based jazz/electronic artist and the founder of the new label NRG Discs (having previously released on Brownswood, Nightdreamer, Gearbox, and Astigmatic, with artists such as Gary Bartz, Shabaka Hutchings, Maisha, Nubya Garcia, Cykada, Uniri, as well as solo). Chiminyo is a versatile musician who blends the raw energy of live drums and percussion with cutting-edge electronic production.

His early solo releases showcased his knack for unique approaches to making music, using self-coded software to trigger synths and samples from every cymbal crash and drum hit, eliminating loops and click-tracks. This DIY, tech-driven methodology allowed Chiminyo complete, spontaneous control over his music—all from the stool behind his drum kit—creating a sound that is both daring and innovative.

Chiminyo's latest project, NRG, continues this trend of innovative thinking. Born from discussions around the UK jazz scene, Chiminyo concluded that this musical expression is less about "jazz" and more about the energy (NRG) that fuels it. As a result, NRG has evolved into a semi-regular event where Chiminyo brings together some of London's finest musicians for live, improvised performances that encapsulate the spirit of the scene. These live recordings are then given the magic production treatment by Chiminyo and co-producer Aviv Cohen, transforming them into the masterpieces we get to hear on wax.

The first three NRG LPs were a massive success, generating over 600,000 streams, selling over 800 copies (without distribution support), and receiving airplay on BBC Radio, Jazz FM, NTS, Soho Radio, and many more. High-profile DJs like Gilles Peterson and Jamz Supernova championed the albums, which were also covered in print by The Guardian, Jazzwise, Echoes Magazine, and various online channels. This success led to an invitation to record a live album at Ronnie Scott's, one of London's most iconic jazz venues—an incredible opportunity for any artist.

NRG 4 brings together some of the best jazz and electronic musicians in London. The album features Marisia Osu (harp), James Akers (tenor saxophone), Daniel Casimir (double bass), Lyle Barton (synthesizers), and Tilé Gichigi-Liperé (live electronics)—an all-star lineup whose members have released multiple records on Concord, Brownswood, Jazz Re:freshed, Astigmatic and more, and have collaborated with artists such as Laura Misch, Nubya Garcia, Blue Lab Beats and Emma-Jean Thackray. Three tracks are graced with features from Jorja Smith's backing vocalist BAELY and Cuban saxophone maestro Regis Molina.

                                                  Limited to 400 12" LPs (350 standard, 50 screen-printed limited edition).

                                                  Danny Howells

                                                  Throb

Danny Howells debuts on Rekids with the ‘Throb’ EP. The legendary DJ’s DJ first EP for Radio Slave’s imprint sees him pair with keyboard player Elliott Herrington

Howells, a quietly revered figure in house music since the mid ‘90s, delves deep across the ‘Throb’ EP, which celebrates subtle drum programming, otherworldly keys and soundscapes throughout. The cossetting warmth of ‘Throb’, a track which tips the smallest of nods to Danny’s role in the heyday of progressive house, was born out of a late-night studio session - long forgotten about and then rediscovered, re-appraised, as so many great tracks are.

‘Thrunk’, another supremely heady cut, follows and sees keys slide around the mix, modulated and tweaked just enough to create a constant feeling of movement without losing balance, firmly rooted by a bassline that Howells, contrary to his usual practice, wrote first.

Danny Howells is a darling of British dance music. Emerging in the late 1990s with the likes of the era-defining Jackpot Records, his journey in dance music has always been about music, which has seen him eschew frantic touring and production schedules in favour of doing what he loves. Famous, for those in the know, as Cassy’s favourite DJ, Howell’s deft touch and subtlety as a DJ and Producer are evident in spades on ‘Throb’

If you're reading this you will probably already know that this Cruise Music series has been full of gold over the previous instalments. Whoever is in charge for curation has pulled it off again with four more funky and disco infused house gems. Keller's opener is a classy mix of filtered vocals and drum loops with an aching soul edge. Mark Funk offers a more party starting disco bumper with classic vocal hooks and Danny Cruz takes things onto a summer terrace with glorious horns and uplifting grooves. Makito shuts down with the dusty deep house shuffles and party atmospheres of 'Jackin With Millie.'

Walk Dance Talk Sing - 2025 Repress

'Walk Dance Talk Sing’ is the seventh album by much-loved Crazy P AKA Danielle Moore, Jim Baron and Chris ‘Toddy’ Todd. Due to years experience in the studio and wowing crowds (both live and as DJs) ‘Walk Dance Talk Sing’ is steeped in the history of quality club sounds. Proper deep house, boogie, funk and soul is mixed with modern electronic pop then sprinkled liberally with disco dust. Confident, sophisticated and stylish yet playful and adventurous, it finds Crazy P in an empowered new purple patch – both comfortable in their own skin and unafraid to try new things.

Way before the rise in prominence of disco, house and soulful pop from the likes of Todd Terje, Disclosure or Jessie Ware, Crazy P have spearheaded the revival (and perpetuation) of these sounds since 1997. Their status as respected, vital players has maintained throughout nearly 20 years, and with the bright future of ‘Walk Talk Dance Sing’, they remain leading lights worthy of yet more recognition.

Lost Themes - 10th Anniversary Expanded Edition

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of 'Lost Themes', Sacred Bones are thrilled to present an expanded art edition of the album with art by Greg Ruth. This special release includes an additional 7-inch featuring two previously unreleased tracks from the original recording session - 'Cruisin’ With Mr. Scratch' and 'Dominator'. Upon its initial release, 'Lost Themes' was praised for its evocative soundscapes ranging from horror to science fiction, each track conjuring a distinct atmosphere without the need for accompanying visuals. The expanded edition of 'Lost Themes' not only celebrates a decade of John Carpenter’s standalone musical journey but also enriches the album’s legacy with new material that captures the spirit of its original sessions. Whether revisiting this masterpiece or experiencing it for the first time, listeners will find themselves immersed in Carpenter’s hauntingly beautiful worlds once again.

He's the original (and maybe only self-proclaimed?) house gangster and he is back in 2025 and sounding as good as ever. Puerto Rico by way of Chicago's DJ Sneak makes beats as raw as the meat he likes to chuck on his BBQ grill and UK house legend Nail must be a fan cause it's his label he lands on now. This is a solid four-tracker that ticks all the boxes with its killer grooves and smart loops. 'All I Need In Life' is a playful opener, 'Das Gud!' gets more intense and trippy with its bleepy melodic refrains and 'Help Me Somebody' then sinks back into loose and dusty, disco-tinged drums with classic cowbell hits. 'What You Expecting From Me' is a sweaty and gritty warehouse banger to close with aplomb.

Tales From The Dancefloor : Manchester / The Warehouse Project / Parklife / Sankeys / The HacIenda

The must-read memoir from the visionary figure behind Manchester's legendary music scene, from The Haçienda to The Warehouse Project. Tales From the Dance Floor is an electrifying journey into the heart of Manchester’s music culture with its most influential promoter. Over the past three decades, Sacha Lord has hosted countless iconic parties, booked legendary DJs, and shaped an underground scene that influenced a generation.

Working with iconic acts including the Prodigy, New Order, the Chemical Brothers, Snoop Dogg, Fat Boy Slim, Andrew Weatherall, Aphex Twin, Four Tet, the Gallagher brothers and Jamie XX, he has thrown some of the biggest parties that the UK has ever seen. But it wasn’t an easy road to get there. As this no-holds-barred account makes clear, Manchester’s music revolution was fuelled by raw energy, creativity, enterprise and a number of other unidentified substances.

From drive-by shootings to gang turf wars and nights out that never ended, Sacha Lord reveals, at 130bpm, the highs – and lows – of life bringing some of the planet’s biggest stars to the world’s greatest city. Featuring makeshift helipads, oysters with Grace Jones and more drugged-up rats than you could shake a big stick at, Tales From the Dance Floor is an absolute banger of a book.

                                                          Dance Music 4 Bad People

"I’ve been partying since 1984,” says Jamal Moss, the living Chicago legend known by his dedicated cult following as the one, the only, Hieroglyphic Being. “40 years later, it’s drastically different - everybody’s angry!” So sets the stage for 'Dance Music 4 Bad People', the artist’s first album for Smalltown Supersound. Tapping back into the same cosmic frequencies responsible for the prolific house virtuoso’s most vital work, the album sees Moss coaxing nine anthems for those up to no good from out of the ether. With driving drum machine workouts and low-slung synth sexuality, Hieroglyphic Being pays homage to human fallibility, drawing focus on the revolutionary potential of house music and club culture that is so often lost to the chaos of the present. “I have yet to walk into a club and see everybody hug and say: Let’s forgive each other, let’s move forward and make the world a better place,” he levels. “With all these conversations about sexuality, ethnicity, politics, whatever, when you walk into an environment with the music, you are supposed to celebrate all of that. Let it be and come together.”

Now a regular feature on the North East imprint, Chicago legend Rahaan returns to Hot Biscuit for another expertly constructed double header. "For Dancing & Singing" utilizes a funky-rock-disco number to devastating effect. The kind of stuff you'd hear on Creative Use or To Rack and Ruin - big smiles and wiggling hips guaranteed when this fiery joint drops!

On the floor, Rahaan gets his mits around jazz-funk staple - War's "Galaxy". Adding extra synth licks and (I think) bolstering the already busy percussion section with a few more rhythms, it's a suitably epic tweak on this already monstrous track! They don't get much bigger in my opinion, but thankfully Rahaan does it all the justice it deserves. Trust me - I'd say if he didn't!

Super limited copes - you know what to do!

Coaxing out the band’s gothic undertones, Twitch pulls away a billowing sheet to reveal layers of guitar feedback that recall the resplendent gloom of This Mortal Coil or Sunn O))).

Mirko & Meex kick off with the sunset and Balearic house vibes of 'Amore', then Mark Funk and Danny Cruz combine for the freewheeling and horn-led house celebrations of 'Sizzlin.' Jonk & Spook's 'Cafe De Mar' brings some lively late afternoon melodies and smooth cruising beats, and last but not least is Akami with 'In The Night Time,' a deep and dusty number to get heads locked in and vibing once the sun sets.

                                                                            Dan’s Boogie

What is a “boogie”? In the common tongue, it’s a dance or an occasion to dance. This being a Destroyer album and not the common tongue, the implications of a title like 'Dan’s Boogie' are at once more alluring and dangerous. “A boogie is a hustle, a scam that doesn’t quite work, the moves we make when we’re up against it,” explains Dan Bejar. “I think of spy work, double agents, sleeping with one eye open, an eye on the exits. But I also think of petty street-level victories and losses and improv.”

To record 'Dan’s Boogie', Bejar had to burst through a series of intentional and unintentional barriers to write the songs. Initially challenging himself to not write songs so the ideas would well up inside of him until they breached containment, the months following the completion of LABYRINTHITIS turned into one year then two, at which point Bejar gave himself a New Year’s resolution to play the piano every day for an hour. That lasted about four days, but the songs Bejar credits as coming from that resolution 'Cataract Time', 'Hydroplaning Off the Edge of the World', 'Bologna', and 'Dan’s Boogie' among them are all-timer Destroyer songs across the vast spectrum Bejar and his collaborators have established for themselves: spectacle-laden pop epics, personal piano ballads, and smouldering works of mood that blur the lines between song and novel and cinema, each brimming with the urgency of a state secret in the mind of a tortured spy.

Lead single 'Bologna' is the most radical frame for this energy, as it’s the first time Bejar wrote a song where he imagined himself as a supporting character. Taking lead is Fiver’s Simone Schmidt, whose voice tough and expressive, piercing through the murk of the scene is a siren’s call that haunts the album. The gravity of their voice pulls 'Dan’s Boogie' into order around a sense of impending doom, the way a fatale’s promise of the unusual and the ecstatic dooms the principal character of an erotic thriller.

'Hydroplaning Off the Edge of the World' is a delicious bit of contradiction, a peppy song that came out of the havoc Bejar was intentionally wreaking on himself its holiday cheeriness making the angst of its lyrics go down smoothly until the song veers off the road. “We are now entering a new phase,” Bejar intones, introducing layers of guitar and synthesizer that considerably darken the palette as he alternates between singing and speaking.

Contradiction informs much of 'Dan’s Boogie', the fog swirling around Bejar illuminated by the friction between competing truths and tastes, as when his interest in jazzy ballads runs aground on producer and bassist John Collins’ interest in bands like Led Zeppelin and Scritti Politti. When Bejar told Collins that he was thinking of Sammy Davis Jr., the title track bloomed into being, Bejar adopting a Rat Pack swagger with almost delusional glee against a dreamy soundscape of soaring guitars, lush horns, jazz drumming, spaced-out synths, and, perhaps truest to how Bejar sees himself, plinking lounge piano. In terms of shaping sound, the centerpiece of 'Dan’s Boogie' may be 'Cataract Time', an eight-minute epic that ranks as some of the heaviest lyrics Bejar has ever written, and one of Destroyer’s most musically intricate compositions. Borne aloft on an easygoing groove, Bejar’s lyrics are transfigured, their melancholy tasting almost counterintuitively like hope. It’s an intimate song that puts away Destroyer’s usual urban fable milieu in exchange for bracing interiority, but its lilting groove can see a future, one that Bejar and his band are eager to meet.

Where previous Destroyer albums were locked in combat with the world, 'Dan’s Boogie' dances with it, its nine reveries coalescing into one long hustle. Dan Bejar’s eye may be on the exits, but he’s not leaving anytime soon.

                                                                              STAFF COMMENTS

There are layers of appreciation for Bejar's music that are drawn from an appreciation of Balearic music, IDM and post-punk much like there are shared elements with disco and folk but does it sound like any of these? Nope. Destroyer as always, sounding just like Destroyer. Awesome.

“We can still hold the line of beauty, form, and beat. No small accomplishment in a world as challenging as this one... hard times require furious dancing. Each of us is proof” Alice Walker, Hard Times Require Furious Dancing (2010)

Snapped Ankles have given up trying to make sense of it all. The forest only offers so much protection. Feeding on a diet of fractured narratives, meme culture, viral moments and the very worst of human impulses weighs heavy. The woodwose hold up a mirror to the absurdity of modern life once again. The only sane response is to dance. Make your way to the clearing, gather around the megalith of speakers, drum machines, amps and synthesisers and dance like there’s no tomorrow.

Hard Times Furious Dancing is an invitation to all those lost in the unrelenting noise of the present, to leave it all behind and come together in the forest. Driven by the primitive thrust of their single-oscillator ‘log’ synths, high and low culture collide in a surreal, free flowing narrative - but the rhythm is universal. This is easily the closest Snapped Ankles have come to capturing their rapturous live energy in the studio. It’s everything you’ve come to know and love from a Snapped Ankles album, amped all the way up until the ground begins to shake.

The sound of Hard Times Furious Dancing evolved at Snapped Ankles’ South London ‘Forest Rayve’ club nights in 2024 in response to that age-old primal urge to bring people together and make them move. It’s the first time the woodwose have road tested new material to this extent before committing it to tape since debut album Come Play The Trees, and in doing so have harnessed that feral energy once again. This surreal human/woodwose connection is the very best release from an algorithm that knows you better than you know yourself. Dance it all loose.

Though there are elements of punk-funk and IDM woven through the hammering maelstrom, this is still at heart an indie album with a BIG vibe. Incandescent, aggressive in parts and wholly immersive throughout.

Emerging as a raw alternative to the powerhouses of Trax and DJ International during the mid- ‘80s, Dance Mania continued to represent street-level Chicago club music into the ‘90s, helping to pioneer the Ghetto House sound.

Hardcore Traxx traces the full story of the label from its heyday. Founded in 1985 and managed by Ray Barney from Barney’s Distribution HQ on Ogden Avenue (moving later to West Roosevelt Road), Dance Mania hit the ground running with its second release in ’86, the incendiary ‘Hardcore Jazz’ EP by Duane & Co. Barney quickly became a trustworthy outlet for early house and acid productions by upcoming Chicago artists such as Lil Louis, Marshall Jefferson and Farley Keith aka Farkey “Jackmaster” Funk.

The label set out its stall with a series of landmark Chicago releases including ‘7 Ways’ by Hercules, Li’l Louis’ ‘The Original Video Clash’ and international smash ‘House Nation’ by Housemaster Boyz. During the ‘80s, it cemented its reputation for uncompromising club records and DJ Tools with sounds spanning raw garage (Victor Romeo’s ‘Love Will Find A Way’), acid trax (Robert Armani) and quality house (Da Posse).

Into the ‘90s, Barney unleashed the groundbreaking ‘Hit It From The Back’ by Traxmen and Eric Martin, ushering in a primitive new sound around faster, stripped down rhythms and X-rated party-starting lyric lines. Barney remembers, “Guys used to call in and ask for music on Dance Mania – they were saying, ‘gimme some of that ghetto stuff’. ’ Dance Mania producer DJ Slugo adds, “when we made Ghetto House… we made music for the b*tches. Music for the grinding sh*t and all of that. ” The sound spawned a whole new swathe of homegrown producers releasing a fast flow of no-compromise dancefloor bangers: Paul Johnson, DJ Deeon, DJ Funk, DJ Milton, Waxmaster and Slugo all became leaders of the scene. The influence of ghetto house became widespread, not least for Daft Punk, whose track ‘Teachers’ from their ‘Homework’ album in 1997 was effectively a tribute to Dance Mania. The new wave of productions also paved the way for the later Chicago juke and footwork scene.

Now revitalised under the leadership of Ray Barney and Parris Mitchell, Dance Mania remains a cornerstone of Chicago’s dance music culture. With Hardcore Traxx, Strut delivers the ultimate tribute to the label, featuring a meticulously curated compilation of its classics, Ghetto House anthems, and hidden gems. The release was produced in collaboration with Dance Mania and compiled by Conor Keeling (creator of the popular Daft Punk-inspired Teachers mix) with contributions from Miles Simpson of Ransom Note. The vinyl edition includes a comprehensive history of the label, artist interviews by DJ Chrissy Murderbot, and rare archival photos.

The Doomsday Clock currently sits at 90 seconds to midnight, the closest the big hand and the little hand have come to signalling our total destruction since the conceptual chronograph was incepted back in 1947. If we’re dancing on the brink then we might as well make sure that the music is great. Step forward Daniel Brandt, of lauded German electroacoustic outfit Brandt Brauer Frick, who leads the apocalyptic rave with his third solo album 'Without Us'.

“The idea for this project began with a small but unsettling experience in South London,” he remembers. “I was looking to buy a single avocado, but every store I went into only seemed to offer them in plastic wrapping, packed in pairs with a little cardboard base. I remember thinking: ‘but the avocado already comes in its own perfect packaging? And I only want one.’ It struck me as absurd that, despite our awareness of the damage plastic causes, unnecessary packaging like this still persists.”

The scenario turned into a farrago - Brandt went from store to store discovering the same nightmare in every shop where every avocado was wrapped in superfluous packaging: “As a touring musician, maybe I have to admit my own carbon footprint is questionable,” he admits, “but it’s countries and corporations that need to quit with the half measures that avail the planet nothing, usually under pressure from powerful, short-termist lobbying groups.”

He continues: “Without Us is about the helplessness of the individual in the climate crisis and the apparent need to take radical global action to change the trajectory of the current threat of a climate disaster. It’s about the despair and inability to be able to properly contribute to change as an individual, even though the general idea is that everybody can play their part. But this part that each individual is supposed to take responsibility for is so small compared to the scale of what is needed. The responsibility must not be with the individual when we’re suffering from decisions by global corporations aiming to get rich quick.”

                                                                                    TRACK LISTING

Good friends and Record Mission co-captains, Dan Tyler (one half of the Idjut Boys) and Nick The Record, take the reins for the third volume of the Mr Bongo Edits 12" series.

With previous editions coming courtesy of Danny Krivit and Luke Una, Dan and Nick set their sights on a hand-picked selection of iconic '70s Cuban recordings for this three-track cosmic whirlwind.

Across the A side, Dan picks out two Juan Pablo Torres tracks, with Nick taking on Grupo Los Yoyi on the B. Tweaking, extending and reworking the recordings with a dose of extra magic they remould the tracks to ft the sounds and structure of today's dancefloors.

Having formed the Idjut Boys in the early '90s, Dan and Conrad McDonnell have crafted a dubbed-out, disco-tinged style that permeates their countless productions, remixes and DJ sets. Speaking of the two tracks Dan has chosen to rework for this EP he mentions, "Having been caught under an avalanche of good music from Mr Bongo, I took it upon myself to extend and add effects to a couple of the fantastic tracks from the Juan Pablo Torres LPs they recently reissued. Just for disco jockey and barn dance use."

First, Dan looks to Cuban maestro Juan Pablo Torres' 1978 album 'Algo Nuevo', taking one of the standout tracks 'Cacao' and giving it more space to breathe. Teasing out the scatting vocal line and percussive climax that nods to George Kranz's '83 electronic disco anthem 'Din Daa Daa', whilst adding more cosmic tripped-out synths and space echoed dubs, Dan builds the tension to fine effect. This track sounds immense on a big club system and the swirling synths felt like they were lifting the ceiling off when we played it at the amazing La Paloma ballroom in Barcelona. Dan then turns his attention to Torres' 1977 'Super Son' album, giving the psych-Latin funk track 'Pastel En Descarga' a dub makeover. Rich in delay and drama, whilst maintaining and extending the breakers funk intro, he juices it up into a punchy, no nonsense, cosmic-funk delight.

On the B side, Tangent co-founder, long- standing Life Force resident and seasoned rework master, Nick The Record, revisits an edit that he originally constructed in 2009. Clocking in at over double the length of the original cut, Nick's edit of Grupo Los Yoyi's 1977 cut 'Paco La Calle', is made with dancers firmly in mind. This secret weapon builds and simmers, with the drums and percussion pushing and pulling before the psychedelic synth lines return in a sweltering fashion. In this new 2025 version, Dan is drafted in to work some brilliant new synth lines into the mix.

The album soundtracks the topics of mental health, hangover/hangxiety, bad decisions and hazy memories, contrasted with moments of serenity, calm and chill.

Dans Ta Nuit is a compilation of tracks that were recorded between 1984-1987 after the band was formed in Marseille by Olivier Aubin, Marie-Eve Bensussan, Patrick Loubet and Nicolas Pelissie. They have remained enigmatic over the years and released just one 7" single in the form of 1988's 'Paradis I', while they also appeared on the La Muse Venale compilation. this super overview of their sound offers nine tracks, seven of which land on wax for the first time, and all of them are raw yet charged with tension. Tracks like 'Sin of Flesh' and 'Eros Phobia' are essential coldwave sounds full of both despondency and hope. A great introduction to an essential act.

This is the horns cut of his killer lick of drum song, by sax man Lennox Brown. A different mix of this was released on the flip side of the New York pressing of Tappa Zukie’s cut, where it was titled “Ivanhoe Strikes Again.” This mix, with its dub version, were put to tape for a single release titled “Danger Zone” which never happened at the time in the late ‘70s. Another previously unreleased heater, now you can play this one alongside the other cuts of this rhythm appearing on our Record Smith compilation albums.

Rolling bass licks, saturated synth stabs and sweetly overdriven guitar round out the instrumental side, a perfect vehicle for the entrancing vocals that sit atop. Beautiful.

Back with a bang! Road To Happiness marks the triumphant return of Manchester’s one and only Dislocation Dance - after a 7-year long hiatus. The new album - their sixth - features ten new and fresh songs.

Main songwriters Ian Runacres (guitar/vocals) and Phil Lukes (bass/vocals) most probably never sounded better. Kinda like Manchester’s Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards they create killer grooves a la Chic and The Real Thing. Melodies galore & disco euphoria plus beautiful vocals. To Love And Be Loved! Daft Punk meets Everything But The Girl.

Gorgeous chord progressions, disco strings and wah-wah guitars - just listen to I Just Need A Friend. 70s Soul - beamed into today! The title song pays homage to Northern Soul classics by Candi Staton and Phyllis Hyman. There’s also a healthy dose of Todd Rundgren in there. The Sound Of Philadelphia meets The Sound Of Manchester.

DD’s female vocalist Sam Heywood shares lead vocals with Ian Runacres and Phil Lukes. Check out her stunning performance on It’s Not True! Featuring superb trumpet action by Jon Board.

What The Funk (Theme) - DD getting down and dirty - sounds like the sexy love child of Funkadelic and Paul McCartney & Wings’ Zoo Gang. Like a lost funky 70s movie theme.

Ian Runacres formed DD in Manchester, and soon got trumpet player Andy Diagram on board who later joined The Pale Fountains and James. They created their unique mix of Post-Punk, New Wave, Jazz, Disco, 60s French Pop and Soundtracks. The NME called their mix of styles “the real mutant disco”. SOUNDS even voted them the “city’s best band”. The band played their first ever gig at the legendary Factory in Manchester, recorded sessions for John Peel, Janice Long and Kid Jensen, and went on their own eclectic journey. Always maintaining their unique DD sound.

Now they are back. With a truly fabulous album. On Marina - the perfect home for them. Let’s get (it) on... the road to happiness.

Toy Tonics continues with re-releasing the best tracks of Gomma Records. The German label that between 2001 and 2015 was one of the key imprints of the then so hyped indie dance, new wave funk and proto disco sound (along with James Murphy’s DFA, Trevor Jackson’s Output records and later Ed Banger records). The Y2K sound.. that now starts to become in demand again.

The most important releases on Gomma were by Peaches, WhoMadeWho, The Rammellzee, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem and Nick McCarthy of Franz Ferdinand. Their Gomma-tracks were on the first two parts of this "Gomma Dancefloor Gems" compilations series on Toy Tonics.

Now here comes a 3nd compilation part with music by Dimitri from Paris who also did several EPs on Gomma in the 2000s. Also legendary Belgian disco DJs The Glimmers are featured (they had one album on Gomma in 2008) and UK legend Justin Robertson aka The Deadstock 33’s and one of the first ever releases by Daniel Avery (also on Gomma back then). You find remixes by Nicky Siano (Studio 54 DJs legend) and Horse Meat Disco who back then just started their party series and already were connected to Gomma records. The is an amazing Flamenco Disco track by Spanish producer Hugo Capablanca and T.Keeler that has been hammered by everybody from Optimo to Ivan Smagghe back then and Italian music diggers The Barking Dogs together with now fashion designer Marcelo Burlon are featured with an amazingly catchy Electro Pop track. Of course also Munk who was the founder of Gomma records is on the compilation. Munk is Mathias Modica and as you might know since a few years works under the name Kapote. He was the co-founder of Gomma and later Toy Tonics records. Toy Tonics actually starts as a mini sublabel of Gomma records in 2013 but took over later. While Gomma has been closed since 2015.

Gomma not only was a record label, but was also a home for cutting edge design, wild T-shirt styles, underground exhibitions with new artists from the Berlin scene and crazy poster and fanzine design.

Gomma not only preceded many musical trends by experimenting with club music and mixing up different styles but was also very respected for the graphic design work and almost initiated several graphic design trends of the last years in their poster and sleeve designs. And many record and street wear labels of today look a bit like Gomma was looking before ...

The Gomma visuals world was exposed in a couple of exhibitions around the world and at a big exhibition at Museum Haus der Kunst München before the label was closed in 2015.

                                                                                              STAFF COMMENTS

Jazz re:freshed are proud to present the third studio album by bassist and composer Daniel Casimir.'Balance'encapsulates 'Big Band Energy', with his signature combination of Classical, Jazz and cinematic sounds.

The albumpays homage to the traditions of big band composition and historical significance whilst illustrating contemporary sensibilities.

This ambitious project explores the balance between two large and full sounds of a big band and a string section and is inspired by icon Wayne Shorter's album'Emanon'which made a deep impression on Casimir during the process of creating the album.

An organic development of Casimir's last critically acclaimed album'Boxed In'which featured a jazz quintet alongside a mini chamber Orchestra and was comprised of a woodwind, brass, with a string quartet,'Balance'is a self produced album that takes his musical vision to the next level in his most ambitious body of work to date, leading 26 musicians.

Recorded in November 2022 at Livingston Studios, in a very conscientious recording process which saw piano, bass, and drums recorded together first, followed by trumpet, trombone, saxophone, and the string section and an all star band that consists of figures from the UK Jazz scene, Cassie Kinoshi, Binker, Nubya Garcia, Rosie Turton, Sheila Maurice-Grey and Jay Phelps to name a few alongside a stunning string section performed by the London Contemporary Orchestra.

The final day of recording enlisted the powerful vocal prowess' of Zola Marcelle and Ria Moran to finesse the masterpiece. The track'Music Not Numbers'is an encouraging call to all musicians to not allow streaming culture to affect their creative process and to continue expanding the intrinsic nature of music. Whereas track,'Search for Goldilocks'explores the second meaning behind the album title 'Balance', which is to seek balance within and discover the qualities in life that are "just right".

                                                                                              Dance Of The Red Herrings

Debut solo record from Manchester based writer Nathan McIlroy, formerly of Frazer King.

The record is produced by Jim Noir and his sonic fingerprints sculpt the raw materials into a weird pop opus. Noir is also releasing the record on his Dook Recordings label and played drums and vocals on several tracks.

Recorded by McIlroy’s long-time friend and musical associate, Big A, the songs are laden with cracked harmonies and homemade instruments, including found materials used as percussion. The pair drew on the talents of fellow travellers for backing vocals and rhythm tracks which has resulted in the live outfit expanding to a three piece, with Ben Price (bass) and Charlie Garson (drums) on board.

Commenting on the writing process McIlroy explains:
“It was written during a period of madness and adverse offending behaviours. The songs dash from one theme to another and reflect the mistaken beliefs we cling to when our perceived realities are threatened. It’s also got jokes.”

Opposing a streaming culture that values top tracks and playlists, the record is intended to be heard in one sitting, with Side A showcasing more extroverted songs, in all their loudmouth braggadocio, and Side B being more introspective and honest.

Two-Piers brings you their latest killer compilation in the shape of Richard Norris Presents ‘Weird Scenes from the Hangout (Psychedelic & Freakbeat Dancefloor Anthems 1967-1982). An album curated by Richard Norris (The Grid, Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve, The Time and Space Machine, and more) and centred around Richard’s Liverpool Club Night ’The Hangout’ in the 1980’s.

Richard Norris on how The Hangout came about after being inspired to go to University in Liverpool…..
For a place with a distinctly psychedelic tinge, Liverpool was missing one thing in the mid-eighties. A full-on psychedelic club night. I’d been schooled in all things psychedelic, a result of working at Bam Caruso, a label steeped in psych who lovingly reissued many lysergic greats. It was a fantastic education. I was determined to bring some technicolour sonics to Liverpool.
I found a suitable venue, called Krackers, at the bottom of Mount Pleasant. It was a big basement club, with a stage, video projector, lights, bar, and long tables. In front of the stage, there was ample space for a dance floor. There’s something about clubs in basements. They just work. I chatted to the owner, Bill, who suggested trying out Thursdays for the new night. Inspired by Bam Caruso, and the Soho club Alice in Wonderland, I agreed to take Thursdays on. 50p to get in. The night was named The Hangout.

The Hangout was born in autumn 1984. The place was perfect. Clips of op art psychedelic films copied to VHS tape were projected on to the large screen that covered the stage. There was a smoke machine, a bubble machine, many moving lights. The place opened to a packed dancefloor and stayed that way into 1985 and beyond. There were guest bands, including Zodiac Mindwarp, Mr.Suit featuring Larry from Wimple Winch, Freight Train and the Cardiacs, among others. There were giveaways of sweets, flowers, balloons, and jelly. Tons of jelly.

Musically, the Hangout’s take on psychedelia and freakbeat had one aim - to make you dance. We weren’t trainspotters – it didn’t matter if a record was rare, so long as it grooved and worked on the dancefloor. We’d give equal time to the more bandwagon end of sixties exploitation as to hipper acts. I’d pick up tracks on shopping trips in London with Phil Smee from Bam Caruso, or at Probe in Liverpool, where there was a class selection of psychedelia. Bob and Mick from Probe, and their mate Bernie Connor, became Hangout DJ’s, and brought even further mind-bending madness to the Hangout dancefloor. Standout tunes got played again and again, every week, until tracks like The Left Banke’s ‘I’ve Got Something on My Mind’, the Turtles ‘Buzzsaw’, Can’s ‘Outside Your Door’ and all the other tunes you now hold in your hands, became bona fide Hangout club anthems. The Hangout came and went in a flash, but its legacy of bringing psychedelic foot stompers to the dancefloor carries on. The Hangout left me with a personal love of all things beat and freak. I’ve been pursuing various musical shapes that all have their roots on the Hangout’s psychedelic dancefloor ever since.
I hope you enjoy this compilation. Every track is a tried and tested Hangout anthem.

This time Dave Lee harvests some Disco/Funk gold with his mix of 'Dancin' For Your Love', a foot stompin' Rod Temperton style dancefloor rocket filled with soaring strings, rippling piano, vocal harmonies and killer bass action. Backed up by a cosmic Moog dub which doubles down on the delays and synths. On the flip Dave doths his cap to mid 80's NYC for some serious Proto House biz. Brimming with detuned cowbells, HOUSE basslines & proggy synth arpeggios under a Colonel Abrams-ish vocal. Think Serious Intention meeting Visual in Cultural Vibe's garage.

Social media blew up recently with footage showing Emma Noble debuting ‘JazzCazz’ with her 10 piece band at London’s ‘OMeara’, causing Ramrock’s switchboard to go into meltdown. But here is where the story begins….‘Jazzcazz’ is the musical lovechild of Jazz Funk, House and Rave DJ/promoter, Dan ‘The Drum’ Spalding, dance music DJ/producer Ronnie Turner and DJ/chanteuse, Emma Noble. The inspiration for this 100bpm Jazzer was triggered by Dan and Emma’s love for Coffee’s 1980 iconic disco cover of the original 1967 version of ‘Casanova’, sung by Ruby Andrews and penned by the mighty Jo Armstead, The ensuing trip down to Ronnie Turner’s studio brought the demo to life thanks to Ronnie’s masterful production and
Dan’s deft arrangement. Their genius decision to add Emma Noble’s exquisite vocal delivery was the absolute icing on the musical cake and with all the essential ingredients in place, ‘JazzCazz’ was born. The result is a track that could easily have been released on Blue Note in the 60’s and discovered by crate diggers in 2024. The trio’s cool, jazzy retro spin on Ruby and Coffee’s versions exudes timeless dance floor love - it's definitely ‘not all over, Casanova’.

From East End barrow boy to club nights on the Costas, Dan “The Drum” Spalding has deejayed alongside the likes of Norman Jay MBE, Dave Lee, Craig Charles, Brandon Block, Ashley Beedle and Huey Morgan to name but a few. Having spent his early years quite literally banging the drum for his beloved Spurs, the name stuck and so did his love for all things with a beat. Immersing himself since the age of 14 in Funk & Soul, Reggae, Ska, House, Rare Groove and Hip Hop, Dan went on to co-found ‘The Lockdown Legacy’ DJ events raising thousands for local and national charities, DJ’d at FAITH as well as broadcasting on East London’s Totally Wired Radio, owned by Acid Jazz record label boss, Eddie Piller. In 2023, Dan delved into the production side of music fuelled by his thirst for learning and love of music – ‘JazzCazz’ is the first of many more productions to come.

Ronnie Turner needs no introduction to dance music connoisseurs with a career that started in the early ’80s and continues unabated. He has DJ’d alongside the likes of Sean French, Robbie Vincent, Jeff Young, Greg Edwards, Carl Cox, Danny Tenaglia and Tony Humphries to name but a few. Ronnie’s remix credits include Odyssey, Tortured Soul, Noel Mckoy, Bodyrox, Tom Jones, Richard Seaborne and The JBs with releases on Masterworks Music, Atjazz Records and Yam Who's Midnight Riot. He turned festival promotor in 2020 with Faith’s Stuart Patterson and there is a Goa Festival 2024 waiting to happen! Debuting as a solo artist in 2020, Emma Noble’s sound is rooted in her deep love for rare soul, funk disco and Gospel. Her releases have been embraced by the most respected tastemakers on the scene, receiving radio support from Lauren Lavern, Don Letts, Deb Grant, Tony Blackburn, Gary Crowley, Norman Jay MBE and Eddie Piller, with Craig Charles describing her arrival on the scene as ‘one of the highlights of 2020’. Emma’s 2022 collaboration with Matt Berry resulted in the Psych-Soul cover of Doris’s ’67 release, ‘Beatmaker’, featured on the BAFTA Award winning ‘Toast of Tinseltown’. Emma is also one half of ‘Noble & Heath’, the double decking, dynamic, vinyl only DJ duo, DJ'ing all over the UK & Europe in places such as The Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scotts, XOYO, KOKO, Jazz Cafe, 100 Club and festivals including Glastonbury. Her full band line up shows always sell out along with her self-promoted event 'Soul at The Hall' at the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room.

Derwin Daniels, Soprano Sax player and composer, made this little R&B 45 in 1989. Recorded with vocals by the unfortunately passed away La Donna Wells who brings a Mary J Level performance 3 years before "What's The 411" hit the streets. Slick, deep R&B that's soulful enough for modern soul and disco sets, what's not to love. Flipped with some Jazz Bizznes from Derwin, utter gold!

Following the success of their debut full-length album and it’s lead track “Dragon- fly” (which tracked 300,000 TikTok cre- ations, and over 10 million streams) the brothers recruited Jared Solomon (Sza, Remi Wolf, Teezo Touchdown) to produce their sophomore LP, Coyote, You’re My Star.

Melding vintage sounds with the aesthetic and experience of existing in Gen Z and the digital age, the new LP has already been met with rousing approval, with airtime on the Zane Lowe show on Apple as well as playlist covers like Spotify's State of Jazz.

Released for the first time ever, here is the Dandelion Adventure session that they recorded for the John Peel show in 1990. These tracks have never been released before on any album and were recorded exclusively for Peelie. Featuring a double drum attack (Geoff and Jason), bass (Ajay), guitar (Stan), and vocals (Mark). Recorded on 13 May 1990 at Maida Vale Studios, and broadcast on 18 June 1990. Engineered by Mark Farrar and produced by Dale Griffin….it’s a monster sounding session.

The flip side of the album showcases the group’s very first release….a demo tape they recorded in Blackpool in 1988 on a 4-track recorder (including fan favourite “Speed Trials”). Plus a couple of songs that were recorded in their Oyston Mill rehearsal space in Preston. The whole album is a perfect capsule of the first and last thing the group ever recorded, and a brilliant reminder of the genius that this band exuded.

All on 180g blue vinyl with an insert full of photos, posters, reviews, gigography.

Dandelion Adventure were one of the greatest underground bands to emerge from Lancashire in the late 80s. At a time when the UK was fizzing with great groups like My Bloody Valentine, Bog-Shed, The Pastels, A Witness, bIG fLAME, and whilst more “established” underground giants like The Fall, The Nightingales, and Spacemen 3 were all going strong and steady, Dandelion Adventure certainly held their own. A band tendering the kind of leviathan rhythms that only early ‘80s Fall could have competed with, time changes that would make Captain Beefheart proud, and an experimental streak to get the pulse racing of any On-U-Sound fan.

Starting with their first show in 1988 in Blackpool (they had played 2 loose shows in 1986 and 1987 respectively but 1988 was the launchpad), they fizzed and crackled for 2 years, finishing with their final show, again in Blackpool, in September 1990. In that period they released two albums (both on Action Records from Preston), and recorded a John Peel session…Peel loved the group and supported them with much airplay. In the short period they existed, the likes of My Bloody Valentine and The Pastels specifically asked for DA to open for them. Such was mbv’s love for the band, that they appeared at one show with all 4 members (Kevin, Bilinda, Debbie and Colm) of the group wearing Dandelion Adventure t-shirts onstage. Dinosaur Jr. were big fans of DA and J Mascis can be seen wearing a Dandelion Adventure t-shirt in the “Freak Scene” video. Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth stated in 1989 in Melody Maker : “How’s the British music scene? Is it dead? The only bands I hear there are The Vaselines and Dandelion Adventure. They’re awesome”.

Over a career that spans half a century, Zimmerman’s discography is a sonic memoir. A sprawling collection of records that have explored folk, 12-bar blues, full-band rock concertos and classical piano compositions, his work is also a tribute to the people, experiences and sounds that have shaped his life, amassing in a deeply personal and resonating songbook.

“After years of writing and filling a box with over 500 song sheets, I had finally found my path, my originality, my voice. It had become clear to me that songs of only one kind were worth spending time on: those which had a positive message and a peaceful vibration [...] Just poetry. Little hums that perhaps might lift us all above our daily worries and fears, little hums that try to make the world a better place to live in.” – Tucker Zimmerman

Despite sailing under the radar throughout most of his storied and multi-layered career, the 83-year-old native Californian has received praise from contemporaries like Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker (“Tucker Zimmerman is one of the greatest songwriters of all time,”) and even from one of the greats (David Bowie called Zimmerman, “too qualified for folk.”). Inspired by Lenker’s appreciation for his work, Zimmerman was brought to the States to record the album, with Big Thief (and collaborators Mat Davidson and Zach Burba) serving as his backing band. On many tracks, Lenker meets Zimmerman half-way, their vocals fusing together in a soothing harmony; Zimmerman’s beloved wife, Marie-Claire, who graces the album’s cover also joined the chorus line.

With 'Dance Of Love', listeners will find a multi-faceted and heartfelt record from a songwriter who has had a full and exciting life decorated with meaningful friendships, hard but valuable lessons, worldly experience, and ultimately, lots of love.

Zimmerman's work is evocative and beautiful, and a perfect listen for any fans of Adrienne Lenker or Big Thief.

Everyone wanted Madonna’s 1992 album Erotica to be a scandal. In the midst of a culture war, conservatives wanted it to be proof of the decline of family values. The target of conservative loathing, gay men reeling from the AIDS epidemic wanted it to be a celebration of a sexual culture that had rapidly slipped away.

And Madonna herself wanted to sell scandal, which is why she released Erotica in the same season as her erotic thriller Body of Evidence and her pornographic coffee-table book simply titled Sex. But Erotica is more sentimental than pornographic. This ambivalence over sex is what makes the album crucial both for understanding its time and for navigating culture a generation later.

As queer politics were transitioning from sexual liberation to civil rights like same-sex marriage, Madonna tried to do both. Her songs proved formative for works of queer theory, which emerged in the academy at the same time as the album. And Erotica was—and is—central to a developing consciousness about cultural appropriation.

Madonna offered up Erotica as a key entry in the 1990s culture wars. Her album speaks all the more urgently to the culture wars of today

Written during a blistering 2023 which saw Ezra Collective tour the world, and become the first jazz act to win the Mercury Prize, Dance, No One's Watching is a documentation of the many dance floors they encountered. From London to Chicago, Lagos to Sydney, dance and rhythm connect us. These songs are a testament to that spirit.

The album was recorded at Abbey Road studios, where the band was surprised by a group of close friends and family, turning the sessions into a live communal celebration of love, music, and dancing.

Dance, No One's Watching is a record that speaks to the unifying power of dance. Set for release in September 2024, it is a powerful and distinctive addition to a catalogue that continues to blaze a bold new trail in contemporary British music.

We’ve collectively at the shop been huge fans since their first EP landed six years ago now. Watching them succeed and shape the direction of the jazz scene has been truly inspiring, they’ve honed their sound over the years with a self-assured confidence that we love to see.

The man himself kicks off with Maurissa Rose on the loosely chugging, deep and soulful 'Open Me Up' (a first taste of the upcoming album together). He then slips into US garage style with his popular remix of The Trammps' 'I've Gotta Stand Up' that harks back to the glory days of 90s Soulful House. Felix Buxton's Celestial Being & Citizens Of The World Choir's 'Raise The Vibration' gets a gloriously sunny and positive Crackazat club mix before Lee closes the release with squelching synth in the form of his Boogified mix of Soul Dhamma's classic 'Flower.'

Both tracks will also feature on the band’s next album, The Soul Of... The Fabulous Courettes, in slightly different form! “We worked with Richard Gottehrer, who for us is like a songwriter god!” says Flavia. “He worked at the Brill Building and co-wrote ‘I Want Candy’. A mutual friend played him ‘Keep Dancing’ and he left a message on my phone saying, ‘I love your track and I really dig the lyrics’. He ended up mixing ‘Keep Dancing’ and ‘Boom Boom Boom´.”

“Because I'm the one most responsible for the lyrics, I actually allowed myself to open up to some personal things,” admits Flavia. “We lost both of our fathers. My father died of COVID. But my relationship with my father was non-existent. He abandoned me and my sister. It was a very difficult relationship and it’s not so easy for me to talk about it. ‘Keep Dancing’ is about his death and how he still has a power over me and bringing me down and what it’s like to break free from that. You know, some parents are cruel.” “It’s a special subject to sing about and to make pop music out of,” says Martin. “It’s actually celebrating moving on and I think that’s really fantastic. ‘Keep Dancing’ is absolutely smashing.” “Life is so fragile,” smiles Flavia. “But what are you supposed to do? I’d rather dance.”

Hidden Notes Records (Spindle Ensemble, Fran & Flora, Josh Semans) and Tardigrade Records (Cosmo Sheldrake, Howl) are excited to announce a unique collaboration to release ‘Selected Worlds’, the monumental and ambitious debut triple album by composer and pianist Daniel Inzani.

Over the past 2 decades you might have seen Inzani performing with dozens of bands from Bristol’s underground alternative and avant-garde scene, blending classical, jazz, contemporary, improvisation, unusual harmony and rhythms as a band leader and collaborator.

He’s released an avant-garde collaborative album with Alabaster dePlume, is the musical director and arranger for Cosmo Sheldrake’s 19 piece live band, leads his own critically acclaimed modern chamber quartet Spindle Ensemble and (the now disbanded) 8 piece Ethiopian Jazz meets Frank Zappa group Tezeta, He has toured worldwide as a keys player, collaborated with Canadian ensembles Evergreen Club Contemporary Gamelan and London Symphonia and co-founded Bristol’s experimental collective Bloom, leading to tours and releases with UK rocksteady favourites Count Bobo, the psychedelic space doo-wop of Dubi Dolzcek and many more.

After years of recording, touring and eclectic composing he has gathered a trusted set of musicians who are both skilled improvisers and virtuoso players to record an instrumental triple album for release under his own name.

The 3 vinyl discs act as albums in their own right, each with different sets of musicians, instrumentations, genres and intentions. The 3 discs were recorded live over 3 day periods in quick succession, with Daniel’s regular collaborator Cosmo Sheldrake engineering the recording sessions. It’s quite possibly the only album you’ll ever hear that starts with a neo-impressionist string quartet, goes on to merge avant-garde symphonic arrangements with group improvisation and ends with an 8 piece cosmic jazz band wigging out, yet Inzani’s voice is clear throughout making for a cohesive 2 hour odyssey from the mind of a composer whose idiosyncratic style thrives through variety.

Listeners will hear influences from the aforementioned composers including Mingus, Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou, Ravel and Moondog in Inzani’s music but might also find the soundtracks of Morricone and Jonny Greenwood nestled alongside the loose freeform leanings of Alabaster dePlume, the contemporary jazz of Kamasi Washington and the unique collaboration by Floating Points and Pharoah Sanders (minus the electronics perhaps.)

It was released by Polydor Records in 2001 and became a worldwide Top 10 hit - reaching number two in the UK Singles Chart and achieving double-platinum certification.

In January 2024 the single was back once again at number two in the UK Chart, following its use in the infamous last scene of Emerald Fennell’s black comedy psychological thriller ‘Saltburn’, and the song’s subsequent surge of popularity on TikTok.
