“Mistook Play for Play is me exploring and having fun, predominantly using chaos and feedback. Watching my kids play and be fascinated with my machines inspired me to do the same; they didn't have a purpose or a goal in mind, they just do - play is a creative act” - Stuart Cook
Mistook Play for Play is a rephrase/rework of a line from a poem by David Harsent. The poem is called A Dream Book. The album itself is all about play and the track titles are all 'forms of play', taken from the 1961 book Man, Play and Games by the French sociologist Roger Cailkois.

STAFF COMMENTS
Barry says: While 'Mistook Play For Play' is conceptually lighthearted, it presents a rich palette of electronica, from full-spectrum drone to shimmering wooze. Stuart Cooke has managed to pull all sorts of emotional heft and driven, industrial weight from his instruments resulting in a playful but seriously enjoyable electronic feastTRACK LISTING

Barry says: Roel Funcken presents a suite of electronic drifts and rich meditative synth, industrial atmospherics and brittle, aquatic modular blips. It's a huge body of work that feels both consistent and transportive, with as many moments of crystalline beauty as there are intimidating walls of noise. A lovely, fascinating behemoth.Crescent is widely regarded as one of John Coltrane's finest albums, featuring the talents of McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones. During 1964, John Coltrane spent the least amount of time in the recording studio of his entire career as a leader. It wasn't until April 27th that he, along with Tyner, Garrison and Jones went to the familiar surroundings of Rudy Van Gelder's Englewood Cliffs studio to record all the tracks that appear on Crescent. In a hint of things to come for the Classic Quartet, both Garrison and Jones are featured on extended solos on the album’s second side. Verve’s Acoustic Sounds Series features transfers from the original analog tapes mastered by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QPR. The series is supervised by Chad Kassem, CEO of Acoustic Sounds, and releases are presented in deluxe gatefold tip-on packaging.

Matt Jones’ Crescent release ‘Resin Pockets’, their first album in ten years, on Geographic Music.
‘Resin Pockets’ is an album that nestles beautifully into a long history of visionary outsider English pop craft, in the same vein as the isle’s solitary voices, all singing against the grain - the playfulness of Kevin Ayers; the grace of Vashti Bunyan; the rhapsody of Robert Wyatt; the melancholy of Epic Soundtracks; the revelations of Bill Fay. It’s an album of joyous melody and evocative poetry, of community and intimacy.
Matt predominantly performed the album, in collaboration with his brother Sam on drums, tambourine and ‘lookout’, though some other familiar faces appear, too: Kate Wright of Movietone as well as Lisa Brook and Michal William of Headfall feature too.
