My Grey Horse

The Marley Banks EP

My Grey Horse are a band of brothers…3 to be precise. Singers and guitarists Paul, John & Oobah Butler are completed by close friends Joe Nicklin on drums and bassist Tom Mott.

The five-piece began writing in 2008 and in late 2009 they began working on transforming the work into a live and working act. Since then there has been a groundswell of buzz around the band, attributed to their superb songwriting and fantastic live shows. A recent support slot alongside Moshi Moshi’s ‘Hot Club de Paris’ was one of the recent highs, closely followed by celebrated gigs all over London, Oxford & Midlands.

Blogs from UK and the USA have been talking about these young vagabonds and their music has been gracing the radio waves through keen support from new music legend’s Tom Robinson on 6 Music & John Kennedy on XFM. Further spins and sessions from Amazing Radio along with BBC Oxford naming ‘My Grey Horse’ their band of the month, the merry five have set out on their path.

Since signing with CRC Music Group earlier in 2011, My Grey Horse have been cutting their gigging heels relentlessly, playing scores of gigs and festivals up and down the UK, all the while penning the tracks for their debut record with CRC, ‘The Marley Banks' EP’. With their layered harmonies, swirling surf guitars and sweeping melodies, the band are not easily slotted into conventional rock music categories. Maybe the casually drawn comparisons to Weezer, Super Furry Animals, Brian Wilson and Friendly Fires make sense then. To understand, none sum up better than in the brilliant ‘Let Me Know (About The Waves)’ the lead track from the EP. Supported by the rolling grooves of ‘Waste of Air’ and ‘About Time’ and ‘The Marley Banks EP’ is brought to a close by the sleeping giant of ‘You’ll Never Learn’…the first of many to come from the prolific quintet.
