Calexico And Iron & Wine

In The Reins

Iron & Wine's Sam Beam and the members of Calexico convened in December 2004 at Calexico's home base of Wavelab Studios in Tucson, Arizona. The idea of working together had been tossed around for over three years, though neither bands' schedule loaned itself into making it a reality until then. The resulting session "In the Reins", is a mini-album that is a truly harmonious affair sure to satisfy fans of both bands. The seven tracks are Sam Beam originals and were fleshed out by the full Calexico band. The record also features newcomer Natalie Wyants on vocals, Salvador Duran, a local fixture of the Tucson Flamenco scene, on vocals and Botas. Of course no Wavelab experience would be complete without the appearance of Nick Luca (NL Trio/John Doe Band) and Craig Schumacher, both of whom contributed to the record in the form of engineering and performance.

Cat Power

Jukebox

Cat Power returns with "Jukebox", her second album of cover songs and a tribute to the great vocalists who have influenced her over the years. Recorded in Dallas, Memphis and Miami with Stu Sikes (who also worked on Loretta Lynn's Grammy-winning "Van Lear Rose"), it contains twelve tracks, eleven of which are covers and one, "Song To Bobby", is brand new and a suitable inclusion as she wrote it about meeting Bob Dylan for the first time (it also precedes her version of "I Believe In You" on this record). This is the first record she has made with her band Dirty Delta Blues – the quartet of Dirty Three's Jim White, Delta 72's Gregg Foreman, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's Judah Bauer and Lizard Music's Erik Paparozzi – and they make up a big part of this album. Also making guest appearances on the record are Spooner Oldham (Neil Young, Janis Joplin), Larry McDonald (Toots & The Maytails, Taj Mahal), Teenie Hodges (Al Green, Memphis Rhythm Band) and Matt Sweeney (Chavez). Time Out once wrote that Cat Power was 'a master of interpretation' and "Jukebox" highlights just that. Although her second album of covers, it's not really the sequel to "The Covers Record" (2000), instead a fascinating new chapter in Chan Marshall's artistic arc.

Foreign Born

Person To Person

A band willing to keep their pallet open to almost any influence – Hi-Life guitars, countered with New Wave wash, from U2 to The Feelies. It could be Phil Spector's mid-70s lost recordings inspired by the depth of second-line drum bands from New Orleans; an album filled with anthems.

Gregory And The Hawk

Leche

Gregory And The Hawk returns with her second FatCat album ‘Leche’, a more mature and honest collection of songs than her previous releases, which sees her expanding instrumentally onto piano and harp yet conveying a sense of her bedroom recording roots.

Contributors include Jeremy Backofen (Felice Brothers), Rob Laakso (Amazing Baby, Diamond Nights, Mice Parade, Swirlies), and Adam Pierce (Mice Parade, Swirlies).

Solex Vs Cristina Martinez & Jon Spencer

Amsterdam Throwdown, King Street Showdown

First collaboration between DJ-musician-composer, Elisabeth Esselink and the husband and wife team of Jon Spencer (of avant-punksters Pussy Galore, Boss Hog, Heavy Trash and head honcho of Blues Explosion) and Cristina Martinez, Boss Hog frontwoman. They met after Esselink DJ’ed at a gig supporting the Blues Explosion.
· The trio immediately recorded at Esselink’s studio beneath her indie record shop in Amsterdam, and also in New York and mailed tracks between the two as they added and edited on the way. The resultant album mixes and matches the best of both their approaches, tough, eclectic, explosive, retro and yet also at the cutting edge of 21st century dance music.

The Primitives

Everything's Shining Bright - The Lazy Recordings 1985-1987

Compiled with guitarist PJ Court, this 2-CD compilation boasts re-mastered music as well as a beautifully annotated booklet boasting rare photos and personal memories from the band.

Back in the mid-80s, The Primitives combined the fuzz guitars of The Jesus & Mary Chain with the pop sensibilities of Blondie and a nod to cult heroes The Velvet Underground. They swiftly rose from being a popular Indie guitar outfit to charting worldwide with “Crash”, kickstarting a craze in bands fronted by blonde female singers (Transvision Vamp, The Darling Buds et al).

Between 1985 and 1987, the band issued five singles/EP’s on independent label Lazy Records (also home to My Bloody Valentine and later Birdland) before signing with RCA.

This 2-CD set also boasts their promo-only live album at the ICA; as such, it offers their entire Lazy output from that period.

The London Dirthole Company

Modern Ist EP

The giant avalanche that is THE LONDON DIRTHOLE COMPANY is back with another slab of prime-time partisan punk noise. With a Futurist disdain and Dadaist sense of sardonic humour, the MODERN IST EP celebrates the realities of the Family Of Noise as a truly interactive social experiment. The genuinely odd bunch of protagonists that make up the bands personnel stretch the boundaries of conventional group structure and methods. A truly outsider approach that reverberates with its nebulous intensity and spirit of joy. The result is a fractious cacophony created (on this record) by four drummers, 3 guitarists a bass player and 2 different vocalists. Live the band rotate up to a dozen singers if occasion and availability conspire. The music has elements and attitudes in common with The Monks, Velvet Underground, Pussy Galore and The Fall without any direct plagiarism or imitation. These bands are but ships in the night to the Battleship Dirthole and its crew of desperate fellows. PROFESSOR THE CONFESSOR is an intimate memoir of utterances from the dark recesses of The Professor’s mind. CRYING ONIONS is a sleazy ballad of all-consuming pleasure, timeless romance, sensual purgatory, erotic possession, empty tears, disrobing and eating an onion. TOMORROW, TODAY faces up to the bleak realities of a passion consumed and the vagaries of the staring up from the gutter as you watch your former partner dance the same dance you fell for with someone else. The strapping fit and healthy London Dirthole Company pedigree on this recording; The Nuns, Pulkas, Echobelly, Headbutt, Felix Moment Power Trio, Lot Lizards, Project Dark, Headcleaner.

The Twang

Neontwang

‘NEONTWANG’ was recorded in London at Rory Attwell’s Lightship95 with the Warm Brains man on production duties, a combination that has delivered the band’s strongest set of songs to date.

‘NEONTWANG’ also marks the full debut of new member Jon ‘Simmo’ Simkins as a full writing member of The Twang. Simmo was also the brains behind the video for album track ‘The Wobble’ which premiered on The Fly’s website in October who described it as ‘resembling Ariel Pink doing Tears For Fears’.

‘NEONTWANG’ marks an important moment for the band. Their fourth album, lead singer Phil Etheridge described making it as ‘easily the most fun we've had in the studio since before the band got a record deal’. Having lived through (and survived) the slings and arrows of (much) outrageous fortune, the band have found a space where they are back to the core values that have kept them together as a writing unit for over a decade.

‘NEONTWANG’ comprises a series of recordings that encompass light touch balladry, dub, trip hop and sunshine pop. That early leak of ‘The Wobble’ from the album points the way, a track that veers from delicate melody to overdriven industrial noise, it is the perfect pointer for an album that cares only for its own quality. Those who know their music may also note the echo of club culture, a constant driver for the band, in album closer ‘Bywyd Da’, with its reference to Inner City’s club classic ‘Good Life’. Welsh speakers (or users of Google translate) will get the joke.

Running

Wake Up Applauding

Running elbows in quick from the City of the Big Shoulders with Wake Up Applauding. Delivered loudly, dripping in unintelligible menace with the occasional flash of dark humor, their bathtub mixture of dope-sick guitars claws at your purse, ramming into an unhealthy sense of propulsion and repetition that seems chemical, unreal.

This is villains-plotting-evil kinda punk, mutants in the sewers emerging and wreaking havoc… Mothra shorting out high-voltage power lines and melting, screaming, onto a fleeing populace. Corrosive, driving, repetitive, pissed off, these guys deliver that evil cruisin’ vibe, tight and pushing 100 but with just a rotted off stump of a hand grossing everyone out and shifting gears.

Burnier & Cartier

Burnier & Cartier

Mr Bongo keep the hits coming with a welcome reissue of Burnier & Cartier's self-titled LP, which has soared to the top of many a wantlist after appearing in many a setlist and sample-jam. A gorgeous set which touches on MPB, soul, jazz, disco and boogie, the LP has been championed by the likes of Jazzanova, Floating Points and Hunnee while Andres and KDJ and Kaytranada have all slammed it into the MPC and made good use of these exquisiste grooves. The perfect marriage of breezy South American rhythms, sunkissed melodies and smooth vocals, the album is a testament to the songwriting talents of the duo and the production and arrangement expertise of Arthur Verocai and Luis Bonfa.
Remastered for 2018 and presented in replica artwork, this Brazilian fusion gem is finally available without securing a second mortgage.

Pleased As Punch hits release number five and again serves up disco that does feel, rightly, very pleased with itself. The vibes are high here with Ross Whisper's 'Think' riding strident drums and funky bass licks all the way to the stars. On the flip, MYOB serves up the driving disco-house of 'Mind Your Own Business' with swirling pads and a Stardust adjacent filter house touch. Capri closes this most useful of 12"s with 'Black Gold,' which lays up drums and percussion, blasts of white noise, fun melodies and Neo-disco textures into something designed to amp up the floor.

Twilite Tone

Love & Jack

Star Creature deliver their most intriging curveball yet, slowing the BPMs and removing themselves entirely from any solely-club-focussed confines. Exploring two bona fide Chicago house classics ("Promised Land" and "Jack Your BodY"  through a smudged, downtempo lens; Twilite Tone reinterprets the material with quaaludian breaks, bashed analogue synthesizers and, what sounds to me, like some skilled MPC voodoo. Bloody brilliant. Also - Star Creature has stated that this is a one time press so just 300 copies for the world. Get them skates on folks...

Don Rendell And Ian Carr Quintet

The Complete Lansdowne Recordings, 1965-1969

After an epic licensing odyssey that's taken us almost 20 years, we're finally able to announce the 5LP boxset release of the first ever official re-issue of all five of the iconic Lansdowne recording sessions by the legendary UK jazz combo, the Don Rendell/Ian Carr Quintet.
The five albums; Shades Of Blues (1965), Dusk Fire (1966), Phase III (1968), Change Is (1969) and Live (1969), have reached almost mythical status in the collector's world. Regarded as holy grail artefacts for even the seasoned aficionado, the collective second hand market value comes to an astonishing £6000.
Many have tried - and failed - to reissue these albums by legitimate means. However, two decades since our initial approach, Universal Music has gone to great lengths to research their vast archives, and we have finally managed to succeed.
The complete Don Rendell & Ian Carr Lansdowne recording sessions have now undergone a full and unprecedented boxset reissue. We located and acquired the original analogue master tapes from the Universal vaults and created masters at Abbey Road Studios to produce audiophile quality 180g pressings replete with replica artwork - shape, design, and even paper stock. No stone has been left unturned to deliver this absolute labour of love to the highest possible standard! The enclosed booklet contains never before seen photographs, interviews with the remaining living band members and liner notes from BBC Radio 3 presenter and award-winning jazz writer Alyn Shipton.
The band played together for seven years and during this fruitful time they made a plethora of deeply melodic, post-bop British jazz compositions that later on took influences from Indo and more spiritually guided jazz. Produced by the influential Denis Preston and recorded at his Lansdowne Studios in London, the band was primarily made up of saxophonist Don Rendell, trumpeter/composer Ian Carr, and pianist/composer Michael Garrick. This is UK jazz at its absolute finest, and the quality of our box set pays testament to that.

Soweto Soul Orchestra is produced and composed by Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse, whose importance to South-Africa's music scene can hardly be underestimated. Being a formative member of The Beaters, which was later renamed Harari, he toured Africa extensively and even hit the American charts with their "Party" single. After Harari split in 1982, Sipho went solo and scored another hit with "Burn Out", which could be heard in every township, and produced and recorded for Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba among others.

The Soweto Soul Orchestra project boasts a variety of funky tracks, all marked with that jazzy South-African sound. The stand-out tune on this one, for us, is the epic 8 minute long cosmic disco cover of "Hang em High", the original soundtrack for the eponymous classic Western movie.

This 2020 re-issue sees all tracks cut again from the official studio files, ensuring both audio quality and originality.

Originally released on and licensed through Gallo, 1981.

Timothy J. Fairplay

Pathfinder Theme / UFOs Over China

Timothy J Fairplay is back on the label with a 7” single containing two tracks cut from a rock of uranium. “Pathfinder Theme” and “UFO’s Over China” might differ in sound and tempo but are connected by a radiant feeling. The two tracks bathes in a greenish/yellow bright toxic aura.

This plutonium charged music carries with it some quality elements known from his earlier repertoire like for example a primitive yet crisp beat working as foundation to a few but very exquisite synth sounds.

Timothy J. Fairplay stands on the shoulders of past Italian masters and the works of John Carpenter but with an accentuated alien feel. Something otherworldly, maybe good, maybe harmful, is hidden in the vibe on both sides of this 7”. The balance between good and evil is very even - yin/yang from outer space!

J. Cole

2014 Forest Hills Drive

The idea for this album is centred around Cole's childhood. 2014 Forest Hills Drive is the address of his childhood home in Fayetteville, NC - which he bought back this year - coincidentally also in 2014. The record title celebrates this; and the album tracks centre around various times in his life: growing up, chasing his dreams and fame, and coming full circle to realize none of that matters - and rather family / friends and being able to come home is what counts.

Splitterzelle

Splitterzelle

Departing from the hypnotic, loop-based space-rock jams of their earlier work, the self-titled album from Portuguese/German duo Splitterzelle finds Pedro Pestana (10 000 Russos, Tren Go! Sound System) and Sidney Jaffe (Arcane Allies, Burnpilot, Parse, Ornamental) taking a much more produced approach driven primarily by drum machine and synths. Pounding sub-bass and dark electronic textures are at the forefront here, finding a middle ground between club-ready industrial techno heaviness and droning psychedelic noise. Following their solo projects' collaboration on 2021’s Tren Go! Sound System & Ornamental 'Assessment' LP and a few Portuguese and German tours, Sidney and Pedro soon came to realise a new band was bubbling away and officialised their partnership in 2023 with the emergence of Splitterzelle. Starting out as a guitar and drums duo, their time together and also perhaps the geographical circumstances of living in different countries allowed them the freedom to explore radically different creative approaches between 2024's live session album 'The Drumhard Sessions Vol. 1' and the full-throttle electronics of the the incoming 'Splitterzelle' LP:

"Out of several recording sessions came the collaborative Drumhard Sessions Vol. 1 and this self-titled LP. However, both of these couldn't be more further apart in approach. Where DHSV1 was performed and recorded live in the studio with no overdubs, the S/T LP is the exact opposite with overproduced layers of sound, sub bass and ear candy all the time. The modus operandi was pretty much to record and jam whenever a possibility arose when we were together on tour and then work on the material in our separate home studios once we returned."

“We created a holiday inside our heads.”

‘A Deeper Life’, Chaos In The CBD’s debut album over 10 years in the making, is nostalgic for the duo’s nature-filled youth, exploring the magical coastline and lush rainforest of New Zealand. “The title refers to our childhood, which was idyllic,” says Ben. “It was just the sun, the sand, the sea, waterfalls, birds and fish…” The album’s blissful setting is also depicted on the album cover: a painting, by a childhood friend, of the beach where they grew up in Devonport.

‘A Deeper Life’ whirls that profound love of house music and wide-ranging influences – from Brazilian to R&B, ambient to Italo to deep house and downtempo pop – into a serene, cohesive whole with their signature finesse. The result is an international dance sound that feels unmistakably like Chaos and ebbs and flows from the beach party to the club to the afterhours.

On the album they’ve teamed up with a number of US legends and married their vocals with the UK underground: Josh Milan of house pioneers Blaze brings his soulful vocals to the bossa nova beats of ‘I Wanna Tell Somebody,’ a future jazz-dance anthem. Unheralded Chicago house hero and Larry Heard collaborator Lee Pearson Jr. goes deep over ‘More Time’’s broken beat flex. And on ‘Maintaining My Peace’, the brothers have matched veteran house singer-songwriter Stephanie Cooke with UK grime MC Novelist, on a slinky LDN interpretation of LA hip-hop and g-funk.

Also featured on the album are New Zealand jazz artist Nathan Haines, frequent collaborator Isaac Asaeili and more.

By the early 1990s, multidisciplinary thinker, philosopher and mystic Terrence McKenna had found himself to be one of the darlings of the burgeoning rave scene - going on to become one of the most sampled voices in dance music to this day. However, the very high point of Terrence McKenna’s intersection with dance music is undoubtedly Alien Dreamtime - taking place at a 48 hour rave in 1993 San Francisco, a multi-media collaboration of didgeridoo, live video mixing and the sublime, techno-ambient, sonic wizardry of the unimitable Jonah Sharp aka Spacetime Continuum laying the foundation for McKenna to whip the audience into a frenzy as he belts out his musings on eschatology and peering behind the linguistic curtain through the power of the psychedelic experience. For the very first time, the recording of this seminal event is being released on vinyl format to help you tune into the Gaian mind.

The Jazzcodes & Michele Chiavarini / DJ Romain / Hiva / Saison

NFRV 017

The Jazzcodes and Michele Chiavarini kick off this fine survey of contemporary deep house with 'Wolf Dust (Saison Rework)' which draws on jazz-inflected motifs and feeds them into a steady groove with layered keys sitting over a controlled kick pattern. 'Friday' from DJ Romain works in a more direct frame driven by looping piano stabs and clipped drums with diva vocals injecting heat. 'In The Moment' has an air of cool jazz to it with deft horns and spoken word that muse on the great genre while Saison's 'This Is A House Record' sure is that: classic drums and knotted little synths bring a warming vibe for grown-up floors.

Cam Stockman

Warm Welcome - Incl. RTK Tarantino Remix

Cameron Stockman has risen from the Manchester rave scene to become a new school producer that builds on that background with other influences from US West Coast and 00s UK tech house. As such it's no wonder Chris Stussy and Enzo Siragusa have played his jams, or that Burnski has snapped him up for this new EP. 'Warm Welcome' begins with a slithering groove that works its way under your skin with zesty little synth expressions and rasping bass that never quits. 'Give It 2 Dem' heats up with naughty breakbeats and some bass that wouldn't be out of place on a jungle record, but here powering a future tech sound. RTK Tarantino shuts down with some classic neon organ chords and a quicker, throwback garage vibe that gets works. Effective stuff.

Marc Cotterell has been going about his business with great style in recent years. The Plastik People boss leans into the old school soulful house and garage house scenes for his inspiration and updates those foundational samples with plenty of musicality as well as club-ready rhythms. This solo outing kicks off with the impossibly infectious 'Keep Pushing' with its angelic vocal tones and rich piano chords all overflowing with catchy, feel-good vibes. 'If You Still Love Me' has the same irresistibly joyous results, but this time darts about with a touch of US garage swing and some vibrant horns. 'Boogalou' closes with a more knotted, funky bassline. Brilliantly accessible but sophisticated stuff.

Amelia Coburn

Myself And Other Monsters

Renowned for her vivid, gothic-tinged storytelling, Amelia Coburn’s 'Myself and Other Monsters' is a cabinet of curiosities, where the supernatural hides within the domestic and beauty exists alongside the grotesque. Musically, it reaches for dreamlike arrangements and cinematic crescendos, with Bill Ryder-Jones’s production shifting from theatrical brass to melancholic strings and haunting harmonies.

Amelia has a knack for making the unusual sound timeless. Drawing inspiration from gothic literature and the inherent mystery of vintage horror films, there is a darkness at the heart of many of her songs. On 'Myself and Other Monsters', Amelia turns that darkness inward:

“Although the album began with something intensely personal, it is not a straightforwardly autobiographical record. Once I began looking at my own darker impulses, I wanted to examine the “monsters” that exist beyond myself: spectral creatures, morally ambiguous characters, unreliable narrators and the strange ways in which people can become monstrous, or be made to feel monstrous.”

At its core, ‘Myself and Other Monsters’ is an attempt to look unflinchingly at the contradictions within ourselves and the world around us, and to ask the listener where the person ends and the monster begins.

Inspiral Carpets

Burn Like The Sun

Inspiral Carpets' 'Burn Like The Sun' - their first studio album in 12 years. The album marks a major new chapter for Inspiral Carpets following a period shaped by loss, reflection and renewal. An extended hiatus left the future of the band uncertain, and the return to writing and recording became something deeper than simply making another record. What emerged is an album rooted in endurance, connection, and forward motion. At the centre of that story is the return of original frontman Stephen Holt, whose rejoining of the band reconnected Inspiral Carpets with their earliest creative identity while opening the door to an entirely new era. Rather than revisiting the past, the band approached 'Burn Like The Sun' determined to create something fresh, relevant and emotionally honest - a record that acknowledges their history without being defined by it.

Pratt & Moody With Cold Diamond & Mink

Lost Lost Lost

With 'Lost Lost Lost', Pratt & Moody gather the defining moments of their journey and package it with fresh soul gold into one cohesive, slow- burning statement. What began as a series of cult 7” vinyl releases – often mistaken online for forgotten soul classics from another era – now finds its natural home in album form. Written and recorded with Timmion’s trusted house band Cold Diamond & Mink, the record captures the duo’s unmistakable chemistry: emotionally rich songwriting wrapped in warm, analog textures that blur past and present.

From the velvet sway of 'Addictive Touch' to the cinematic tension of 'You Bring Me Joy' and the beat ballad ache of 'Hard Way To Live', the album moves effortlessly between bedroom-soul intimacy and widescreen drama. 'Hang Tight' opens with a blissful piano figure that nods to gospel-tinged 1970s soul before unfolding into a full-bodied groove, while 'Hooked On Your Love' glows with golden-age group soul harmony sweetness. Across both sides, Pratt’s finely tuned vocals and Moody’s expressive guitar work anchor songs that feel timeless rather than nostalgic.

At its core, 'Lost Lost Lost' is an album steeped in atmosphere – lush downtempo moments sit alongside sweet harmony-driven soul, cinematic builds dissolve into dark restrained grooves. Analog string synthesizers, vibraphone accents, tremolo guitar, and deep-pocket rhythms create emotional tension without excess. Pratt & Moody’s strength lies in their melodic instinct: songs that feel big without being pompous or losing their human quality. The result is a record that feels cohesive, immersive, and that real thing – reaffirming the duo as key architects of the contemporary lowrider soul revival.

The Joy Hotel

Consume

'Consume' is the bold, expansive second album from Glasgow’s The Joy Hotel — a record that pushes their already distinctive sound into stranger and more ambitious territory.

Following the critically acclaimed album 'Ceremony', The Joy Hotel returns with an album that embraces contradiction: beautiful and unsettling, intimate and enormous, melodic and chaotic. Across Consume, the Glasgow five-piece weave together psychedelic rock, folk, Americana, indie and experimental textures, underpinned by the trademark vocal harmonies of Luke Boyce and Emme Woods and a cinematic sense of scale.

'Consume' is an album about trying to satiate our appetite for the endless gruel that the internet has to offer. The band strived to capture what it’s like to navigate heartbreak, nostalgia, panic attacks and aspiring to glory while being ground up in the gears of a 21st Century Promised Land; wanting to be more than a pig in a trough, and remain resilient in the face of apathy. The Joy Hotel’s greatest strength remains their ability to make a large ensemble feel completely organic. Multiple voices intertwine with guitars, keys, bass and drums to create music that can shift effortlessly from fragile, intimate passages to huge, euphoric crescendos. There is a sense that anything could happen within these songs, with moments of tenderness sitting alongside bursts of noise, psychedelic colour and unexpected arrangements.

The album also captures what has made The Joy Hotel such an exciting live proposition. Their music is expansive without sacrificing immediacy, with melodies that reward repeat listening and arrangements that reveal new details with every play. The band spent three weeks recording at La Frette Studios outside Paris, approaching the process in a different way to that of their debut album; “we cast off our purist tendencies, building each song from the ground up, ignoring how we made our first record. We wanted to find an entirely fresh approach and to immerse ourselves in creating something that felt like hope in a hellscape.”

Little Grandad

Speak Softly, Son

Produced by Kev Jones (Wunderhorse), ‘Speak Softly, Son’ is the hotly tipped debut album from Little Grandad.

Just a few months after launching their debut tracks, the London four-piece waste no time at all, taking rare, precious days off the road to put down their debut album. The band has made quick work of creating a buzz since forming just over a year ago. Gigging relentlessly and picking up new fans everywhere they play. It’s a story as old as time.

Their songs sound like a sort of Venn diagram of rust-belt Americana, Brooklyn-informed slacker-rock, and warm yet ramshackle British indie guitar rock. It also sounds nothing like those things. It’s chaotic, teeters on the brink of collapse, but somehow hangs together. It’s properly exciting because you can’t put your finger on what it is, and neither can they.

“Speak Softly, Son” is a timely approximation of where Little Grandad are at, and an excellent advertisement for those live shows. Here’s where the story really starts...

Kate Nash

Cailín

Eleven years in the making, Kate Nash’s sixth studio album Cailín is a love letter to her Irish heritage. Produced by KoOoLkOjAk and recorded on the west coast of Ireland at Stiúideo Cuan, under the watchful eye of pioneering trad musician Charlie Lennon, Cailín is a raw, raucous album combining traditional Irish sounds with punk energy, nods to hip hop production and Nash’s knack for a killer hook. “This was my first music,” says Nash, who grew up in an Irish community in North Harrow, where she attended a Catholic school.

When visiting her mother’s “loving, vibrant Irish family” in Ireland every summer, she found that music infused the fabric of life in a way that felt natural and instinctive. “All my earliest musical memories were in Ireland: live music in the pub, going to Sharon Shannon gigs, seeing the best accordion player you’ve ever seen and it’s a bored-looking eight-year-old boy in a puffer jacket. There’s a real respect for musicians.”

Marrying punk protest songs with a joyful celebration of trad music, Cailín explores themes of colonialism, inequality, religion, internalised shame and forgiveness and family, drawing on the rich texture of Irish folklore and mythology. The tradition of strong Irish women is at the heart of the record, from the young girls celebrated on the “90s grunge eyeroll” of title track ‘Cailín’, to the resourceful single mother navigating the housing crisis in ‘Póg Mo Thóin’ (“There’s all these politicians arguing with each other on news programmes, then you cut to people’s real life and it’s like, can’t you just fucking help them?”), to Nash’s grandmother, memorialised in the poignant yet joyful ‘Irish Saints’.

The Twang

Bring Yourself

Making their first album since 2019 wasn’t even on the cards when The Twang first tip-toed back into the studio two years ago. The death of lead songwriter Jon Watkin’s wife, a friendship in freefall and the feeling that their best might be behind them had pushed the Birmingham band to the brink of collapse. Then 'Bring Yourself' arrived. What began as a bridge-building exercise, a way to get four working-class lads to look each other in the eye and be honest, morphed into a manifesto for living in the moment and gave The Twang back their groove. None of them know how it happened. Magic, suggests Jon. That’ll do. Recorded live and produced by Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, M.I.A), It was Ross who gave Bring Yourself its title and its powerful, back-to-basics sound. “Ross had this phrase, ‘Bring thissen’, which became our mantra,” says Phil. “It means be yourself, bring the real you and no other nonsense. Ross is a no-bullshit Northerner, which was exactly what we needed”. Two decades since The Twang’s breakthrough debut album, the gold-selling 'Love It When I Feel Like This', 'Bring Yourself' comes as a celebration - of the gang being back on track, of their new-found respect for each other and of their love of a life they’ve been lucky to lead. And despite their differences, this decade has seen The Twang in great form, playing by far the largest venues of their career, and the Noughties’ indie-rock scene that the band helped spawn is bigger now than it’s ever been.

Fionn Regan

Berlin, Berlin

Fionn Regan’s eighth album, 'Berlin, Berlin', is a stark, intimate and instinctive collection of songs, written and recorded in just five days in East London. Arriving swiftly after the acclaimed O Avalanche, it embraces minimalism, atmosphere and poetic storytelling, unfolding like a half-remembered film glimpsed in the small hours.

From the spectral opening of ‘Hurricane Bruise’ to the nocturnal title track and the warm devotion of closing song ‘Love Blood’, 'Berlin, Berlin' moves through winter light, rain-soaked streets, lost characters and fleeting romance. Raw yet richly cinematic, it feels less constructed than discovered—a record shaped by instinct, intuition and the mysterious pull of the songs themselves. A natural storyteller whose career stretches back to his Mercury Prize shortlisted debut 'The End of History', Regan has created a record that feels timeless and quietly radical: a lost cult classic waiting to be found.

Lambrini Girls

No Refunds

Since their debut, Lambrini Girls have evolved from one of the UK's most incendiary new punk acts into an international touring force, reaching #16 on the Official UK Album Chart. They subsequently performed across the UK, Europe and North America, then taking their explosive live show to festivals worldwide, including Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Roskilde, Rock Werchter and Riot Fest. The girls have become a fixture across the cultural landscape, appearing on covers and features spanning Kerrang!, NME, DIY, Gay Times, Dazed, The Times and Teen Vogue, all while earning major support from BBC Radio 6 Music and key DSP platforms.

‘No Refunds’ confronts a litany of modern horrors, from genocide and fascism to the rise of AI, reproductive rights, and the descent into the grubby basement of the ‘manosphere’, all whilst expanding the sonic world that made Lambrini Girls’ debut so memorable. Industrial punk sits alongside moments of pop-adjacent immediacy, angular basslines and unexpected vulnerability, with the duo pairing their most confrontational material with the dark humour and wit that has become synonymous with the duo.

This Is The Kit

Ghost Coat

The concept of home haunts This Is the Kit’s tender, thoughtful seventh studio album, Ghost Coat. “I was interested in exploring our relationship with home,” says frontwoman Kate Stables. “Where home is, or was, where we come from, where we’re going. Sometimes it’s just where you put your bag down, especially for someone who travels a lot. Maybe it’s less to do with a place, and more who you’re with – people that make you feel like you’re at home.”

Recorded at Rockfield Studios in the Wye Valley, south-east Wales, and the first to be self-produced Ghost Coat captures the feeling that, no matter where we are in the world, homesickness can strike at any moment. “Quite often, if I find myself in a new place,” says Stables, “I’ll be really happy to be there, but then I always miss somewhere else which is tugging me away.”

Conversely friendship and community are at the heart of the record, manifesting itself with the voices and contributions of collaborators including Richard Dawson Sam Amidon, guitarist brothers Valentin and Marceau Portron (of Portron Portron Lopez), Ben Howard and Emma Broughton AKA Blumi.

“I was really keen to not only ask people to sing on the album,” says Stables, “but to make sure that you can hear their individual voices. When you hear the voice of someone that means a lot to you, it can destroy you (in a good way) or can make you feel amazing. It makes me happy hearing all the voices, especially because of the themes of friendship.”

The ghostly garment of the title was inspired by a shadow cast by the staircase in Stables’s new home: the phrase appeared in her head and has been echoing around it ever since, like echolalia. “Ghost coat” could refer to “a layer, a garment, a disguise, a memory” – a mysterious presence that guides and watches over us, though its intentions are unknown.

This sense of grace is one of the throughlines of the album: finding peace in the way things have turned out, even if it isn’t what we had planned, and accepting the situations we find ourselves in. It all comes back to the concept of home, and in particular the people we call home. “I hope listeners come away with a sense of shared experience,” says Stables. “I’m someone who is prone to disappearing into a sort of burrow, and it’s hard to know how to get out of the burrow. It’s important that we continue to interact with each other. It’s all about feeling a sense of community with other human beings out there.”

Suckaside / LROY

Pacific Life / Only Dub Can Break Your Heart

The SuckaSide duo have tagged in label regular LROY once more for another irresistible blend of classics on this crucial new 7". 'Pacific Life' kicks off with a laid-back, deep and elastic fusion of a house classic and a rave staple, reimagining both as blissed-out warmth with instantly recognisable vocals and loon bird samples. On the flip, the beats become even slower and more swaggy, with sunny chords lighting them up and real Caribbean heat fusing with elephantine bass. These tunes are high-level blends that are playful and immediately effective but never cheap or obvious.

Shed Seven

Shed Seven

Shed Seven return with their seventh studio album and, appropriately, have chosen to make it self-titled. Arriving after without question the most successful periods in the band's history, Shed Seven follows the remarkable achievement of scoring two UK Number One albums in 2024 - a feat matched by only a handful of artists including The Beatles, Elton John and Led Zeppelin. More than 30 years after they first emerged from York, the band find themselves enjoying a creative and commercial resurgence few could have predicted.

Rather than looking backwards, Shed Seven is a record focused firmly on the present. Written and recorded with renewed confidence and purpose, it captures a band continuing to push themselves while staying true to the qualities that have earned them such a loyal following over the years.

The album is introduced by lead single 'Stand Together', a song that sets the tone for what follows. As Rick explains, it is “a call to arms and a rallying cry for some kind of unity in the world we live in today.”

For a band that has already enjoyed a career most artists could only dream of, Shed Seven feels less like a victory lap and more like the start of another chapter. Self-titled, ambitious and full of belief, it stands as a statement of where Shed Seven are today… and where they are heading next.

Regina Collage

Horizont

Moving between lo-fi experimental songwriting, sparse post-punk textures and intimate recordings; Ukrainian artist Regina Collage’s new album ‘Horizont’ is a personal and honest document of rebuilding a life and creative voice in Bristol. The record holds space for themes of burnout, quiet shame, tenderness and the courage of staying emotionally open when the world feels unstable.

Sung entirely in Ukrainian, ‘Horizont’ does not ask the listener to understand every word. Feeling carries the songs forward. Across bedroom recordings and borrowed studios, Regina moves between cloudy dissonance and stark minimal arrangements built around bass, fragments of guitar, and an exposed voice. The recordings hold onto their rough edges. Mistakes remain and imperfection becomes part of the story.

“Music for me is about not being scared to be vulnerable,” Regina says. “Almost every song I have is about what it means to be open and emotional. I really do not think it is a weakness. I hope people can listen and feel welcome to take a break and just let their emotions exist.”

The album takes its name from the Ukrainian word for “horizon,” that unreachable line where sky meets earth. For Regina, the horizon became a quiet metaphor for living with distance and uncertainty. Inspired by one of her collage artworks showing a figure lying in grass and staring toward that far line, the title track reflects a feeling of moving toward something that never quite comes closer. Even without understanding the lyrics, the song carries a slow sense of longing and suspended arrival.

‘Vpiznavaty’, by contrast, initially feels almost light. Beneath that surface is a candid portrait of burnout and depressive exhaustion. The song looks at those moments when even greeting friends feels overwhelming. It captures the quiet embarrassment of withdrawing from people you care about, and the slow recognition that sometimes stepping away is simply how you survive.

Other songs reveal different sides of the same emotional landscape. ‘Weak’ strips everything back to bass, a hint of guitar, and a bare vocal. Written and recorded in a single instinctive session, the track circles around the idea that softness might be its own kind of strength. Repetitive and intentionally unpolished, it quietly sets the tone for the whole record.

Running through ‘Horizont’ is the reality of Regina’s life between Ukraine and the UK. Her hometown Kharkiv continues to face attacks, and many of her friends remain on the front line.

“It is important for me to speak about Ukraine and remind people that the war has not ended,” Regina says. “Some of my friends are fighting and some are still making music. They were musicians before the invasion and everything changed for them. My hometown Kharkiv is under constant attack. My parents are there. Even if it is not always in the news, it is happening every day. I also want to represent our underground music culture. I love the music from Ukraine and the people making it.”

Regina recently collaborated with Valentina Magalletti for a three day residency at Café OTO, supported AD93’s Ben Vince, and is working with Susumu “Zongamin” Mukai. The album is released by Do You Have Peace?, the local Bristol label run by Amos Childs of Jabu, O$VMV$M and Young Echo. Bristol has also shaped the album in unexpected ways, with Regina finding herself welcomed into a musical community she had long admired.

“I always loved Bristol’s music scene, especially Beak>, who have been my favorite band for a long time,” she says. “I also spent time at Invada studio, where I worked on some of the album. It is a beautiful story when something you admire suddenly becomes part of your life.”

That sense of fragile connection runs through ‘Horizont’. The album does not attempt to polish away uncertainty or sadness. Instead it sits quietly with those feelings and lets them breathe. In Regina College's world, vulnerability is not something to fix. It is proof that we are still here, still feeling, still human.

CHAINSAW MAN THE MOVIE: REZE ARC Original Soundtrack - Summer's End

That one summer that felt like everything… until it wasn’t. The rain-soaked phone booth, the pool, the fireworks, the moments where it almost felt real. kensuke ushio’s summer’s end score lives right in that space between tenderness and collapse, where quiet love turns into chaos in an instant.

Cabaret Voltaire

CODE - 2026 Remaster

Sheffield electronic pioneers Cabaret Voltaire's most commercially successful album, 'CODE', is back, and long overdue after years out of print.

Released in 1987, the eighth studio album from the band has been remastered from the original tapes by Denis Blackham, who has mastered or remastered every Cabaret Voltaire album for over 20 years, and is released on Mute, restoring the original artwork. Co-produced with dub mastermind Adrian Sherwood, it marked a bold shift toward synth-pop and mechanistic funk, the last Cabaret Voltaire album made with a major budget while remaining defiantly credible, featuring charting singles 'Don't Argue' and 'Here to Go'.

The album's title speaks to a preoccupation that felt urgent at the time and has only grown more resonant since: the creeping integration of technology, computers and programming into every corner of human life. For Cabaret Voltaire, 'CODE' meant control, not just in regards to music-making, but also in terms of social and economic control against a backdrop of excess.

Recorded at the band's own Western Works studio in Sheffield, with Sherwood joining for pre-production before the sessions moved to Red Bus in London to mix, the album captures a band at the height of their commercial and creative powers. This reissue was begun in 2019 with Richard H. Kirk, before his untimely death and completed using his notes, in consultation with Stephen Malinder and Richard's estate, a fitting tribute to his legacy.

Erykah Badu & The Alchemist

Before The World Blows

In the eleven years since her last project, Erykah Badu has gathered not conclusions but a series of existential insights. 'Before the World Blows': The Abi and Alan Experiment exists within the tension between introspection and growth. Abi is Badu. Alan is The Alchemist. Recorded over 18 months in Dallas and Los Angeles, the album is the inevitable collision of two iconoclasts—hypnotic, funny, blunt, deeply personal, and impossible to categorize neatly.

Meditative and fluid, 'Before the World Blows' finds Badu contemplating which parts of ourselves and our stories are worth protecting before the world breaks and fragments. Love, innocence, dreams, memories, womanhood. The album unfolds in four movements, charting the progression of self through the prisms of love, art, and identity, inviting us to sit with difficult feelings. Passion blurs with desire, hope with grief, each song revealing another illuminating facet of the inner Baduverse.

The Abi and Alan Experiment began more than three years ago after Badu told her longtime creative partner Cold Cris that she had always wanted to rap over Mobb Deep’s 'The Realest', a gritty, pounding Alchemist production. “I also program as well, but not like Al,” she says. “His collection of music is impeccable. His taste is brilliant. His choices are kindred to what I love. He’s very soulful.” Their conversations grew into a full-fledged collaborative project. The duo’s first studio session together in Los Angeles yielded the crackling ballad 'Next to You', which uses the same sped-up ’70s soul sample as 'The Realest', establishing the album’s creative language: Alchemist’s sample-based architecture meeting Badu’s gift for rhythmic, jazz-informed experimentation. Rather than typecasting Badu, his dream collaborator, with beats that matched her existing catalog the music was guided by Badu’s instincts & skill, and the Alchemist let the music evolve on its own terms.

Alchemist sent Badu a collection of instrumental beats, which she deconstructed and sculpted into tracks that felt uniquely hers, looping his warm, punchy samples with instruments from soft kalimba notes to immersive chords and drums. The result moves fluidly between soul, blues, funk, rock, jazz, and underground hip-hop, yet belongs entirely to none of them. From 2024 to 2025, Abi and Alan road-tested the entire album live, performing in intimate, phone-free settings with Badu’s digital collective, The Cannabinoids, and Alchemist on the MPC, fine-tuning the tracks along the way.

Badu has always seen art as an inevitable, infinite extension of the self. At any point in space and time, that means evolution is inevitable, too. Before the world blows, it’s worth it to keep exploring. To have one more kiss. One more hit of that blunt. Before the world blows, it’s worth it to get to know thyself.

Otis Mensah

Come Beautify The Night

'Come Beautify The Night' by interdisciplinary artist and musician Otis Mensah combines avant-garde musical-form with traditional elements of rap-flow & cadence, reflecting on the body as landscape across seven movements. The album marks a seminal evolution as Otis' compositional debut, with an abstractionist approach to sound and form that obscures the borders between self and place. Beginning inception in the North of England and drawing to a close in Berlin, the colliding dark / light textures and tonal shifts of 'Come Beautify The Night' inhabit the nature of transition and the rewriting home - teetering between rurality to metropolarity.

The album unfolds with Otis leading on piano and voice, breaking into untamed, nonlinear jazz-signatures that erode its seemingly classical form, the album remains in constant pursuit of autonomy. The seven tracks move through dusk, dawn, and nightfall, representing the body's liminal journey in dislocation, to chosen kinship/belonging, and collective resistance. Each song begins with piano & evolves into grand textured soundscapes and improvisational dialogue with a vast array of musicians and artists from Georgia Anne Muldrow to LIE NING.

The "Night" refers to that which is subdued and erased whilst the act of "beautifying" exists as a ritual of resistance. The adornment of one's self, the queering of gender, and the encryption of written and spoken language present themselves as oppositional modes of fierce defiance when one's identity and sense of home are at stake.

Victoryland

My Heart Is A Room With No Cameras In It (Deluxe)

Victoryland is the Brooklyn-based project of musician Julian McCamman and Dan Howard.. Their 2026 album, 'My Heart Is A Room With No Cameras In It', is a triumphant, despondent, and ultimately fun experimental pop-rock album. A year on, the record receives the deluxe treatment from new label home Dead Oceans complete with new song 'The Ugliest Girl On The Beach'.

The sound of the album, recorded between Julian’s Bed-Stuy basement and Dan’s Williamsburg studio, is that of a bright and beaming collaboration. Blending lo-fi and hi-fi production, the songs have the glossiness of a radio-friendly hit mixed with the distortion and rough edges of a home demo. Every song keeps at least one element of the initial recording, while building around the loops and half-songs Julian scraped together. The lyrics on the record span from humorous self-aware popisms (“‘you and I’ will soon be, used to be ‘us’”) to crushing realities of bitterness (“i’ll never forgive you, that’s how I keep you close”) and abstract imagery (“mothers wave from doorways, in ostinato”), all delivered with such an immediacy and fervor that in the middle of singing along, you wonder if this guy slept much last night. Much to their surprise, 'My Heart...’s release ushered Victoryland into a whirlwind of a year. Pitchfork praised the album’s “bright, madcap approach reminiscent of the New Pornographers’ Twin Cinema or Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s Some Loud Thunder.” Stereogum named it their Album of the Week and proclaimed it “a surprisingly cohesive scrapbook of sounds from seemingly every corner of the indie pop umbrella.” The album also received support from Steve Lamacq at BBC 6 Music and Sian Eleri at Radio 1. After a string of sold-out shows in NYC, Victoryland later joined LCD Soundsystem on their North American tour and performed at Pitchfork London, Pitchfork Paris, among other festivals across Europe

Mermaid Avenue - 2026 Reissue

The 'Mermaid Avenue' series is one of the most successful and unusual folk-rock collaborations of the last few decades. At its core, the project took previously unpublished Woody Guthrie lyrics and set them to entirely new music composed and performed by Billy Bragg and Wilco. Celebrated for honoring Guthrie's spirit while creating something entirely new, the 'Mermaid Avenue' recordings remain a landmark achievement in folk and Americana music.

The first volume is generally considered the centerpiece of the series. It blends Bragg's folk and political sensibilities with Wilco's emerging alt-country sound. Songs like 'California Stars', 'Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key', and 'Ingrid Bergman' became modern folk standards. The album earned a GRAMMY nomination and received widespread critical acclaim.

20 Dolla Julio

DJ Homicide Presents

20 Dolla Julio keeps his identity a mystery but there are no secrets about what music gets him going. He's a master of classic hip-hop joints mixed, blended, diced, cut and stitched together into electric new grooves that bear all the hallmarks of the original but with ester club clout. First up is 'Still', a Weast Coast classic that has the same bleeping melodies and trademark bars but with a tight, bumping broken beat down low. 'Overnight Celeb' then marries pitched-up vocal intensity with smoother bars, bright harmonica and plenty of classic swing. Two top-tier weapons.

TRACK LISTING

Overnight Celeb

Kyiv-based Seba Korecky plays across the house, disco and tech spectrum at his Vertuha party and on his Vertuha Records, and he doesn't waste any time announcing his skills on this one. 'Give Me Your Love' opens with real peak-time urgency that is all driving energy before 'Down On Strings' pulls things into lush string-led territory built for those hands-up moments. The B-side flips funkier with 'Funk Is Near,' horns and bassline doing all the heavy lifting, and closes with a fresh rework of 'I Will Survive,' which is no small feat given how often that one's been touched.

Matt Berninger

Type It Up

Matt Berninger, the singular voice at the center of The National new EP 'Type It Up', releasing via Book/Concord Records. The collection brings together three new original songs alongside two previously released covers, with the vinyl edition featuring a bonus acoustic live recording.

This release follows Berninger's critically lauded second solo album, 'Get Sunk', released last year via Book/Concord Records.

'Type It Up’s tracklist moves through tones both personal and expansive — from the unforgettable EP opener 'Martini Me Fatso' that was released earlier this summer to the title track's searching quality, before arriving at the stillness of 'Ask For Water'. The EP also features Berninger's rendition of New Order's iconic 'Blue Monday', previously released as an Amazon Music Original track, and a cover of Velvet Underground's 'Who Loves the Sun' with Rosanne Cash, as featured on the Australian television show Sunny Nights.

“These songs came out of the momentum and energy of the 'Get Sunk' tour,” Berninger shares. “I was changing lyrics and forms night after night, and we were getting real time feedback from audiences and social media comments. On the song ‘Type It Up’ (originally titled ‘Black Letter Font’), people were mishearing the lyric, ‘That would look good in a black letter font’ as ‘I would look good in a black leather thong,’ so I decided to swap the chorus. I’m more of a black linen suit guy.”

Morphine

Cocoon

At the height of grunge, Morphine sounded like nobody else. The Boston trio built their own strange, seductive musical language (coined "low rock" by frontman Mark Sandman), built around Sandman's two-string slide bass and unmistakable voice, Dana Colley’s baritone & tenor saxophone, and stripped-back drums (Jerome Deupree, Billy Conway). Morphine became one of the defining cult bands of the ’90s, but their story came to an abrupt end in 1999, when Sandman suffered a fatal heart attack on stage during a concert in Italy.

More than 25 years later, 'Cocoon' offers an extraordinary final chapter. Its eight songs were recorded during Morphine’s late-’90s sessions before Sandman ultimately shelved the material on the path toward what would become their final album. Rediscovered in the band’s archives decades later, Sandman’s life partner and Morphine estate manager Sabine Hrechdakian and producer Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Pixies) transferred the original tapes and carefully assembled this unified collection of Morphine songs. Dana Colley returned to add new saxophone parts, and Kolderie then brought new mixes to the table. Rather than a collection of demos or outtakes, 'Cocoon' is a fully realized Morphine album revealing a band still pushing forward that somehow waited nearly three decades to find its way into the world.

Mark Ambrose has been a serious house head since the 1980s and has always brought his own flavours to the original Chicago and Detroit sound. He heads up the Crayon label, which is where much of his music comes from, including this latest deep dive into groove. 'I Want You' (feat Talia) kicks off with a meandering lead synth that comforts over a warm bed of drums as a sultry vocal whisper brings some intimacy. 'Rumble Jazz' then rocks back and forth a little more with swaggering attitude and hints of darkness and 'Monica Dancing With Angels' is a smooth cruiser with a far-sighted melodic edge. 'On A Dream' brings a sultry jazz flourish with some sombre trumpets lingering above classic deep house drums and bass that take you way back.

'Church & Raves' is a great title for an EP given the strange relationship between the two. You're unlikely to get many people in the UK who go to both, but at the same time the communion of a good dance is often likened to the joys of collective experience that people feel in their chosen place of worship. Jazz pianist, organist, composer and bandleader Jonny Liebeck brings together a background in both here: 'Dancefloor Motive' and 'In My Feels' run jungle's rhythmic urgency through a jazz sensibility and breakbeats are given real harmonic depth rather than just serving as a backbone. 'Underground Soul' and 'Modal House' lean closer to classic house but with those Latin jazz touches from his debut still lingering in the margins. A thoughtful, well-crafted EP for anyone who wants their music with real substance.

Queen

Innuendo - 2026 Repress

As we entered the 1990s, Queen recorded 'Innuendo' which would be the last album that Freddie Mercury would complete. It is widely considered to contain some of the most powerful and emotive vocal performances he ever recorded. Extraordinary, emotional and deeply personal, the album was universally acclaimed and became a firm fan favourite, topping charts across Europe with key tracks ‘The Show Must Go On’, ‘Don’t Try So Hard’, and ‘These Are The Days Of Our Lives’.

The Fratellis

Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied - 2026 Repress

The Fratellis critically acclaimed fourth studio album, 'Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied', is now available for the first time on limited sunburst vinyl. After the release of 2013’s ‘We Need Medicine’, the band spent a year touring the world. At the tail end of 2014, they decamped to LA to work on album number four with Tony Hoffer (M83, Depeche Mode and Belle & Sebastian), who also produced their first album smash ‘Costello Music’. That unique, bright clarity of California sunshine seems to permeate the record and the band channelled it to create an album that represents what they do best. At the heart of ‘Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied’ there’s a fun, energetic soul reminiscent of their 2006 debut. With recognisable nods to 70s Cali-rock, rockabilly and glorious hints of Americana and country layered high, it’s a glorious homecoming with roots in both Scotland and LA. Littered with standout tracks; The foot stamping ‘Baby Don’t You Lie To Me!’, The spiralling riffs of ‘Getting Surreal’ and ‘Thief’ all big choruses and live crowd pleasers. ‘Dogtown’ parades along with its strident brass section and funk-driven bass line it’s early seventies Stevie Wonder covering The Beatles’ ‘Come Together’. While the delicate, drifting layers of ‘Moonshine’ bring us to a reflective, poised ending.

Boris With Michio Kurihara

Rainbow - 20th Anniversary Edition

First issued in 2006, 'Rainbow' marked the maiden voyage of notorious headbangers Boris and Michio Kurihara, famed lead guitarist of Ghost and White Heaven. Performed together with fantastic harmony, 'Rainbow' is not just a perfect combination; it is a meeting place, with all players aligned in a singular cause—to make an album whose music elevates the listener.

Twenty years later, Drag CIty are psyched as the dosed punch to do our very own vinyl edition, right on time for the album’s 20th anniversary vinyl. The jacket’s done up in classic Boris style—a Stoughton 12" Single Tip-on with special uncoated natural white paper, Holographic foil stamping, and custom front sticker, with lyrics reproduced on an insert of translucent vellum.

For such a formidable combine of noise-making rock ‘n rollers, 'Rainbow’s negative spaces provide as much definition as their distorted guitars. Boris’ trio are all avid experimentalists. Kurihara’s guitar goes from whisper to scream effortlessly, applying a distinctive tattoo to the musical flesh of their collaboration.

Make no mistake: 'Rainbow' does not lack for speaker-shredding intensity. Opening with the power of 'Rafflesia', 'Rainbow' paces itself with short pop songs providing interludes among extended expeditions. A glockenspiel glimmers in the distance, Takeshi and Wata trade vocals, muted beauty is rocked open with droning, tom-pounding jams. A prism of sound colors shifts gracefully, giving the album its proper name.

'Rainbow’s a heavy rock album with classic melodic aims captured at an apex of hi-fi stereo recording. Boris arrays their rock elegantly, with great care and vigor, and Kurihara’s carefully contoured guitar tones accompany them with great sensitivity, whether playing Mesozoan stomps, serrated riffs or floating meditations.

Boris With Michio Kurihara

Live At FEVER 20181229

Boris and Michio Kurihara collaborated for the first time from 2006-2008, releasing the albums 'Rainbow' and 'Cloud Chamber'. Ten years after (the years, not the band!) they got back together to play a show at FEVER in Tokyo. It was December 29th, 2018.

They ran through almost all their Rainbow songs with three additional Boris pieces and two from Kurihara. And so many missed it! Maybe even you? Now, international fans can be glad they’ve lived this long, if only because now they can get the whole show in a fantastic sounding two-LP package. How fantastic? The jacket: exquisite paper with pearl foil embossment lettering, a gate- fold with photos of the band and who knows, possibly the sky from the night of the show? The credits are inscribed on an inserted sheet of translucent vellum. REALLY fantastic!

With pristine live sound and effects from Soichiro Nakamura, longtime producer and former bandmate of Kurihara in Japan’s legendary psychedelic White Heaven, 'Live at FEVER 20181229' highlights selections from a heavy rock show focused on the 'Rainbow' songs, with even more Boris material, Kurihara solo songs and covers.

On that night eight years ago, Boris & Kurihara sound entirely ready to go all the places they need to go, employing easy power in a freewheeling yet practiced recital, visceral and granular as a matter of course. It’s simply what plugging in means to both artists, individually and collectively, to sound this awesome every time. This means the stage sound, recording, mix and pressing of 'Live at FEVER 20181229' are incredible! The band sounds massive AND pristine. Even without hearing much from the audience, you feel the sound of the room and the band charged by the presence of the audience. The feeling is alive.

Boris’ unique power trio have established dominance over the decades, in full evidence here. Kurihara’s moody brilliance comes through in full spectrum on 'Shine' and 'The Wind’s Twelve Quarters', but everywhere he can be heard and felt. He’s behind the boomeranging dynamic shifts on side 3, snapping the head from the surging 'Starship Narrator' to long moments of near silence at the start of 'My Rain', an extended elegance followed by the funky psych of 'Sweet No. 1'. These studied textures form a polar other to the rock. The chime and grime of Kurihara’s tone adds a magic spell to the sound.

The album’s well titled. It easily could have been Rainbow Live. Instead, a shuffling of the album order less one or two PLUS the addition of Boris and Kurihara songs make 'Live at FEVER 20181229' its own album experience. Just hearing the sound of a live experience distilled to the vinyl seems awesome and emotional. Imagine the raw wave!

Timbila Ta Venancio

Ecos Do Legado: Chopi Timbila Music From Southern Mozambique

The Chopi Timbila is one of Africa's great orchestral traditions. The tradition lives in Zavala, Mozambique, and continually references Chopi ancestors. Their mwenje wood xylophones are tuned in seven equidistant pitches giving them a microtonal quality starkly different from the tempered scale (European classical music, the Beatles, etc). From enormous sub-bass behemoths to higher-pitched, sometimes shoulder-strapped instruments, there are five types of xylophones in the orchestra. They anchor a defined musical structure rooted in rural life and a strong sense of community. The ensembles consist of varying ages and skill levels (beginners through masters) and new song cycles are composed and performed each year. In 2008 UNESCO listed it as Intangible Cultural Heritage and people across Mozambique recognize it as one of the most complex and beautiful forms of traditional music in the region.
The seemingly monolithic, chaotic sound of Timbila Ta Venâncio at full tilt is disorienting at first, until the undulations wash over the listener, sync somewhere internally and become invigorating.

Yet all the rhythmic energy bubbling through this recording is more than a ritual. It follows a cadence that begins within the family. The group's members are all brothers. That is hardly surprising: they are the sons of the celebrated Venâncio Mbande, a true master of timbila. An icon and the focal point of timbila festivals during much of his lifetime (he died in 2015), leaving us the legacy presented here. 'Ecos do Legado' (Echoes of the Legacy) is a new recording made in a state-of-the-art Studio Bom Dia in Inhambane Province in 2026. This album stands as a monument to the master Venâncio Mbande, a tribute to the Chopi people, and an interpretation of Mbande's unforgettable work.

The order of the pieces is not random: they are interconnected and tell a coherent story. The ten pieces unfold in the traditional sequence across two sides, following long-established principles. Learning to play begins very early and unfolds naturally, since children are in constant contact with the instruments. Women, too, are now beginning to take an interest in this cycle of learning. This is a clear sign that the tradition remains vibrantamong the Vatxopi, who regard timbila as the heart of their culture.

Ghost Funk Orchestra

Yours In The Ranks Of Death

Ghost Funk Orchestra (GFO) returns to our orbit with 'Yours in The Ranks of Death', their most grounded and personal collection of songs to date. Reflective and ethereal, the fifth full-length album from Ghost Funk Orchestra finds composer/mastermind Seth Applebaum paring down the sounds and conceptual underpinnings — providing his signature grooves a cleaner pocket to glide across the turntable. Like a summer sun's rays slowly atomizing morning fog, what comes into sharper relief are the angles and crystalline figures that have made Ghost Funk Orchestra the groovy modern psychedelic soul jazz boogaloo backbone of Karma Chief Records since joining the label in 2018.

Silver Mt. Zion

Horses In The Sky - 21st Anniversary Edition

Long a cult favourite among fans, the 2005 album by Thee Silver Mt. Zion is often cited as the group’s high water mark and cemented their evolution into a distinctly and divisively uncategorizable band blending punk, emo, post-classical, Klezmer, and other folkways into a unique and strident protest music. Out of stock for two years, Constellation is issuing a 21st anniversary vinyl repress of 'Horses In The Sky' that expands on the original’s extensive artwork and packaging: for the first time in a gatefold jacket with fully artworked inner sleeves, the repress also restores the 12-page 10”x10” art booklet and preserves the side-D vinyl etching.

Topping the best ‘post-rock’ albums of 2005 at Tiny Mix Tapes with a 4.5/5 rating, their review nonetheless states “with varying song mechanics, a wider array of lyrical themes, and a broadened pallet, Silver Mt. Zion has escaped the shadow of their sister band [Godspeed You! Black Emperor], crafting an album with the kind of underground appeal that outlives tags like ‘post-rock.’” Six tracks spread across three sides of vinyl include two of the group’s most beloved sprawling multi-movement protest songs, 'God Bless Our Dead Marines' and 'Mountains Made Of Steam', both massive live favourites at the time.

First up is a gem from back in 2011, packed with samples and even more swagger: 'Things U Do' makes its vinyl debut here too, then comes 2015's 'DreamDoll' with its warm, sugar chords and late night glow and last but not least is 2008's 'I Know You Were Right' with its none, humid chords and soft pads all heating up a lush, deep, mind demo house groove for cosy crowds only. Another vital collection of timeless grooves from Giom.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band

Roaring Silence

1976 and 1977 were two pivotal years in the history of Manfred Mann's Earth Band. In the midst of a successful run of five albums, the band underwent several lineup changes while building an extraordinary global following with its distinctive blend of progressive rock, jazz, and blues. Although Manfred Mann was already familiar with chart success from his earlier career, 'The Roaring Silence' propelled Manfred Mann's Earth Band to an entirely new level of fame, reaching the top of the charts in 1977.

Of course, Bruce Springsteen's 'Blinded by the Light' had all the ingredients of a hit, but its success must have come as a surprise to both the band and Springsteen alike, as it became the first No. 1 single for both. The song captivated a whole new generation of Manfred Mann fans, with the invigorating combination of newly recruited vocalist Chris Thompson's powerful lead vocals and Mann's signature keyboard style transforming it into a modern classic rock anthem. To this day, it remains one of the most frequently played songs in classic rock history.

Julian Cope

Trip Advizer - 2026 Reissue

Originally released as Julian Cope’s own idiosyncratic survey of his post-major-label years, 'Trip Advizer' returns in monumental form as Triple Advizer: three records spanning three decades of Cope’s musical quest.

Available on vinyl for the very first time, this definitive edition is housed in a deluxe triple gatefold sleeve and features new liner notes written by Julian providing an ‘A-Z of The Trip’.

The release forms part of the WEIRD WALK RECORD CULT, an occasional series of limited editions celebrating records the Weird Walk team love.
In the Drude’s own words: “My job down the years has become increasingly clear: to reveal anything I can that might be culturally useful, and to do it always in a catchy-bastard manner. Or, more simply, to be your 'Trip Advizer'.”

Beverly Glenn-Copeland

Light Of The Heavens

'Light Of The Heavens' was recently discovered and released digitally earlier this year. It was recorded shortly after the creation of the beloved and influential 1986 album 'Keyboard Fantasies', which marks its 40th anniversary this year.

'Light Of The Heavens' further showcases the sonic style explored in this pivotal period, and is accompanied by an iconic performance video captured from the same era. The original recording and live version are available as a physical offering for the first time, alongside the reissue of 'Keyboard Fantasies' 40th anniversary in a limited run.

Speaking on the single, Beverly Glenn-Copeland reveals: “We are so pleased to share this nearly-lost song & video: 'Light Of The Heavens'. Credit to my friend and publisher Jeff Waye who uncovered this forgotten song while looking through old tapes in my archive. It was recorded around the time of 'Keyboard Fantasies' and I was so thrilled to be brought back to that moment. Unearthing the video was especially meaningful to me for two reasons: dance has always been my favourite artform, and Susan McNaughton's choreography and performance are deeply moving; plus I recorded this on my favourite place on the Earth, the Canadian Shield where I lived in hermit- like splendour for many years. This song feels like a gift from my past, and all of us hope that you enjoy revisiting this era of the work so generously sent to me by the Universal Broadcasting System.”

Keyboard Fantasies - 40th Anniversary Edition

40th anniversary reissue of legendary Canadian / American singer, composer and transgender activist Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s seminal work. An ahead-of-its-time synth exploration which somehow combines the essence of new-age minimalism, early Detroit techno and the warmth of traditional songwriting.

His third album, 'Keyboard Fantasies', was originally self-released on cassette in 1986. Initially overlooked by mainstream media, it caught the ear of a Japanese collector who contacted the artist in 2015 and asked for copies to sell. These sold out instantly and led to more copies being distributed… and multiple offers from record labels

This reissue features exclusive new artwork in a different colour palette and includes liner notes written by Robyn (as per the previous reissue). This is only the third time the album has been repressed (as limited as the previous represses). Alongside the 40th anniversary reissue, 'Light Of The Heavens', a recently discovered recording from that era is available as a physical offering for the first time in a limited 7” run.

Nothing Ever Was: Compiled By DJ Sundae

Consummate selector DJ Sundae returns to Efficient Space with 'Nothing Ever Was', an immaculate compendium of phantom independent melancholia spanning '60s/'70s village green folk, outsider shoegaze and new millennium domestic pop. Each recording an emotional exorcism, Sundae breathes oxygen into music that was barely there in its own time, made in quiet places and crawl spaces, shared only with a precious few via private presses, hobby labels and now-decaying CD-Rs.

A deeper, more personal exploration of Sky Girl's sentimental songwriting, Sundae found himself amassing a cache of tracks too undeniable to remain confined to his anonymous mixtapes for TTT, P.A.M. and Good Morning Tapes, or bi-monthly hour on NTS Radio. Again his emotional sorcery draws together an unlikely cast, their unwritten narrative assembled from fragmented memories of past lives left behind by future horse trainers, ketamine therapists and Fab Four cover band careerists.

With not a second squandered across the compilation, it took a village to bring this new companion into being, with David Bergot's forensic audio restoration, dreamlike imagery from Matthieu Crozier, Ivan Liechti's elegant design and a perceptive foreword by kindred spirit Jessica Pratt.

Free of any prescribed epoch, continent, scene or rarity, Noughties homemade indie pop opens both sides with the 4-track wonders of The Motifs and Betelmire, unlinked contemporaries finding their place alongside Andrew Jay's Crazy Horse rust, the regional-garage adolescence of Pauline Scribner and the anaesthetised Mancunian guitar-poetry of the late Quigley.

The remaining coordinates zigzag between the UK and US. Folk wayfarers John Strang & Valentine Lewis Lloyd, Virgin Insanity, Kusudo & Worth and Penny Wager's spartan Garden of Eden acoustica find their mirror in Empress and Slumber's close-quarters indie pangs. Chicago power pop fixture Phil Angotti is caught at his most tender, while Teri Rini takes the final bow with her universe-stopping hotel lounge torch song.

Gun

Taking On The World - 2026 Reissue

'Taking On The World' is not just the title of Gun’s debut album, but a statement of intent from the young Scottish rock band. Now, almost 40 years later, the album is reissued. This new edition features a sleevenote interview with brothers Giuliano and Dante Gizzi, written by Joel McIver detailing Gun’s early days, from playing chicken wire enclosures in the USA, to supporting The Rolling Stones in 1990, and appearing on Top of the Pops. Originally released in 1989, Gun’s debut album on A&M Records featured the Top 40 singles ‘Better Days’ and ‘Shame On You’. It was produced by Kenny MacDonald and recorded by the band’s original lineup, formed of vocalist Mark Rankin, Giuliano Gizzi and Baby Stafford on guitar, Dante Gizzi on bass, and Scott Shields on drums, with additional vocals from Sharleen Spiteri of the band Texas.

Busta Rhymes & J Dilla

DILLAGENCE II

In the history of hip-hop, certain collisions alter the orbit of the culture entirely. When Busta Rhymes first stepped into the otherworldly, swing-heavy universe of J Dilla, it was an alignment of two unstoppable titans—the most chaotic, kinetic vocalist in rap history meeting the quiet deity of raw soul and sub-bass perfection. Their original pairing set a gold standard for what happens when top-tier lyrical warfare meets sacred production. Now, the vault opens to unveil DILLAGENCE II: a resurrection of that mythic frequency, bridging the raw grit of the streets with a legendary, earth-shattering grandeur.

Authorized directly from the Yancey estate, DILLAGENCE II pairs Busta’s razor-sharp, rapid-fire flows with Dilla’s nastiest, most sought-after unreleased beats. Built upon rare MPC canvases unearthed from Dilla’s legendary vault, the album captures both masters in a state of absolute, unchained ascension. Every track hits like a heavyweight knockout—blending off-grid snares, filthy basslines, and soaring soul chops with Busta’s apocalyptic precision. He treats every lost Detroit tape like a battleground, unleashing a larger-than-life energy that turns unreleased boom-bap into a stadium-sized manifesto.

Forget the cheap nostalgia cash-ins and posthumous butcher jobs. DILLAGENCE II hits with the weight of two master craftsmen operating at the absolute peak of their powers. By locking Detroit’s deepest low-end grooves directly into New York’s loudest, most relentless vocal engine, this record doesn't just honor Dilla's legacy—it kicks the door off its hinges and demands you listen.

Brighter Days Ahead (Volume 2)

ABOUT THE LP:
"Hey there! My name is Terry Cole, and I have the privilege of operating a wonderful independent record label called Colemine Records in Loveland, Ohio. We’ve been doing it for almost 20 years, and we’re lucky enough to operate our label above our equally wonderful record shop called Plaid Room Records.

"In March of 2020, when the reality of a global pandemic set in, we weren’t sure what we were going to do as far as our release schedule. Everything sort of came to an immediate halt. But after a few weeks of brainstorming, we decided that even though our physical release schedule had been completely upended, we would pivot to releasing a new digital single every Thursday night until we were able to resume normal operations. We called the campaign Brighter Days Ahead, because at Colemine, we try to find the silver lining whenever we can. So, for the better part of 2020 we released digital singles every Thursday; we would have virtual listening parties and DJ sets on YouTube. It was pretty fun. All of those tunes culminated in a 2LP set that we finally released in its physical form in 2021. And while we hope nothing like a global pandemic ever happens again, I had to admit that I wanted to find a way to make the Brighter Days Ahead campaign some sort of permanent vehicle for us.

"It’s 2026 as I write this, so obviously it’s taken me a few years to conceive this idea, but we’ve finally arrived and it feels pretty damn good. The idea is pretty simple: the first volume of 'Brighter Days Ahead' took a retrospective approach...compiling what we had already released...and this time around we’re taking a prospective approach. What you hold in your hands is a preview of what’s to come. This record is a crystal ball looking deep into the musical future of 2027, and giving you a sneak preview as to what you can look forward to hearing from the Colemine universe. And guess what? This piece of plastic you hold in your hands is the only way to hear it. These tunes aren’t out digitally yet. Some of these are rough mixes. Some are so fresh the song titles aren’t even final. So tear off the plastic and strap in — you’re about to travel forward in time, no flux capacitor required."
