The Great Invisibles

You Left Me Haunted

"You Left Me Haunted" by the Great Invisibles is the first solo album by Michael Deragon, formerly a member of alt-folk collective the Water Section and free-jazz combo and Knitting Factory regulars, Prajna. Throughout the 11 tracks Deragon skillfully juxtaposes neo-appalachian style finger picked guitars with children's toy orchestrations and musique-concréte found-sound collages, forming a synthesis of sound that is both traditional and alien at the same time. Special mention must be made of the visually striking packages. Each one is slightly different and hand-made by Deragon himself. Providing a perfect visual analog to the music, the packages are a collage of old magazine adverts, letterhead, tape and other found objects, cut apart and reconfigured into new and beautiful forms. The Great Invisibles continue to perform live with Deragon on guitar & laptop, occasionally being joined by Juliet Nelson (Tigersaw) on cello, Nathan Groth (Hotel Alexis) on guitar and Michael Palace (Horchata) on electronics. Fans of Six Organs, Scenic, Fonal Records, Giant Sand, "Spoke" era Calexico, take note!
