Bohren For Beginners

Since their formation just over 30 years ago, hardly any German band has managed to create such a unique musical cosmos as Bohren & der Club O fGore, from Mühlheim.

With their dark instrumental tracks, Bohren have been able to create a firm fanbase, and renowned musicians such as Mike Patton (Faith No More), Ry-X, John Grant, Soap&Skin and Thor Harris (Swans) have long since fallen for Bohren’s timeless songs.

The wonderfully titled ‘Bohren For Beginners’ now collects all the highlights of the Bohren catalogue in partly remixed versions, as well as a new song, for the first time as a 3LP album; a gateway drug for newcomers as well as for diehard fans.

Since a large part of the Bohren back catalogue has already been deleted for years, musical treasures are unearthed here that have lost none of their quality, and they will still be giving you goosebumps in 20 years.

    Geisterfaust

The slowest band in the world became even slower with 2005’s ‘Geisterfaust’.

The 58 minute album contains five songs, each titled after the fingers of a hand (the length of the tracks are proportional to the average length of these fingers).

“The stretches of silence, the resonating chords, the cyclical melodic developments, and the paradoxical atmosphere of tension (what will happen next?) and relaxation (it is, after all, extremely smooth music, no need to be so tense) all point to the Australian trio [The Necks] a thousand times more than anyone on the roster of Ipecac, the label that reissued ‘Black Earth’ to worldwide attention a year before ‘Geisterfaust’ came out.” - All Music

      Dolores

New album by this European cult band sounding a little like Sigur Ros meets "Twin Peaks". Their unique sound has gained them fans that range from Faith No More's Mike Patton to Sigur Ros, Mogwai and Burial to The Melvins who have invited them to perform at ATP's Nightmare Before Christmas. "Dolores" is released on Mike Patton's Ipecac Recordings in North America. 'Bohren appeal to listeners of black metal, drone and jazz' - Pitchfork, 'Bohren could easily be Satan's own jazz combo' - Popmatters.
