    Breakup Haircut

    No Worries If Not

Acclaimed punk-pop pioneers Breakup Haircut return with a second album that pushes their sound further: sharper and tighter, but stays messy in all the right places. This is about leaning into joy, silliness, and trust: in each other, in the process, in the songs. They recorded it in a literal garage (mummified, decaying bird and all), recording DIY-style with their longtime engineer Marvin living on-site for a week of chaos, cowbells, and comfort food.

The result is a punchy and emotionally layered collection that ricochets from resentment to resilience, from burnouts to breakups. Throughout, the band blends high-impact hooks with unexpectedly vulnerable songwriting, making it clear they’re not afraid to be loud and honest. No Worries If Not! is a love letter to the messy, joyful, exhausting, chaotic experience of making music with your friends.

            Sophia Hansen-Knarhoi

            Undertow

With her first album 'Undertow', London-based composer/singer-songwriter Sophia Hansen-Knarhoi reveals stark venerability in a world of sound that is intimate and expansive. Voice and cello entwine to provide a cinematic intensity to songs that tell stories of memory, growth, and the raw, often dark, textures of emotion. with cinematic intensity.. ‘Undertow’ tethers intimacy to the corporeal, spanning violation and deep trust.. It deals with the fallout of the victims of violence against women, voyaging through fear and pain to absolution.

Born in Perth, Western Australia, Hansen-Knarhoi grew up surrounded by the natural world. ‘Undertow’ draws on the stark landscapes of Western Australia. At moments, field recordings are woven into the work, while at others, arrangements reflect its beautiful barren environment through memory. “Engulfing myself in nature has always been a way for me to process the world, to bring me back into my body and my senses”. ‘Undertow’ revels in this remote sonic landscape

Her 2023 debut EP, 'Wildflowers', explores the transition from childhood to adulthood, blending ethereal, delicate vocals with graceful and tender instrumentation to embody memory, trauma, and the moments that shape us. This time, with the skilled Brooklyn producer Randall Dunn as a collaborator, Undertow pushes further into the abstract, a dark and dissociative space. Dunn carves intricate space around the lyrics, etching into the soundscape with tension. Cello and voice interact as dual narrators, layering hypnotic drones, gritty textures and raw emotive vocals.

'Undertow' frames Hansen-Knarhoi in a caught moment, continuing her evolution, and all the sharp objects in the way. “Although rage is a cornerstone of its being, it is grounded in a hope of connection, a sense of healing on the horizon.”

'Bite The Hand That Feeds You' is the debut EP from Amsterdam-based DJ and producer Jasmín. Blending genres, moods, and eras, it draws on her Dutch-Argentinian roots while channeling the nostalgia of teenage discovery: "that formative era of girlhood where you're growing up online and building your world digitally." Across three tracks, Jasmín explores the tension between this lasting inner world and the harsher realities outside, weaving techno, bass, and dub into percussion-driven music defined by both force and introspection.

Two tracks feature London-born, Lisbon-based artist Older Brother, whose vocals move between meditation and proclamation. 'Overdriven' was built on Jasmín's original instrumental, while 'The Ride' emerged from reworking a fragment of its vocal. Together, they highlight her ability to transform personal dialogue into public expression – music that invites both reflection and release, as much to ponder as it is to dance to.

                Jeff Pearlman

Only God Can Judge Me : The Many Lives Of Tupac Shakur

Scrutinized in life, mythologized in death, Tupac Shakur remains a subject of immense cultural significance and speculation nearly thirty years after his murder. Despite a multitude of books, documentaries, and even a feature film, much about Tupac’s story remains shrouded and misunderstood.

Like many icons who died tragically young, Tupac the man has long been obscured—his edges sanded down, his complexity numbed—by the competing agendas that surround his legacy. In Only God Can Judge Me, accomplished biographer and New York Times bestselling author Jeff Pearlman tackles his most nuanced subject, telling the definitive story of Tupac Shakur in unprecedented depth. In this authoritative look at Tupac’s life, Pearlman skillfully recreates West Coast hip hop in all its glory, going inside Death Row Records and on the sets of movies like Juice and Poetic Justice to offer the most clear-eyed rendering to date of the man who still casts a shadow over modern hip hop.

But more than just a biography of a complicated figure, Only God Can Judge Me also captures the time and place in which Tupac rose, a singular moment in music history when West Coast hip hop became a phenomenon and transformed popular music. Featuring nearly seven hundred original interviews and never-before-published details from every corner of Tupac’s life, the result offers a truly singular portrait of one of modern pop culture’s most towering figures. Guided by the voices of those who knew and lived life alongside him, Only God Can Judge Me captures the layers of a man who, even thirty years after his death, remains as elusive as ever.

                  Harmonia

                  Deluxe - 50th Anniversary Edition

When Harmonia made an album, it was about more than just music – it was about a vision. Released in 1975, Deluxe was the band’s second album. Compared to their debut, it focused more on structure, melody, and rhythm. Harmonia showed a more accessible side without losing their depth.

Now, 50 years later, Deluxe returns in a special anniversary edition: a high-quality gatefold with previously unreleased photos and orange vinyl inspired by the original artwork. This edition is for collectors and anyone curious why artists like Brian Eno and David Bowie considered Harmonia a major influence – and why Deluxe remains a blueprint for electronic music today. Brian Eno once called Harmonia “the world’s most important rock band”¹ – a quote that captures just how visionary their music was, and still is.

                    Pacifica

                    In Your Face

Formed in Buenos Aires by Inés Adam and Martina Nintzel, Pacifica emerged in 2021 from an online friendship sparked by a shared love of The Strokes. What began as a series of YouTube covers quickly evolved into a full-fledged creative force—culminating in their signing to TAG Music after a fan-funded trip to see The Strokes in New York City. Drawing on the raw urgency of early-2000s garage rock, the swagger of post-punk, and the emotional undercurrent of '90s alt, Pacifica’s music feels instantly familiar but entirely their own. Their sophomore album In Your Face marks a new era for the band as they continue to ride the line between vulnerability and rebellion, proving that even in a fractured world, two friends and a couple of guitars can still make something unforgettable.

‘Bourj Hammoud Groove’ is a reissue compilation celebrating the music of Ara Kekedjian, an Armenian- Lebanese musician who helped shape Beirut’s Estradayin pop sound. His songs fuse disco, synth-pop and Armenian melodic traditions into a timeless groove.

The compilation is named after Bourj Hammoud, a Beirut neighbourhood that became the cultural hub for the Armenian community.

This collection comes with an extensive booklet featuring detailed liner notes by Darone Sassounian, chronicling Ara’s life and music, alongside rare and exclusive photographs from the archives.

True to Habibi Funk’s archival ethos, the release combines rediscovery with cultural preservation.

                        Kling Klang

                        Half Life

Years ago we saw Kling Klang in a warehouse basement between Oval and Camberwell - two decades ago, I reckon. Synths were rigged up in a DIY sci-fi fashion, wires and cables everywhere. it was heavy. In 2025 we know heavy takes on all forms. It doesn't need to be guitars. We know punk rock takes on all forms, it's not defined by spikey hair. Nothing is anything anymore.

Wrong Speed is proud to be releasing the second Kling Klang album. It makes sense. Two of the band are in Part Chimp. The band is from our world - on the surface. Dig in though and this record is being beamed in from the furthest reaches of the galaxy. Did you watch 'John Was Trying To Contact Aliens' on Netflix? If not, go watch it. It's 15 minutes long. John would love Kling Klang. This is the music he would have been firing into space, had it existed back then.

Synth heavy, hypnotic, soundtrack inspired, motorik music from the past and the future. DIY as hell. Punk rock as hell. Catchy as hell. Creepy and wild.

300 pressed on sweet wasp yellow vinyl. The band is touring the UK, 26th November through to the 7th December - a rare occurrence, don't miss.

                          Hank

                          Twist Grip / Spiralic

Rooted in London’s DIY scene and with a steady run of compelling singles and unpredictable live shows, Hank have gained a reputation for being “one of the best alternative acts in London right now” (So Young). On record, they slip between noise and melody, intimacy and dissonance, drawing comparisons to forebears like My Bloody Valentine, The Breeders and Beck, while their live performances only serve to elevate these contrasts. The past few years has seen formative performances at DIY parties and support slots alongside Been Stellar, Catcher, DEADLETTER, HighSchool, Mannequin Pussy, RIP Magic, Sorry, and Sunken, with this summer seeing them play their first headline shows across the UK as well as appearing at festivals including Left of the Dial and The Great Escape.

Their debut EP 'Twist Grip' set the tone, produced by Jamie Neville (Mark William Lewis, PVA) and featuring guest spots from Asha Lorenz (Sorry) and Ben Romans-Hopcraft (Warmduscher), it earned quick attention with Still Listening Magazine naming it their EP of the Year for 2024. Their second EP ‘Spiralic' came just six months later; again working with Neville, it showed their first EP was no fluke. From the expansive opener “Stand On Yr Star” to the probing “Temp Fix” (featuring Lola’s longtime friend Theo Bleak), Spiralic explores vulnerability, memory and unease through a circular motif of resurfacing thoughts (hence the title).

To close the year, both EPs are being released on vinyl for the first time, being collected as a mini-album as the third in the exciting series of Dinked’s exciting new ‘Early Doors’ series limited and exclusive pressings for the best new bands around. This special edition is also being expanded with second EP’s previously unheard title track “Spiralic” being added; a meditation on repetition, confrontation and escape which features both Sorry’s Asha Lorenz and Marco Pini (also RIP Magic, Slow Dance), the latter also designing the beautiful sleeve art that extends the record’s spiral theme into its physical form.

"Debt" is a new album by Harvey Sutherland about the cost of doing business in the meme economy. In his first LP since the 2022 debut, "Boy", the Australian artist reduces his fusiony disco repertoire to ten microhoused funk essentials. A few years after the neurotic funk of Harvey's psychotherapeutic "Boy", "Debt" is his to-the-point response to pressures that manifest outside the self. But in its own way it remains a reflection of Harvey Sutherland's musical landscapes, which stretch across the grit and glitter of private-press disco and the sensual grids of Metro Area.

The album's title nods to the financial contortions necessary to strive/survive/thrive as an independent artist. But "Debt" is better understood as the ledger of what we owe, and to whom, in the course of a creative life. What's the ROI on being an artist, a son, a friend, a partner, a father? Have we been worth our loved ones' own investments? If that sounds transactional, this is merely the lingua franca of our overwhelmingly digital culture, a grifter's bazaar in which Bob Dylan tunes up over Salt Bae, and Wordsworth's pitch is opposite the Rizzler.

As with "Boy", Harvey Sutherland opens "Debt" to a tight crew of collaborators—the Tampa rap duo (and Jan Jelinek heads) They Hate Change, California native Vicky Farewell, who appears on the smoky lovers' rock of "Remember," and one of Australia's great songwriters, Julian Hamilton of The Presets. The album's globally dispersed cast is a natural extension of a charmed musical life that has taken Harvey Sutherland to the DJ booth at Panorama Bar, a stage on Glastonbury as a bandleader, an opener for Khruangbin and Hot Chip, and a remixer for Disclosure, Cut Copy, Chromeo and loads more. One of "Debt"'s concerns - anxieties!? - is that these experiences are precariously held and easily lost in the infinite scroll of AI slop, which has already become a kind of musical impresario, responsible for music that has been streamed a billion times and made by musicians that don't exist. But "Debt" has no time, or space, for complaint. It's the same game it's always been: artistry or bust.

                            Hatchie

                            Liquorice

The cover of Liquorice, the third album from Australian indie pop artist Hatchie, features a closely cropped portrait of Harriette Pilbeam laughing, her smudged red lipstick suggesting the glorious aftermath of a kiss. Captured during a spontaneous backyard photo shoot using a dinky digital camera, the image encapsulates a record that is rough around the edges and joyfully undone with themes of longing, lust, and regret. Pilbeam began writing Liquorice in earnest while living in Brisbane over 2022-2023, and later at a home shared with Agius in Melbourne, ultimately completing the demos in mid-2024. As a musician who has previously worn her influences on her sleeve, Pilbeam strove to write from scratch without any specific musical influences in mind; allowing songs to breathe for weeks, rather than rushing ideas. She found herself drawn to the melodic simplicity of her early songs and embraced her musical insecurities: “I wanted to see my limitations as strengths that inform my style.” After working with producers Jorge Elbrecht (Caroline Polachek, Japanese Breakfast, Sky Ferreira) and Dan Nigro (Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan) on Giving the World Away, Pilbeam wanted to complete Liquorice with a single collaborator, ideally a non-male producer who also fronts their own musical project. In September 2024, Pilbeam and Agius returned to Los Angeles to work with Melina Duterte, who records indie rock under the name Jay Som and has production credits on an assortment of projects including the GRAMMY-winning boygenius album the record. “My last album ended up being really dark and introspective and that is one part of me, but there was this whole other side that I felt like I wasn't expressing,” Pilbeam says. “I’m a hopeless romantic and a very silly person, sometimes to a fault.” Now 32 and married, Pilbeam found that “eternal feelings” of yearning and heartache quickly rushed back as she reflected on her experiences as a younger woman. At the same time, she channeled her fondness for tragic romance movies where the characters do not necessarily find a happy ending together. Liquorice is preoccupied with the finite forever. These songs capture the overwhelming, exhilarating, and transforming side-effects of infatuation, even if the entirety of the love story only lasts for one magical night. Like the rich flavors of the twisty, titular candy——sweet, salty, and bitter all in one bite—Liquorice validates how longing and obsession are intertwined in the self-discovery of young womanhood.

                              STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Soaring, reverb-forward guitars and accumulated waves of melody, resulting in a bright but all-encompassing blanket for the Pilbeam's beautifully harmonised vocal. A bold, summery burst of melody and a considerable leap for Hatchie.

Dedications To The Greats Four - 'Don't Be Cruel' Featuring Joe Harvey-Whyte

Long-time NuNorthern Soul contributor, B.J. Smith is a man in demand, dividing his time between solo work, playing guitar in Crazy P man James Baron’s popular JIM outfit, collaborating in a variety of well-regarded projects (Smith & Mudd, Bison and White Elephant amongst them) and composing for TV. Due to this impressive list of musical commitments, solo releases have been few and far between of late, with Smith’s most recent NuNorthern Soul release, a stripped back version of his Big Sur single, dropping late 2023.

It's been ever longer since he delivered a volume in his popular and ongoing Dedications To The Greats series, where the singer-songwriter and composer successfully turns his hand to other people’s songs. Since debuting the series on NuNorthern Soul in 2013 via revelatory and inspired covers of tracks by Mos Def and the Pharcyde, Smith has covered cuts by Outkast, Prefab Sprout and Soul II Soul.

On volume four, Smith’s first volume in the series for five years, he delivers a “cover of a cover” – a revolutionary and imaginative interpretation of Billy Swan’s ‘Don’t Be Cruel’, itself a version of a song first made famous by Elvis Presley. It was their mutual love of Swan’s version that brought Smith together with the release’s most prominent guest artist, Joe Harvey-Whyte, whose lilting, bittersweet and deeply emotive pedal steel performances can be heard across the EP.

Smith provides three contrasting takes. The EP is led by the ‘Mother Earth’ version, a slowly unfurling epic in which waves of effects-laden pedal steel and sun-splashed picking acoustic guitars usher in Smith’s eyes-closed vocalisations, settling into a groove reminiscent of his collaborative work with long-time friend and collaborator Paul ‘Mudd’ Murphy that showcases Harvey-Whyte centre stage to joyful effect. As the 14-minute epic progresses, we’re treated to long, languid electric guitar solos, percussion-laden slow-motion builds and hazy, stretched-out organ solos. It’s a breathlessly brilliant concoction that’s a million miles away from either Swan or Presley’s versions.

In contrast, the similarly epic ‘Earth Heart’ version – available in full vocal and instrumental takes – pushes the song front and centre. Following an extended build up, where Tamar Osborn’s gorgeous and fluid flute motifs rub shoulders with languid guitar solos and Harvey-Whyte’s pedal steel, Smith takes to the mic, delivering an emotive performance of the song’s heartfelt lyrics over a hushed, slow-motion groove. The track builds in waves as it progresses, with Smith layering up instrumentation as it rolls towards a fine conclusion.

Completing a superb package is the ‘Root Heart Version’, a Balearic-meets-Americana take built around shuffling drums, toasty bass guitar, extended pedal steel instrumentation, flashes of flute and Smith’s sun-bright acoustic guitar. Loved-up and more than a little saucer-eyed, it’s a bona-fide sunset delight.

“a beautifully expansive collection of interweaving, finger-picked melody, husky vocalisations from elder Kunene and thrumming hand percussion” Ammar Kalia, The Guardian (UK)

Bringing together the elder statesman of the Zulu guitar Madala Kunene and internationally acclaimed Sibusile Xaba, kwaNTU pulls two generations of South African guitar mastery into a single point of focus. Under-represented on recordings outside of South Africa, Madala Kunene (b. 1951), the ‘King of the Zulu Guitar’, is revered as the greatest living master of the Zulu guitar tradition. Sibusile Xaba, whose collaboration with Mushroom Hour Half Hour reaches back to his first recording in 2017 (Open Letter To Adoniah/Unlearning), has garnered international acclaim for his unique voice and virtuoso guitar stylings, which bring together multiple South African guitar lineages in an original, spiritualised fusion. Collaborating with Mushroom Hour and New Soil for kwaNTU, the two players come together to weave a filigree sonic fabric which reaches down to the heartwood of Zulu guitar music but moves resolutely outward, building on the past to create a deeply rooted statement about present conditions and future travels. kwaNTU – which can be roughly translated ‘the place of the life-spirit’ – is also conclave of teacher and student, as Xaba has been taught by Kunene for the last decade. Meditative, rich and sonically sui generis, kwaNTU finds these two musicians linking up within the inimitable space of sound and spirit that they share through Kunene’s teaching.

The great masters of South African music have not all had equal exposure. For many years the generation of musicians who were exiled during apartheid took centre stage, as the regime made it very difficult for those at home to be heard. More recently, a new cohort of important voices, especially in jazz, has broken through to international consciousness. But for the generation of musicians in between – those who shone like beacons in the most difficult final years of apartheid and immediately afterward – international recognition has been slow in coming.

Madala Kunene, ‘the King of the Zulu Guitar’, is among this number. A revered figure for current generations of South African musicians, Kunene began his recording career in 1990, at the bitter end of apartheid, with a now classic self-titled LP for David Marks’ storied Third Ear imprint. Born in 1951 in Cato Manor, near Durban, he had determined to be a musician from early childhood, and by the time he first entered a recording studio he had already had a long career as a popular performer. His virtuoso absorption and transformation of the venerable Zulu maskanda guitar tradition and his richly spiritualised approach to music immediately marked him out as someone special, and in the years that followed, Kunene cemented his position as one of South Africa’s musical elders. He is without doubt the grand master of the Zulu guitar tradition, but his sound and sensibility ranges far beyond it into varied sonic terrain, and he has collaborated with a wide range of musicians both at home and abroad. Now in his mid-seventies, he remains a shining light for those that are making music in contemporary South Africa.

‘He is really an amazing person,’ says the guitarist Sibusile Xaba, who has been mentored by Kunene for over a decade, and now invites a collaboration with him on kwaNTU. ‘As a mentor, he's really powerful in showing us the way. For us to have this opportunity to make music together and have a project together is really a blessing to me.’

Xaba himself grew up in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, where his mother had been in a band and his father sang in a church choir, and from early childhood Xaba played homemade tin guitars. He only later realised that music was his calling. ‘I just loved music. I was fortunate. My parents loved music. And when it was time for me to leave home and go to study outside Newcastle, I knew that music was what I wanted to do. There was no second option. It was just music.’ Moving to Pretoria to study music formally, Xaba committed himself to his craft, developing a unique style that draws on both US jazz masters such as Wes Montgomery and Jim Hall, and the rich and varied heritage of the South African guitar, from inspirational jazz players such as Allen Kwela and Enoch Mthalane, to the music of the Malombo groups and Dr. Philip Tabane (Xaba has previously collaborated with Dr. Tabane’s late son, Thabang), and the Zulu guitar tradition embodied by Kunene.

‘I was really in love with the jazz guitar, I really admired it, and I was digging a lot in that direction,’ says Xaba, recalling his first encounter with Kunene’s music, over a decade ago. ‘And then one day on my timeline, Kunene popped up, and I was like – “What's this sound?” I was so connected to it. It really touched me deep. I started checking out his records, and then I found out he's from the same region as I am, which is Zululand.’ After Kunene played a show at the Afrikan Freedom Station in Johannesburg, Xaba make contact with him, and visited him at home in Durban. They struck up a friendship, and Xaba became the elder’s student, as Kunene began to pass on his knowledge and his inimitable way of playing.

kwaNTU is a tribute to this relationship and the deep learning that has defined it. The album was recorded in Zululand in the town of Utrecht, at a cultural centre called Kwantu Village, which gives its name to the album. ‘It's such a broad word,’ Xaba says, ‘but the elders teach us that Ntu is basically an energy, almost chi, an energy, a force that all living beings have within them. It's a living energy, so kwaNTU is like, almost the place of this energy.’ The two men sequestered themselves for five days of jamming, improvising and planning, and then the session was recorded in one take over a single night, with Gontse Makhene joining on percussion and backing vocals and Fakazile on vocals. Other voices and overdubs were later added in the studio in Johannesburg.

The result is a rich and meditative recording that finds two generations in a deeply engaged dialogue. Teaching and passing on his knowledge, the elder Kunene has brought Xaba into a space of sound and knowledge that they now share; Xaba’s own practice of deep communion with nature and his dedication to his musical craft make him the perfect interlocutor for Kunene. The result is an album that foregrounds the two musicians engaged at the highest levels of responsive listening, sympathetic unity, and collaborative concentration. Bringing an elder statesman of South African music to an international listening audience for the first time in decades by pairing him with one of South Africa’s most important new voices, kwaNTU is a meeting of generations and a powerful demonstration of musical lineage and continuity.

‘Before music, there is sound,’ Xaba observes, speaking of Kunene’s unique approach to music. ‘And sound is like a common compartment…it's not restricted to particular people or particular geographic places, you know what I mean? It's sound. Everybody can hear it. So when he constructs that sound into music, I think everybody resonates with the energy behind his construction of sound into song. Here at home, we really love him for preserving our history through the guitar, through his stories as well the music, the songs that he writes. We really, really admire him.’

Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party

After 20+ years spent fulfilling their contract for Atlantic Records - a contract Williams signed as a mere teenager - Paramore announced in December of 2023 that they were finally an independent band. This surprise collection is self-released by Hayley Williams on her new venture Post Atlantic.

These songs come as the third batch of work released from Williams as a solo artist. The COVID-era saw her release two extraordinary albums - 2020’s 'Petals For Armor' and 2021’s 'Flowers for Vases'. Both albums were gorgeous and stark meditations on loss and offered up a contrast to the high-energy and up-tempo muscle she displays in Paramore. “The record—epitomizing vulnerability and transformative growth—reveals a more mature and introspective side of Williams,” said Pitchfork of Petals, and went on to say of Flowers “her voice is undoubtedly the standout feature... husky and gentle, dangerous yet warm,” and explained that the minimal production “makes this a purposeful reset.”

Their new one is called 'Mercy' and it’s made out of blood and empire, children’s laughter, unpaid parking tickets, and things that haven’t happened yet.

Rappers ELUCID and billy woods are joined on the mic by Earl Sweatshirt, Quelle Chris, Cleo Reed, Pink Siifu, Kapwani, and Silka. The Alchemist did everything else.

Sweet Harm are a four piece punk band from the Hudson Valley, NY that treads the intersection of beauty and grit, anchored by love and fuzz. Their new LP 'Certain Sun' is a fever of moods: songs unfolding with a grounded force, equal parts scrappy and shimmering. Jagged guitars converging with bittersweet vocal interplay from Dominic Armao and Kate Larson are anchored by the propulsive rhythm section of Mike Campbell and Liv Battell. Their songs grasp at connection from all angles, weaving a sturdy urgency that feels both bruised and vivid. The members have been playing music in circles around each other for most of their adult lives, catching back up in 2023 and building a new focus together, finally feeling at home with each other.

                                                Amazing Things

A year ago Darren lost a friend to cancer. Amazing Things is an album about death which isn’t morose, slow, or quiet. Instead, it is packed with joyful, melodic guitars and some of Darren’s prettiest tunes. It is sometimes very sad, but also heartfelt, loving, and rewarding.

Darren recorded the album almost entirely solo and this time he has dug deep into his primary instrument, the electric guitar, creating a sound that is rich in tone and texture.

Darren Hayman is a British songwriter best known for his work with late 90s band Hefner, but has since made more than 20 albums dealing with astronauts, the English Civil War, William Morris, Lidos, and Thankful Villages. He lives in South London with his dog.

“In the process of thinking of how to build arrangements for the Shakespeare Hamlet/Hail To The Thief theatre production, I asked to hear some archive live recordings of the songs. I was shocked by the kind of energy behind the way we played. I barely recognised us, and it helped me find a way forward. We decided to get these live recordings mixed and released (it would have been insane to keep them for ourselves). It has all been a very cathartic process. We very much hope you enjoy them.”

Thom Yorke recently co-created the critically acclaimed Hamlet Hail to the Thief, a frenetic adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, set to a deconstructed score of reworked songs from 2003’s Hail to the Thief. Rolling Stone UK said of the new production, “The biggest testament to Yorke and his co-writers that these worlds collide so seamlessly, as if they were always meant to be together.”

Barry says: A wonderfully reimagined selection of live cuts of Radiohead's incendiary 6th LP, Hail To The Thief. Brilliantly bridging the gap between the original LP and their most recent foray into stage production. A wonderfully evocative display from one of the best live bands going.

                                                    In The Earth Again

A collaboration forged in the heart of the American Midwest, 'In The Earth Again' unites Oklahoma City’s noise rock institution Chat Pile with Texas/Oklahoma’s visionary guitarist and composer Hayden Pedigo.
What began as a casual split release idea spiraled into a thirty-six-minute album that threads their contrasting sensibilities into something entirely new.

Pedigo’s panoramic, primitive guitar, meets Chat Pile’s industrial decay, creating a record that explores unknown emotional registers and atmospheric depth for both, In The Earth Again sounds like a post-apocalyptic transmission from rural nowhere.

Instead of making concessions, the five artists work as a single unit, and each decision is made in support of the greater vision. The result is both intimate and expansive, a tribute to the modern wasteland.

Dark Entries honours the late disco innovator Patrick Cowley with Hard Ware, a special double 12" released to celebrate what would have been his 75th birthday. The legendary American hi-NRG favourite has many groundbreaking synth-driven anthems to his name and left behind a vast archive before his untimely death in 1982. Since 2009, Dark Entries has unearthed his lesser-known works from porn soundtracks to unreleased demos. Hard Ware concludes a trilogy that began with Male Box in 2022 and went on to From Behind 2024. It offers ten tracks of cosmic funk, sleazy synthpop and disco oddities and some fine collaborations with Jeanie Tracy and Peggy Gibbons. This expansive collection really underlines that Cowley was a visionary lost too soon.

Cowley's reissues catalogue seems to span everything from funk to floaty Balearic-tinged downbeat, to hi-nrg dancefloor business, and here we get it all in one fantastic place. Legendary.

Hannah Peel’s third album, originally released in September 2017, is a seven-movement odyssey composed for analogue synthesizers and traditional 29-piece colliery brass band.

Mary Casio: Journey to Cassiopeia explores one person's journey to outer space, by recounting the story of an unknown, elderly, pioneering, electronic musical stargazer and her lifelong dream to leave her terraced home in the mining town of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, to see Cassiopeia for herself.

The brass band and rhythm section – ‘Tubular Brass’ - features the top UK championship brass band players who were recorded live on location in The Barnsley Civic Theatre with Peter Gabriel’s Real World studio team. These recordings were then expertly combined with Peel’s detailed, analogue synth layered production to create a wholly unique, collaborative sound; a first of its kind both live and on record.

The re-issue comes with updated artwork by original designer, Grammy award winning, Jonathan Barnbrook (David Bowie collaborator on albums ‘Blackstar’ and ‘The Next Day’) and remastered audio on Berry-coloured vinyl.

During her teenage years in Yorkshire, Peel played trombone in brass bands: marching at weekends and wearing ‘dickie bows’ at competitions and so naturally the ‘brass’ sound has become very much a part of her creative DNA. This love has recently come full circle once again, as Peel is the presenter of the series ‘Brass Banding with Hannah Peel’ for BBC Radio 3.

Mary Casio explores two very different worlds – the power of the brass band players combined with the sub-bass impact and air resonating force of the synths but Peel also creates a very human and intimate, at times fragile sounding record through her collection of ‘breathing’ vintage electronics, found sounds, the nuances of the individual brass instruments and the subtle ambience of her voice combining with the real and raw breathing, shuffling and ‘spit’ of the players themselves.

                                                        ICONOCLASTS

ICONOCLASTS is Anna's first album in five years.

Centered around her incomparable voice and expressive organ playing, the album features Iggy Pop and Ethel Cain among others. Together with producer Filip Leyman, she has crafted a true epic of experimental rock music, full of bombast and emotion. Growing out of her dance-theater piece Atlas Song which had a sold out run at Gothenburg's Opera, this is a singular artist at the absolute height of her powers.

                                                          Hannah Jadagu

                                                          Describe

On Describe, Hannah Jadagu learns the hard way that distance is relative. After her 2023 debut album Aperture garnered glowing praise from outlets like The New York Times and NPR, Jadagu’s blossoming career took her away from her blossoming relationship in New York. Her expansive second album sees her grappling with that separation, finding connections that extend beyond the physical and strengthening her own voice in the process. Describe reverberates with that tension, between wanting connection and craving space. Its lyrics, as on her debut, ache with an emotional specificity that can only be pulled from lived experience. “I’ve been five thousand miles away,” she sings over ricochetting hi-hats on “More”—“Why does three thousand feel like more?”

But that distance also pushed Jadagu to explore new dimensions of her sound. “I'm super into artists that are able to mix analog with modern,” she said, and moving to California for the summer gave her the opportunity to meet new collaborators and experiment with analog synthesizers and drum machines. And while the warm hum of her guitar was her primary instrument for Aperture, she began to feel that her muscle memory of the instrument was holding her back. “It was freeing to be able to sit at a synth and drone on one note while I explored my vocals," she said. ”I found that to be a bit more freeing than playing on a guitar.” Working with producer Sora Lopez at his studio in Altadena and remotely on a few songs with Aperture co-producer and collaborator Max Baby out of Paris, Jadagu carved out a sound on Describe that is both distinctively hers and a total departure from the distorted guitar melodies of her debut.

Much of Describe, though, is about what goes unsaid: “A lot of this album is me trying to figure out how to express ideas that aren’t always so concrete,” Jadagu said. “It's just a flow of things that I'm feeling and going through and expressing.” It’s fitting, then, that Describe ends with “Bergamont,” which finds Jadagu singing some of her most brutally honest lyrics to date over a layered synth that mimics the tension and release of a long, cleansing breath. “I hope you find something true to you,” she sings. On Describe, Jadagu is searching for the words to describe the truth, on her terms, relishing in the uncertainty in that journey.

“A dreamy, hazy cipher of an album that settles slowly and lazily over the listener, displacing his or her sense of time and space.Snippets of singers wafting ghostly out of the ether only to re-enter the mist and wind themselves around a slow, sultry, steamy rhythm, a heavily seductive mix that slithers around McDonald's awesome and understated guitar playing. It comes from the swampy underbelly of the Delta blues bible, and Adrian Sherwood's smoky, dubbed-out effects, loops, and echo chambers are everywhere, with sounds that come from out of time yet seem to belong right where they are.” Thom Jurek, All Music

Ma Haiping's "Mind Reader," on SCAN Records, the new label from Detroit legend SCAN 7, is an EP that extends his Detroit futurism aesthetic, reimagining techno as a vehicle for paranoia and prophecy in the algorithmic age. It's a tense, synth-driven meditation on surveillance and synthetic reality. "Mind Reader" suggests our devices aren't just watching - they're thinking. The standout, "Sensitive Period" (with Shanghai Ultra), pulses with restraint, while "No Exposed" explores icy isolation. Classic 808s and funky basslines nod to Drexciya, but Ma's voice is unmistakable: cerebral, tactile, and deeply attuned to the present moment's fractured frequencies.

Ralph Lawson's Leeds-based 20/20 Vision Recordings continues to mark its 30th anniversary with another special release. "Full Circle Vol. Two" revisits label classics through a series of fresh, heavyweight remixes. Co-founder Random Factor flips Ricardo Villalobos' seminal "Easy Lee" into bubbling electro, all lush harmonies and tremulous bass. Bobby reimagines "Lockdown" as a moody, propulsive 4/4 club weapon and on the B-side, Fabric resident Craig Richards strips "Convergence" into hypnotic, percussive minimalism, while Hardway Bros' acid-tinged rework of "Digitize" delivers rumbling low-end and twisted vocal fragments.

                                                                      STAFF COMMENTS

Led by talking percussion, rich velvet atmospheres drift heavily ovver the listener whilst strange vocal utterances paint vivid otherworldly pictures in our mind's eye. With a keen ear for texture and dynamics, not to mention impressive sound design skills; Greville stitches exotic sonic tapestries together in an impresseive and highly melifluous manner. Much recommended!

Now, for the first time, a deluxe, 2xLP expanded edition of the Halloween Kills score is being made available by Carpenter’s longtime label, Sacred Bones Records.

Now, for the first time, expanded editions of all three scores are being made available in a deluxe box set by Carpenter’s longtime label, Sacred Bones Records.

The acclaimed album from Svaneborg Kardyb is now repressed on bio vinyl. The Danish duo, Nikolaj Svaneborg (keys) and Jonas Kardyb (drums, percussion) craft intricate, cyclical compositions that balance introspective warmth with an underlying sense of movement. Jazz-tinged minimalism that drifts between contemplation and momentum, where soft Wurlitzer swells and crisp percussion ripple like echoes in still water.

HAAi returns with her bold and brilliant second album, 'HUMANiSE', exploring the sweet spot between machine-led dystopia and emotion-filled utopia.

In all of her work, Teneil has always sought to conquer new frontiers in electronic music, and on the new album, she’s drilling deeper into the grid. 'HUMANiSE' reckons with what it is to be human in an increasingly digital world, as AI threatens to eclipse everything and our screens separate us from each other. The result is an ambitious and thrilling epic: embodying a sonic step up, and a distinct evolution from her 2022 debut, 'Baby, We’re Ascending'.

Voices – both real and digitised – play a huge part on 'HUMANiSE', alongside ideas of community and a sense of belonging. She has returned to work with friends including Jon Hopkins, Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip, singer Obi Franky, rapper KAM-BU, artist Kaiden Ford, and poet James Massiah, as well as two choirs: Trans Voices with choir leader ILĀ and a gospel choir led by Wendi Rose. Having spent years behind the decks, HAAi also brings her own voice to the forefront in a powerful shift toward vulnerability and self-expression. Her vocals, stunningly delicate, give a newfound dimension to her kinetic productions.

The album’s concept became clear while HAAi was in the studio with Hopkins. The pair were playing with a vocal harmonizer plug-in with a function called ‘Humanize’. For HAAi, a light went off: “The idea of something completely synthetic trying to make an actual person sound more human is crazy,” she says. HAAi blurs these extremes throughout the album: digitising voices, layering them to hazy effect, and even using an AI text-to-speech to generate her voice. But, ultimately, she concludes that experience and memory – what makes us truly human – cannot be replaced.

From the euphoric opener ‘Satellite’, to BBC Radio 6 Music A-listed track ‘Can’t Stand To Lose’, and genre-smashing cuts like ‘Shapeshift’, the album is filled with exhilarating sonic twists and deeply personal lyrics. 'HUMANiSE' is a powerful, emotionally charged leap forward: a celebration of community, self-expression and humanity.

In Spanish, La Luz means “light” and that’s the perfect thing to evoke when your songs give the illusion of veering in the opposite direction. But lift out most any lyric—which is a good excuse to give a closer listen to the delicate, four-part harmonies that are fast becoming the band’s signature—and you’ll find that the aches and pains of love and loss, of living in a world where no foothold is ever a promise—all this is delivered with a nuanced dose of perfectly timed exhilaration, like the whole thing might just be worth it in the end.

Don’t Let The Devil Fool Ya', Robert Finley returns in full force—testifying with grit, fire, and a voice forged in the juke joints and backwoods churches of North Louisiana. His fourth release with Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound is a raw, soul-stirring journey through the sounds that shaped him, channeling deep blues, gospel, and Southern spirit into a collection that’s as timeless as it is urgent. Now in his 70s and singing stronger than ever, Finley delivers songs that stomp, soar, and uplift—proving once again that he's one of the most vital voices in American roots music today.

“Hasabe” is a thoughtfully curated collection of Ethio-groove recordings from one of the overlooked pioneers of 1970s Addis Ababa’s vibrant music scene—Ayalew Mesfin and his Black Lion Band.

Expect trap drum kits, jazz big-band styled horn sections, funky guitars played through wah wah and fuzz pedals— all seasoned with a unique Ethiopian touch…

For many, the music created in 1970s Ethiopia will sound both familiar and alien: while the trappings of ’70s Ethiopian music carry some aspects that those in the West will easily identify with—trap drum kits, jazz big-band styled horn sections, guitars played through wah wah and fuzz pedals—the Ethiopian style of singing, and the modes in which the musicians move, may confound. Perhaps some who have delved into the instrumental Ethio-Jazz of Mulatu Astatke—a well-known Ethiopian musical export, relatively unknown in his homeland—will have a context in which to engage this great compilation of ’70s Ethiopian music by Ayalew Mesfin.

The music Mesfin created with his Black Lion Band is amongst the funkiest to arise from Addis Ababa; his recording career, captured in nearly two dozen 7” singles and numerous reel-to-reel tapes, shows the strata of the most fertile decade in Ethiopia’s 20th century recording industry, when records were pressed constantly by both independent upstarts and corporate behemoths, even if they were only distributed within the confines of the unconquerable East African nation. Ayalew was forced underground by the Derg regime that took control of the country in 1974.

Until recently, only four of Ayalew Mesfin’s tracks had been reissued, appearing in the well-known “Éthiopiques” series. “Hasabe”, a carefully curated collection of his singles, marks the first comprehensive release of this powerful and long-overlooked body of work by an artist whose originality and resistance defined a genre: Ethio-groove.

More than four decades later, this album offers the rare opportunity to rediscover a vital and beautiful chapter in global music history. We are now reissuing “Hasabe” once again thanks to a collaboration with Now Again.

Genre-defying producer, DJ, and Disco Halal founder Moscoman returns with Caviar, his most ambitious album yet.

Moving beyond the club, Caviar is built for live performance - blending indie, shoegaze, and grunge influences with real instrumentation, deep emotion, and a sense of movement.

Featuring collaborations with COMA, SCUDFM, Tom Sanders, Justin Strauss, The Golden Dregs, and Talee, the ten- track album was written between LA and Berlin, shaped by experimentation, travel, and reinvention. With echoes of The Cure, The Smiths, and Cocteau Twins, Caviar merges nostalgia with Moscoman's signature "happy-sad" sound, crafting something both raw and refined.

Deaf Havana are back with their 7th studio album ‘We’re Never Getting Out’.

The songs that materialised for We’re Never Getting Out’ are, despite their shimmering disposition, devastatingly sad. Every anxiety, every step back, every wrench of the heart that comes with realising the life you thought you had built is crumbling around you is on display in vivid colour. And that’s because most of them were written whilst James was in his marital home, penning break-up ballads before the break-up had even occurred. From the confused limbo of ‘Carousel’, detailing the dizziness that comes with this cycle of sadness and self-medicating he was stuck in, to the tear-stained ‘Frida, 1939’, where the concern of who he would be away from this massive part of his life comes to the forefront, through to the intent to not settling for the ordinary at the centre of ‘Lawn Tennis’ or the fear of being the one to make the all-important move surrounding ‘Car Crash’ it’s heavy going, heart-breaking and spine-tinglingly
                                                                                                  honest in equal measure.

In embracing the rough with the smooth and taking the steps he never thought he was going to, James has found a balance that probably wasn’t possible to locate in the past. And ‘We’re Never Getting Out’, as a title defines that feeling perfectly and reflects even more in how he is looking to the future. There are things we will never truly escape. The life we have lived so far, no matter how much of a success or failure we see it being, is committed to the echelons of history. The scars will remain, and the remnants of our past lives will constantly flow through our bloodstream. But in using that to their advantage, Deaf Havana has never felt more prominent or powerful.

“It’s excitement I feel now and not dread, I feel like this is a true fresh start.”

                                                                                                      5. Steel Cathedrals

With ‘Hallo’, the Belgian four-piece enter a new era, one in which their explosive garage rock gives way to songs that now also shine and sparkle. 'Hallo' is the sound of youth unleashed. Of lives lived and experience knocking on your door. “Hello, we are SONS!”

SONS still relentlessly torment their instruments – just check out the furious title track – but what makes ‘Hallo’ different from the previous two albums (2019’s ‘Family Dinner’ and 2022’s ‘Sweet Boy’) is a certain joie de vivre that has crept in. By looking deeper into themselves, they have discovered that not every message needs to be accompanied by a fist on the table. A tap on the shoulder and a telling glance can sometimes be more effective.

The talisman for this fresh, musical, but still sharp and powerful sound: producer David McCracken. Also known for shaping the sexy groove of dEUS classic ‘The Architect’, the British producer has an impressive resume having worked with Stone Roses’ frontman Ian Brown, A$AP Rocky, Beyoncé and Depeche Mode amongst others. McCracken loved the band’s new demos and after having made several trips to the band’s hometown of Melsele (a small town near Antwerp know for its annual Miss Strawberry competition) to help whip the songs into shape then invited the band to record in London.

As for the subject matter on ‘Hallo’, SONS continues to find inspiration in everyday life and in the way we allow ourselves to be held hostage to hustle and bustle of things. The struggle with social media and unrealistic ideals of beauty, the constant feeling of having to be reachable, but just as much they cut to universal themes like friendship or the importance of maintaining a positive outlook on life.

Initially "Dracula Prince Of Darkness" was a cult 1966 horror movie starring Cristopher Lee. Released in 1969, Dracula Prince Of Darkness was produced by Joe Mansano on the Duke label DU034 (but featuring the blue Joe label) with the great instrumental Honky by the Joe's All Stars on the flip. It was the very first title in the King Horror series and one of the very best tracks. It is widely believed that it is Laurel Aitken who is performing on it!

This irresistible track "Ghost Horror" was the last in the King Horror series and was only released as a B-side on a white label that never got released. This was in 1970 on the Reggae label. Reggae was a subsidiary of UK label Doctor Bird and only released around ten singles between 1969 and 1970, all highly collectibles including tracks by King Horror, The Message, Pama Dice and the Skinhead Reggae instrumental classic "Tea House" by The Opening. Ghost Hours is not the most famous King Horror track but it is the rarest and is, in our humble opinion, one of King Horror's very best tracks and a fantastic companion of the Prince of Darkness on the flip...

Pressed on heavyweight 180g vinyl and housed in a premium card sleeve with a printed inner lyric sleeve, Some People Have Too Much to Say is the long-awaited return of cult 80s psych/punks Your Heterosexual Violence. Originally formed in 1982 and known for their ferocious live shows and uncompromising sound, Your Heterosexual Violence return with a revitalised lineup and their most ambitious album to date. Fusing post-punk, glam, psych, and existential pop, the record spans radio-friendly anthems, Hammond freakouts, and twisted punk jazz. Lead single "House Outside the World" sets the tone: a punchy, philosophical burner built for both the dancefloor and the end of the world.

Professionally mixed and shaped by decades of underground experience, Some People Have Too Much to Say is defiantly original and joyously unpolished.

Enchanting Japanese vocal artist Hatis Noit has announced Aura Reworks to be released 26th September. The new release reimagines her 2022 debut album, Aura, by legendary artists and collaborators, including the godfather of ambience Laraaji, hip hop duo Armand Hammer, composers and electronic experimentalists Jlin, Alex Somers, William Basinski, Emel, Matthew Herbert and Yu Su.

Aura Reworks opens with a transcendental reinterpretation of the title track “Aura” by laughter meditation practitioner, mystic, and “ambient godfather” Laraaji. Hatis’ haunting vocals whir and groan in conversation with Laraaji’s bouncing hums, over open-tuned zither, kalimba, and timbrels. The soft organic percussion is replaced by thumping, shamanic kick drum on “Thor”, reworked by DJ and producer Matthew Herbert. The track is a playful, primal devotion, evoking a bonfire-lit ritual in the centre of a dancefloor. Matthew Herbert describes the track as an “auditory hallucination where more modern techniques merged with ancient-sounding voices.”. Preservation’s rework of “Jomon” combines Hatis Noit’s powerful cries that evoke Japan’s prehistoric Jomon period with slow, considered vocals by cult New York rap duo Armand Hammer over a minimalist drum loop. The result is a bold call to arms, bridging thousands of years.

Alex Somers’ haunting reimagination of “Angelus Novus” splinters Hatis’ heavy vocals, transforming them into glitchy ASMR-effect blips that bounce in intensity before a brutal, heartbreaking passage, forcing the listener to stop and breathe. As Somers’ track fades, Hatis’ long, soft hums continue into the most contemplative track, “Inori”, reworked by avant-garde composer William Basinski, introduces a delicate piano to the track. “Inori” features a field recording of the ocean only one kilometre away from the nuclear power plant in Fukushima, destroyed by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Hatis Noit had been invited there for a memorial ceremony which marked the re-opening of the area for local people to return to their homes. The emotive and compassionate song is dedicated to the lives lost due to 2011’s tsunami, but equally to the memories people have of their hometown. Aura Reworks closes with “Sir Etok” a haunting track reworked by Emel, whose own voice enters into dialogue with Hatis’, mixing Arabic with her wordless sounds to create new dimensions.

Hatis Noit is a Japanese vocal performer hailing from distant Shiretoko, Hokkaido, who now resides in London. The name Hatis Noit is taken from Japanese folklore, meaning the stem of the lotus flower, as the flower represents the living, while its root represents the afterlife. Therefore, Hatis Noit connects the two worlds, able to move between here and the other side; the past, memory, and subconscious.

The Baltimore house veteran has long been a fixture at the label’s parties, on the remixes, and now under his Muthafunkaz alias he cements the bond with a set that’s as much a time capsule as it is a renewal. "The Muthafunking Hard Times EP" revisits a clutch of Spen’s early-to-mid-2000s jams that, till now, have never been committed to wax. True to form, Spen hasn’t simply dusted them off: he’s remastered, refreshed, and imbued them with a 2025 gleam, bridging past and present in one irresistible sweep.

The A-side opens with the Funkee Kole Cappin’ Mix of 2008’s “(You Make Me Say) Woah!”, a gospel-fired stormer whose call-and-response vocals climb skyward while a cheeky Fab Four nod keeps things buoyant. “Holy Ghost” follows in its Holy Spirit incarnation, wringing church-floor catharsis from tribal percussion and sanctified chants - a blast of kinetic, almost Faya Combo-like fervor.

Flip the record and you’re hit with the swing and strut of 2010’s “Gotta Hold On Me,” Spen’s Vocal Mix turning horns and jazzy drums into a pure adrenaline surge. The closer, “Doin’ The Best I Can,” is a tonal shift: harmonica and guitar sketches circling loose-limbed beats, equal parts after-hours reverie and Sunday-morning balm.

Too vibrant, too joyous, too Spen not to press - "The Muthafunking Hard Times EP" isn’t just archival housekeeping. It’s an affirmation of what house music does best: uplift, electrify, and remind you that, even decades on, the spirit still moves.

It’s loud, raw, and full of life. Much of the album feels a time capsule —a collection of ideas and sounds that Paquin has been quietly nurturing for years. Now, for the first time, they’ve come together in a cohesive whole, shaped by the passage of time and Paquin’s current perspective. “This album is kind of like re-centering what I actually like and what I want to put out to the world,” he explains. Hahaha is a celebration of shared energy, of chaos, of the kind of laughter that erupts when you're fully alive in the moment. It’s a guitar-forward, psych-laced, garage-rock catharsis.

Over The Silvery Lake - 2025 Reissue

London-based psych-folk outfit The Hanging Stars re-release their much-loved debut album Over the Silvery Lake on Crimson Crow. Blending folk pastoralism with swampy 60s Americana, they sound like the missing link between the California desert sun and the grey skies of London Town. The album was recorded between LA, Nashville and Walthamstow, with each of these vastly different places leaving an indelible mark on the songs.

Now signed to the Loose Records label and fronted by London-based songwriter, singer and guitarist Richard Olson (The See See, Eighteenth Day of May), The Hanging Stars are essentially a loose collective of people who weave together a blissed-out psychedelic tapestry. The rest of the core band is made up of Sam Ferman on bass and Paulie Cobra on drums, Horse on pedal steel and Patrick Ralla on banjo, guitar. They jam rather than write and hang out rather than rehearse, harnessing a kind of tipsy euphoria resplendent with luscious arrangements and glorious vocal harmonies.

During 2015, prior to this album’s original release the band released two critically acclaimed singles via The Great Pop Supplement (both of which also appear on the album). “Golden Vanity” was premiered by The Line of Best Fit who said; “you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd just unearthed a rare deep cut from the late 60s/early 70s boom of psychedelia infused Americana” and “The House on The Hill” was described by The Guardian as; "a hazy, desert-dream of a song, nicely sharpened with steely-eyed guitars, Mersey-laced harmonies and just a whiff of the Gun Club”.

There are a number of allusions to nature and the weather on the album, borne in part out of the contrasting surroundings in which it was produced. The band’s fascination with Americana led them to record some of the material Stateside, laying down some of the parts at Battle Tapes Studios in Nashville (Lambchop, Paperhead), as well as at Vision Quest Studios in Los Angeles with Rob Campanella. His work with The Quarter After, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Beachwood Sparks The Tyde, and GospelbeacH was a perfect match to capture their sound and they even had San Franciscan legend Chrystof Certik step in on lead guitar for a couple of tracks.

Following the LA recordings, a trip to the Californian desert provided the core notion of what they wanted to produce - a shard of light that they clung on to whilst recording the rest of the album in the significantly more rain-soaked atmosphere of Walthamstow, London, under the watchful eye of Brian O'Shaughnessy at Bark Studios (The Clientele, Comet Gain). As the band explained at the time: “Ultimately we hope you can hear both the sand and the rain in this record.”

The Hanging Stars place themselves firmly as part of a long folk tradition encompassing European and North American influences – as a continuation rather than a pastiche of these styles. This is the sound of a band really coming in to their own, fully formed and in no doubt of their vision. With Over the Silvery Lake they succeeded in producing a record, which has the country, blues and folk traditions at its heart.

                                                                                                                    Handling

Containing three tracks but 40 minutes long, 'Handling' finds the duo advancing from 2021’s dub-influenced '2X1=4', deploying its lessons in ambitious new territory that also nods to earlier collections.

Handling’s three exquisitely detailed pieces are each entitled ‘Leuchter,’ German for ‘candlestick,’ encapsulating the LP’s luminescent glow and rising inner energy. Its scrupulous arrangements exploit a magic cabinet of instruments, among them pianos, celestas and cristal baschets, glockenspiels, guitars and multiple forms of percussion. Their painstakingly engineered improvisations were equally meticulously reassembled in a series of intense editing sessions.

That the duo’s collaboration is built on a friendship and mutual admiration dating back to the early 2000s enables an unusual level of trust, despite both operating in their own distinct manner. “It’s not Frank, it’s not Nils,” they reflect. “We’ve become a new persona.” Handling blends Blumm’s organic chaos with Frahm’s structured intuition, offering a distinct and luminous experience that doesn’t just sound different, but feels like its own evolving world.

When Soft Cell played a spectacular, sold-out show before 20,000 fans at The O2 in September 2018, the London concert was seen by all and sundry as a grand finale. It had been billed as One Night: One Final Time, leaving devotees in no doubt that a duo who had done so much to define the sound of British electronic pop in the 1980s were saying hello to wave one last, emotional goodbye. At least that had been the idea. Singer Marc Almond and instrumentalist Dave Ball had originally gone their separate ways in 1984 before reuniting for two years in the early 2000s to make a new album, Cruelty Without Beauty. The intention at The O2 had been to draw a line under a rollercoaster ride that had seen Soft Cell secure three Top Ten albums and six Top Ten singles, including 1981’s all-conquering Tainted Love, while setting a template for synth acts from the Pet Shop Boys to Years & Years.

But such was the reaction – and the sense of purpose the pair rediscovered onstage – that the big adieu ultimately turned out to be a brilliant new dawn. The reality is that Marc and Dave bring the best out of one another as performers, both onstage and in the studio, and the sense that there was still plenty of mileage left in their partnership was inescapable. The latest fruits of a bond that was first forged in the art department of Leeds Polytechnic in 1977 were in the shape of a new studio album, *Happiness Not Included, and a series of live dates in the UK and the US that saw the band treat fans to a mixture of new material, classic hits and their 1981 debut album Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, which was played in its entirety for the first time to mark its 40th anniversary.

                                                                                                                        Limited release of 1000 copies.

As with his debut, Home, it's a collection of witty, melancholic pop songs, delivered in his own inimitable style. It also includes a cover of Ted Rundgren's "I Saw The Light" (IMO better than the original!) And being a Dinked Edition it's beautifully packaged with a bonus disc of added extras too.

The A-side on this 45, 'Say It Again', features Kelly on vocals and piano. It's a smooth, soulful tune, pulling references from Bobby Caldwell and FM radio. Shawn says of the track: "There has always been a mutual admiration society between myself & Kelly. Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of playing on both the Monophonics & Kelly’s solo records in the studio and live onstage. This is the first I’ve had Kelly on something that I’ve put together. Good things come to those who wait… and here it is!"

The instrumental B-side, 'Harpsichord Rock', comes straight out of some sort of lost 1970’s Italian movie. Entirely written and recorded by Lee, it's a hypnotic jam with a groove. The mood: funk.

Nearly all original copies were destroyed by the pressing plant after being pressed at the wrong speed. A second run of just around 50 copies was quietly made - and then it vanished into obscurity. Until now.

Psychedelia collides with deep grooves in an explosion of creative madness.
One of the rarest records to come out of the Caribbean, finally reissued for the world to hear.

The B-side? An unreleased funk track, salvaged from a reel containing the soundtrack of a never-released film - a forgotten gem brought back to life.

To mark the occasion and do this release justice, Lava On Wax is proud to present this as a 7” with a full picture sleeve, featuring beautiful artwork by Hamraz Bayan.

A trailblazer of Arabic indie electronic pop and a key figure in the underground music scene, Hamdan blurs the lines between traditional sounds, electronic textures and hypnotic melodies.

‘I remember I forget بنسى وبتذكر ’ delves into the turmoil of her native Lebanon through poetic, universal writing, enriched by prestigious collaborations and a constant dialogue between past and present.

Co-produced with Marc Collin (Nouvelle Vague), the album captures the very essence of Yasmine Hamdan: a singular voice at the crossroads of cultures, capable of making the personal and the political dance in the same breath.

From her early days with the duo Soapkills to her solo releases on Crammed Discs, and collaborations with the likes of Mirwais and Jim Jarmusch, Yasmine Hamdan has forged a unique path, acclaimed worldwide. With ‘I remember I forget بنسى وبتذكر ’, she delivers a powerful, timely work, crafted to stir both hearts and minds.

Here, Barry Adamson and Pan Sonic is performed by the Hljomeyki choir and Pan Sonic. "...a blend of an Icelandic choir performing Barry's (treated) microtonal, urgent score is slowly infiltrated, first with an electronic breath and then by well-rounded bass that evolves into a satisfactory crescendo before the scary humhum returns... highly successful" (Vital Weekly). The Hafler Trio's wonderful extended reworking "weaves strong drones together before levelling them to start anew. At times it sounds eerily like the soundtrack to "the monolith" from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, but the intermittent digital crackles and processing bring the listener forcefully up to the present tense. If you are interested in abstract and experimental electronic music, the Hafler Trio deliver a solid remix". Originally released on CD by Icelandic label Kitchen Motors in 2001, now released on vinyl for the first time by Cold Spring. Produced by Barry Adamson, Jóhann Jóhannsson, and Pan Sonic. The cover art features Icelandic electronic composer Magnús Blöndal Jóhannsson having a brain scan performed while listening to this disc.

With 'Hagen', and their previous release, 'Vidrio', (2023), the pair are creating a distinctive signature sound in modern alternative pop music. Nobody else sounds quite like them. Both records have an open hearted nature and simple, winning melodies that play off against a taste for drama, spectacular orchestration and a feeling of otherworldly mystery. Hagen is the more ambitious, sometimes more mystical effort. From the opening handclaps of ‘Lágrima del Sol’, (a wonderfully uptempo playground chant translating as a tear from the sun but, surely, not referencing the brand of pineapple wine?), the record dances its way through various mid-to-late-eighties inspirations, lush and widescreen passages of melancholy and vertiginous contrasts.

Raging out of the stricken mining communities of south Wales in the late 80s, they were bonded by friendships, family ties and a self-styled 'geometry of contempt', whereby James Dean Bradfield and Sean Moore would orchestrate the daring intellectual broadsides written by Richey Edwards and Nicky Wire. Seemingly condemned to mere cult status by a cruel juncture of artistic triumph, commercial failure and personal despair, the story took an agonising twist when the tragedy of Edwards' 1995 disappearance was followed by a remarkable rebirth built upon 'A Design For Life's hymn to the band's working-class roots, and then the award-winning, multi-million-selling album Everything Must Go, a majestic soundtrack to history and loss.

Less than five years later, Manic Street Preachers played to 60,000 at the national stadium of Wales and had their second UK Number 1 single. Subsequent output has confirmed the band as both a wellspring of restless creativity and a barometer of the cultural conversation. Because it was music that saved them, it's through the prism of their music that Keith Cameron tells the definitive story of Manic Street Preachers, drawing on many hours of new interviews to dive deep into 168 songs, from 1988's debut single 'Suicide Alley' to the late day peaks of 2025's album Critical Thinking.

Writing with the band's full co-operation, his book charts the dynamic evolution of a universe in which Karl Marx and Kylie Minogue happily co-exist, that accords Rush and The Clash equal favour, and where Morrissey & Marr meet Torvill & Dean via Nietzsche and New Order in a single four-minute pop song - all in the name of what Nicky Wire himself calls 'the fabulous disaster' of Manic Street Preachers.

                                                                                                                                            Saturdays At Your Place

                                                                                                                                            These Things Happen

On their second full-length album, 'These Things Happen', Saturdays At Your Place take everything that made their early material resonate—twinkly guitars, heart-on-sleeve songwriting, a distinctly Midwestern ache—and stretch it into something even more resonant. It’s a record about growing up without growing cold, and it’s also a testament to where they’re from (Kalamazoo, Michigan) both literally and musically; proof that a band with strong hometown roots can still shake the ground. these things happen isn’t an album that provides many answers. Instead, it’s a cathartic companion to survival with friends at your side, gear in the trailer, and enough hope to keep showing up. For Saturdays At Your Place, that’s enough.

Happy New Year is a warm and celebratory record. Over simple rhythms and minimalist arrangements, Brinks delivers lyrics that oscillate between surreal humour, earnest wisdom, and playful melancholy. Happy New Year features contributions from longtime collaborator Clemence Freschard, plus appearances from Jyoti Sekhawat, Monica Kremidi, Rachel Lipson, Irma Ignatavičiūte, and Elisa Aseva, weaving together voices from across Brinks’ musical community. Their harmonies lend the songs a communal intimacy. Stanley Brinks is renowned for his unique anti-folk style: both playful and suggestive, insightful and entertaining. Brinks was born in Paris, France, in 1973. He studied a bit of biology and worked as a nurse for a while. Half Swedish, half Moroccan, strongly inclined to travel the world, he soon began spending most of his life on the road and developed a strong relationship with New York. By the late 90s he’d become a full time singer-songwriter – André Herman Düne – as part of three piece indie-rock band, Herman Düne. Several albums and Peel sessions later and after a decade of touring Europe, mostly with American songwriters such as Jeffrey Lewis, Calvin Johnson and early Arcade Fire he settled in Berlin. The early carnival music of Trinidad became a passion, and in the early 21st century he became the unquestioned master of European calypso, changing his name to Stanley Brinks. Under this moniker he has recorded considerably more than 100 albums, collaborated with the New York Antifolk scene on several occasions, recorded and toured with traditional Norwegian musicians, and played a lot with The Wave Pictures.

From the basement of her beauty salon on Detroit’s West Side, she ran one of the most important Black-owned gospel imprints of the 20th century. At a time when both the music industry and the country were stacked against her, Mrs. Murphy built a sanctuary for soul — a Black woman-owned business and creative hub in volatile times. Now she’s back with an exquisite, timeless album that reconnects with her roots. At its core 'Hard Headed Woman' is about that furious instinct to never waver—especially when our values and future are so clearly on the line. It's country music as only Price can make it: free of rules, cherishing tradition, hard headed but with a delicate beating heart.

'Hard Headed Woman' sees Price on fine form, beautifully evocative lyrics sung atop grand orchestrated country rock. Proper thigh-slapping business.

Belgian born, real name Han Swolfs originally began playing and composing on cello and piano, and was an inducti of Antwerp Jazz Studio in 1999. Forced to quit in 2002 due to a spell of extended psycosis (!!) he continued to compose music and moved into electronic, specifically electro production - the fruits of which are available here across two volumes.

"Tracks From The Basement 1" contains classic synth patches and drum machines programmed with rigerous vigor and experimentation, recalling the genius of RX-101, AFX, Underground Resistance, Radioactive Man and many other cult adored mainframe molestors. There's plenty of charisma and interesting nuances, characterized by a rough-and-ready, maverick approach.

"Tracks From The Basement 2" sees the producer stretch out into more experimental areas of the electro soundscape. Quicker tempos, reckless synthesis, rampant rhythms; it's all very dramatic and, considering some of these tracks date back quite a bit, really quite spectacular.

The album features the formidable talents of Will Sach on bass and Sam Jesson on drums.

Joe Webb is an extraordinarily gifted pianist and improviser who, taking inspiration from the flavour of 90's Brit- pop and adding references to his Welsh cultural roots, seamlessly blends traditional jazz with contemporary flair. His innovative approach breathes new life into classic jazz idioms, creating a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly original. The Joe Webb Trio's ability to amalgamate the old and the new has garnered them a deserved reputation for pushing the boundaries of jazz while respecting its rich heritage.

After years of collaborating and touring with musicians like Kevin Morby and Perfume Genius, Duffy still draws on the solace of that community, but takes center stage, with their most assured, classic songwriting yet against a backstop of nuanced instrumentation and moving testimony. The record is a celebration of commitment: to being a more honest version of yourself, driven by a romantic love that recognizes the beauty of imperfection. Lead single “Wheel of Change” is perhaps the most joyous and anthemic song Duffy has ever made, with a chorus that remains stuck in your head, but the record as a whole traverses a myriad of emotions where the stakes are higher than they’ve ever been.

With the help of her brother and sole collaborator, FINNEAS, the pair wrote, recorded, and produced the album together in their hometown of Los Angeles. This album comes on the heels of her two massively successful albums 'WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?' and 'Happier Than Ever' and works to further develop the world of Billie Eilish. This special anniversary edition is pressed on bio-vinyl dark blue & orange splatter with the original cover printed on silver mirror foil board.

The Band had already shared a split tape with Chumbawamba on Sky and Trees but this demo is the jewel in the crown of the Passion Killers recorded work. It features 'Start Again' which was released by Crass on 'Bullshit Detector 2'. The LP comes with a 16 page 11”x11” booklet featuring photos, lyrics, handouts, clippings and other stuff.

In hindsight it all seems so simple- the marrying up of the most incredible looking records with the bands’ incendiary psyched out, kosmik washed swamp blues is one heck of a draw.

Astutely described as “combining avant swamp blues heaviosity with kosmic free jazz experimentalism in a fluid collective of godless raag brut improvisations - sonic visions of an hallucinatory apocalyptic near future”. Reference points are incredibly eclectic from Alice Coltrane, Sun Ra, Moondog, Captain Beefheart etc via The MC5 or the blissed out mantras of Popol Vuh to “imagining Spacemen 3 in the high desert being scorched by the hot hot sun”.

The background to this set is probably best coming from Jonny himself: “The origin of this remix project began in the final mixing of the album ‘Acid Blüüs Räägs Vol.2’ with Captain Future at Space Eko East Studios. When the Captain tried out some heavy dub treatments on the opening track ‘Cosmic Fanfare’ the idea for a whole parallel remix project pronounced itself as the righteous path. So, after mixing the album, the Captain set sail for the cosmos with his dub version of track 1. The logical next step was to put the call out to the Invocation family… Jason Stoll, God Unknown label boss and Sex Swing bass swinger gives ‘Fever Dawn’ the dark and heavy treatment. Long time friend and prolific cottage industry remixer The Lincolnshire Poacher takes ‘Wail Of The Dead Woods’ off to his murky hideout to close the first side. On the flip Brother Chris Rotter, the band’s very own sonic traveller of the white and the black keys, pulls out a very cinematic mix of ‘The Sun and The Red Sand’. And the final track ‘Celestial Symphony In D’ is treated to two re-imaginings; first from long term collaborator Charlie Behrens who treats us to some delicious experimental rupturings, under his new moniker Collapsing Drums, followed by former band mate and present collaborator Mr Chestnutt, with a Floating World Pictures cosmic gospel rave mix to close the party. Something for everyone….Dig!!!”
