About this item
'Fragments' is an earnest and lovingly crafted collection of songs and instrumentals by Indie-Folk band, Glass Ankle. Recording, mixing and most of the performing was completed by chief-songwriter, Greg Jackson, predominantly in bedrooms in locations including Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Congleton, Crosby, Macclesfield, and Marple using a modestly spec'ed laptop with Pro Tools and Ableton Live installed. The fragmented approach taken was sadly unavoidable due to the emergence of unanticipated obstacles along the way, including tragic illness within the band, the departure of two members, and the loss of record company backing. Time ticked on and one would have been forgiven for wondering if new Glass Ankle material would surface, yet through dogged determination a spellbinding E.P. has been salvaged which includes songs originally intended to feature, as well as newer tracks inspired by experiences during the process of realisation.
'Fragments' showcases highly inventive and melodic songwriting which is enhanced through innovative production techniques. In keeping with the E.P.'s title, the tracks contained are a scattered mix of styles: from the light and airy Ukulele-infused Folk of 'Poor Boy' to the woozy bleakness of 'Unlike You', and the sinister stuttering strings of 'Fragment' to the indie-shuffle of "One of Them". With this release Glass Ankle have been able to marry diverse musical influences in an impressive fashion to create a captivating mini-album brimming with unexpected twists and turns that truly capture the imagination.
