About this item
Five years on from the release of "Demon Days", Murdoc Niccals and co. are back with a brand new long player. This time the band have taken up residence on a secret floating island deep in the South Pacific; a "Plastic Beach" HQ, made up of the detritus, debris and washed up remnants of humanity. This "Plastic Beach" is the furthest point from any landmass on Earth; the most deserted spot on the planet... Yeah, whatever! If, like me, you've never been convinced by the whole 'cartoon band' side to Gorillaz, but have enjoyed the music despite the vast amount of reverential (and mostly justified) hype, then you'll be pleased to know that Albarn has come up with another cracker here, mixing his talent for a well-written song with production that takes in singer-songwriter introspection set against hip hop, electro-funk, disco, beats and breaks. Obviously the guest list is as varied as it is long, taking in Snoop Dogg, Bashy & Kano, Mos Def and De La Soul, Gruff Rhys from SFA, Yukimi Nagano from Little Dragon, Lou Reed, Mark E. Smith, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Bobby Womack, Mick Jones And Paul Simonon, making for a quality listen.
