About this item

Another one from the fledging collaboration between Dub Store Japan and King Tubby's Dub Plate - a new label bringing unreleased Tubby dubs into the light. Like Cultural Roots' "No Fish Head" (also out this week), "What Your Sound Can Do", voiced by Lilly Melody is dated around 1986 and rides that crossover sound into dancehall territory beautifully. Digital drums, clavs and tight organ licks make up the riddim while Melody's delivery is fiery but restrained with lyrical content signalling the importance of sound system culture in Jamaica. On the dub, King Tubby beefs it up with extra instrumentation - more keys are added plus some kinda digital melodica line, the bass is mixed louder and the organ licks really skank. Seriously, there's more to come from this project and it's already pure fyre! Reggae fans rejoice!

Matt says: Reggae fans take note! Two new sevens direct from the Tubby vaults have landed this week. They are both killer - do not sleep!
