About this item

Newly-remastered from the original Sun Records master tapes and cut direct to lacquers, 'I Walk the Line' is an official Sun Records single re-release, reissued on its original catalogue number. Available on replica Sun single labels and housed in a facsimile Sun Records house-bag.

Recorded on 2 April 1956 and released 1 May 1956, the single went to No.1 in the Country charts and no.19 in the national charts. It later featured on the first ever Sun Records LP, ‘Johnny Cash With His Hot And Blue Guitar’ released in 1957. Coupled with its original b-side "Get Rhythm", which Cash allegedly wrote for Elvis Presley.

"I Walk The Line" has the measured dignity of absolute conviction. Lyrically perfect in every detail, this wonderfully realised metaphor weds the wanderlust world of transcontinental railroads with the moral strictures of the straight and narrow.

Both songs are taken from the ‘Johnny Cash - The Original Sun Albums 1957 – 1964’ (Sun Records CHARLYB916) an 8-CD set packaged with a 48-page hardback book containing every classic Cash album released by Sam Phillips’ legendary Sun Records between 1957 and 1964. 83 songs as they appeared on the original LP's plus a bonus disc of alternate versions, stereo mixes and outtakes. All newly remastered from the original master tapes!
