About this item
Working in a fine and forward thinking establishment like Piccadilly, you come across a lot of obscure and unheard music - and letting you into a little secret, you don't love all of it. But, there are some records which unite every single member of staff and the majority of customers in bright eyed enthusiasm. Soundway's "Kenya Special" compilation was one of these treats, a true milestone in East African compilations and an eye opening, ear pleasing journey into a far flung corner of the world. Now Soundway return with the latest in their African 'Special' compilation series, returning to Kenya to collect 20 extremely rare recordings, undiscovered in previous compilations. This time round, the team of compilers have gone to even greater lengths to share a small part of what is slowly being accepted as an essential element of East Africa’s cultural heritage: the history of recorded popular music. The songs you'll find within this triple LP set bend the rules, break away from existing genres and sometimes experiment with foreign music trends. The approach to musical rediscovery behind "Kenya Special : Volume Two" has its origins in a youthful movement of vinyl collecting as well as, to some extent, club culture. In other words, it's a gift to the DJs, dancers, collectors and frankly, anyone with ears.
