National Album Day returns for 2025, celebrating the theme of ROCK!

Here's a list of albums that we'll be stocking, all available now!

The Band

The Band - National Album Day 2025 Edition

The four-parts Canadian, one-part Arkansan quintet's sophomore effort boasts more soon-to-be-staples than any other Band studio recording, what with the likes of the Joan Baez hit "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", "Across the Great Divide", and "Up on Cripple Creek" standing out among the dozen uniformly memorable tracks.

Lesser-known group originals such as the achingly lovely "Whispering Pines" and the cryptic "Unfaithful Servant", however, play crucial roles in giving this 1969 classic its unique flavour.

Now in limited edition Bone White vinyl.

    Black Mountain

Black Mountain (20th Anniversary Edition) - National Album Day 2025 Edition

Black Mountain, the front-line soldiers for the Black Mountain Army—an arts collective from Vancouver, British Columbia—write, perform, and record music that speaks (and sings) to this realization: that solutions are rarely simple, that the world is as complex as it is ambiguous, and that music sprinkled with an inoculating dose of madness may well be the Pied Piper that takes us all back into the primordial mountain, where our hearts can be made steady and our minds can be set free.

Their debut self-titled record, like a space probe built of erector set parts and transmitting secret and arcane messages to Earth by string, charts territories unknown yet remains grounded by the roots of classic rock and roll. It’s easy to discern these roots: Black Sabbath, Animals-era Pink Floyd, Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin, and Can. Principal songwriter Stephen McBean’s vocals are a smoother, bluesier amalgam of the voices of Neil Young, Mick Jagger, and perhaps James Brown loaded on cough syrup. And when Amber Webber’s voice joins Stephen’s, the combination brings to mind the potency and chemistry of Richard and Linda Thompson singing together on Shoot Out the Lights, or of Meat Loaf and Ellen Foley howling together on Bat Out of Hell.

Musical comparisons aside, the Black Mountain full-length is one part protest song, one part pop-cultural commentary, and one part sick-groove-rock casserole peppered with mesmerizing ballads and intoxicating ditties. “Modern Music” is the lead-off hitter and counts its way to the imposing and riff-rife “Don’t Run Our Hearts Around.” Immediately thereafter, the sludge-rock masterpiece “Druganaut” establishes the fecund heart and tone of the record.

This special 20th anniversary edition of Black Mountain adopts the remastered audio from 2015’s expanded release and is available in limited quantity on clear shadow wave vinyl.

“A rollicking, wildly adventurous reconfiguring of 1960s and 70s nostalgia that's as duty-bound to the present as it is sympathetic to the past.” — Pitchfork, Best New Music [2005]

“Black Mountain’s love for old school rock tropes and its jam band tendencies lend its debut a protective and timeless aura.” — FLOOD Magazine [2015]

The Invisible Invasion - National Album Day 2025 Edition

        Dinosaur Jr

Sweep It Into Space - National Album Day 2025 Edition

As part of National Album Day 2025’s celebration of rock, Jagjaguwar are making Dinosaur Jr.’s twelfth album available on limited edition Opaque Light Purple Blast Vinyl. Here is Sweep It Into Space, the fifth new studio album cut by Dinosaur Jr. during the 13th year of their rebirth. Originally scheduled for issue in mid-2020, this record’s temporal trajectory was thwarted by the coming of the Plague. But it would take more than a mere Plague to tamp down the exquisite fury of this trio when they are fully dialed-in. Sweep It Into Space is a masterpiece of zoned dialing. Recorded, as usual, at Amherst’s Biquiteen, the sessions for Sweep It Into Space began in the late Autumn of 2019, following a West Coast/ South East tour. The only extra musician used this time was Kurt Vile. Indeed, Sweep It Into Space is a very cool album. As is typical, Lou Barlow writes and sings two of the album’s dozen tunes and Murph’s pure-Flinstonian drumming drives the record like a go-cart from Hell. Lou’s songs here are as elegant as always. But there are very few moments where you wouldn’t know you were hearing Dinosaur Jr. in blindfolded needle drop. They have a signature sound as sure as the Stooges or Sonic Youth or Discharge ever did. They continue to expand their personal universe with Sweep It Into Space, without ever losing their central core.

                Hole

Live Through This - National Album Day 2025 Edition

'Live Through This' is the second studio album by Hole. It was released by DGC Records on April 12, 1994, just four days after frontwoman Courtney Love's husband, Kurt Cobain, was found dead in their home. It was Hole's only album to feature bassist Kristen Pfaff before her death in June 1994. Recorded in October 1993, the album marked a divergence from the band's unpolished hardcore aesthetics to more refined melodics and song structure, and features production by Sean Slade and Paul Q. Kolderie, with mixing by Scott Litt and J Mascis. The album's lyrics and packaging reflect Love's preoccupation with beauty, and its songs contain repeated motifs of milk, motherhood, anti-elitism, and violence against women.

Raw Power - National Album Day 2025 Edition

                      Iggy Pop

The Idiot - National Album Day 2025 Edition

Originally released in 1977, this was the first album Iggy Pop made after the dissolution of the Stooges, several jailings and a self-imposed stay in a mental institution. Produced by David Bowie, and including music written almost entirely by him, this is Iggy's most introspective and heavy work. Much more mechanical than the sleazy proto-punk of the Stooges, The Idiot was a huge influence on the post-punk sound of folks like Joy Division and Magazine. An absolute classic.

                                Oceansize

Self Preserved While The Bodies Float Up (15th Anniversary Edition) - National Album Day 2025 Edition

Painstakingly remastered & presented across three black vinyl LPs, this anniversary edition includes around 30 minutes of previously unheard material - six bonus tracks, three of which feature newly recorded vocals by Mike Vennart, offering a rare glimpse into alternate futures that never came to pass. Far from studio offcuts, these are fullyformed works, some of which now sound eerily prophetic.

"A band that never repeated themselves, yet always sounded like nobody else." Prog Magazine

Self- produced & fiercely unfiltered, 'Self Preserved...' was Oceansize at their most direct. From the lurching menace of "Build Us A Rocket Then..." to the ethereal drift of "Pine," the album pushes extremes in both aggression & atmosphere. Alongside core members Mike Vennart, Gambler, Steve Durose, Mark Heron & Steve Hodson, the record features guest vocals from Simon Neil (Biffy Clyro) & the haunting presence of Claire Lemmon (Sidi Bou Said, ex-Cardiacs).

"Oceansize didn't just blur genre lines - they exploded them." Drowned in Sound

Though Oceansize disbanded shortly after its release, their influence has only grown. Praised for their commitment to artistic evolution, the band quietly redefined the postrock & prog lexicon for a generation. 'Self Preserved While the Bodies Float Up' stands not as an epilogue, but as a final, formidable statement.

This 15-year anniversary edition of 'Self Preserved While The Bodies Float Up' is presented as a gatefold package with 3 black vinyl LPs. Includes newly remastered audio & six bonus tracks, three of which with newly recorded vocals by Mike Vennart.

Formed in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts, Pixies are one of the key acts associated with the late 1980’s American alternative rock scene and were also considered a big influence on acts such as Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Radiohead. “These songs complete the picture of where the Pixies began, while hinting broadly at where they would end up – as a band very much unto their own”. Joel McIver, 2025

Every Bad - National Album Day 2025 Edition

As part of National Album Day 2025’s celebration of rock, Secretly Canadian are making the deluxe version of Porridge Radio’s celebrated album available on limited edition Flame Orange Opaque Vinyl, containing 5 bonus tracks. Porridge Radio grew out of Dana Margolin’s bedroom, where she started making music in private. Living in the seaside town of Brighton, she recorded songs and slowly started playing them at open mic nights to rooms of old men who stared at her quietly as she screamed in their faces. Though she eventually grew out of them, for Margolin these open mic nights unlocked a love of performing and songwriting, as well as a new way to express herself. She decided to form a band through which to channel it all and be noisier while she was at it – so Porridge Radio was born. Inspired by interpersonal relationships, her environment - in particular the sea - and her growing friendships with her new bandmates (bassist Maddie Ryall, keyboardist Georgie Stott, and drummer Sam Yardley) Margolin’s distinctive, indie-pop-but make-it-existentialist style soon started to crystallise. Quickly, the band self-released a load of demos and a garden-shed-recorded collection on Memorials of Distinction, while tireless touring cemented their firm reputation as one of UK DIY’s most beloved and compelling live bands. Now, they are taking that development a step further, as they put out their label debut, Every Bad

Their Satanic Majesties Request - National Album Day 2025 Edition

From one of the greatest rock bands in the world an exclusive for National Album Day, a zoetrope release of the album, Their Satanic Majesties Request.

Their Satanic Majesties Request is the sixth studio album by the Rolling Stones, released in December 1967 by Decca Records in the UK and by London Records in the United States. This would be the first Rolling Stones album released in identical versions in both countries with the title a play on the British passport “Her Britannic Majesty requests and requires" text.

The album saw the band experimenting with a psychedelic sound, incorporating unconventional elements such as Mellotron, sound effects, string arrangements, and African rhythms. The band members produced the album themselves as their manager/producer Andrew Loog Oldham had departed. It was a chaotic, drawn out recording process marked by drug use, court cases and band members turning up at the studio at different times. However, from this chaos emerged songs such as ‘She's a Rainbow’ with its beautiful harmonies, piano, and strings; ‘2000 Man,’ whose lyrics speak of a future where an individual’s identity is lost, the riff-driven ‘Citadel’ and the hazy, dream-like ‘In Another Land’.

All tracks were written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, except "In Another Land" by Bill Wyman.

                                                        T.Rex

Bolan's Zip Gun (50th Anniversary Edition) - National Album Day 2025 Edition

To commemorate this year's Rock-themed National Album Day, Demon Records are delighted to announce this 50th anniversary limited edition vinyl reissue of 'Bolan's Zip Gun'. Landing smack-bang in the middle of the '70s the decade, lest we forget, Marc Bolan and T.Rex had helped officially kick off in 1970 with 'Ride A White Swan' the album, with its mix of space- age soul and hypnotic rock 'n' roll repetition originally confused some critics but has since come to be regarded as something of a hidden gem. As usual, Marc knew which way the wind was blowing and 'Bolan's Zip Gun' both pays tribute to the glorious American R&B and funk that so dominated the era and anticipates Britain's punk revolution just around the corner. Not for nothing did Siouxsie Sioux once nominate the frenetic 'Think Zinc' as one of her favourite records.

An album highlight, 'Think Zinc' became a single in Germany only but 'Bolan's Zip Gun' did produce two further classic T. Rex singles in 'Light Of Love' and 'Zip Gun Boogie'. With Dino Dines added to the band's line up on keyboards, and Marc's soul singer girlfriend Gloria Jones now a permanent member on backing vocals and clavinet, the album represented a huge leap forward in the T. Rex sound.

The sleeve artwork was credited to famed graphics wizard John Kosh, who created a distinctive peek- a- boo die- cut design. For the first time as a vinyl reissue, this has been replicated. It also comes in "Bug Glasses Baby Blue" vinyl to reflect the distinctive glasses Bolan wears on the reverse of the sleeve.

The biggest-selling UK debut album of 2011, What Did You Expect From returns as a special pressing on white vinyl. The album spawned no less than six singles and, as noted by the NME at the time: “It’s the sound of youth… It’s indie rock, and The Vaccines do it better than any young British band has done in years.”

                                                            The Verve

A Northern Soul - National Album Day 2025 Edition

Subsumed in myth and hearsay, the backdrop to the making of The Verve’s second album, issued in July 1995, has been thoroughly documented. It is a matter of record that the turbulent chemistry within the band – Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones and Pete Salisbury - during its making forced the first fracturing of their union shortly after its release, but listening now it is also clear that it is one of the finest rock albums of the era.

As such it is a worthy addition to the UK National Album Day 2025 celebration of the genre; a record of towering musicianship on which four lads from Wigan delivered more than an hour of frequently heavy, brooding and confessional grooves, with their trademark psychedelic blooms and affecting melodies in full effect. And it’s worth noting that producer Owen Morris, who was central to the excesses that fuelled the album sessions, made a significant creative contribution. According to guitarist McCabe, he managed to capture the power of the band’s live performances on record better than anyone they have ever worked with.

Though it was largely disregarded by mainstream press and radio outlets when it first appeared, A Northern Soul has deservedly picked up a ‘cult’ following on both sides of the Atlantic, with many of those that missed it first time around becoming converts following the monster success of Urban Hymns.

As lead singer Richard Ashcroft put it at the time: "[The] doors have opened for me personally with my writing. We've been liberated. Touring, you get lost on a rock and roll adventure. You're on the Stardust trip…. But then you come home and it's time to get twenty Regal and a pastie and assess who you are. That's why the new album's got more soul to it. It's modern Northern blues."

The bone-crunching riff of ‘This Is Music’ was unleashed as the lead single in May 1995, followed by the reflective acoustic gem ‘On Your Own’ a month later. The group then went on the road in the UK - including appearances at the Glastonbury and Phoenix Festivals - and the US before returning to the UK to play at Glasgow’s T in the Park.

At its conclusion, Ashcroft announced his departure from the band and the third single, ‘History’, was released after they parted ways. In retrospect it offered a foretaste of Ashcroft’s songwriting direction on Urban Hymns but on its release the idea that another album by The Verve might ever exist appeared fanciful and A Northern Soul was regarded as a worthy full stop to short but incandescent career.

This 30th anniversary pressing, using the acclaimed 2016 remaster, is on ‘red opaque’ vinyl, chosen for its proximity to the colour of the corduroy trousers worn by bassist Jones on the reverse of the sleeve.
