Matt: Wow! So, unless I’m mistaken, Alex Kassian’s reworking of “E2-E4” might just be our biggest selling 12” since I’ve worked here! Especially counting sales on year of release (Todd Terje’s “It’s The Arps” and maybe an LCD Soundsystem number might beat it overall). What an achievement – have you got your copy yet?

As you can see from the list, Manchester’s still kicking it! With the usual rabble of regulars well represented plus a big shout out to Pops’ (AKA Private Joy) solo debut on Rhythm Section. Can’t get away from that Ghost Assembly record either it seems…

Edits are still flying out the shop, with labels like Talking Drums (and their cheeky sub-labels), U-Bend, UHT (James Greenwood’s new endeavour), Beatconductor, Psychemagik, B-Edits, Wreckin Havoc, Almacks and Soup all dropping excellent cuts throughout 2024. Payfone didn’t make the list, but their EP “Wild Butterfly” made waves with the post-disco crowd early in the year. And LA act ASHRR kept us laid back and mellow with a steady stream of 12”s (including some stellar remixes) ahead of their debut full-length.

Outside of this chart recent trends in club music have seen ever increasing tempos and a resurgence of trance, hard techno and even gabba stylings – especially on the festival circuit. It’s not all to our liking but releases on Dolly and Hide The Junk, and releases by Max Watts and DJ Savage have kept chests beating and fists pumping well into the night. It’s still impossible to ignore the world beating, stadium slaying properties of UK bass-techno luminaries Overmono, Joy O, Four Tet and Floating Points; but nice to see Welsh boys Bodhi added to that imperative watch list with this year’s “Laurus Ascending”. There was also a retrospective delve into the Goa trance scene with two compilations “Kicking Dust” and “Gonzo Goa”.

Be With reissued one of my favourite records ever made – Arthur Russell’s “In The Light Of A Miracle”, a true holy grail record that no home should be without. Other worthy mentions? The Ron Hardy / Adonis themed jak beat and warehouse trax of the Dirty Blends label; a street soul / proto-house excavation from System Exclusive; a few slayers on Erol Alkin’s Phantasy Sound and Salar Ansari mixing Detroit techno with Persian disco on the wonderfully named Passed Out On A Persian Rug.

1 - Alex Kassian

A Reference To E2-E4 By Manuel Gottsching (Mad Professor Remix)

Alex Kassian's extended rendition of E2–E4 promises a 12-minute electronic odyssey, tailor-made for diverse dancefloors from its spiritual home Ibiza and beyond. On the flip side, Mad Professor embarks on a club-oriented version excursion, a rare gem in its own right. This reimagining breathes new life into the classic, offering fresh perspectives for music aficionados everywhere. Hot tip for release of the year!

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Probably one of the most the eagerly anticipated twelves of the year. Alex Kassian and Mad Professor deliver new versions of Manuel Gottsching's epic Balearic-house-krautrock crossover monster "E2-E4". Without doubt it's the release of the year!!!

2 - Tranquil Elephantizer

Trisha

An overlooked nugget from San Fran's celebrated WICKED label.

Red Laser's Il Bosco had his mind blown when Felix Dickinson dropped this monster remix when playing the labels club night at the legendary White Hotel in Manchester.

The RL crew were surprised to learn this remix had never been released and immediately contacted ET to secure a full vinyl only release along with the epic original mix.

Since then, this has been an anthem at the Red Laser White Hotel residency and beyond. Don't sleep on this epic slab of anthemic synth jizz.

This one's mega-limited, so heads up!

From the psychedelic soaked streets of Stretford and the mind of Lewis Olsen aka Psychederek comes his next Sprechen E.P. as everyone's favourite cosmic cosmonaut returns with ALT! 4 tracks of spaced-out sound collages where electronic & rock music meet in the middle to create an explosion of avant-garde hypnotic rave soundscapes.

Title track ALT! has a massive doff of the cap to the driving forces of Krautrock, where Lewis' vocal soars atop stacks of guitars & synths and a solid drumbeat keeps you on track.

'Nowhere To Nowhere' breaks out of the gate with a full spin of the private psychedelic reel, a track that seemingly has no beginning, middle or end but which draws you in from the get-go with stacked guitars & synth lines, a thumping one note bass line, snappy percussion, and a totally far out vocal breakdown.

'Hapi' is a stunning stripped-back big bag of blissfullness with soaring synths & arp lines buddy up with a heart tugging 4 note key lines & guitar plucks alongside a reverb drenched vocal sound from heaven.
Coming across like the soundtrack as you reach the pearly gates whilst also harking back to the true balearic sound of the 70's. There are not enough sunsets in the world would do this justice.

What better way to finish things off than with a cover version of what is probably one of THE staples of the acid house 2nd Summer of love era as Psychederek gives the 808 State classic a full psych rework!
A fave from his live performances, the Manchester anthem is ripped right up to deliver a swoosh filled assault on the senses where pads, synths, guitars & even more synths all stacked and set firmly to 'wow man!' and kept tightly on track by the sublime drumming of Donald Johnson from A Certain Ratio.

    STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Already causing a big stir on the local scene with DJs gifted upfront promos. It's all about that cover of "Pacific State" - absolute genius from this wildcard Stretford maverick. Get them orders in quick!

New on Rhythm Section, Manc street soul and Sade indebted R&B from the one and only Pops Roberts AKA Private Joy.

With a namesake derived from the mighty Prince’s catalogue, and its lustful connotations, Private Joy is the producer of soul band Lovescene and a supreme vocalist of the Manchester scene. With collaborations working with the likes of Ruf Dug, Finn, and Lenzman, a solo EP was inevitable and a statement this is.

Pops Roberts’ first solo EP debuts on Rhythm Section INTL bringing together influences from Streetsoul, 80s ‘babymaker’ RnB records and a slice of 00s soulful house in there for good measure. In just over 18 minutes, Private Joy welcomes you into her world of sensuality and soulful warmth. Musical hugs galore, the production balances synths, harps, saxophones, tight beats and meaningful lyrical content; eschewing millennial whoops for Sade indebted dulcet tones.

Each track draws from personal experience; be it heartbreak or reconnection, an emotional diary conveying the trials and tribulations of love, loss and ultimately, desire.

'Desire has been the drive and beginning of so many decisions, highs and lows in life...' - Private Joy

    STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: A fitting home for Pops' debut solo release. Bradley Zero's taste making & era-defining label has always blurred the lines between the electronic and organic; a trait running throughout this rich and heartfelt debut from Private Joy. A beautiful and natural voice which guides each song with effortless direction; imparting a lavish and decadent property to these warming living room and Sunday session hits. Like liquid gold pouring into your ears.

    TRACK LISTING

    A1. Eyes On You (intro)

    B3. Desire!

One of the smash hits of last year, Ghost Assembly's more-garage-than-garage burner 'I Miss Your Love' is back for 1993 with a pair of deadly remixes and another world-building insert to break your heart.

Also known as one of Manchester's finest DJs/curators/all round top humans Abigail Ward, her debut release (!), the original Ghost Assembly 12", dropped a year ago, sold out almost instantly and is yours off discogs right now, for £100+.

But wait - we've got some shark repellent here in the form of a brand new 12 featuring the all-important club mix together with 2 phenomenal remixes that take things in very different directions.

After Abigail wowed all her mates with her hitherto-unheard production GENIUS, her more eager pals were quick to hit her up for some stems so they could have a go at a remix. Abs is better connected than most and has better taste than us all so it's no surprise that we got some top-shelf efforts returned to us.

Keen to elaborate on the world she'd expertly created with the first 12 - and its accompanying insert, masterfully telling the story of a queer club in 80's Manchester; a more brutal time, long before the Pink Pound - we now fast forward 5 years and who better to capture the vibe of the North in 93 than Red Laser's hardcore OG...DJ ABSOLUTELY SHIT who teleports us from the Jive Club to Bowlers with 2 double doves straight up the bum and earns himself the prime A1 position on the record, cut loud and heavy for maximum impact.

Flip over and you get the classic Club mix once more and then there's a B2 for the ages - double legends BRIAN NOT BRIAN and PIERS HARRISON team up with a load of hardware and dub everything right out creating a bonafide Red Seal Roller, channelling On-U to bring a remix that if it actually dropped in 93 might have saved us all from Trip Hop.

Don't forget the insert - sealed with a loving kiss is a letter that will make you cry. It's not addressed to you though, so will you be a nosey parker and crack it open or will you leave it be so you can shark the whole thing on Discogs (trust me no amount of money you get for doing this will match the value of opening the letter).

This is strictly limited again, it's gonna be the hit of the year yet again, just be grateful you didn't have to wait five actual years for it...!!

    STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Second lap for one of the biggest records of 2023. Now with added remixes from DJ Absolutely Shit and Brian Not Brian & Piers Harrison who each impart plenty of character into their individual tangents.

    TRACK LISTING

    1. I Miss Your Love (dj Absolutely Shit Remix)
    2. I Miss Your Love (original Club Mix)
    3. I Miss Your Love (brian Not Brian & Piers Harrison Disco Dub)

Bodhi is Wales' Luke Welsby and Olly Howells who've been around since about 2013 with a modest but impressive range of tracks across labels such as Black Butter, Future Classic, Ten Thousand Yen and Hot Haus.

"Laurus Ascending" is released on Scuba's Hotflush label and sees the duo combine precision synth programming, inventive bass technology and fine tuned breakbeat finesse into a killer club hybrid that should tickle the fancy of anyone into Joy O, Overmono, Four Tet or Daniel Avery.

Across six tracks Bodhi deliver a speaker rattling, futureproof formula that's all of their own creation. With the swagger of garage, the aggression of hardcore and the rib-tickling bass of dubstep - plus the out of body stadium soaring of modern techno - it's intoxicating, arresting, and full on 2024 shit. Highly recommended by us here at Picc HQ.

    STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Mindblowing and speaker-busting amalgamation of bassline, hardcore & UK techno that'll get fans of Overmono, Joy O, Two Shell & Calibre trembling at the knees at edging closer and closer to the subwoofers. Ridiculously strong!

    TRACK LISTING

    A1. All I Want
    A2. Tri-fold
    A3. Reformat

    B1. Laurus Ascending
    B2. LFO2
    B3. Virtua Wing

Irlam's infamous upstarts DJ Absolutely Shit are at it again with four more tracks to rattle yer spines and rupture yer spleens.
Utilizing the classic approach of sourcing a sick sample, adding a rugged breakbeat, then tweaking out the buzz for maximum enjoyment, the pair deliver an explosive EP of global hypercoloured mayhem that burns hotter than an oz of 'Ells Angels sputnik.

'Bridge To Your Heart' grabs Sade by the hand, shoves two purple doves down her throat and queue-jumps to the front of Bowlers for an endorphin-rushing hardcore workout full of modern beat engineering and sample manipulation.

Switching approach, 'Bolivia' shuns the dreamy feminism for an altogether more masculine affair - roping in the Wu for an argy-bargy, elbows-out speaker shaker full of hi-definition laser stabs and destructive, land mine subs.

Hitting the accelerator, 'Rocking You Eternally' traverses the jungle boarders in a blacked out Nova, Ab Shit's flair and panache at drum programming and contemporary production chops beautifully on show throughout this big system roller with a carp-hunting vocal hook.

'Gong' closes off proceedings, merging moods inna more seductive flavour. E-soaked pianos and a gentle throb coaxing us to that end-of-night climax that'll have us humming the piano line all the way down the M65 home.

No jokes cru, this is some of the best tackle to emerge outta the DJ Absolutely Shit studio to date. One of two, vinyl-only EPs and ahead of their debut album that follows on C90 tape.

Boing boing boing, boing boing boing, boing boing!!

    STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: The strongest stuff TO DATE from the DJ Absolutely Shit studio. The catchy hooks, the technical breaks mangle-age, the nods to hardcore - it's all there - but our Irlam renegade seems to have a reached a zenith in terms of mixing and mastering; meaning this (and part two following in a few weeks) are the heaviest, soundsystem ready wax platters to land from the RL camp. Watch ya bassbins!

    TRACK LISTING

    A. Bridge To Your Heart
    A2. Bolivia
    B. Rockin' You Eternally
    B2. Gong

Red Laser gets on a kinky tip, where poppers are currency and salacious activities mandatory as label chief Il Bosco grabs us by the nethers and heads for 'The Darkroom EP'.

Inspired by amyl-soaked tales of Euro basement sex club debauchery, and steadily edging its way to a never-ending climax, the EP is a highly charged exercise in x-rated synth-jizz and erotic Manctalo that'll have you quickly believing you're surrounded by massive pulsating dicks on a cocktail of GHB and Mkat.
Maintaining a persistent throb throughout, the EP has us reaching blindly through clouds of pink saturated club smoke, unsure of what our sweat-soaked hands will grasp on to.

Two remixes alongside three originals. Fabrizio Mammarella has the blood rushing to our head quicker than a whiff of Rush Black Label* on his mix of 'Notio Botherdini'. Adding extra acid for a trippier sexperience and urging willing participants to "close your eyes" as he achieves maximum thrust.

Meanwhile local Stretford poppers enthusiast** Bob Swans also has a fumble in the shadows, remixing 'Dark Room' with late late late on in the session in mind - a time of carnal lucidity and primal urges that'd make even Michael Barrymore's peculiar desires look vanilla. It's a sparse and special redux, fluffing us with that latexy bassline and never-ended sfx trails until we're quite literally cumming in your ears.
Apologies, that probably was a bit graphic.

*Poppers brand highly endorsed by Red Laser contributor Count Van Delicious

**Red Laser only hypothesizes to said producer's poppers usage.

    STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Red Laser see off another fine year in service of the dancefloor with this darkroom lurking beast from label head Il Bosco. If you've been to their White Hotel knees up over the last 12 months you're bound to have heard this one fire out of the photon tubes.

    A. Smell The Dark Room

    B. Notio Botherdini (Fabrizio Mammarella Remix)
    B. Dark Room (Bob Swans Remix)

    9 - Kwengface X Joy Orbison X Overmono

    Freedom / Freedom 2

A full artwork vinyl edition of this much hyped Kwengface track; with the hugely popular Joy O x Overmono version added for good measure. A fierce UK drill cut with razor sharp lyrics and killer delivery. Joy O and Overmono give it a bass n breaks rub-down which takes it directly to the clubs and festivals.

Cut loud on a limited 12" with full artwork.

This one will fly out so get those orders in quick!

      STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: An absolute genius pairing that finally sees a vinyl release. Kwengface's biting drill track "Freedom" is transformed into a festival-friendly stadium-slayer via the deft hand of Joy O and Overmono.

      TRACK LISTING

      A. Kwengface X Joy Orbison X Overmono - Freedom 2
      B. Kwengface - Freedom

      10 - Overmono & The Streets

      Turn The Page

Overmono first performed their version of The Streets’ seminal 'Turn The Page' at the 2022 edition of Lost Village Festival to a rapturous response. Hailed by Rolling Stone UK as a "glitchy techno banger”, it has since grown into a word-of-mouth phenomenon and a pinnacle moment in the duo’s critically acclaimed live show. From their Coachella debut to their viral Boiler Room and more recent sold-out headline show at London’s Roundhouse, the track continues to resonate across continents, solidifying its status as a timeless dancefloor anthem. Now available for pre-order on 12” black vinyl with laser etched lyrics on the b-side.

        STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: A huge feature of Overmono's globally adored live show, and released the same week as The Streets' fabric compilation. This unbelievably top drawer remix of "Turn The Page" retains all the original's spine-tingling poignancy whilst Overmono inject a skippy garage beat and plumes of bass; making it soar high above festival crowds and elevating the conciousnesses of a million ravers as it does so. Unbeatable. Might be one of the best remixes of 2024.

        TRACK LISTING

        1. Turn The Page

        11 - Quiet Village

        Reunion

Quiet Village announces new label, The Quiet Village, and new single, "Reunion". Matt 'Radio Slave' Edwards and Joel Martin's critically acclaimed project's first official single under the Quiet Village name in seventeen years!

Beginning life as a 'heady 6/8-time urban jazz odyssey, "Reunion" is a stunning piece of modern, hi-tech jazz that draws influences from Pat Metheny, Timeline, Innerzone Orchestra, and Clyde Stubbelfield's drumming.

While previous Quiet Village material was hewn from a myriad of samples extracted from Edwards' and Martin's notorious digging, "Reunion" and its follow-ups are drawn from a tight-knit crew of session musicians, including the likes of Jon Hester and Thomas Gandey, adding further depth and feel to the QV sound. Already a firm favourite with Gilles Peterson and Luke Una, the latter of which leaked a clip of the release via his inimitable Instagram presence and called it 'something so fucking beautiful. Tony Allen, Sun Ra meets Carl Craig, Underground Resistance, house, tech, funk, everything rolled into one'.

"Reunion" is the first single on The Quiet Village, Quiet Village's new imprint. Despite continually producing new music and a slew of remixes, most recently for Running Back and Isle of Jura, the long-term friends and collaborators have been unable to release under their Quiet Village moniker since their LP "Silent Movie" in 2008. While a few releases under QV and their sometime DJ aliases of Maxxi (Edwards) and Zeus (Martin) have emerged, "Reunion" is the beginning of a new and re-energised Quiet Village that will see more original material and remixes, DJ and live touring that began in Japan in May and curated compilations of treasures, old and new, in the coming months and years.

          STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Rightly causing a bit of a stir, the infamous Quiet Village return after a long hiatus with a sensuous and luxurious new track that joins the dots between Cinematic Orchestra, Galaxy 2 Galaxy and Floating Points. Creamy, luscious orchestration and depth, unfathomably beautiful and almost naturally effortless.

          TRACK LISTING

          A. Reunion
          B1. Reunion (Radio Edit)
          B2. Reunion (Reprise)

          12 - System Olympia

          Sanctified EP

A tempest of intimacy. It's part of the nature of man to start with romance and build to a reality and this is what System Olympia has done with this new 4 track EP. Love, longing, and the restlessness of the heart and body are the foundation forces of this record.

"Luce Rossa" presents itself as an emblem of a credo, an irreverent manifesto delivered via daring melodies and empowering vocals. System Olympia inhabits a world in which human senses are mightier than religion and "Sanctified" feat Working Men's Club is an ecstatic and highly articulated fusion of passion and redemption - a new truth about reality, whispered to your ear with infinite sweetness.

Poetic desire as a force of beauty and vitality is all over Lenzuola Di Raso. Fantasising in between satin sheets on the hottest day of the year because art and imagination mean freedom from the solitude of the mind.
Mi Dimentico makes beauty out of melancholy, and nostalgia out of the oscillation between resignation and demand. "Sanctified EP" is naked skin over a sunken heart, and a soaring mind.

            STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Wearing her sexuality on her sleeve and causing some of our more conservative staffers to blush, System Olympia's rightly hyped new EP is here to enjoy in all its splendidly erotic beauty.

            TRACK LISTING

            A1. Luce Rossa
A2. Sanctified Feat Working Men's Club
            B1. Lenzuola Di Raso
            B2. Mi Dimentico

            13 - Stimulator Jones

            Stimulator Tracks Vol 1

Stimulator Jones is a new addition to the Star Creature roster, and from the looks of this debut EP; seeks to inject a touch of classic deep house flavours into the mainly boogie-leaning label. "Night Walk" has all the hallmarks of a vintage Mr. Fingers number - walking wooden bass, gentle congas, enveloping strings and moody feels propelled by a mid tempo 4/4 drum pattern. "Precious" ups the swing and shuffle and feels like a lost Frankie Knuckles / Joe Smooth anthem - with a bassline that's gonna tickle the arse of any club goer and a gloriously emotive chorus - this is the one my people!!!

Flip and the NY / Chicago vibe continues with the acid box jam "Strive To Survive" - a bold statement but easily comparable to some of the best bits from Phuture, Marshall Jefferson, Larry Heard et all. Dazzling keys, heavenly strings, well molested 303, infectious jack beats - this baby's got it all. "Moon" concludes this essential 12" riding the NJ / NYC flavours - swung woodblocks and bumpety bass recalling the genius of Kerry Chandler or Todd Terry with a moody Rhodes giving it a suitably deep, beatdown fragrance.

              STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Star Creature does house music - and sticks two fingers up to all the competition! Essential.

              TRACK LISTING

              1. Night Walk
              2. Precious

              1. Strive To Survive
              2. Moon

              14 - Traces

              No One (Can Tell I)

ZamZam 94 is a long-awaited plate from South London duo Traces, fresh from a pair of releases last year on Innamind. Laser-focused on a stripped-down, essentialist strain of UK bass music, Traces’ ZamZam outing showcases two distinct facets of their approach.

“No One (Can Tell I)” is a perfect slice of eyes-down spiritual dubstep for the ages. Waterhouse-flavored rusted metal hi-hats, reverb thick like smoke, expertly-crafted bassweight, subtly ricocheting percussion, perfectly minimal stabs, and a sampled spirit of Jamaica past… Utterly timeless, “No One” is a masterclass in restraint and depth over flash and slickness.

Equally direct and unfussy, “Listen” flips the vibe utterly, running off a winking slice of badman soundtape, shakers and siren, earworming midrange melody, and a mirror-image bassline with more swagger per bar than anyone in a 140 session will be able to resist. Battle-tested on dubplate & ready for early, late, or anywhere in between, “Listen” is a guaranteed sheller

              STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Biggest bass tune of the year surely... and it's only February! BAD MAN!!!

              TRACK LISTING

              A. No One Can Tell
              B. Listen

We interrupt our regular Drum Chums programming to bring you a little V/A tackle via the 'Percussion Pals' project.
These razor sharp cuts come from friends near and far, old and new, each one primed to upgrade your record collection.

Debuts abound on the A-side, first via international man of mystery DJ Poufsouffle and his Balea-rock disco stomper "Totally Manic". Brimming with Flash & The Pan style pub-rock wonk this one boasts a growling vocal, sparkling keys and an uplifting chorus which doesn't quite break the spell of extreme silliness.

On the A2, Bristol's Spice Route rescue a nebulous reggae gem from Library obscurity, swinging the scalpel and working the desk to turn out an unstoppable groover.

Built around an irresistible rhythm section, "Gruler Dub" keeps on getting higher as the space-based vocals and trilling synths turn your brain inside out.

The B1 brings the return of Drum Chum extraordinaire Neil Diablo, who follows the Balearic brilliance of his last label outing with a cosmic caper into pure oddball pop. "Starry Night" slinks along in a chromed out catsuit, purring weirdo vocals over robo-chug and mechanical drums before indulging in a catchy chorus packed with addled innuendo. Not only is this as arch as Gina X doing a forward fold, but it also boasts some serious bass weight in the later stages - you have been warned.

We're delighted to finally feature a little magic from Australian Italo wizard Hysteric, who brings the curtain down in utterly emotional fashion via AOR disco dream "Pinball". A steady beat, infectious bassline and glistening chords play host to a swooning vocal, which reminds us to go with the flow and follow fun at all times.

              100% Drum Fun Guaranteed.

              STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Two veterans and two new upstarts feature on this latest Drum Chums - the only tonic you need for slo-mo cosmic disco abandon. Hard to pick a favourite between the opiated late night astral gazing of Neil Diablo's effort, or the lysergic dub-sludge of the intriguing Spice Route...

              Open Secret 1

Pyramid Stage Specials, wrong-speed 3rd wave Koln tekkers, Priceless Zouk & totally unknown Stockport Psych all bunch up on this debut record from Manchester’s OPEN SECRET crew - 2 of the city’s most esteemed DJs who joined forces to put on the best underground night anyone’s seen in years… here come 4 of their secret weapons, from an undisclosed Miles Platting location to ur ears.

              STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Ruffy and Boggy join forces to cement some of the psychedelic sounds from their now cult adored mushroom speak easy onto wax. The results are spectacularly lysergic renditions and tweaks of tracks you'd have to jump down the wormhole to discover.

              17 - Fontaines D.C. X Massive Attack X Young Fathers

              Ceasefire

Fontaines DC, Massive Attack and Young Fathers release an exclusive, limited edition vinyl record in support of Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) emergency operations in Gaza and the West Bank.

The 12” vinyl only release, features material from Fontaines DC, and Massive Attack/Young Fathers, and a ceasefire sleeve design by 3D of Massive Attack.

The reverse sleeve of the 12” features words written on a hospital whiteboard in Gaza by Doctors Without Borders medic Dr Mahmoud Abu Nujaila – words which went viral on global social media - depicting the desperation of medical professionals and civilians in Gaza. Tragically, Dr Nujaila was killed in a strike a few weeks later.

                "WHOEVER STAYS
                UNTIL THE END
                WILL TELL THE STORY,

                WE DID WHAT WE COULD.
                REMEMBER US"

Despite repeated deadly attacks on its staff, medics, surgeons, and aid conveys, Doctors Without Borders volunteers continue to offer critical support to the civilians of Gaza.

Fontaines DC, Massive Attack and Young Fathers have donated their music in full support of the incredible Doctors Without Borders staff working in Gaza today, as a statement for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the West Bank, and in solidarity with the Palestinian people living under a brutal military occupation.

Fontaines DC, Massive Attack & Young Fathers will donate 100% of the profits from this promotional venture to Médecins Sans Frontières (UK - charity number: 1026588) emergency operations in Gaza and the West Bank. The total donation is expected to be in excess of £150,000.

3D (Massive Attack) said: "The hourly scenes of horror in Gaza, with hospitals and schools bombed to dust and innocent civilians, journalists and doctors killed in unspeakable numbers has been made so much worse by more than ten weeks of abject political failure.
We're in awe of the Doctors Without Borders medics who place their lives on the line to help innocent civilians in Gaza. The ceasefire EP is a tribute to them, and their incredible ongoing work in truly indescribable circumstances. We stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine”

Fontaines DC said: “Fontaines DC join millions across the world in demanding an immediate ceasefire and a permanent end to Israel's brutal occupation of Palestine. Since October, Doctors Without Borders have been on the ground in Gaza, where every human is an IDF target, risking their lives to give vital care to the thousands injured by Israel's indiscriminate attacks on the starving and defenceless. We feel utterly helpless in what we can do at this point however we do hope our small contribution to this record can raise some desperately needed funds for Doctors Without Borders in Gaza. Ceasefire Now. Free Palestine”

Natalie Roberts, MSF Executive Director said: “After more than two months of war, Israel’s unrelenting and indiscriminate strikes on Gaza have caused unprecedented and catastrophic levels of civilian harm. Nowhere is safe. Hospitals that are overflowing with the sick and wounded are coming under fire or being raided by Israeli forces, killing doctors, health workers, colleagues. Our teams continue to do what they can without even the basic guarantees of safety. We desperately want to do more, but for that we need an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.
Huge thanks to Massive Attack, Fontaines DC and Young Fathers for all their support.”

                18 - Another Taste & Maxx Traxx

                Don't Touch It

Numero’s second bundle of cover 45s is all things soulful. This, the first in the series sees Rotterdam-based Another Taste electrify Maxx Traxx’s 1984 Chicago boogie grail “Don’t Touch It,” which makes its debut on the 7” format here.

Later in the series we have Colemine Records’ Say She She delivering a glamorous rendition of Jim Spencer’s yacht-disco hit “Wrap Myself Up In Your Love.”

And even later Columbia Recording artist Leon Bridges effortlessly transforms Pastor T.L. Barrett’s “Like A Ship,” updating the 50 year old gospel soul classic for the 21st century.

All include the OG and cover version on one side each, and all three are housed in a newly imagined Numero custom sleeve, reflecting the many shades of our ongoing Eccentric Soul 45 imprint.

                  STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: Another Taste's cover of "Don't Touch It" caused an almighty rukus on Space Grapes earlier in the year. Mega that Numero have licensed it alongside the original in tidy 7" format. First of three in what's looking like a very promising and collectable series of records.
