If Music Could Talk was a promo album released by The Clash in 1981, featuring interviews with all four members (Paul, Mick, Joe & Topper), conducted by long time band associate, Kosmo Vinyl, interspersed with music from the (as then) recently released Sandinista triple album. Until now, the album has never had a full release. Available across x 2 LPs and pressed on 180g vinyl, the 2021 Record Store limited edition reproduces the original interview audio, as well as the full length tracks from the album (using the 2012 audio). The front cover features a photo of Augusto Cesar Sandino - the Nicaraguan anti-imperialist leader and forebearer to the countryís Sandinista movement who in turn provided the inspiration for the album and a Pennie Smith photo on the reverse. Brand new artwork and liner notes come from Kosmo Vinyl. £1 from the retail price of each copy will be donated to War Child.

Any follower of Andrew Weatherall (a particularly fervent and erudite tribe) will be familiar with The Sons of Slough. Comprising Andrew's brother Ian and Duncan Gray, they have produced music together for twenty years and throughout Andrew has been an avid supporter playing their records at his shows, helping Duncan set up his Tici Taci label and generally being a good friend. Their mutual admiration for Factory Records made it an obvious place to seek inspiration for a tribute record. The influence of Factory on Andrew and Ian's lives is difficult to overstate. They spent a fair chunk of the 80s travelling all over the country to catch the labelís artists perform. New Order were pretty much top of the list and the Factory ethos of creativity over commercialism was to become Andrew's main drive throughout his career.

Ian and Duncan have reworked New Order's In a Lonely Place as a homage to Factory and the inspiration they were to a whole generation. David Holmes, Keith Tenniswood and Sean Johnston (all long time Weatherall collaborators) used the track as a jumping off point bringing Factory, New Order, their own musical perspective and most of all Andrew together in a unique tribute to shared times and fond memories. £3 from every copy sold by Forte will be given to Charity. 2000 copies only being made.

Life Flows In Endless Song / The Body Is A Tide (Double EP) - Love Record Stores 2021 Edition

Love Record Stores Edition available instore from 10am on Saturday September 4th, any remaining copies will be available on online from 9pm on the same day.
                      Limited to one per person.

‘Life Flows In Endless Song / The Body Is A Tide’ EP is released on vinyl for this year’s Love Record Stores on 4th September 2021.
Following the release of ‘The Weight Of The Sun’ LP, Modern Studies shift from light to dark over two new EPs brought together as six track 12-inch ‘Life Flows In Endless Song / The Body Is A Tide’, a record that further cements their reputation for innovative craftsmanship. ‘Life Flows In Endless Song’ showcases the band’s increasingly expansive sound, swelling with orchestrated drama behind the rich vocal pairing of Emily Scott and Rob St John, before their otherworldly dreaminess is pin-pricked at its height by Emily’s beautiful alto on ‘The Failing Light’. ‘The Body Is A Tide’ hails from ominous darker terrains, scratching further into their own psyche; it’s heady and baroque, ornate and super-detailed, an opus that climaxes with ‘High Hymn Summers’ and its slowly-rolling drone, created by processing all the songs from ‘The Weight of the Sun’ played at once. "The EP nods at the idea of our collective bodies weathering rough times, played out with massed strings, prepared guitars, slow bass grooves, hypnotic drums, wobbling saw, xaphoon and mellotron. We shook off our usual song structures in favour of something repetitive, slow and heavy; life flows in endless song."

                      Kelly Lee Owens

Melt! (Coby Sey Remix) (Love Record Stores Edition)

Not content with somehow topping her debut LP with last week's superb "Inner Song", K-Lo keeps us cooking with a limited 'Love Record Stores' white label of disorienting club cut "Melt!" with a completely ketty mix from Coby Sey.

On the A-side, Kelly's OG comes on strong at a rushy 130BPM, twisting our melons with the crystalling cascade of its leadline and sumptuous sub pressure of an interlocking bassline. When taken with the fact that the hard hitting drum programming sounds like it's thumping out of an unlikely "fortress of solitude" rave, this has entirely hallucinatory effects.

Meanwhile on the flipside Whities affiliate and NTS standout Coby Sey puts on the brakes / downs the benzoes to slow the track to a shuffling 104BPM before slicing and dicing that signature synthline into an intoxicated stutter. Essential listening for fans of Madteo me thinks.

Record Store Day exclusive's Aphelion Vol.1 and Aphelion Vol.2 bring together a selection of rare remixes from the Rocket Recordings back catalogue - all but one track are being released on vinyl for the first time. The LP's bring together tracks by Rocket favourites like Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, Josefin Ohrn + The Liberation, Sex Swing, Gnoomes, Bonnacons of Doom and many more. These classic Rocket tracks have been pushed, pulled, stretched, dissected and some, completely re-imagined by an eclectic mix of incredible artists. These include some of the current leaders of electronic exploration like Nyege Nyegeís Nihiloxia, Bristolís Giant Swan and Oliver Ho's Broken English Club.

Remixes from the post-punk royalty of IDLES, to the untouchable, experimental sounds of Tomaga - the albums also includes contributions from two of NTS Radio's most acclaimed DJ's, Optimoís JD Twitch and the godlike Cherrystones, both exploring addictive bass churning sounds. The albums also see Rocket artists remixing their fellow label mates - Mexico's J. Zunz unexpected remix of Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, GNOD's Negra Branca remix of Greece's Kooba Tercu, and one of the stand out tracks, the 9 min+ Gnoomes remix of the Flowers Must Die song Hey, Shut Up. Aphelion Vol.1 also includes a brand new, unreleased remix by Cage And Aviary's Jamie Paton and his krautdub take on J. Zunz track Four Women and Darkness.

The results are a cauldron of repetitive sounds across two LPs ñ taking in everything from psych, techno, krautrock, afro, noise, dub and all the other ingredients you would expect to find on a compilation released on the ever reliable Rocket Recordings. Each LP is ltd to 500 copies, with only 420 going to record shops (the other 80 are going to all artists/band members involved).
