About this item

British-Nigerian multidisciplinary artist and composer, Klein has built a cult following since her 2016 debut, working across music, sculpture, drawing, film and performance in pieces that blur fact and fiction and draw on surveillance, hip hop, noise and identity. In 2018 she took up a residency at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts, which commissioned Care, the play she adapted into her 2021 social care film, directing, shooting and scoring it with a cast of non-actors, grime MCs, musicians and cultural theorist Fred Moten before it premiered at Peckhamplex and screened at MoMA PS1. Moten also wrote the liner notes for 'Harmattan' (2021), her release on classical label Pentatone, and she has since put out 'Touched By An Angel' (2023), 'Marked' (2024) and 'Thirteen Sense' (2025), along with her 2025 art book Rack It!. She has covered The Wire (2021), FACT (2022) and T: The New York Times Style Magazine (2023), with features in Dazed, i-D, Pitchfork, Vogue and Resident Advisor. Her collaborators include Mica Levi, Mark Leckey, Wu Tsang, MIKE, Ecco2k, Dean Blunt, Rome Streetz, Jawnino and Charlotte Church, and she has scored Kahlil Joseph’s BLKNWS, the final episode of HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness and Akinola Davies Jr.’s BBC documentary Rituals. Björk picked her to join her on tour, and Klein has headlined the Barbican Main Hall in London, Sónar in Reykjavík and the Bourse de Commerce in Paris, with exhibitions at Galerie Buchholz, Kunstverein München and Serpentine. Her awards include the PRS Daphne Oram Award, the PRS Composer Award, and the Art Foundation’s Fellowship in Experimental Music.
