About this item

The Be Good Tanyas’ landmark debut 'Blue Horse' returns in a 25th-anniversary vinyl edition via Birthday Cake Records. Recorded in Vancouver in 2000 on next to no budget, the trio of Frazey Ford, Trish Klein, and Samantha Parton turned old-time, folk, and country-blues into something spooky, intimate, and entirely their own — and rode CBC airplay from an independent release to an international audience. 'Blue Horse' made the band a phenomenon in the UK: 83 weeks on the Official UK Country Artists Albums Chart (peaking at #3), a place in Q Magazine’s Top 50 albums of the year, a Glastonbury Acoustic Stage set, and an appearance on Later… with Jools Holland. The Independent hailed “one of the most beguiling debuts,” while 'The Littlest Birds' became a generational signature, later featured on Showtime’s Weeds. The band’s music has since reached era-defining TV including Breaking Bad, The L Word, and Hell on Wheels.

A quarter-century on, this is a living catalogue, not a nostalgia item. Cut from newly prepared 2026 vinyl masters, this single-LP edition returns 'Blue Horse' to print on vinyl for the first time in 15 years.
