About this item

Chicago royalty Rahaan returns to the Hot Biscuit-affiliated Typewriter Record Pool with another clutch of edits from the upper echelons. "Rebounds" rolls in on upbeat percussion and loose bassline, and I'm sure any keen disco aficionado's will quickly realize (especially given the track's title) that this is, indeed, an edit of the Loletta Holloway mega-anthem - "Catch Me On The Rebound". Rahaan as usual fattening up the drums and making the whole thing kick like a donkey on good whizz.

"Tongues Unknown" is, fittingly, escaping any positive identification from us here at HQ. Rotating around a wild hurdy-gurdy melody with upright bass and jazz-informed drums; it's a hustle and bustle spectacular, sure to get the floor worked up into a salivated frenzy before you as the DJ drop something that'll blast 'em into the stratosphere. There's some African vocals as the track progresses; suggesting something Nigerian perhaps? Answers on a postcard please!

"MothaFunka Connection" is an edit of "Mothership Connection", a low slung p-funk jam, with appropriately slack bass and rising horns, taken from the "Casablanca" LP by Parliament. Again, our Chicago editsmith has that bass pluming out the stacks, the guitar licks sounding super slick and generally just making the whole mix sparkle. Expert stuff.

STAFF COMMENTS

Matt says: One of two bad boys from the Chicago mainstay this week. I'm really feeling the "Rebounds" joint here. Distilling the Loletta Holloway track to its key elements and looping them up for maximum enjoyment.
