Two mysterious extended edits of Brazilian jazz-dance brilliance arrive from the unlikely shores around Salford Quays via the cultural hotbed that is Old Mervue. Rumour has it a certain Manchester drummer, DJ and producer, better known as Moodymanc and Balaphonic, might be behind the razor-and-tape treatment.

The source material comes from legendary Brazilian percussionist Airto Moreira, whose funk-laden fusion of deep grooves and sun-drenched vibes has been a staple for discerning DJs for decades.

Here, the classics “Amadour” and “Toque de Cuíca” receive respectful dancefloor extensions that keep the spirit of the originals intact while giving selectors a little extra room to work.

Whether you’re discovering them for the first time or they’ve lived in your crate since the rare-groove and jazz-dance days, these white-label updates are essential DJ tackle. Matt says: Danny Ward heads in two winners this week, with both his Balaphonic and Old Mervue aliases achieving pole position in the ROTW. This one, two high-tech Latin reworkings, has been big in the bag of one Luke Una of late, who I've seen utilize to maximum devastation! Bit of a no brainer and super limited copies so don't fuck around crew!
